  3. http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...510-277985.html By Karen W Lim SINGAPORE's outgoing Foreign Minister called for a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday 11am to receive questions from the media for the first time since his electoral loss. George Yeo thanked the press for waiting a couple of days for him to rest before meeting him. #sgelection #singapore Regrets? "I wish I had a mandate from the people of Aljunied to be a strong advocate of transformation of the PAP. But I don't," said George Yeo. Self-reflection within the People's Action Party? The PAP should take a hard look at itself.. Soul searching, and why was there this resentment against the govt: George Yeo. #sgelection On Singapore's youths Many young ppl have stepped forward to help me. It is not good that so many of them feel alienated from the Singapore they love: George Yeo Win back Aljunied? George Yeo: "Many asked me to stay on to win back Aljunied in five years. I told them it is better for a younger person to take on the task. ...I'm already 57 years old and would be 62 by then", said George Yeo at a press con now. #sgelection #singapore

  5. LHL mentioned that the gahmen will look after Singaporeans, thank goodness! I'll be scared if he said "take care" instead. Let's move on and hope things will get better after this wake up call.
  6. Just to remind all voters. The polling hour. Polling stations in Singapore will normally be opened from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Polling Day for you to cast your vote. You can go to your assigned polling station at any time during those hours to cast your vote
  7. My brief take on the 377A Penal Code .by Nicole Seah (佘雪玲) on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 1:46am.A number of people have asked me about my stand on Penal Code 377A which criminalises homosexuality, because of the current situation with Vincent SDP. My personal take on this is very clear. But it is not in line with many parties' stances apart from SDP, because it is a touchy topic. Singaporeans should ask themselves this - Regardless of whether you are homophobic or otherwise, do you think it is right to say that these people have committed a crime, being who they are? Do you think that we need a law to cast a darker shadow over the way they live, in ADDITION to the current stigma that is already prevalent throughout society? Many have argued that passing such a law will dilute the nuclear family unit. As I mentioned before, reality is not as simple as rhetoric. Item A will give you Item B in a mathematics formula, but reality is such that there are so many other factors at play. Think about it. So what is eroding the fabric of society? Is 377A even as big a problem as it is made out to be? Single mums not being entitled to benefits that nuclear family units have, which may partially contribute to hindering their child's upward mobility in comparison to kids who grow up with better resources. Low-income families, having to wait for 8 months before getting a rental flat in Dakota Crescent, because there is no space and flats originally set aside for low-income families are being leased out to foreigners at a $1500 profit. Exorbitant housing prices, which are deterring young couples from settling down. Bureaucratic red tape and demand outstripping supply that makes it frustrating for young couples to apply for a flat to settle down. I personally know of a couple who had to go through 7 rounds of rejection before getting a flat. Whether you are a diehard supporter of the current Penal code, or if you buy into the argument that repealing this code will have a direct causal effect to erode the fabric of society, do take some time to think about what you have observed around you as a Singaporean over the past few years. .As referenced from : https://www.facebook.com/notes/nicole-seah-...141136845957395

  14. I guess many ppl here can understand the above phrase..... In regard to ppl who formulate public policies...this is one phrase that feature prominently on their minds. Take for example the recent out burst of those many ppl who were caught for OPC violations. They can cite every other reason(s) for their failure to comply...except to comply. Remember those days when they have to physically display a large coupon, which they have to purchase before they can even use their OPC car? They are now given the the laxity of using their OPC car first without a coupon and is then given more than ample time to buy one....later but within the specified time frame. Yet these ppl can't or won't comply. Take another example of using your vehicle to pass thru the ERP gantry or Restricted zone. Remember those early days when one have to purchase a valid coupon and display it at the front of the vehicle so that he enforcement officer can physically spot whether the vehicles have or do not have a coupon displayed, upon entering those areas? Of course with the cumbersome old system, many cheats have gotten away and some valid coupon users are mistakenly prosecuted for it. I can cite many other examples in life where things have gotten much better here but the humans haven't. I believe that any new system must be an improvement over any older system or method, the only missing ingredient here is when a better system is being used , the ppl using it have to be empowered to be able to use it honestly. The last phrase is where almost all the failures are due to...in regard to policies, rules, moral values, charity work, usage of funds and everthing that make man as what he is. Normal humans are unlike laboratory rats. They know full well at any time, when they are doing something bad and when they are doing good with the exception of those suffering from mental illness. The only sad thing is...many choose to do the bad ones more than the good ones even as a society develops to become a so called 'WORLD CLASS SYSTEM'.

  21. My buddy's dad was diagnosed with a 6.1cm lump in his easophagus, when he suddenly unable to eat or even sip water last week. Then he faced shortness of breath and was admitted to hospital for a week. The shortness of breath was due to the food particle and water diverted into the lung and cos lungs infection cos the lump was blocking up the whole aesophagus and he had to be on feeding tube. After a week in Hospital, the dad feel frustrated cos he dunno what's going on and till he gets fedup and want the feeding tube to be remove and go home. he also refuse to listen to doctor's advice. Because he is still fully conscious and agile, doc says we must respect his decision. Thus my buddy bring him home. His dad can "go" anytime at home cos doc says he is very high risk of getting choke because of the lump. Thus his mum is very scare if thats happened. Both my buddy and his brother left home early morning for work and will be home only at night. His mum also work in the morning few hours and back watch over him. But his mum very concern to be left alone with the dad, because she might be stressfull and unsure what to do if something happen to the dad when only both of them ard. Moreover, when the mum go to work in the morning, the dad will be left alone at home. Getting a day care nurse is very very ex for him...ard $150 daily for 4 hrs. Other than dat, what can my buddy do to find a helper for the mum to looks after the dad? Any suggestions are much appreciated. The dad is 81.

  23. http://www.autohome.com.cn/drive/201008/134897.html read the above review, sorry it's in chinese. this is by far the most commendable effort i've seen from geely (who owns emgrand). by 2012 there will be no more geely brand so it's plausible that this will make it here. if it's reliable, it may be another rising star.
