  1. Ford Mondeo 1.8 Speedstart12 urning off the engine when your car is stationary is a good way to save fuel and cut emissions. However, despite various attempts by several manufacturers, an acceptable system which does this for you has not been found - until now. Component manufacturer Visteon's new SpeedStart12 replaces the standard alternator and starter motor with a high-performance device which can turn an engine on much faster than a normal unit - literally quicker than the blink of an eye. It also generates electricity 20 per cent more efficiently.
  2. ZF Lenksysteme, a joint venture between German component makers Bosch and ZF Friedrichshafen, has developed a new active steering system in collaboration with German luxury automaker BMW. This new system, which uses Bosch's Electronic Stability Program (ESP), was designed to adapt to changing road situations, thus increasing safety and enhancing driving conditions. The active steering system is available as optional equipment on BMW's new 5-Series models. ZF Lenksysteme specialises in the development and manufacturing of steering technology for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Significance: BMW has exclusive rights for the new steering system, meaning that ZF Lenksysteme's production of this system will depend on BMW's ability to popularise this optional feature.

  8. Have not come to this forum for some time. Wonderful to come back this time and see that there are quite a number for T4s here. Anyway, back to the subject. Has anyone opted for the lowered sports chasis with the self leveling system? If so, what's the ride like and the clearance? I'm still undecided as to whether I should get it fitted. Would to know how it feels like.
  9. Hi ppl, Hope it's alright to post some questions on Home Theatre System instead of Car theatre System? Recently, I'm quite amazed at how a good audio system can make you feel as if you were in it (ie, in a concert or in a movie itself). For some of the supposedly good audio systems, all the audio reproduction are so realistic....and it just makes me want to buy them , but there's too many choices to make and budget/space constraints..... So, I would like to seek some advise from MCF members or people who knows about such Home Theatre System. For a start, it's for my new 5 room flat. The TV area is a bit small, so I'm only looking at satellite systems. And I have already run 2 thick (but not sure if good) audio cables (silver/copper) from the front thru the top false ceiling to the rear. When I went to Courts, Harvey Norman or Best Denki, I think the best satellite speakers they offer is the 3in1 (DVD, receiver, Amp) JBL system (forgot exact model no.) for $1399. I know that buying separate machines for specific purpose may be better (ie 1 yamaha amp, + 1 panasonic DVD player). Unfortunately, this is where my budget constraint comes in. For those separate components, it's very much more expensive. Furthermore, I may also run into "Combination problems" as mentioned in other earlier recent threads. During the DEMO, I've tried many other audio system. (ie pioneer, panasonic, and jbl of course). With the same DVD or CD, it seems that JBL is obviously the better one. Although the price is $300 more, but it seems like a good buy. But the down side to it is that, for this JBL satellite speakers, it comes with their own proprietary cables which I don't really like. Coz 1) The JBL cable is quite long, (maybe 15-20m? for each rear speaker). But what if it's not enough? Then I need to cut, and join with other cables which I don't think is a good idea. 2) I've already run in a thick audio cable into my false ceiling and not using it seems to be a waste. (but I can use it to pull in the JBL cable by taping the JBL cable to my exisiting cable on 1 end and pull through). Infact, only this JBL satellite speakers comes with a proprietary cable. Other brands or other models of JBL seems to be using normal speaker cables. Any comments on this model if it's good or what should be the ideal way for me to do the cabling. Thanks kianbeng

  12. I'm getting a new mazda 323 in a week or 2 and would like to see how I can upgrade my car audio. I definitely need a MP3 player and would like to see how I can make the speaker system better with my limited budget. The mazda comes stock with a Kenwood HU with a 10 disc CD Changer in the trunk. The mazda audio contractor has offered the kenwood 7020 for $400 with a $100 trade in. But I shopped around and liked the 838 which they don't have, but they suggested the 828 instead, which seems too expensive for the budget. What can I do.. how good are the HU if I don't get an amp? I can probably spend another $200-$500 for the speaker/amp system. Question is, do I need an additional amp with the HU I'm getting? I don't need to blast music, just good sound (ok.. relatively). Given that I can only either upgrade speaker OR get an amp, what should I get? Pardon me... I'm an ICE newbie...
  13. If that is even a Focus in the first place....
  14. hi, u noe there will be times where we have to stay in the car for a short while with engine, air-con and our sound system on as well without the car moving at all....u shd know when.. what is the car source at that moment and what is it depleting??? is it my car battery?? or issit something else? will there be any harmful impact is my car in a long run??
  15. Just saw their advert in the Straits Times' Life section today? Anyone tried it b4? Any good?
  16. You picking a fight with the cooling system? :-P How old is the car? I assume you never run tap water, nor without coolant? I've seen "rust"-like stuff from radiators, core covered with scale (tap water or blown gasket) etc. All preventing efficient heat transfer from water to fins. Then, the fins, are they clean, are they stuffed with bugs meeting at 200+kmph? Reverse spray to get them out. Solution is to increase heat transfer from water to fins, and to increase air flow over the fins (remember your thermodynamics?) Adding a 2nd fan or shorting the resistor so that the fan is at high speed, or shorting the fan to always on, addresses the air flow problem esp at low speed (symptoms, not the root cause). Just a thot, your existing fan may be aging and not drawing the correct airflow (what's the spec'd cfm?). check brushes etc. In the old days, used to recore radiators, or even convert form 2 to3 core version, very effective. Now, modern radiators use plastic ends, so very simple, new radiator. This addresses the root cause if indeed the radiator interior is coated. Chk first though. My recommendation, if the other stuff like thermostat, pinched water hoses, blockage etc check out, then change the radiator (worked for me!) before you add the fan (also worked b4 I changed the radiator). (has anyone messed with the cooling system components b4? depending on the system, the water flow may need a _restrictor_, usually found in the thermostat. Leaving thermostat permanently open may not always be a good idea either) gud luck. as always, the ramblings above are for pure entertainment only and is worth what you paid :-)
