  1. Since the IT Show closed, a lot of people are now interested in this technology at the Aztech booth. See this FAQ. http://www.avforums.com/forums/networking-...meplug-faq.html
  2. Love your hot hatches? Then you would probably want to watch the new Renault Clio RS 200 EDC being pushed to the limit by professional driver Denis Lian at the Sepang F1 circuit in Malaysia. He clocked a impressive lap time of 2:48:001 which is five seconds adrift of its bigger brother, the Megane RS250. Even though the lap looks pretty undramatic, its usually the boring laps that provides the best lap times. And of course, Sepang is a wide track so things do look milder than it should. What I did observe though are the gear changes, which look fast enough for a dual-clutch. Wonder why some of the overseas reviewers complain of a slow responding EDC gearbox... Hopefully we will get the car here soon to try it out for ourselves! Meanwhile, enjoy the video... http://dai.ly/x1kx2is_renault-clio-rs-200-edc-track-drive-with-denis-lian-part-1-2-track-version_auto
  3. Like most Singaporeans, I love sedans more than other body styles. Yes. I know most of the younger generation like hatches now, so yup, you can call me old. Oh well. We all know Evos, which is also called the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution in full, are fast and effective as a weapon for the road. No doubt assisted by its complex all-wheel drive drivetrain and turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. Recently, a good friend of mine told me he knew of a nicely done up Evo 9, so with me loving Evos, I paid a visit to Playtune Performance's Evo 9 GSR... Bronze Volk Racing RE-30 rims sitting nicely flushed with the body while Toyo R888s tires make sure the car holds onto its cornering lines well on the track. Project MU rotors and Biltz MR-VS brake pads provide the necessary braking power. Varis carbon lip enhances the car's look while also providing some additonal downforce for the front. Tougher looking Apexi N1 exhaust system makes sure back pressure is reduced. Moving inside, it is clear the owner only means business. Everything additional was there for a reason. A full carbon print interior impressed me! Overall, a nice and neat cabin. Surprisingly, the steering remained stock. I was expecting some Nardi or OMP. GReddy Profec boost controller made sure boost stayed at 1.4bar during this shoot. We hear it can go up to 2.0bar for maximum attack. Yummy. Defi BF gauges provide the necessary info when driving hard. Another look at the Carbon print on the dash. Air fuel ratio another useful number to keep an eye out for. Car gets going very fast once needle passes 4,000rpm. Now the interesting part...Headline figures are 528bhp and 672Nm of torque. All thanks to a 2.3-litre stroker kit plus other parts from Tomei. Walbro 255L fuel pump, SARD fuel regulator plus RC 850cc injectors provide the correct amount of fuel for the engine. Cosworth inlet and exhaust valves plus stage 3 high cam shafts feature also. Of course, the engine block has also been bored and its cylinder head skimmed, ported and polished to squeeze more out from the engine. Garrett GT 3071R here looking impressive! Koyorad intercooler for this Evo9. Battery has been shifted to the back to make sure weight distribution is more equal. Love the attention to detail. Surprised to see a 12-litre STi water tank here in the boot which is used to cool the intercooler. This is probably the only major standard part that has not been changed but of course owner plans to get this rectified with a better coilover system and lower arms for leisure track work. Much thought and effort has been put into improving his car and with the help of Playtune Performance, this Evo has turned into one well-balanced street ride. For more info on Playtune Performance, check out their Facebook page.
  4. Did Honda ever produced turbo charged engine for road cars?? I know they produced the 1500hp monsters for F1 cars , and developed VTEC after turbo was banned.
  5. Make no mistake. This isn't a simple tuned up version of the usual BMW 335i. In fact, it's far from it. This is an M3-rivaling fast saloon that can carry four up north in comfort at great speeds. And Alpina has done a great job with its new B3 Bi-turbo. Headline figures are 404bhp and 600Nm of torque from the 3.0-litre straight-six, which equals to a 100 more horses and 200Nm of more torque than the 335i This is achieved with the help of two smaller turbocharger, a larger intercooler, a better fuel pump and its own ECU. Why two turbochargers? Alpina says throttle response is much better and there is less turbo lag, which was what I felt. Coupled with the responsive ZF eight-speed automatic, the sprint to 100km/h is accomplished in a scant 4.2 seconds. On the road, the B3 is a great overtaking tool with all that torque. There is no question this is much faster than a 335i, especially when it achieves full boost. On that note, the turbo hiss is more noticeable now when driving hard. Alpinas have never been track cars and this is no different. The B3 is one smooth riding saloon considering that it is running on ultra low profile non-run flat tyres. Dampers are adjustable but in Comfort mode, body control is slightly lacking as the car can get upset by larger bumps. Sport mode improves things and with one of the finest steering for a saloon, hustling the car down your favourite road is a joy. Overall this is a well-rounded fast sedan. Some of you readers may argue that this is one expensive 3 Series but you do have to pay for the exclusivity. I cannot think of anything I dislike about the car other than wishing for a louder exhaust note, considering it bears the Akrapovic name. But then again, Alpinas aren't supposed to be shouty... 6. Turbo Honda ? To me , Honda B Series engine is still the best. Honda has announced a trio of VTEC TURBO engines which will be offered in a wide variety of models in the near future. The newly developed lineup of direct-injection gasoline turbocharged engines will work on small- to medium-sized vehicles and will utilize Honda's Earth Dreams Technology. The smallest unit will be a three-cylinder, 1.0-liter power unit followed by a 4-cylinder, 1.5-liter engine. Both of them promise to have reduced friction and a turbocharger featuring a low moment of inertia. The direct injection technology will provide a suitable balance between high output and torque, while at the same time remaining fuel efficient. The 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter Euro 6-compliant engine is the crown jewel with its maximum output of more than 280 HP (206 kW) in the highly anticipated Civic Type R confirmed for a 2015 launch. 7. Honda has showcased the latest Civic Type R development car at its in-house test track in Tochigi, Japan. The Civic Type R will be the first model in Europe to have one of Honda’s all new VTEC TURBO engines from Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology range. This 2.0-litre, direct injection, four-cylinder turbo engine is expected to have class-leading output in excess of 300bhp and will be EURO 6 compliant. It is also believed to produce more than 400Nm of torque through its front wheels. Adaptive dampers will allow the car to have a decent ride when driven on normal roads and be sufficiently stiff when on track. Considering that the car has a target of being the fastest production hatch around the Nurburging, large Brembo brakes will come as standard and 19-inch rims are a must. The currently camouflaged car is being put through its paces as part of an extensive testing process taking place in Europe and Japan, ahead of its much anticipated launch in 2015.
  8. Earlier at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Honda’s Europe President, Manabu Nishimae, provided us with a lovely teaser video of the upcoming Honda Civic Type R. In addition to the video, he announced that it will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged lump (with a 7,000rpm redline) and would produce a minimum of 276bhp. We think that this is a brilliant move to keep in times with the current batch of hot hatches. What would be interesting is how Honda would keep all 276 ponies in check with all of them being channeled to the front wheels… At the same time Honda also claimed to make the new Civic Type R the fastest front-wheel drive production car around the ‘Ring' and has apparently gotten pretty close to the timing currently held by the current record holder - the Megane 265 Cup. Watch the video and see the disguised Type R at the famed track. http://dai.ly/x16jkc6
  9. Five months ago, Honda confirmed that it would be returning to F1 and it would pair up with old partner, McLaren. Now, you may start to recall Senna, Prost and that MP4/4 (above) which near dominated in 1988. Well, let's look at the impressive McLaren/Honda stat attack: between them, they had 80 GP starts, registered 53 pole positions, 44 victories, set 30 fastest laps and scored eight world championships (four drivers’ titles, four constructors’ titles). Nice. http://dai.ly/x12i4qr Quite recently, the Internet was all fired up over Honda’s simply excellent video recreating Senna’s 1989 Suzuka GP at night, using telemetry from the race and lots of lights to make something a bit spine-tingling. Anyway, Honda has just released a clip of its forthcoming Formula One engine, which is still being developed for the 2015 season where Honda will participate under a joint project with McLaren. The video below (audio only - no pun intended) is what the new turbo V6 will sound like. Have a listen, do you like it? http://dai.ly/x167tbo
  10. Just rebuild my engine with forged pistons and new bearings. Do not track but enjoy the occasional sprited driving. NSHW sometimes... Some people telling too heavy weight oil might not be thin enough to lubricate the bearings, coz of the high viscosity...
  11. I am sure most of us reading this love the Lamborghini Gallardo in a way or two. The owner of this particular Gallardo probably thought that loving it means turning it into one of the fastest production tuned car on earth. That means having more than 2,000bhp with the help of two huge turbochargers. Yes, that is no typing error. Unfortunately for him, his Underground Racing tuned Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera's V10 burst into flames instantly after crossing the finish line. Luckily for him, he safely got the car down to a standstill and escaped before anything bad happened. As seen in the video, the car looks pretty much fine other than the need to have a new engine block and some repainting. At least he broke the event’s top speed record by hitting 402km/h. That said, he is still pretty far away from the world record. That title actually belongs to the BADD Ford GT, which powered down the one-mile strip in America and setting a new world record at 453km/h with the help of 1,700bhp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfbXK20tJnU
  12. Dear bros, My turbo pipe was diagnosed to be leaking and it depletes my engine oil. I would like to check if any bros know of any reputable workshop who is able to repair/replace turbo piping at reasonable price? I was quoted nearly $600 for the replacement at Autofrance. Would appreciate if you could share here.
  13. I believe that many are in this same case. Man share car with wife and can only drive auto even at 99% of the car is driven by man. So, man can only choose a car which is auto and had got a YRV Turbo as it is hip hop car and pull away from traffic lights faster then any Japanese 1.6 car. Now, man wish to upgrade to a cheap Jap car. Choices are as per poll. Depreciation: Lancer 1.8T @ S$ 5000 Forester 2.0XT @ S$ 5400 Airtrek 2.0T @ S$ 5800 Colt Plus Turbo @ S$ 6000. Ralliart Colt Turbo @ S$ 6000. Others? At a bugdet less then S$6500. Cannot be more then 10 years old car too due to the insurance he prefer first party. He is a very big size chap weight at about 100kgs so he had outgrown YRV as his first car. He is a outdoor sales so mileage is about 32K per year and FSC comments are require.
  14. Just recently, Volkswagen unveiled the Polo R WRC which is considered the road version of the rally bound Polo that will participate in the World Rally Championships and not much was said about the racing version or how will it look like. But now, Volkswagen has finally revealed the race version of the Polo R WRC which will make its competition debut at the 2013 Monte Carlo Rally in January. Although Volkswagen did not give out any technical specifications or power figures, the car is built to the latest WRC specifications and that means it is fitted with a turbocharged 1.6 litre four cylinder engine. Even with an air restrictor, the engine is said to make around 300bhp. The engine is mated to a six speed sequential gearbox and due to WRC regulations, a mechanical differential is fixed onto the front and rear axle. An exceptional feature of the engine is the anti-lag turbocharger system. When the driver lifts his/her leg off the acceleration pedal, the turbo
  15. Earlier this year, Volkswagen unveiled a Polo concept known as the Polo R WRC Street Concept at the annual GTI meeting in Worthersee, Austria. The production version is now ready and as initially confirmed; the car will go on display at the upcoming 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Volkswagen has released images of the car which is now known as the Polo R WRC and the car will be produced in limited numbers and it is considered to be the road version of the Polo R that will participate in the World Rally championships. The final product was heavily inspired by the concept shown at the GTI meeting. The Polo R WRC looks more aggressive and beefier than the Polo GTI, all thanks to the reshaped bumpers and wider stance. 18 inch rally inspired wheels are fitted on all four corners of the car. At the rear, the car receives a trunk mounted spoilers and dual chrome exhausts tips. The Polo R WRC is available only in white with grey and blue stickers placed on the front hood and at the side of the car. In the interior department, the front seats are fitted with bucket seats and the seats are wrapped in a mix of leather and alcantara. A three spoke steering wheel and aluminium pedals complete the racing look. The Polo R WRC is the most powerful street legal Polo that the company has ever built. The car is fitted with a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine and it is the same unit from the Golf GTI. The engine makes around 220bhp and with a torque of 350Nm. The car completes the century sprint in 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 240km/h. As mentioned above, the Polo R WRC will be built in limited numbers and Volkswagen will built only 2,500 units of it.
  16. Just a few months back, Mercedes Benz announced that they will release an AMG version of the A-Class. Known as the A 45 AMG, the car is said to rival other performance models such as the RS3 and the M135i and the car will get a rather powerful engine. The A45 AMG will be fitted with the M133 engine which is a turbocharged 2.0-litre, four cylinder unit. It makes around 350bhp and 400Nm of torque. The engine is fitted with a single Borg Warner twin scroll turbocharger which redlines at 6,300rpm. That sounds pretty impressive and it would be great if Mercedes Benz offers the same engine in other models. And that is exactly what the German auto giant is going to do. The M133 engine will be used on a new, upcoming model which is called the CLA-Class. The CLA-Class is said to be heavily based on a recent concept known as the Style Coupe Concept (top most image). The CLA-Class will be based on a front wheel drive or an all wheel drive platform and it is sized just below the C-Class. The transmission that will be used on the A 45 AMG is a new seven speed dual clutch gearbox and it is possible that it will be used on the CLA-Class. Obviously, the M133 engine will only be fitted to the highest grade of the CLA-Class. The base model will likely get a turbocharged four cylinder unit that makes around 210bhp. The A 45 AMG is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year and the CLA will be introduced shortly after that. Mercedes Benz intends to offer both models for sale within a few moths after their debut.
  17. When it comes to automatic transmissions, four speed auto transmissions are fast getting replaced with more advanced auto transmissions. More automakers are introducing six, seven and even eight speed automatic transmission into their vehicles nowadays. These introductions are made mainly for fuel efficiency reasons, to get more kilometres out of their fuel consumption usage. But, there are also some automakers such as Nissan, who are moving towards the usage of continuously variable transmissions (CVTs). But that is not the case for Hyundai as the Korean automaker has preferred dual clutch transmissions over continuously variable transmissions. Mike O

  20. Mazda UK used an MX-5 for competition in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and the MX-5 takes on established GT cars from Lotus and Aston Martin. A race at Brands Hatch in the month of June brought the first podium finish (third place) for the team and in August, the team won second place in another race. Following the success of the Mazda MX-5 GT4 race car in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, Mazda UK and Jota Sport will be building customer MX-5 GT4 race cars to order for use in the 2013 season. The Mazda MX-5 GT4 is built by Jota Sport costs around

  22. The Hyundai Veloster (pictured above) has just been released recently and it is one fine looking hatchback. And for those who craves for more power, there is a turbo version (pictured below). There are rumours going around that Hyundai is working on a more powerful version of the Veloster and it would put the car in the hot hatch category with the likes of the Volkswagen GTI and Ford Focus ST. The Hyundai Veloster Turbo shares many parts with the normal Veloster model (for example, same suspension set-up) and some believed that Hyundai has left the Veloster Turbo in this manner to make way for more improvements. The Veloster Turbo currently delivers around 186bhp with roughly 265Nm of torque. Pretty good from a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. If these rumours are to be true, we should expect an upgrade in suspension set-up, preferably with mechanically adjustable dampeners and independent rear suspension instead of the current V-beam rear set-up. A lower ride would make sense if the car is going to get more power. As for the engine, I am not really sure if more power could be extracted out from the current 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. One option is to feature the 2.0-litre engine from the Hyundai Genesis Coupe which is able to deliver around 274bhp and with 373Nm of torque (with premium unleaded fuel). But it is not known if this option would be financially feasible for the company. Maybe it is still possible to extract a bit more power from the current 1.6-litre powerplant. The Veloster Turbo has just reached our shores and I feel that this is the type of car local consumers would like to take a much closer look at; reasonable engine displacement size with a rather powerful engine. And a more powerful version could probably take on the continental hatchbacks that has dominated the hot hatch segment for many years. Photo credit: Net Car Show
  23. Hi all, I helping my frd to seek difference opinon on the above 3 ride. He is getting a pre owned ride. Please feedback on these 3 ride, thanks.
  24. [extract] In March this year, Peugeot showcased a concept version of the 208 GTI at the Geneva Motor Show. The car was heavily inspired by the legendary 205 GTi of the 1980s and early 1990s. After receiving some positive reactions towards it, Peugeot has decided to give the 208 GTi the go-ahead for production. The production version of the car will be shown off at the Paris Motor Show this year in September. Power will come from Peugeot S.A.
