  5. Ross Brawn has revealed that he is "happier" now than when he was solely in charge of a team bearing his own name. In the wake of Honda's shock exit at the end of 2008, the Briton and a group of team management took over and won last year's title. But for 2010, Brawn GP was bought out to become Mercedes's new works team, with the 55-year-old staying on board as team principal. Brawn's passion and focus has always been on the engineering side, and he told the Financial Times this week: "To perform in the best possible way, I'm happier not being the majority shareholder." He said he only ever owned the team "by default", and while able to run the highly-competitive chassis designed with Honda's huge resources, was financed only by the Japanese marque's parting EUR2 million gift. Brawn explained that F1 teams usually work "to a budget that is guaranteed two to three years ahead. "But here I was in a situation where there was no budget. You had to do as well as you could and make the company as viable as possible while spending the minimum amount of money doing it." Source: GMM

  7. The latest management reshuffle at McLaren has made team boss Martin Whitmarsh an even more powerful figure within the Woking based company. Ron Dennis is still chairman of both the McLaren Group and the newly separate road car division McLaren Automotive. But the British outfit revealed on Tuesday that 51-year-old Whitmarsh, already team principal of the Mercedes-powered F1 squad, has been appointed to two new roles. With immediate effect, he is to be CEO of the McLaren Group and deputy chairman of McLaren Automotive, after Sir Richard Lapthorne resigned his non-executive chairmanship of both companies. Whitmarsh is also a board member of the McLaren Group and McLaren Automotive.

  12. Just couldn't believe it that ManCity is using the 1st team to play in Carling Cup against Fulham .......... All top teams are putting on their reserves to play in Carling Cup and MH is desperate to hold on to at least 1 silverware which chances are, he is eyeing this one as the rest of the teams are using their reserves to play. Even Fulham fill in a complete different starting XI................ The 1st team players for top teams will only comes out during 5th or 6th rounds but ManCity is all out to fight it to the final........ ESPN Soccernet report : Manchester City 2 - 1 Fulham Manchester City captain Kolo Toure banished the club's derby blues by scoring the winner in extra-time at Eastlands to take them into the fourth round of the Carling Cup with a 2-1 win over Fulham. City found it hard going against Fulham after losing in stoppage time against Manchester United on Sunday but Toure found the target in the 111th minute to take Mark Hughes' men into the last 16. Fulham manager Roy Hodgson named a completely different starting XI to the one that lost to Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday and the west Londoners opened the scoring with a wonder goal from Zoltan Gera, only for Gareth Barry to pull City level.

  14. Would like to share an interesting discussion started in another forum (hope this is ok), very timely and important as well as sensitive topic. Any comments? http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2474638 The only Singaporean in team asked to GO! Doing a favor for a friend as he does not have an account here, who would like to seek suggestions from all helpful bros and sis here, and perhaps from the government. Basically, he is Singaporean, connected with an MNC for more than 10yrs now, has excellent record of performance and attitude, and is now told by his new boss to look for another job. If we think of the ongoing economic and business situation, I thought there is no issue on this, until my friend shared more details. It turns out that my friend is the only local Singaporean in their department, and the rest are expats (you probably can guess the discrepancy of the salary and benefits of a local vs an expat). The boss is also an expat, and has maintained that headcount reduction is driven by slowing business and to save costs, and has nothing to do with performance or behaviour. I also understand that expats are ONLY justified when there are no local talents available, but this is clear contradiction to take out local talent while retaining the more expensive foreign talent. It's easy to side with my friend as he is my good friend, but what about you dear bros and sis. I believe that SG government will not tolerate such approach without due reason, especially that many people look up to SG government for it's ability to maintain harmony among various race and religion. Would appreciate your helpful comments. The questions that need your opinions/suggestions are: 1. Is the MNC allowed to implement such kind of approach without violating SG labor laws? 2. What/where is the best venue for my friend to raise this issue in a formal manner? 3. Other comments and suggestions that may help. Pls reply with your thoughts on this, or PM is also ok.

  24. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story...0808-81415.html Form a team and race through KPE Motorists can race through the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel- South-east Asia's longest underground road tunnel - before it fully opens on 20 September. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is giving 400 people, or 100 cars, a chance to tackle challenges along the unopened 9km span north of Sims Avenue in a car rally to be held on 6 September. This is to get motorists familiar with the KPE and the roads in its vicinity. On 14 September, there will also be a 10km run and a 5km walk-and-run. The LTA aims to break the Guinness World Records by creating the largest lantern parade in the tunnel that day. This article was first published in the Straits Times on August 8th 2008.
