  1. Just returned home after getting 2 quotes for some paint rectification works on my car. The first workshop (quite big and established) quoted me $785 and the second workshop (small OMO in a small industrial estate) quoted me $430. I forgot to ask the type of paint that the first workshop uses, but the second workshop is using DuPont Centari paint. My question now is, is $430 a reasonable price to pay? Some pictures below to show the things that need to be rectified, including some small bodywork repairs. All comments are welcome Rear bumper (heat back to shape and respray entire bumper) Rear left door (respray entire door) Front left door (respray entire door, including fixing that mean dent!) 2. Singaporeans feel (rightly so) that each succeeding generation should enjoy a better lifestyle as the economy grows. Instead, young couples are getting smaller flats in further-flung areas with fewer amenities, even as the quality of flats has risen. Small and limited land size could be part of the reasons for this. If for spg's limited land size, we need 6m pple to support the economy which in turn supports the survival and living standard of the same 6m, how many more pple we need to maintain both? If we increase the populaiton to 8m, we need an economy to feed the additional 2m added to the original 6m.... is it a case of the dog chasing its own tail? or the add'l 2m is needed to increase the wealth of the 1%? while the size of the 99% increases but the standard of living of them decrease..... the 1% gains and increases the size of their wealth at the expense of the decline of the well being of the 99% (work harder but getting less in return) I am no econmomist and therefore have no answer. Is the vital link in changing the 99:1 to say 75:25 (ie reducing the GAP) a formula / policies which distribute wealth in a more equitable way? Do we want to see MRT trains and buses filled to the roof and the roads are used by only a few S500, 750, Ferraris etc? There are some dramatisations here, but what we will see in the near future may not be too far from it. Or is it a case of "It cant be helped".... maybe. http://imcmsimages.mediacorp.sg/CMSFileser.../1811PPP064.pdf
  3. I see my colleagues getting so frustrated at work with their bosses. It is not that their bosses are scolding them or anything like that. They are frustrated because their boss wants them to do things their (boss) way. They complain that its a stupid method, they never consider other factors, got faster way.. In the end, some of them will argue with their boss. But what is the point? For me, i will do whatever the boss wants. He wants A, i give A and he wants B, i give B. I dont feel angry at all. End game is to please the boss. Why go through all the frustration? What do you think? Are you like me? By the way, not talking about Big Big boss. I am refering to your superior
  4. if you dont why? if you do why? do you think it is difficult to be a BOSS, looking after the company's interest and yours, but sometimes there will be conflicting priorities, so what to do? if your boss gave you monetary rewards for a job well done or truly appreciate your hard work by praising you infront of your other colleagues and taking you out for a treat, which is better for you (please no bedding or sex afterwards - just plain makan) if you boss keep scolding you, it is often so easy to say your boss is PMT or nut case, but have anyone examine themselves and maybe eureka moment realised that they themselves are the problem is your boss much smarter than you or you are smarter than your boss, if so why are you still working for him or her myself, unfortunately i am my own very boss, no employee yet
  5. say for example my current pay in singapore is SGD X wat shd be the reasonable pay in china considering the following: 1. increment of y% 2. china income tax of z% 3. singapore employer CPF of 12% ( currently cap at 5K) the final pay in RMB will be = X + (X * y%) + (X * z%) + (5000 * 12%) any other things to consider? or are the above considerations valid?
  6. So far there has been no thread on work stress and pressure, as far as i can remember. What is the kind of stress and pressure you face in your job ? 8. since so many people hate to see more red plate on the road... and after i got fine ($1000) and had found a new way to use OPC freely, after talking to the officer there! this is the only way LTA get OPC since police no more care about OPC! almost 2 year, i drive my OPC all the time!!! i drive to work in tuas, lunch in jurong point, IMM... or anywhere in the west, and home at clementi everyday. the trick is: . . . . . . . put a low vaule cashcard (lower then $4.50) into your IU! . . . . . . . yes i works 100%! LTA will get to know OPC drive when u pass their checkpoint... and then they will sent you love letter after that, which that is their prove as your IU number in their database (7am-7pm). so as long as your IU never beep beep (warning of low vaule cashcard) when u drive on the road (if beep beep then u may pass pass LTA checkpoint), you are safe! those real ERP is not helping LTA for now! anyway if beep beep then go back home faster pay $20! just to be safe. for all OPC owner and those who want to buy a red plate! just enjoy!!!! not to worry, there's not many checkpoint around mostly on the highway. so see police car or LTA car, nothing to worry also. all my friends (even some at work) also do this... we use OPC all the time, anytime. MUST MUST MUST remember to put a low vaule cashcard... even you know there no checkpoint... like me i everyday also put in... just in case... LTA set up new checkpoint :)

  14. another wtf article... who was actually surveyed.. how did they conduct the survey?? according to the article..72% of sg employees would be happier working two years past the official retirement age without any additional financial benefit.. funny thing is none of my colleagues felt this way... so i guess we belong to the other 28% of singaporeans http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1136425/1/.html Most S'poreans want to work past retirement age: survey By Jonathan Peeris | Posted: 21 June 2011 2254 hrs SINGAPORE : Singaporean employees want to work past the retirement age and upgrade their skills, according to the latest Randstad Workmonitor survey released on Tuesday. It found that 72 per cent of Singaporean employees would be happier working two years past the official retirement age without any additional financial benefits. The survey also showed that 66 per cent of Singapore employees interviewed said their career now demands more education and training than ever before, while more than a third said they felt their current job was beyond their current abilities. Interestingly, four out of ten people surveyed would prefer a position with more responsibility, even if there was no increase in salary. The survey also indicated a high level of confidence among employees, with 61 per cent believing recruitment of good talent had been increasing since the financial crisis and 65 per cent believing their companies were in a good position to hire well-qualified staff. The findings also indicated a four per cent rise in employee satisfaction to 61 per cent among Singapore employees since its last quarterly release. However, 74 per cent felt that more people would leave to work abroad in the future. Randstad regional director for Singapore and Malaysia, Karin Clarke, said this highlighted the priority for employers to focus on strong talent retention and attraction strategies. The research surveyed 405 Singaporeans from May 2 to 13, as part of a global quarterly survey of 13,565 employees, which tracks employee confidence, mobility, job satisfaction and personal motivation. - CNA/al
  15. Tell me how you feel. Despite waking up early, leaving home at 8am sharp. Reaches the train station at 8.10am and boarded the train at 815am but reaches raffles at only 910am. Sembawang > Raffles Train keeps stopping, not moving. (no announcement) Train idle for 3/5min per station. Train took 55min (almost an hr to reach raffles, i find it ridiculous) Really pek cek. Woke up early hoping and wanting to reach office early but end up late. Train also heavy taffic? Heavy Jam?
  16. #1 ---- Daily meals at coffee shop Stall holders in kopitiams say they have to increase prices coz they need to cover costs and make a living. Since one major component of their costs is rental, why not HDB put a cap on the rentals in heartland kopitiams so that food prices do have be go up, and heartlanders can enjoy their meals at reasonable prices?? Currently HDB charges kopitiam rentals based on bidding system ie the highest bidder gets the place and in turn sub-lets the spaces to stall holders.... the winning bidder takes a cut doesnt matter how high he bids to win..... winner: HDB and winning bidder, lose: customers.... whether the individual stall holders make or not, it depends, but chances are they win also...... the winning bidder and his tenants (stall holders) simply pass the high cost (rental) to the consumers, who LL gotta pay, no choice. If the rental is capped, and draw lot to decide who get the stalls, consumers are 'protected'. Your views? Revert public transport systems to public-run operation Currently, MRTC, SBS etc have to make profits to satisfy shareholders. Passengers' comfort etc are secondary or even further down the list of priority. To maintain high profits, trains and buses are packed even at 11pm.... frequencies of trains/buses are lower than it should be to cope with demands, why? To satisfy shareholders' expectation in dividents. If the operation is changed from profit-oriented to customers-oriented, the 'profits' made can be ploughed back to improve the train/bus services instead of going into shareholders' pockets........... Your views? Any other suggestions?

  18. i know it's an old news but still dun play play ... $450k ... it's better than Q hours to buy a TOTO ticket that one may not kena for a lifetime $450k / 60 years = $7500 per year. have you received yours this year? ********** <last year debate> Mar 4, 2010 BUDGET DEBATE 2010 Substantial aid for low income By Melissa Pang THE Government is providing substantial support to the lower income group, and a family in the bottom 20 per cent household income group earning about $1,500 a month stands to receive financial support of about $450,000 in their lifetime. Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said the support is by way of investing in their education and skills, and helping them build up their assets through their HDB homes and their Central Provident Fund. The Government also supplements this by providing them with cash and support for their immediate needs, subsidies for medical care and temporary financial assistance in difficult times. 23. Firstly, some chemistry should you all forget everything from school. Those who have not been to school, I'm your teacher today. Learn. Water is made of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. Hence H2O. They way they are covalently bonded is in an angle. The H are 60 deg between them and 300 deg on the other. This bond is very stable. Nothng can break it easily. Passing an electric current will not even break them apart. Why is it so difficult? What is so stable cannot be made unstable easily. All these three atoms forming the water molecule is very stable electrically. An equilibrium state that is unmatched for a common substance. The electrons from hydrogen allow the oxygen to be more or less neutral. Electrons on the hydrogen travel so fast around it that it also makes the hydrogen more or less neutral as well. The net effect is a tiny "delta" charge. Oxygen has a tiny delta negative and the hydrogens have a tiny delta positive. This by itself also lends stability to water. A water molecule forms "loose" hydrogen bonds (electron induced attraction forces) with another water molecule. The delta negative from oxygen attracting to the delta positive of the hydrogen. BTW, it is the hydrogen that is donating its charge to the oxygen. So there is a 3 dimensional charge network in liquid water. This is stronger when you freeze water and this attraction charge pulls them all together which makes ice very hard. This charge difference also makes water a solvent. These delta charges enables it to "dissolve" salt which is NaCl. Water pulls these apart using its delta charges to dissolve ionic substance. So you cannot separate water to its individual components for combustion. HHO is basically water vapor. You are actually doing water injection into cars. To separate water into its atomic components of hydrogen and water, you need electrolysis. Then hydrogen combustion is fraught with a lot of engineering problems as well for gasoline powered ICE. Not a problem for diesel ICE. Why? Diesel burns very slow. Ignited by detonation of air/fuel. It is precisely this problem that makes it a good candidate for hydrogen or propane injection. Now there is even CNG injection. That is why diesel ICE can go for dual fuel systems and opposed to bifuel for gasoline ICE. In dual fuel mode with hydrogen, propane or CNG, the burn is faster, harder and you get more power and better fuel economy. Gasoline ICE is different. We don't want fast. We want slow. Detonation is good for diesel but bad for gasoline. Remember, high octane fuel burns slow. You add hydrogen to gasoline and you make it quicker......badaboom! Back in the 80s, there was a hydrogen as ICE fuel documentary. The engineers got a huge problem and they have to solve it with water injectionn to eliminate the knocking. Yes, the same method used by methanol racers and even the siao turbo enthusiasts today. In short all you peole here. Don't do what you don't understand. Concluding: 1. Water as a fuel is a scam because HHO is basically water vapor. You are just doing water injection. 2. To separate water to hydrogen and oxygen gas, you need electrolysis. Lots of pressure, power, everything. If you see videos of HHO systems, you will see there is no connection to the battery. Scam! 3. To use hydrogen as a combustive fuel runs counter to everything a gasoline ICE needs. If you have a diesel, great for you.
