  4. http://sbr.com.sg/economy/news/here-are-6-...poreans-incomes Here are 6 ugly facts about Singaporeans' incomes There's a downward trend in average monthly incomes. According to the Singapore Social Health Project 2013 by the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, declining trend in average monthly incomes and the increasing cost of living have made many Singaporeans feel vulnerable, especially those from lower-income families. The inadequacy of CPF for many who are retiring poses a threat to the well-being of the fast ageing population of Singapore. Singaporeans, especially the lower income, are increasingly finding it difficult to cope with escalating costs. The Gini coefficient has also increased, reflecting greater income inequalities. The report outlines six points that describe the current trends in Singapore's income security. 1. Real growth in average monthly household income per member increased for all residents in 2012; poor households suffered a decline in incomes. Income security in Singapore declined for the low income between 2010/11 to 2011/12. The lowest 10% are the hardest hit with a decline in wages in 2012. Gross real median wages across the common occupations listed by the Ministry of Manpower fell in all nine occupation categories from 2007 to 2011. 2. Cost of living has increased, eroding the purchasing power of savings. The inflation rates of 5.8% in 2011 and 4.6% in 2012 were higher than the average inflation rate of 1.9% over the last two decades. The inflation rates exceeded the 4% Central Provident Fund (CPF) interest rates on the Special and Retirement Accounts. 3. Inequality has increased. The Gini coefficient for Singapore increased from 0.473 in 2011 to 0.478 in 2012. It is the second highest in the world according to the Human Development Report among "very high human development countries
  5. I am casual smoker myself and I am quite fed-up with all the restriction places they put up as Non smoking area. No smoking at HDB void deck and shelter walkway and housing corridors to whatever place they pleases and don't allowed it. I was like PLEASE!! If the Incumbent of this country don't want every smoker to smoke, then simply just Ban importing of cigarette to our country just like what they did to chewing gum and make smoking an illegal act of activity. Really can't stand them. Wanna create difficulties for the smoker to smoke but yet still wanna hold on to the taxes income revenue they make from the consumer and the cigarette company. I rather they Ban smoking totally in our country and dun be a ku niang lidat and point here & point there and tell the public these are the Non-smoking place. Really can't stand them.
  6. Hi, I need some honest help from you guys here. If I already found a resale property I like and know the procedure for loan application, should I contact the seller agent directly and negotiate the transaction? Is there any benefit to engage a buyer agent to act on my behalf? Would a seller agent normally prefer to deal with direct buyer or a buyer agent?

  10. Education Minister Heng Swee Keat hit back swiftly at opposition Workers' Party claims that residents of Punggol East should vote for them to make the PAP "work hard". "PAP has been working hard to come up with various ways to help Singaporeans even when they was no opposition in Parliament," he told reporters at a community event at Tampines Central Temple. Referring to WP chief Low Thia Kiang's rally message on Saturday that people should vote for WP to keep up the pressure on PAP, Minister Heng turned the tables and said, "People should vote for PAP instead to make the WP work hard. "Voters should look at what the various (PAP) MPs have done and contributed in their constituencies and in Parliament," he said. "And I think they will come to the conclusion that they should vote for the PAP to make the Workers' Party work harder for you". He also took pains to remind voters of Punggol East that it's "not about voting more opposition into Parliament". "It's important to understand what this by-election is about. It's about electing the best candidate who can serve the residents of Punggol East," he said, adding that PAP candidate Koh Poh Koon is a "sincere and hardworking man" who understands the needs of residents and will work hard to improve their lives. Minister Heng said after the last General Election in 2011, Singaporeans had given the PAP the mandate to form the government. And the government has been working hard because "it is our duty and honour". He highlighted the recent changes in education as one example of the PAP listening to ground sentiments. "We have been investing in and improving our education system all these years even when there was no opposition in Parliament," he said. Meanwhile, PAP candidate Koh also addressed WP rival Lee Li Lian's claims that as a female voice, she would bring something different into Parliament if she were elected. "Well, I think selecting an MP really is selecting someone to serve the needs of the wide spectrum of the population, so gender shouldn't really play a role," said Dr Koh at a separate walkabout in Punggol East, where he met church-goers outside St Anne's chuch. "All MPs should take care of different segments of the demographic equally well, so I think the selection shouldn't be about gender per se," said the colorectal surgeon, 40. "And I think even at this present moment, we are all trying our best to also take care of different segments: women, children, elderlies and the youths as well". Dr Koh also said he plans to build a new community centre behind the Rivervale Plaza, on top of a wellness centre for the elderly. "We want to put in place more health screening programmes so we can detect diseases earlier, and to do some preventive kind of management for those diseases in the early stages. What we want to do is to leverage on the building of the new CC to in-build some of these programmes and facilities in place," he said.

  14. Some say dryer is good to have some say no. I am kind of torn to get a dryer. What I found from my friend was, after the cloth came out from washer and throw into dryer. It will come out from dryer very fluffy and soft. I like the touch. What say you guys?
  15. Just found out the true story behind it. Please dont ask me how i know. My motive is just to share with you guys, and expose how the media lie to us. Here are a few facts we need to establish. 1-This case has nothing to do with staring. 2-Darren is also in a gang 3-The other gang already targeted Darren for a very long time. 4- Darren was also carrying a chopper. So lets say The attackers are from gang A and darren and his friends are from gang B. Gang B was at downtown east hanging around. GangA knew Darren is going to be there , that is why they are carrying choppers. And also because Darren's Gang(b) "claims" Downtown east as their territory. GangA found Darren and his friend but they aim Darren alone because he is their main target. At first it was just a normal beating. Their intention was to teach Darren a lesson. Then some of Darrens gang members ran to call for backup and some of them ran to get weapons. When the beating was over, GangA walked off. Darren went to grab his weapon and call his backups. They found GangA and Darren provoked them again, not knowing that all his friends actually dont have any weapon and all their rivals has weapon with them. So he act hero, took out his weapon and shouted at them "LAI LA" then GangA also withdrew their weapons. When Darren's friend saw them with weapons, all of them ran. Darren thought his friends would stay behind him and fight together but when he turn around, all of them already ran. Darren tried to run too but ended up hitting the glass and fall down, hence getting chopped. After Darren was chopped, those attackers went to book a challet. The police tracked them down and raided their challet. One guy jumped from the 3rd floor and fall into a 1m deep swimming pool injuring himself (fail) while the others got caught. From my source, Darren is the most guai lan in that group and always provoking others. Do dont listen to all the crap the media is telling you. Like Darren being a good guy, that the incident was because of staring and all the other b-------t. I know which gangs Darren and the attackers belong to but i dont wish to disclose it. Again, dont ask me where i get all this information. I hope this is not an /arrest me thread. =S http://forums.vr-zone.com/chit-chatting/91...y-happened.html

  17. Yesterday lunch time, i parked my car at a car park, head in. And i was sitting inside, doing some stuff before cutting off engine and go for lunch. A lady driver came to my right side, her car wss on my right side, reversed park. As she was opening her driver's door, somehow her body or elbow hit my side mirror and it went backwards. Lady saw it, she knew it. But to my surprise, she just went into the car, completely bo chap! KNN. I was sitting there, looking at the whole situation. and i keep looking at her. She was completely oblivious to it. No guilt, no nothing. I stare at her. And finally she got the sense that someone is in the car looking at her, she look up and had a shock to see me. I gestured to her about my side mirror. She then open her door and twist back my mirror properly. but i can see her face like abit unhappy. KNN. How come drivers can be like that one? Completely no shame at all.
  18. Sedan/SUV was making an illegal U-turn. Bike was turning left from side road. Saw sedan/SUV driver get out and raise his hand with palm out in "sorry" gesture. Biker didn't look seriously injured. I proceeded to LTA Building to alert the guards and one of them walked over to check.

  21. I have an interesting discussion on another internet forum with a friends. It was a 3D design forum, & he commented why another person (from Hong Kong) was making a window (3D) that open outwards. He (Swiss) said he never seen a window that open outwards & comment that even virtual items should follow real world logic. I told him that in Hong Kong, its very populated, & people live in small Apartments (not unlike Singapore). Opening the windows inwards will eat up the already limited space, which is a possiblity why windows are open outwards.. Anyway, we manage to find pictures of windows opening outwards (amazing isn't it!), but he said, oh, but that's not the NORM. I proceed to tell him, that in Singapore, windows normally open outwards or with a slider, so windows opening inwards is not a worldwide norm. Now comes the interesting part.... He said he was curious how many people in Singapore fall out of the windows in the morning! Like a true blue Singaporean, I proceed to provide a picture of a typical HDB window & said, its a requirement to have metal frame on window frame (to prevent what he said, fall out of windows), but people DO FALL out of windows every now & then from cleaning the windows, as the outerside of our sliding windows or outwards opening windows can only be reach......from the outside! Never in my life have it cross my mind that people falling from window to clean windows is just fundamentally how the windows is open! I know someone may say if they (mainly maids these days) are more careful, or educated, this will not happen, but it doesn't change the fact that the design give the issue in the first place. Would you guys have trade a little space, to have the windows open inwards, for a little safety, not just cleaning windows, but also preventing falling over an open window (ok, normally not an issue as we have metal frame). My guess is most people will rather have the extra space, but it would be interesting to hear your views or have how the window is open & its potential problem cross your mind.
