  1. March 30, 2008 Lightning strikes parked car - while owner is still in it By Alex Liam NOT everyone has had a close brush with lightning, but Yishun resident Manimaran Natarajan has. On March 22, the 37-year-old manager parked his Nissan Sunny in an open carpark behind Block 259 in Yishun during a rainstorm. The car's windscreen was hit by a lightning bolt as he was about to open the door, said Mr Manimaran. 'My eyes were blinded for a few seconds before I noticed small glass pieces on my dashboard and cracks on my windscreen.' His maid, who was some distance away in the void deck, saw what happened. His car's insurer, AXA Insurance, agreed to pay the $400 in repairs and towing charges. Spokesman Christina Wee said that in her company's experience, such 'freak' cases occur once every two to three years. The Automobile Association of Singapore (AA) noted that insurance companies may not always pay for any damage since lightning strikes are deemed to be 'acts of God'. These include flooding and hailstone showers. The latter actually occurred in Singapore last Thursday. AA's spokesman added that staying in a car during a thunderstorm was still safer than being out in the open since cars are well insulated. When asked to comment on why the windscreen cracked, Professor Sanjib Panda from the National University of Singapore's department of electrical and computer engineering, sketched two possible scenarios. One, when the bolt hit the windscreen, it left cracks as it tried to move downwards. Two, the intense heat generated on impact caused the windscreen to crack. Mr Manimaran is more wary now. 'I don't feel so safe any more in an open carpark.' http://www.straitstimes.com/Free/Story/STIStory_221886.html

  7. A MRS crashed along Yishun Ave 1 (again) near OCC yesterday morning. Young driver passed away, passenger still hanging there in hospital. My condolences. Decided to post here in the MS folder coz i think it will be good to discuss why seemingly well handled cars didn't seem to help much on SGP roads. MRS is mid engine rwd. Of coz people will say it's the driver, but let's discuss just the car itself for now, and not on track which has smooth surfaces, but on the streets, with all our bumps, cracks and uneveness So assuming all drivers are equal, how much really do the aspects of the car have an impact on handling along Singapore roads. 1. FWD vs AWD vs RWD 2. stability features like LSD or TC etc 3. Sizes of tyres 4. Suspension types like double wishbone, torsion beams etc
  8. i always go by CTE AYE exit farrer road but believe there's a shorter route anyone knows ?

  12. Hi folks, I was involved in a hit and run accident at the junction of Yishun Ave 1 and Yishun Ave 4 at around 5pm just now. I was driving a silver Nissan Sunny(N16 FL) and the van was light blue in colour. I am not very familiar with van models, the van is either a Citroen Berlingo or an Opel Combo. Definitely not those more popular models like Kangoo that can be easily identified. Here's what happened... 1) Both the van and my Sunny were travelling along Yishun Ave 1. The van was in the extreme left lane and I was in the middle lane. Extreme left lane is for left turn only and middle can either turn left or go straight. [inline accident1.JPG] 2) I signalled left and proceed to make the left turn into Yishun Ave 4. Instead of turning left too, the van went straight and hit the left rear door of my Sunny. The rear fender and left front door are also slight damaged. [inline accident2.JPG] 3) The impact forced me to go straight and I stopped at the end of the junction ahead. I turned on the hazard lights and prepared to alight. To my horror, the van turned left into Yishun Ave 4 and sped off. There was some vehicles stopped at the opposite side of Yishun Ave 4, I hope someone who saw the number plate of the van can come forward and help me. [inline accident3.JPG] After seeing the van speeding off, I quickly made a U turn and went back into Yishun Ave 4 but the van was nowhere in sight. I also combed some of the carparks in that area but it was to no avail. After searching for a while, I called a friend who lived nearby and he accompanied me to make a police report at a nearby police post. My particular were entered into the police's system but no statement was issued because there was no injury to anyone. This is the damage done to my ride. I hope any kind souls out there who witnessed the accident can come forward to offer some help to me. Thanks very much. This is probably a long short but there isn't a better solution I can think of now.... [inline accidentsidepic.JPG]
  13. Just saw this accident happened along Yishun ave 1... Hope everybody are fine, especially those kids in the van... And i guess the kids supposed to be okay beside having some shocked... But guess the van driver got injury cause i saw a ambulance took someone away and i guess most likely its the van driver as base on the damage on the van...
