  1. MOTOR RALLYING: Johor to bring WRC to Malaysia Arnaz M. Khairul August 23: AN injection of new life and guaranteed hike in interest is promised if the Johor State Government is really serious about bringing the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) to Malaysia for the first time. But while Johor tourism and environment committee chairman Freddie Long announced the State Government
  2. Link: http://www.testdriven.co.uk/news.cfm/daiha..._world_premiere A striking new Daihatsu sport utility makes its world debut at 'The 61st Frankfurt Motor Show', combining city car manoeuvrability with all-weather agility and ample five-person interior space. The D-Compact 4x4 is a convincing-looking concept car featuring a roomy and practical four-door body that avoids the bulk, high fuel consumption and negative image of some off-roaders. It will be unveiled at 12.45 pm on Tuesday, 13 September in Hall 6, Stand C11. Considerably wider than the current production Terios 1.3 sport utility, the D-Compact 4x4 features a new high-torque 105 PS 1.5 litre DOHC 16-valve petrol engine derived from that fitted to the new Sirion. Its full-time four-wheel drive system includes a mechanical centre differential lock and Vehicle Stability Control. The body includes state-of-the-art technologies safeguarding both occupants and pedestrians. Following Daihatsu's own tests, the D-Compact matched a Euro NCAP three-star rating. Compared to the Terios, the D-Compact 4x4 measures 4,075 mm long (3,845 mm) with a width of 1,745 mm (1,555 mm) and height of 1,760 mm (1,695 mm), while its wheelbase is 2,580 mm (2,420 mm). Further illustrating its squat and stable stance, the front and rear tracks are 1,445 mm and 1,480 mm respectively compared to the Terios Tracker's 1,315 mm and 1,310 mm.
  3. The World Motor Sport Council met in Paris on June 29, 2005. The following decisions were taken in regards to the World Rally Championship. Tarmac safety was looked at and decided that safety cars will be permitted, 1 per P1 and P2 driver. Rallye de France (Corsica) and Rally Catalunya which run on consecutive weekends will require the engine and chassis for each car entered by a manufacturer to be sealed and scrutineered. Lastly, a rule change that will please Skoda and Mitsubishi - who have been campaigning for few events per season. These two teams will be able to nominate a maximum of three (3) events to be absent from during the 2006 season. Details of the decisions: 1. To reinforce safety for all Championship rallies run on asphalt, safety cars will be permitted to cover one passage of every special stage. One car will be permitted for each P1 and each P2 driver. One car from the rally organisation will be permitted for all other drivers. 2. The Rallye de France-Tour de Corse and the Rally Catalunya-Costa Daurada will be run, for 2005, on two consecutive weeks as

  5. Wow, MB been very busy. Launch of A, M Class and the excellent CLS recently, and now B and R Class... Think if priced nicely, the B Class could be popular here, and R would offer a very interesting alternative to the MPV market, infusing it with sedan like looks and MPV carrying capacity. 7. I just got rid of the Daytona C51 HU that came with the Aveo. The 5disc changer as well. Installed a Sony CDX-MP70 that was initially inherited from my bro. What a world of difference. Mind you, this is using stock speakers. The sound is so much more......4ss whuppin'! Then I was enjoying it for a week or two and the HU died! The faceplate can still control the volume. It can seek stations but it cannot light up with its wonderful 7 color display. Can't access the 10disc changer but it can play on its own dedicated HU CD player. So I went off to get another one. Got myself a CDX-F5700 (CDX-5705X in the US). Same 4ss whuppin bass and sound. As for the MP70, the installer took it to check with Sony Support Centre on its cost for repair or replacement. I hope I can salvage what is left. The MP70 is good. Blaupunkt doesn't seem to cut it well. Sorry to Blaupunkt HU users.

  10. Not in my books ..... forget it Rubinho, you can say whatever you want , but everybody knows you are there to play second fiddle to Micheal Shumacher. You have never proven yourself to be champ material , like Coultard. Driving a similar car to Micheal ... wats yr average score per year ?? And with Micheal behind the wheels of the other Ferrari, he'll just radio back to the pits and u'd get screwed over and over again ..... let Micheal pass will always be the voice to haunt you. Rubens 'DC' Barrichello: 'I Will Be World Champ' 15/01/04 Is Rubens Barrichello F1's new David Coulthard? The Brazilian is definitely vying for the role, as his recent 'I'm going to be World Champion' comments have demonstrated. Speaking after Ferrari announced that he's signed for another two years, Rubinho proclaimed to the world that he would one day be the F1 World Champion. "I expect to win races and fulfil my dream of winning a World Championship - at least one. By signing the contract I have at least another three chances of winning the title," a bullish Barrichello said. But the 31-year-old won't be happy about winning the title unless he succeeds in doing it while his six-times World Champion team-mate, Michael Schumacher, is still racing. "I am very proud to work with Michael... racing alongside him is a privilege and not a problem, but I do hope to become World Champion. And if I have to win, I'll win now and not when he retires."

  12. 11/17/2002 UPDATE: Erick's sets another new world record!!! 10.24 @ 128 mph This Civic coupe built by Erick's Racing is powered by a 2.1 liter B18C1 (GS-R) engine that uses TODA camshafts, valve springs, and campulleys to run the quarter mile in 10.59 seconds @ 127mph, the fastest time ever for a normally aspirated Honda engine. What's even more impressive is this engine uses a Hondata ECU, stock ignition system right down to the ignition wires, and a GS-R intake manifold. The engine itself retains the stock stroke and doesn't use any deck plates to increase stroke.

  14. Irvine, CA - There are comprehensive safety systems in modern cars designed to help protect just about every occupant - except the unborn child. Researchers still know surprisingly little about what happens to a fetus in a car crash. To expand engineers' and designers' understanding in this area, Volvo Car Corporation has developed the world's first official computer model of a pregnant crash dummy. This 'virtual' crash dummy is a woman at a late stage of her pregnancy, since that is when the unborn baby is at greatest risk in an accident. The basic geometry was completed in January, 2002 and much time has been devoted since then to refining the model. "Now it's finished and we've started running simulated front-end impact tests on it," says Camilla Palmertz, a biomechanical engineer at the Volvo Cars Safety Centre in G
