  2. Social media is a double-edged sword. Despite the benefits and connectivity it brings, social media can cause harm to you as well. Watch this video to find out how: IMG_7241.MP4 What Happened? All it took was for a Volkswagen driver to upload this 8-second video to screw himself over. The Volkswagen driver was filmed by his passenger speeding down an unnamed expressway in Singapore at above 200km/h before hitting a top speed of 219km/h. "This is my type of therapeutic" and "will prefer to be passenger tho" were used as in-text captions of the video. Considering the maximum speed limit is 90km/h on an expressway, the Volkswagen driver would have exceeded the speed limit by 129km/h. Even though it seemed like he wasn't caught for excessive speeding initially, the 8-second video posted on the driver's social media account will probably get him into trouble with the traffic police. For exceeding the speed limit of above 60km/h, the offender will be awarded 24 demerit points. If he is a new or probationary driver (highly unlikely that he is), his driving licence will be revoked. However, if he is a non-probationary driver with no prior suspension records, his driving licence will be liable for suspension for up to 12 weeks. Or suppose he is a non-probationary driver that was previously suspended before. In that case, his driving licence will be liable for suspension for up to 36 months, depending on how many times he was previously suspended. Was he driving a Volkswagen? Yes, the car in the video is certainly a Volkswagen. The main giveaway was the layout and appearance of the car's dashboard. And yes, that includes the iconic Volkswagen's check engine light, which ascertains that the said car is a Volkswagen. A sharp-eyed netizen went a step further to identify the model of the Volkswagen - the Scirocco R, by simply looking at the car's rear-view mirror. NGL, that's pretty impressive. Netizens' Comments Impressive CSI skills! Absolutely agree. 3. After 2 long years, we can finally drive into Johor Bahru to do the things we love - pumping cheap petrol, eating delicious food and going for massages. However, not all of us deserve this privilege. Especially for reckless hooligans such as this driver: What Happened? The following incident occurred at a roundabout in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. A Singaporean Volkswagen Golf GTI was travelling at a fast speed and recklessly cutting lanes as he entered a roundabout. Just as he chiong-ed into the roundabout, he was caught unaware of an oncoming Malaysian MPV (?) to his left and collided with it. The MPV involved in the accident immediately pulls over to the side of the road. However, after the Volkswagen driver realised what had happened, he floors his accelerator and scoots away from the accident scene, committing a hit and run. What are your thoughts on such irresponsible drivers? Netizens Comments 😳😳😳 A short and sweet way to describe the GTI driver! I realised this too. Why ah?! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  4. Was this incident filmed in a bad context? Or was the Volkswagen driver attempting to evade parking fees? Watch the following video here: What Happened? When approaching the carpark gantry to exit, the Volkswagen Golf driver stopped right before the gantry arm and alighted from his car. He then proceeds to push the gantry arm such that it automatically lifts. Allowing him to get into his car and escape paying a sum of $5? It's a little blur but it's definitely less than $10. . Update #1 - 14/4/2022 Many netizens have pointed out that this might be a case of the gantry operator instructing the VW driver to lift it up due to a spoiled gantry. Well, that may be possible. What do you think? Netizens' Comments Maybe? Or there might be lots of honking around the area which prompted the contributor to film the video. 🤷‍♂️ Well, that's if there is enforcement actions taking against him. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 5. It is not every day you get to see the legendary Mercedes G63 in Singapore. And it is even rarer to see one involved in an accident. Watch it here: What Happened? A Mercedes G63 and a Volkswagen Transporter 'chiong-ed' along Yishun Ave 8 upon the red traffic light signal turning green. Its 4.0-Litre Bi-Turbocharged V8 engine and all-wheel-drive drivetrain instantly picked up speed. Directly behind the G-wagon was the Volkswagen Transporter. Although the specs of the Volkswagen Transporter is not anywhere near the G-wagon, it is still pretty decent (2.0-Litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged paired to a 7-speed DCT transmission). And surprisingly, the Volkswagen Transporter was hot on the G-wagon's heels (Yes, I know. The G63 driver probably did not step hard on the accelerator). As they approached a red light, the G63 driver could not react in time and slammed hard into a stationary Honda Vezel. The impact was forceful enough to push the Honda SUV across the stop line. Some debris were also scattered across the road due to the accident. And yes. Both cars' repair costs are just going to be loose change to the G-wagon driver. Netizens' Comments Its not about the equipment, its about the driver🙂 This is prove that money can't buy skills! Speeding in a G63 is not satki anymore. There's a time and place for everything. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  6. Guys/gals....please take note...should your ride needs to ....better make arrangement. Don't flame me because recall is in USA. Singapore, I am not sure. Volkswagen of America has issued a voluntary recall for about 13,500 vehicles equipped with DSG transmissions. Apparently a faulty temperature sensor in the said DSG transmission is reportedly the problem. Failure of the temperature sensor could result in illuminated warning lamps in the dashboard, and in rare instances the transmission may shift into neutral. The recall affects models like the Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, and Eos built between September 2008 and August 2009. Affected owners are encouraged to call local Volkswagen retailers to schedule an appointment to have their vehicle inspected and repaired.
  7. Guys am considering getting a passat 1.8. Can any owners here comment the experience with this variant? May I know what's the typical servicing costs per 15000km? There's really no topic about the costs here?

    Passat B8

Hi bros, Starting a thread for Passat B8. Collected my Passat Highline on 30 Dec. Great car to drive. Roomy interior. Any B8 bros here? Cheers
  9. While we don’t know what type of influence the driver was under in this accident, it definitely was not a good one. At around 8pm on Saturday (Jan 15), a driver spotted a Volkswagen Jetta driving diagonally in its lane on the AYE. Situated on the right lane, the silver car struggles to maintain its position in the middle of the lane. The vehicle veers slightly to the right now and then, with the driver attempting to correct its direction. Seconds later, disaster strikes as the Jetta veers too far to the right, hitting the road divider of the expressway. The impact of the hit sends the car flying forward, pushing it in the opposite direction. The car flies across 3 lanes and makes its second hit with a large white truck. Both vehicles come to an immediate stop in the middle of the expressway as the cam car drives away. What happened? While there has not been a statement on what happened with the Jetta driver, netizens were quick to offer up their theories. #1: Driver was sleepy The most popular theory was that the driver was too sleepy. Netizens had noted that right before the incident, the car was already constantly veering towards the right of the lane. This could signify that the driver could have been falling asleep at the wheel. Some even shared their personal experiences and anecdotes about driving while being exhausted (which is not something you should do!). #2: Driver was drunk The second theory was that the driver could have been drinking before this incident. Again, netizens related the shaky driving before the incident to the influence of alcohol. They reasoned that there was no way a driver would drive in the first lane if he knew that he was tired beforehand. On the other hand, if one had been drinking, the driver could still take the first lane if he felt fine (despite his judgment being impaired). #3: Driver was distracted The last theory was that the driver could have been distracted by his phone. In this scenario, it would make sense that the Jetta was driving in the first lane as the driver was physically okay. He could have been answering a call or texting – something that some of us are guilty of doing when we are on the expressway. While we don’t know for sure which of these theories are true, the fact is that a driver should not be on the road if he is exhausted or has been drinking. 10. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-volkswagen-arteon-shooting-brake-revealed-sketch The Arteon Shooting Brake (right) and refreshed Arteon (left) Volkswagen has revealed its new Arteon Shooting Brake in a sketch ahead of the production model’s full unveiling on 24 June. It will be launched at the same time as an updated version of the model on which it is based, the Arteon fastback, also shown in the drawing. Volkswagen Group design boss Klaus Bischoff said: “With the Arteon Shooting Brake we have created a new balance between speed, power and space.” The introduction of a shooting brake to the Arteon line-up is a bold move from Volkswagen, with many car makers considering whether even saloons are relevant in their line-ups, given the growth in popularity of SUVs. For example, the new Lexus IS saloon isn't destined for Europe or the UK. As well as the new Arteon Shooting Brake and design tweaks for the Arteon fastback, Volkswagen says the line-up receives “comprehensive upgrades… with new high-tech drives and intelligent comfort and assistance systems". The interior will have an entirely new cockpit, including the latest infotainment system promising the “best possible connectivity”. Volkswagen says that all engines “feature high levels of efficiency as well as low emissions and powerful torque. This maximum efficiency is achieved by innovative, future-oriented engine and emissions technologies.” The Arteon will likely be available with the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel options offered in the saloon, but with added 48V mild-hybrid systems. A hot version from Volkswagen's R division will arrive later, powered by a 329bhp evolution of the familiar EA888 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. The new Arteon duo will also introduce more intelligent assist systems. Travel Assist is designed with long-distance journeys in mind and will “take over steering, acceleration and braking up to speeds of 130mph under the control of the driver”.
  11. Although the company has still high expectation of the previous years of production, the Volkswagen China has announced that it will be burying the highly-accepted Santana by 2012. The company foresees Santana sales to hit 85,670 this year and will taper down to 62,640 in 2010, 48,440 in 2011 and only 30,440 by 2012. To back this claim it must be noted that the company has produced, since 1983, 3,213,700 Santanas. It is not clear why the company will be doing this, but VW China was still manufacturing an older version of Santana, which is popularly known in other markets as Passat. With many taxi companies utilizing Santana as their cabs, the car surely was totally highly-accepted in this particular market. However, rumors concerning the lack of safety of the vehicle that comes from across China might be the reason behind the German carmaker
  12. This video is, as the kids say, very 'happening'. For those confused with what had just happened in the video, let me unpack it for you. We start with the camcar (the Volkswagen Roc driver) driving down Yio Chu Kang road. As the black car in front of him starts to speed, the camcar driver revs his engine and chases his 'friend' in a silly speeding game. As both cars speed down the lane, the drivers try their best to avoid crashing into other vehicles. However, to the camcar's dismay, he crashes into a grey car after entering a bend. Luckily for his 'friend', he manages to squeeze past the car before it changes lanes and avoids a collision. The video ends with several pictures of the blue Volkswagen Scirocco after the crash. Who is at fault here? As evident from the footage of the accident, it is safe to say that the Volkswagen Roc is at fault here. After all, it is common knowledge that street racing is illegal in Singapore. According to the Road Traffic Act, individuals found guilty of street racing will face a punishment of a hefty fine, mandatory imprisonment and forfeiture of the vehicle involved. Following the Tanjong Pagar incident earlier this year, the authorities have introduced a series of amendments to the Road Traffic Act. This includes higher fines and longer jail times for individuals found guilty of street racing in Singapore. First-time offenders will face a maximum fine of $5,000 and up to a year in jail. Repeat offenders will be fined up to $10,000 and jailed for up to two years. Netizens' reactions While I'm not an expert at car insurance, I highly doubt that the insurance company would be willing to pay the Roc driver after they find out about his little game of cat and mouse with his 'friend'. Yep, and they look like this: I thought the video was shot from a third person's perspective as well, it took me a while to realise that it was the Volkswagen driver's POV. 😓 -------------------- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. 15. This is one vehicle we will never get in Singapore! so cool the perk of living in a big nature loving country! I will get one too if I am stuck in Melbourne for COVID-19! sold out till June 2021 😂 https://www.volkswagen.com.au/en/models/california.html
  16. My VW Jetta 2014 model recently have "brake servo failure" with 3 error signs shown (photo). Now this sign came out every time after engine starts. In march 2021 VW Singapore quoted me replacement of ABS/EDL Control Unit for $3,974, of course I refused to do so. Anyone can offer your solution?
  17. Not many cars can claim a history that spans eight generations, but the Volkswagen Golf has done just that. We look at just what makes the Golf the quintessential hatchback, and how this winning formula has been improved with its latest iteration. Ever since the first Volkswagen Golfs rolled off the production line in 1974, the hatchbacks have always managed to win the hearts of families all around the world, offering an unbeatable combination of high value and practicality which has been slowly improved upon over the years and proven so popular the model name has survived to this present day. And with the first shipment of Golfs here in Singapore already sold out, this latest model already looks set to continue on the success of its predecessors. We look at how Volkswagen has once again improved on the Golf’s winning formula, and why it continues to be so popular here. As practical as ever, despite the sleeker look With the current eighth generation Golf, Volkswagen has improved on the exterior design of the new Golf, giving it a sleeker and visually lowered design. However, that has not compromised on the Golf’s long-standing reputation for being a practical hatchback. The new model leaves shoulder and headroom unchanged for all passengers, making it still the practical hatch for anyone or any occasion. And should those passengers need to ferry extra luggage, a 380-litre sized boot stands at the ready, expanding to a generous 1,237-litres if you fold the rear seats flat. But there are other practical improvements with the new Golf beyond just space. The new model has been shaped for increased aerodynamic efficiency, for example, and also gets increased underbody paneling. These improvements aid to cut its drag coefficient from the 0.3Cd of the previous model to 0.275Cd. This means you not only save fuel when driving on the highway, but also get to enjoy a quieter drive while doing so. More opportunity for individualisation, despite being so popular While many here in Singapore may already have secured their next Golf, that does not mean you can’t stand out from the crowd if you’re thinking about buying one yourself! To start with, there are three different variants available here, so you can add as much sporty character as you’d like. Opt for the Life or Life plus if you’re looking for something discreet, while the R-Line will surely cater to those looking for something more aggressive, thanks to its lowered ride height and those touch and slider controls in the cabin. And the scope for personalization expands further once you step inside, thanks to the Golf’s new MIB.3 modular infotainment matrix. The new system allows you to save your favourite settings for items including the air-conditioning, seating position, and exterior mirrors, so you always have your car just how you like it. Better yet is the fact that you get up to 30 ambient lighting options to choose from, so you can always set the mood up in your Golf as you deem fit. And if that sounds like too much to choose from, then simply pick from Volkswagen’s pre-configured options, all selectable from a cool ‘mood menu’! Digital and connected, despite being so familiar Speaking of MIB.3, the cabin of the Volkswagen Golf has also been reinvented, ensuring that it continues to keep with the new demands for connectedness in today’s digital age while still staying fundamentally familiar to those looking to upgrade from the previous iterations. With the new Mk8 Golf, you get all the intuitive controls and switchgear, assembled up to Volkswagen’s familiar high build quality, but the cabin now gets the firm’s 10-inch discover pro infotainment system or 8.25-inch composition system and 10.25-inch digital drivers display, designed to be as intuitive to operate as any smartphone. New features such as voice recognition and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, also further add to the ease of use of the Golf’s newfound connected systems. Embracing the future, while being down to earth It’s not all just show though, for under the bonnet, the Golf also gets new powerplants that now utilise a host of technologies to improve efficiency. Here in Singapore, we are getting our Golfs with a 1.5-litre engine equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system, allowing easy access to the benefits of electrification without any of the hassle of a fully-electrified vehicle. The new engine also comes with Active cylinder technology, which shuts down two of the engine’s four cylinders when they are not needed in a seamless, interruption-free manner, ensuring that fuel consumption is kept to a minimum without any disruption to your driving pleasure. Want to get behind the wheel of the new Volkswagen Golf? Head on down to the Volkswagen showroom at 247 Alexandra Road, or arrange for a roaming test drive here to experience the latest generation of the world’s most iconic hatchback.

  20. Volkswagen, BMW fined $1 billion for colluding to make dirtier cars. https://www.theverge.com/2021/7/8/22568356/volkswagen-bmw-daimler-emissions-cartel-fine-audi-porsche-eu "Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler spent years illegally colluding to slow the deployment of cleaner emissions technology, says the European Union, which is dishing out fines as a result.... ...The scheme described by EU authorities is separate from the Volkswagen Group’s massive Dieselgate scandal, in which the company installed software on its diesel vehicles that helped fool environmental regulators into believing they were compliant, when in reality, they were polluting far more than the legal limit. Dieselgate ultimately led to nearly $40 billion in fines, buybacks, and legal fees for the Volkswagen Group. Daimler also installed software on some of its diesel vehicles to cheat emissions tests and has paid billions of dollars in fines. BMW was careful to point out Thursday that, unlike the other companies it was caught colluding with, it had not cheated emissions testing." 21. @Ct3833 this one OK for you? Everything look good except for the lack of sliding rear doors.
  22. The Volkswagen Sciroccos in Singapore have been getting lots of bad press recently. And it is not getting any better with this video that was created this morning. SG Road Vigilante has reported a video that was posted by a Scirocco's rear passenger showing the driver driving above the 90km/h speed limit of expressways in Singapore. In the video, we can see the car going past 180km/h on the speedometer while it entered into CTE after passing the BMW Z4 and Mitsubishi Lancer in front. We hope they did reach home safely after going along at such high speeds.
  23. Looking for something different in your sub-compact crossover? Lucky you, we are looking at the Volkswagen T-Cross in this video review! We take a look at the aggressive furnishes the T-Cross is graced with thanks to the fact that all cars here are the R-line variant! And the crossover also get some interesting touches at the rear, including its centrally-mounted badging, the new Volkswagen logo, as well as those taillights that run across the width of the car! Watch the full video to see what's what! This T-Cross also has a sliding rear bench, which means that passenger space can be sacrificed if you need more boot space. Talk about practical! And what about on the go? Once again I'm gonna leave you with this simple teaser... Watch the full video to see how the T-Cross fairs in our latest video review!
  24. Bored because you can't travel? Why not challenge your friends to a drag race and get fined under the Road Traffic Act? On 18th January, as seen on SG Road Vigilante, a group of approximately eight people were at this illegal drag race. Seems like there were five spectators, two racers and one starter. It wasn't a very fair race because the starter's hand was blocking the Volkswagen Scirocco. It started later than the Mitsubishi Lancer, who saw a golden opportunity (his view not blocked by the starter) and raced ahead. Where's the sportsmanship, brother? Though, if you ask me, I think this race wasn't about speed. The race track was short, and the cars were driving carefully. Yknow why? Cuz' slow and steady wins the race. Some Facebook users were hypothesizing other reasons for the gathering, while others bashed them for their apparent drag racing. Whatever it is, the uploader shouldn't have bao toh (read: sabotage) his friends. Actually, come to think of it, who was videoing this? Weren't there already eight people in the frame? Or also +1 cameraman? Edit: Added in the original video source https://www.facebook.com/groups/sgroadshallofshame/permalink/1927162840764549/ for easier reference – leaving it to you guys to decide what this 'drag race' really is.
