  7. Yep, your read it correct I was returning from Malaysia on 17 Mar-14 around 6pm, nearing 7pm. So while in queue over at the Singapore customs side, I saw a convoy of ~ 7/8 Lamborghini's go past on the left most lane, which spirals down toward the lorries/bus/vans clearance block. Is there something about that make of cars that require them to clear customs via such a different block?
  8. Campaign banners in Braddell Road (above) are put up to discourage actions such as this - a motorist using his phone while driving in Unity Street yesterday. More than 400 banners promoting responsible use of mobile phones while driving have been put up along more than 10 roads across Singapore. The number of motorists booked for using their mobile phones while driving has risen sharply. In just nine months this year, the Traffic Police issued 2,755 summonses for the offence, compared to 1,893 summons over the same period last year. There was a 61.5 per cent spike in summonses issued from July to September, from the 1,705 issued up to June."Using a mobile phone while driving affects a driver's ability to control his vehicle and to react to potential hazards on the roads. It makes the driver more vulnerable to accidents, posing a danger to himself and even other road users," a Traffic Police spokesman told the local paper. Under the Road Traffic Act, first time phone-and-drive offenders can be fined up to $1,000, or jailed for up to six months, or both, while repeat offenders will be charged with up to double the penalty. Additionally all offenders will receive 12 demerit points while their mobile phones will be seized by the Traffic Police for investigations. However, it is not an offence to use the mobile phone when the vehicle is stationary. To tackle the problem, Samsung has launched a road safety campaign from mid-October - supported by the Traffic Police. More than 400 banners have been put up along more than 10 roads in Singapore to promote responsible use of mobile phones while driving. Samsung's 'The road comes first' campaign aims to drive home key messages, like - 'Drive. Don't text' and 'Drive. Don't call'. Additionally, Samsung has launched a Facebook application, where it requests motorists to pledge not to use their mobile phones while driving. The firm is also planning to introduce an application called 'Eyes on the Road' to aid motorists turn off their mobile phones when they are behind the wheel. "This 'always-on' mentality can mean that people use their smartphones at inappropriate times, such as when driving. As the mobile industry leader, Samsung is taking the responsibility to encourage drivers to put aside their phones while driving, and focus on the roads," said Ms Irene Samsung Asia's Vice President of marketing. 9. Hi All, I got a problem, the owner of the van I am driving now had passed away which was my late father. I have checked with LTA, I can still drive as long policy still under the estate of (vehicle' owner) while preparing the documents for transfer. How do I get the letter or any identification of being an estate of the deceased owner for my next insurance renewal? From LTA or a lawyer firm and how much will it cost me? The van left 2 years with no loan and the COE cost my dad $86 for a 10 years renewal in 2017. So even I scrape it, I will get not more than $20 or so. Please advise thanks.
  10. IT security company Vantage Point highlights three wireless routers, including the Zhone GPON router used by ISP ViewQwest, that have "critical vulnerabilities" allowing hackers to become a network administrator with "relatively low effort". The vulnerability was also flagged by SingCERT. SINGAPORE: "Critical vulnerabilities" were found to exist in three brands of wireless routers sold in the country, according to security company Vantage Point and confirmed by Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team (SingCERT). At least one Internet Service Provider (ISP) has acknowledged the issue and is working to fix the vulnerability. In a blogpost on Tuesday (Feb 24), Vantage Point's Senior Security Consultant Lyon Yang highlighted "critical vulnerabilities" in three brands of routers - Zhone, Aztech and Asus. These vulnerabilities "allow an attacker to become at least a network administrator, and in most cases also gain a remote root shell, with relatively low effort", he said. It added that there were several "proof-of-concept exploits" developed based on the vulnerabilities. In other words, the researcher created possible exploits, but there are no known attacks by hackers on affected customers so far. "There are many routers with many different kinds of firmware on the market. The problem is that when the firmware is developed in-house by the vendor, security is often an afterthought," Mr Yang told Channel NewsAsia via email. "Based on our research, up to 32,000 subscribers in Singapore may be affected by the vulnerabilities discovered so far," he added. An advisory was posted on the SingCERT's website on Wednesday evening, confirming the vulnerability. "It is reported that a few routers that may have been provided by Singapore ISPs are found to contain vulnerabilities or insecure configuration," it stated. WORKING TO OBTAIN FIX: VIEWQWEST Vantage Point also highlighted that "thousands of ViewQwest users to be particularly vulnerable". Mr Yang wrote that they use the Zhone GPON router with a "statically assigned Internet Protocol (IP) address with all default services exposed on the Internet". Based on the vulnerability, it is possible to compromise these routers "at will" and hackers may obtain the subscriber's name and residential address. They may also install malware or manipulate the user's network traffic, according to the blogpost. In response to Channel NewsAsia's questions, ViewQwest Chief Operating Officer Chris Williams acknowledged that there is a known security vulnerability with some models of Zhone routers. He added that besides the proof-of-concept testing done by "two concerned customers", none of its other customers have reported issues with the vulnerability. The COO added only "a minority" of its customers "use an affected router in a way which is susceptible to the vulnerability identified". "We have been working with the vendor to obtain a fix to the vulnerability in their affected routers. In the interim, we have been progressively remediating the problem via another method throughout our customer base. This work is still underway and is expected to be completed by the weekend.," Mr Williams said. Telco Singtel is another company that offers the Aztech router highlighted in Vantage Point's report, according to its website. Channel NewsAsia has gotten in touch with the other two manufacturers for comments on the vulnerabilities. Asked how consumers should protect themselves against the highlighted vulnerability, Mr Yang said: "The main issue is that too many default services are exposed over the wide area network (WAN) interface. Users should change the default passwords on the routers and disable WAN access." He added the exact details of the vulnerability will not be released unless the issues have been fixed, to prevent possible attacks from hackers. - CNA/kk

  13. I just installed mine last week. The remote start doesn't work to my expectations. The problem: the cranking is too long and continues for about half a second after the engine is started. Not good for starter motor. My question: Is it an installation issue, or is this an inherent problem of SPY alarms? Something to note: I brought this up to the installer, and he said SPY alarms are like that. Somehow I don't quite believe him. A 5 pole relay was included in the package but the installer did not utilise it, instead he told me a 4 pole relay was used, citing incompatibility with my car (Avante). Anyone using the SPY alarm here as well? Please help to feedback. Thanks

  17. It may be a case of "you can run, but you can't hide" increasingly for motorists here, as the growing use of in-vehicle cameras helps the police track down errant drivers. The Traffic Police said it has received more videos of traffic violations recorded with these cameras, original videos of which can be submitted as evidence. It started tracking the number of such videos last year after noticing a higher frequency in submissions. By the end of last year, it had received about 1,000 of these clips. Observers say the trend can help make drivers more careful. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/more-using-car-cams-help-track-traffic-offenders-20140303
