  2. Hi All, Newbie here. I am eyeing a 2 year old Daewoo Nubira which is rather affordable. The thing is I could'nt find anything much about this car in the forums that i 've visited. Could anyone who is driving one, please highlight the pros & cons of owning one? Thanks for your inputs. Greatly appreciate it!
  3. Japan's Mitsubishi Motors saw its losses widen in the most recent Japanese fiscal year, as sales continued in their freefall in all the company's major markets. For the recent fiscal year, Mitsubishi's losses topped $4.39 billion, though the wider loss was slightly less than expected in surveys done by Reuters. The company's revenue fell by 16 percent and sales dropped by 14 percent, led by a 37-percent fall in the company's home market of Japan, where Mitsubishi sold just 227,000 vehicles. In the U.S., the company is hoping for a stabilization of sales as new products begin to arrive, starting with the Eclipse that went on sale just last week. A new Raider pickup arrives later in the year, and a rebodied Outlander comes in 2006. Source : http://www.thecarconnection.com/Industry/D...S173.A8661.html Still wanna buy an Evo?
  4. It's not an official record, but this is interesting! 2003 Ugliest Car of the Year Sometimes I'm amazed by what companies are able to sell to the public. And occasionally I feel the need to give my opinion of these products (and thanks to the wonder of the internet, I can with no hope that my small voice will make the slightest difference to Honda). Which brings us to the award for...[/url] 2003's "Ugliest Car of the Year" After being fired from Pontiac for designing the Aztek, "designer" Fred Jones was hired to come up with Honda's answer in the popular Car/SUV/Cardboard Box Hybrid category. His "idea", a "collage" of parts stolen from other SUVs and glued together in Honda's "backyard", was released as the Element. The name, notes a high ranking Honda official, comes from the fact that "we really couldn't think of anything good and our lawyers wouldn't let us call it the Exterralade." A noted expert in the higher numbered elements commented, "Like most of the heavier elements in the periodic table, we're not really sure what it is, and it probably won't be around very long." Industry analysts expect the Element to have a half-life of about 6 seconds, noting that some dealers will probably be able to dupe consumers into buying it in the early days by using the "it's not ugly, it's versatile" sales tactic. Calling it a throwback (to the days when carmakers didn't actually have design departments), Honda hopes to capture the much coveted I-don't-care-what-it-looks-like-as-long-as-my-neighbors-think-it-was-expensive market segment. One exciting feature of the Element is that it comes with an optional "camping" package, including a tailgate cabana and picnic basket roof rack attachment. Additionally all four seats are able to be folded flat to make a "full-size" seat bed. This also qualifies Element to be entered in the running for "Ugliest Tent of the Year." Now, having read that, what do you think is the ugliest car to travel on our roads today?
  5. Hi fellow MCF, I'm thinking of getting a 2+ year old Jazz / Fit. Wonder is this a good buy? Lots of people tell me not to buy 2nd hand, but if I buy new car, got to drive till 10 yrs (it's too long!!). I'm looking at driving for a couple of years and sell it before I decided to settle for a "ultimate" car that I know what I want. Any views? Thanks, jamjammer

  13. The brand that created a genre, then went seriously off the boil, has returned in top form with the debut of the Mk5 VW Golf GTi. In fact it's so good that we've named it 2005 Top Gear Car of the Year. Anyone who drove the Mk4 GTi will see it as quite a surprise, but the GTi's victory is nothing compared with the Jaguar S-Type diesel's, which trounced the new BMW 5-Series and Audi's cracking A6. Other surprise winners include Toyota's Corolla Verso (Family Car) and Vauxhall's Monaro VXR, which was awarded Best Muscle Car. The full list of victors are: Car of the Year Overall winner: VW Golf GTI Hatch Citroen: C4 Family Car: Corolla Verso Dream Car: Maserati MC12 Hot Hatch: VW Golf GTI Supercar: Ferrari F430 GT: Aston Martin DB9 Muscle Car (New Award): Vauxhall Monaro VXR Small Car (New Award): Peugeot 1007 Limo (New Award): Maserati Quattroporte Super Saloon (New Award): BMW M5 SUV (New Award): Land Rover Discovery Executive Saloon (New Award): Jaguar S-Type diesel
  14. Hi everyone, Will scrap my parent's car in a 14 months' time. Unfortunately, the tyres are pretty worn out. Would like to change from the current 225/55/16 Yokohama Aspec DB. Am looking for tyres that are not too expensive, and performs very well in wet weather. Don't mind if it's noisy, not as issue ... i'm going for safety. Tyres have to be brand new, and performs well for 14 months mileage max. 20000km (don't need one that lasts for a long time). Can you recommend me some brands/models, and also indicative prices? Any info would be much appreciated. cheers.

  17. Hi all, Brand new to this forum and brand new at Skoda models. Was looking at the website of skoda, seems like their new Octavia model with the FSI engine has already been in the market for quite long. I'm now confuse about the current model that CA is selling. Isit the new one, but CA did not bring in the FSI version, or isit still old model?? If old model, when do you guys think CA will bring in the new ones? How much more $$ will they sell? Lastly, how is the realibility of Octavia? Anyone encounter weird problem? Hope can find some answers with the contribution of all the Skoda gurus here. Cheers!
  18. Yes you heard it. Somebody has made a turbo kit for the 1.6L Aveo in the US. Have to wait till the show starts then can see from what I heard. There will be custom bracket for nitrous solenoids and length lines. Front and rear strut bars as well. Yummy! Forgot to add, turbo is up to 6psi. So I would say, it qualifies as an LPT. Oh yes, I forgot to add. The Lanos 1.6L DOHC 16V engine is the same as the US Aveo's. This engine with the right ECU will produce 150HP using the stock components. No need for forced induction. If put in forced induction......must install all round disc rotors and upgrade ABS and install traction control .

  24. PCOTY is CAR Magazine's annual look at all the new models released within the year, and tested both on the road and track. The list this year was narrowed down to 11 finalists. The contenders are judged not against each other, but against "criteria that evaluate design, engineering, safety, value and driver appeal." Your job is to guess who won. Remember, the winner "maye not be the fastest, may not pull the highest lateral-g through a constant-radius corner, and may not even look like a sports car. But it will be the car that's guaranteed to spark a warm glow of anticipation every time you reach for the keys..." One vote per person pleeze...
  25. Hi all Have been wondering whether to buy a 1992-1993 Toyota Corolla / Corona that has its COE extended for another 10 years... Are Toyota cars who has aged more than 10 years reliable? Also heard that road tax and insurance would be problematic as well... Please enlighten. Thanks.
