  2. CNA Report : Football: Brazilian Olympic football team to play friendly against Singapore SINGAPORE: Brazil's star-studded football team will be in Singapore for a friendly match against Singapore's national team. The Lions will face some of the world's best players such as Ronaldinho and Robinho in the match on July 28. Singapore is the first of two acclimatisation stops before the Brazil team heads to Beijing for the Olympics. The match will take place at the National Stadium. Tickets range from $60 to $120. The team will fly to Vietnam for the second game on July 29. Singapore's efficiency and safety plus the country being in the same time zone as Beijing helped woo one of the world's most popular teams to its shores. Winston Lee, general secretary of Football Association of Singapore, said: "We started negotiations with the agent in May and we had to contend with a few big countries in Asia and Europe. We are happy, of course, today to announce we have secured Brazil to play in Singapore on July 28." Weird..... Would you pay SG$60/- ~ SG$120/- to see Brazil soccer team heading for Beijing Olympic warming up by playing a friendly soccer against SG national team..... Maybe, $10 ~ $15 should be enough ...... , afterall it is not a competition game and each players could only play for about 20 minutes and as in friendlies, they could change as many players as possible. Not for me....
  3. Taken from espn soccernet website Man City may be the most improved team in the BPL for the coming season, provided they employ a good fengshui master! Man City embrace Feng Shui Manchester City are hoping the Far Eastern tradition of feng shui can aid their quest for honours this season. Executive chairman Garry Cook has had crystals placed under the pitch at Eastlands and symbols placed in strategic spots around the stadium following an idea triggered by a chat with two of City's Thai executives. While the plan had nothing to do with owner Thaksin Shinawatra, he will hope it has a similar effect on City as it did for Tottenham, who carried out the same plan at White Hart Lane two years ago and promptly won the Carling Cup last season. Although Cook's initiative has attracted scorn from critics already cynical of City's Thai connection, a club insider actually believes the move makes perfect sense. According to tradition, feng shui releases positive energy in its environments and Cook, who was always receptive to ideas such as these during his time as a Nike executive in the USA, opted to embrace the practice wholeheartedly. 'It is like a Catholic putting a Crucifix on a wall,' said a City source. 'It is common practice for Christian pastors to bless the club and Garry felt this was something worth trying.'

  12. Was at Sepang last weekened for JGTC and to watch Formula Renault V6, and Formula BMW... I must say this newly formed racing team, a joint venture between Singapore and Malaysia, is doing REALLY well, unlike the political failure of the A1 Singapore team... Drivers include former A1GP Hafiz Koh who is a Singaporean and another Indian National, who is high on the rankings list and came in first, TWICE, at Sepang. Lets egg them on! Hopefully this continues to grow..hehe http://www.xxxxxxx.com/news/news.php?view=1&newsid=561 http://www.xxxxxxx.com/news/news.php?view=1&newsid=560
  13. Saw the exciting race at Merc Centre. Right from the beginning, Merc got it right and grabbed 1st and second position. Lewis manoeuvred strategically at 2nd position to widen the gap, hence giving Alonso a clear lead that stretched to 20 sec or so eventually! Henceforth it was domination by the Silver Arrows! In fact, quite early on the race, Ferrari 3rd place Massa tried too hard and overran the track. From then on, it was really between Kimi and Lewis. At the final lap, they were just 1 sec apart, with Alonso clearly and comfortably in the lead. Yes, Alonso won in his cool headed way, but if there is a "driver of the race" (like soccer), I'll vote for Lewis for strategic manoeuvring and performance under constant pressure from Kimi for the good part of the race! Jenson Button of Bar Honda moved up a bit too, from 16 to 12. Oh, and here're the goodies from Merc Centre. I won the limited edition McLaren Merc F1 calender (rest is door gift) :)

He will compete in all P-WRC rallies and other selected WRC events. In the production class, Andreas is offered the chance to assert himself against established drivers. Plenty of test, setup and training sessions will be part of the Red Bull Junior's further development. Andreas Aigner also has the opportunity to get to know a couple of new stages. This constitutes another important step in his further development within the sport. Andreas was able to prove his talent in this year's World Rally Championship, the highlight being a sixth place overall in Germany. Now he targets another, very bold goal, winning the P-WRC title, a very hard-to-get, but always underrated merit. Many prominent names have tried and had to learn the hard way before being successful. Andreas Aigner has a clear conception:
  16. Petter Solberg re-ups with Subaru WRC team until 2009 Posted Jun 23rd 2006 5:54PM by Alex Nunez Subaru has locked up their star World Rally Championship driver, Petter Solberg, until 2009. The 31-year old Norwegian, who is having a difficult season this year by his own admission, cited his firm belief in Subaru and its racing program as why he extended his contract with them. There had been speculation that Solberg would bolt from Subaru at the end of this year's WRC campaign. Solberg and his co-driver, Phil Mills, won the 2003 World Rally Championship, and since joining the team in 2000, they have amassed 13 wins and 30 podium finishes. Currently, Solberg is 5th in the driver standings for the 2006 WRC with 20 points. The recent Acropolis Rally in Greece marked his 100th start for Subaru. Explaining why he chose ro remain with Subaru, Solberg said the following: "At Subaru I have a very good team of people behind me, that's everybody including the mechanics, engineers, management and those at Subaru in Japan. Okay, I had some problems in my career when I started at Subaru but the team supported me very much and since then we have always stood together, through good and bad things. But the most important thing about this career is winning. Now I know it's difficult at Subaru just now, and there was talk that I might change teams, but I know that Subaru has all the abilities and all the qualities and the best people to handle this situation. I am very, very confident that we will start winning again soon. I would not have signed if I felt the team wasn't ready to win very soon." Those are the words of a motivated driver who is as fiercely loyal as he is competitive. Above all, he seems to be a class act. Subaru is fortunate to have kept him on board. 19. A Singapore motor racing team, whose crew allegedly attacked a Malaysian team and their boss, had to be escorted out of the Sepang F1 Circuit by police after their paddock was surrounded by angry rival supporters. . The incident took place at about 1am on Sunday as the teams were packing up, two hours after the completion of the gruelling 12-hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance race for high-performance cars. . The Singapore team, Falken ST Power, took third place behind Team Rueben Wong in Class A of the endurance race. . According to eyewitnesses at the Sepang paddock, about eight to 10 members of ST Power raided Team Rueben's hospitality room and assaulted team owner Mr James Wong and four of his crew, after locking them in. The Malaysians were assaulted for about 20 minutes in front of their horrified wives and girlfriends. Witnesses said the Singaporeans hit Mr Wong on the head with a coffee table. . The Team Rueben boss, who is in his 50s, bled profusely from an 8cm gash and had to be attended to by a circuit doctor after his attackers, who were in their 20s, fled the scene. He was later sent to a hospital for further treatment. . ST Power, one of six Singapore teams that took part in the weekend event, faces the possibility of being banned from taking part in future races in Malaysia, an official said. Sources said a Singaporean man is expected to be charged in a Malaysian court. . Mr Wong's wife, Ms Rina Cheong, who helps in managing the team, was stunned. . "How could they assault an old man? They are not sportsmen, they are hooligans," she told Today. . According to Ms Cheong, the attack came after Mr Wong had picked up a brake pad, not realising it was hot, and thrown it away in pain. It landed close to ST Power's garage, which was two doors away. . "They accused us of trying to cause trouble, even though we told them it was an accident," said Ms Cheong. "But they were not satisfied and raided our hospitality room a while later. And to think we had a driver and quite a number of Singaporeans on our own team. . "They ended up apologising profusely on behalf of their countrymen." . Sources at the Sepang race track told Today that some of the crew of Team Rueben were formerly members of ST Power and had left the Singapore team after a falling-out. They were racing against each other for the first time in the event. . When the police arrived, an angry crowd of about 100 people had gathered outside the ST Power paddock, where about 10 members of the Singapore team had locked themselves in. The frightened team members were frantically stripping race stickers off their vehicles to avoid identification before they were escorted out of the circuit by police. . Inspector Effendi of Sepang Police Headquarters told Today that an investigation was under way and that no arrests have been made. . Singapore Motorsports Association president Mr Matthew Lee, who was at Sepang for the race, said that ST Power faces being banned from future races in Malaysia. . "We are in Malaysia to compete as sportsmen and sportswomen and we should wear the Singapore badge with honour," said Mr Lee. "I have apologised to the AAM official and Sepang Circuit officials on behalf of Singapore and would like to assure Malaysians that this is not the way Singaporeans behave. We will conduct our own investigation and will decide what actions to take." Ian De Cotta In Sepang [email protected]
