  1. This interesting article is post by Dr AEHaas from BITOG. Somehow I missed this paper presented at the Powertrain and Fluid Conference of Oct. 2005: Evaluation of SAE 0W20 and 5W20 GF-4 Prototype Formulations in Severe Taxi Fleet Service, Amanda Damen, Petro-Canada, Nigel Broom and Rolfe Hartley, Infineum USA LP, and Michael Riley, Ford Motor Co. My review: The Las Vegas taxi service is considered the most severe for testing high temperature fluids. Four taxis were run with 0W20 and 4 with 5W-20 test oils for 100,000 miles each with a test oil having only 0.05% phosphorus. This is to test the newer GF-5 pending specification. All engines were then broken down and tested for wear. Oil testing was done at 5k and at 10k miles. Each oil was specified to run only 3k miles by Ford under these
  2. I know there's more complaints than compliments regarding Taxi drivers. Care to give me some pointers to be a better one as i'm a taxi driver soon to be. Thanks...
  3. Saw a toyota wish yellow top taxi today. Since when the wish become a taxi? and how many of them on the road.
  4. Many times, I come accross some taxi drivers who would purposely drive so close or on the lane marking that without signal, would just cut into your lane or making you difficult to judge whether he is keeping left or right lane. This is so during traffic jam situation and the taxi was driving on the lane marking and which ever lane is faster, the taxi would just switch into that lane without due care and consideration for the vehicle behind him. One or twice, I would move so close (keeping to my lane) to the taxi and our side mirror almost touch. I would take a look at the taxi driver and he show sulk face and mumbling something. Why can't they keep to the centre of their lane????
  5. Just now around 1am when entering tampines along the road from tampines flyover, I was driving at 70km/h and kena taligated by taxi until I reach the main junction. After turning right, this taxi continued to tailgate me and decided to filter right and sped past me along the road before Shell towards the church. After overtaking me, he just sped past the traffic light when it was red. Luckily didn't kena anyone Too bad didn't take down his car number. What was he trying to prove? Think he is very experienced and his 3 litre car very powerful is it? NB[furious] Wanna complain but will this chao taxi driver kena for beating the red light even when there were no cams?
  6. What a way to go ! Straight into a brick wall at 110 kmph ! How safe is safe when continental cars are concerned ? Guess no cars are designed to crash into a brick wall in excess of 100 kmph ! CBX
  7. Car in workshop today, so rely on taxi to bring family around. We were the only ones at the Suntec taxi stand. The taxi first in line was a regular Toyota Crown and the one behind was the new Hyundai Sonata. As we have never sat in the new Sonata cab before, we went to it instead of the one first in line. The taxi driver in front came down and said in a rather harsh tone that we should take his cab instead and the driver of the sonata agreed with him. Correct me if I'm worng, but shouldn't a paying customer has a choice of which taxi to take no matter who's first in line.
  8. Saw one yellow top airwave yesterday at junction of Serangoon North Avenue 5 and YCK RD. I guess should be the CNG type.. Wonder when will the stream version comes?
  9. Hi, Realise there are taxis on the road nowadays that seem to activate the hazard lights whenever they have to brake suddenly. Do you all share the same observation?
  10. Was travelling on the slip road approaching zebra crossing. As i notice there was a person was about crossing the road, so i slow down my speed to about 30. (i'm about 20m away from the crossing zone.) All of the sudden, taxi behind me high beam twice. After travel out of the crossing zone, the taxi driver overtake me and show me all type of hand signal..... It's really spoil my mood....I tot i was doing the right thing. Is it really my fault?
  11. Wah, my wife saw this when she came home from work. Is this really a taxi???
  12. Hi everyone, Does anyone here know if the Mercedes, Sonata & Magentis taxis run on petrol or diesel? I see them "burning up the roads" during my late night rides back home, machiam true blue muscle cars! But there are many friends I know who believe they are diesel-powered hence not as powerful as their petrol counterparts? If they are indeed diesel-powered, wouldn't the engine be totally different and the cars should not be labeled per their petrol-model? I'm just being curious. Thnks for reading.
  13. After my post of Stream, Wish and Airwave Taxi, now see what we got here: Axio Taxi They want to roll out 500 taxi in 1st year
  14. Sat in a Kia Magentis taxi for the 1st time last week, and I must say that it is remarkably quiet for a 2l turbo charged diesel. Much quietier than the Mercdedes E200 diesel taxi, but the Skoda Superb still wins both hands down in terms of cabin luxury, quietness and overall refinement. I could not feel the OOMPH & pull when the driver accelerated hard, unlike the Superb. The mileage of this 5 mth old taxi was 57,000km. The driver told me that he is still using the stock tyres and just few weeks bk, he hit a kerb, the tyre burst and the taxi company replaced just a front tyre for him (different brand from orig tyre). They wanted him to pay for it but he said the tyre is already fast wearing out. Hence, do be wary of taxis, as these taxi co.s do not change tyres in pairs and the drivers usually use them till they are beyond the legal wear limit, hence minimal grip, and this puts the life of passengers at risk too.
  15. Apologise if I have offended anyone... I don't know where to post... so decided to post in general forum. Please come forward and help if you can. Posting on behalf of a fallen rider's family. My heart goes out to them... I can feel their loss, those who know me know what I mean... They are looking for witnesses to a terrible act of recklessness resulting in 2 kids being fatherless... and a woman widowed. Apparently the taxi made a illegal turn resulting in this rider's death... The rider has 2 young children... please help to see justice served. It won't compensate his family or bring him back... but a strong signal needs to be sent to errant lousy taxi drivers who think they own the road. I'm not anti-taxi drivers... I have 2 uncles and a few friends who drive taxis... and I "lecture" them to be careful too. http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150021 below extracted from SBF posting Hello sir, I am Thierry's brother, and the police is looking for witnesses. Please contact them if you have witnessed the accident, all our family will be very gratefull for this. contact is : Clement Tan, Traffic Police (no 10 ubi Ave 3) phone : 65476216 or 98397704 Bests regards, Hugues Leroy // Rennes // France
  16. Ohmygosh ! The once talk of the town, the yellow cefiro which was modded to look like a taxi.. omg.. is for sale.. and since its modded, why is the mileage only 26000km? woa... 17. You probably would not want to be in this taxi driver's position during the peak hour rush. Along the Keppel Viaduct in Tanjong Pagar on 23 July at 6pm when he caught sight of this taxi which had mounted the road divider curb. The taxi was stuck, and had even knocked a black and yellow barrier pole. "I wasn't there to witness how he got stuck, but I sure heard that grinding sound from the undercarriage of his taxi as he tried to back off the curb." Careless Driver.... untitled.bmp
  18. Damn Sianz... Damn just got knocked into by a taxi... New car less then 4mths... Hmm... Now still in shock... I was thinking what types of claims would you guys file for in terms of injury? I feel whole body aching and a bit tio siong already... Mentally unstable, how to maximize claims? :(
  19. Hi brothers and sisters here, pls be warn of this idiotic taxi driver from Smart taxi company. The is what happen. There is a three lane road from Marine Parade to Amber road.If those who frequent that road knows that there is a round-about at the end of the road. This taxi driver, driving on lane 1,which the far right lane, and i was on second lane, the middle lane. This taxi was behind me all along and just infront of him, roughly less than 1m away in front of him, there is a van,i think is a suzuki 1.3L van, turning at around 50km/h.The climax is here, the taxi driver swerve left without checking blindspot and exited to amber road.I emergency brake and nearly crash into him.He didnt even bother and drive away.Lucky the sliver cab behind me stop in time,if not the one who injured is not the arse taxi driver, and it's my passenger and the sliver cab behind.Any one can tell me how can i go about removing this driver from the road?I intend to lodge a complain to traffic police.
