  1. Will be planning a driving trip to Australia. I'm weighing the option of whether to include the 'Reduce Reliability" package from the car hirer. Generally most Car hirer will charge from AUD$3300 - $5000 excess regardless damge is your fault or not, but with the "Reduce Liabiilty: package, this excess can reduce to AUD $330-440. But this "Reduce Liability" Package don't come cheap, at rounf AUD $26 per day, for a 8 days, trip, this would mean a extra AUD$208 on car rental for peace of mind. Since I'll be buying travel insurance, I'm hoping to find one with good rental vehicle excess. So far checked AIG =$750. AXA=$1000. Tenet=$500, MSIG Premium plan =$1500. Anymore recommendations?
  2. Weather's a b!tch nowadays so bros better take care go drink more water. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1208656/1/.html Heat stroke cases increase with rising temperatures By Kheng Leng/Alice Chia | Posted: 19 June 2012 2148 hrs

  4. Hi Folks: Why is is so ? What is the significance?
  5. My car is due for scrap soon, and am thinking of getting another car. Am budget conscious and no not mind size, style or performance, but as wife and/or my dad might sometimes drive it too, am looking for a car that has auto transmission and also ABS (for basic safety concern). Old car is fine, and am thinking of the non-jap makes as cars of 4-8 yr old came in at time when yen was strong so jap makes should be more expensive? Am thinking of Chevrolet Aveo. Is that the cheapest car that comes with auto and ABS? Anyone has any advice on this? Much appreciated. tks.
  6. heard about the 4 potential winners every week for 1 yr supply of petrol. so whts the deal? min. $50 pumped = 1 chance? btw anyone here won any free fuel b4?
  7. Video: http://razor.tv/video/493414/how-to-deal-w...eckless-drivers Speeding, hit-and-runs and sudden cuts and turns - these are some cases of reckless driving which have made news headlines over the past few weeks. Videos of these incidents have been posted and shared online, thanks to motorists' increasing use of car cameras. Several members of the public have also been sending their videos to citizen-journalism website Stomp to alert others of errant drivers. The official figures for inconsiderate and careless driving are indeed alarming. In 2012, Traffic Police reported 243 cases of reckless driving, which is a 50 per cent jump from the 163 cases in 2011. The number of speeding offences in the first six months of this year has also increased from 109,960 to 129,578 - an 18 per cent rise compared to the same period in 2012. Mr Eugene Lee, a driving instructor at the Singapore Safety Driving Centre, points out that one mistake Singapore drivers often make is to jam their brakes suddenly and excessively whenever they spot a potentially dangerous situation ahead. But "by braking, they will cause danger to others", he adds. So, what should you do when you encounter a dangerous driver? Watch the above RazorTV clip to find out, and click here to see the top mistakes by Singapore drivers. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...s-drivers-the-r
  8. Only median income households in 25 largest US cities can afford a new car. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/03/03/househo...rage-new-car-p/ To quote "The rule states that a buyer should be able to offer a down payment of at least 20 percent, incur financing for no more than four years and endure a principal, interest and insurance totaling up to no more than 10 percent of household income. " Where does applying that rule on Singaporean households put us?
  9. Hi Fellow MCFers, Need your cooperation for this. For those whom have the MCF decal, please drive with due care. We do not want to be called a Tiong Car forum, because of a few individual bad apples that drive without any due care for the safety of others. Do practice road courtesy (things like signal before overtaking.) Should anyone of you spot such behaviour from fellow MCFer, do alert the mods. Thank you.
  10. I just wonder how do they managed to drive around in wet weather with bald tyres? I meant bald to the point where I can't see any threads near the edge of the tyre. On the center only left some faint looking lines. thread wear indicator very visible. Its almost like slicks already. Cause today just saw a car parked at my office there with such front tyres. I wonder how do they managed?
  11. Just a caution for brothers trying to enter with less than 3/4 tank. Noticed recently they've been checking cars entering. Went in twice for supper (after 11pm~2am timing).....once on weekday and once on weekend. Once i was asked to stop for a quick peek probably at my fuel meter (weekend) and another time the car in front of me was asked to stop for a sec probably to check. Not too sure if they checked randomly but just a word of caution for those whom tries.

  14. I was at Ford Leng Kee on 5th of December for the Ford late night sale with a friend who was interested in the Ford Focus 1.6A 5Dr. When we were there, they asked if we needed this 5-point check, and since thinking that it was free. why not go for it? My air-con was in 100% working condition when I sent in the vehicle. When I took back my vehicle after we decided to leave, my air-con, which is the manual knob type, was switched all the way till '4'. I tried turning it back down, but my '1', '2' and '3' didn't work anymore. I called the service side immediately, but they insisted no one from their dept touched my air-con at all. I kept telling them I just want the personnel who turned my air-con to '4' to own up, since it was pretty clear whosoever left it there was the culprit. They then said there was nothing they can do, and I could have sent in the car with my air-con spoilt and now in turn pushing the blame to them. I told them I did not need them to pay for the repairs, I just need the culprit to own up, but they said there was nothing they could do. Angrily, I called up the sales personnel who was with us that night, and she said to call me back and hung up on me. She did not bother to call back, and so I called up the following day again, and all she could say was that she had informed her manager, and there was nothing she could do, and again, she said there was a possibility I sent in the car with the air-con faulty, again!! I repeated myself again I did not need them to pay for the repairs, I just need the culprit to own up, but she said there was nothing she could do either, and accused me of raising my voice at her!!! I sent in my vehicle on the very following Monday on the 7th of Dec, and till now, no one from Ford bothered to call back. I am not against Regent Motors or anything, even though I used to own a Peugeot and had really bad servicing experiences from them. But since I had to go through bad services from them again, I just wish to share my experience and let someone do the judging for me. All I wish for is some justice, and if anyone out there were to be interested in any vehicles from Regent Motors, kindly read through my story and comment, thank you.
  15. So what did you do with your Alfa today? Me, nothing, loaned it to my brother for the time that I was away. Looking forward to getting back soon...
  16. The design looks damn solid.... Hope it makes production. ---------------------------------------------------------- Honda revives the CRX's spirit with a small hybrid concept ---------------------------------------------------------- In early February, it was reported that Honda was working on a small sports car to take some of the "green" spotlight that has been hogged by the Toyota Prius since 2000. Honda later unveiled the vehicle as the Small Hybrid Sports Concept (SHSC) in March. The radical-looking concept was powered by an efficient 4-cylinder engine, Honda's Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system and paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The SHSC's powertrain was rather conventional, but its design was a bit too far reaching to be taken seriously as a production model. Honda is at again and today showcased a new small hybrid sports car in the form of the CR-Z. The CR-Z recalls the lightweight CRX hatchback and features more production-worthy styling than the SHSC. Honda simply describes the CR-Z as a "design research model of a lightweight hybrid sports car," and notes that the powertrain is a carryover from the Honda Civic Hybrid. Given the compact dimensions (and hopefully light weight) of the CR-Z, its fuel economy could end up being even greater than that of the Civic Hybrid which is rated at 40 MPG/45 MPG city/highway. If the CR-Z were to reach production, it would join Honda's Global Small Hybrid (GSH) which is due to arrive in 2009 with a $22,000 price tag. The GSH will be a five-seater with unique styling to tackle the ubiquitous Prius.

  19. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking...ry_608565.html A TEACHER was charged on Monday with two counts of having sex with a 15-year-old student. The 25-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the girl, allegedly had sex with the teen with her consent at a flat in the north of Singapore on May 20 and June this year. He has been suspended from teaching. His lawyer, Mr Shashi Nathan, asked for the case to be adjourned to take detailed instructions and to make representations to the Attorney-General's Chambers. His police bail was extended. The case has been fixed for a pre-trial conference on Dec 27.
  20. After the recent BOMB saga, we cannot rule out more bombs will be found underground in SGP, or even near where we work / live / play. While SAF / SPF / SCDF and what nots are still defending / searching for the best ways to safeguard the safety of we peasants and cover their asz, maybe we should do something ourselves to protect ourselves instead of sitting there like, whatelse, sitting ducks. In the true spirit of self-help, my family has decided to setup our own bomb disposal team, and hope our neighbours will do the same asap as some of them have found some bombs during their morning walk just today!! My DIY homemade bomb-disposal crack team consists of.... only me ....... i had just conducted the team's very first live-exercise right at home... to be precise, in my toilet. After the disposal was done, everyone at home was totally relieved except they complained that the smell from the bomb lingered on throughout breakfast.... But nothing beats doing something ourselve to make our home a safer place.......... please try it, you can do it at home!! Have a safe, though maybe smelly, day!!
  21. If cannot afford, dun drive!!! SINGAPORE: More motorists have been caught tampering with their parking coupons. And most of the offences are committed in housing estates. This is according to figures by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). The HDB caught 400 offenders last year, compared to an average of 150 between 2007 and 2011. The URA caught more than 1,500 offenders last year, compared to an average of 800 between 2007 and 2011. The authorities say tampering with coupons is tantamount to cheating. Those who are caught are liable to fines of between S$80 and S$300.
