Along the roadside barrier, a lone Honda lay ruined and flipped on its side. The time was around 3:20am, and not a soul was in sight. Found car Photos snapped by the reader showed the vehicle abandoned on the road, probably after having met with an accident. Its front bumper was badly damaged. The car's airbags were deployed and its headlights were still on. According to the reader, the engine was also left running. Missing driver The scene was devoid of any driver or passengers. Strangely, the reader also noted that the car's licence plate was missing and appeared to have been "ripped off". As the interior of the car was dark, the reader ventured closer and shone a light in. Apart from a couple of personal belongings, the car was empty. The reader called the police, who mentioned that they'd take it from there. Mothership has reached out to the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Singapore Police Force to ask for updates.

Imagine minding your own business on the road when suddenly some goondu driver knocks into you TWICE. What happened? A PHV (private hire vehicle) Honda Vezel was heading back to Singapore on the Causeway when they were knocked into by a Malaysian car. GG lah, knock one time and then they step on the gas pedal for another round. Driver went for the double tap. To make matters worse, the driver at fault apparently made the claim towards police that the camcar had suddenly braked, and so she could not stop on time. Upon watching the video, I say… Camcar was travelling at such a slow and steady pace still cannot press the brake pedal??? If anything it even looks like they accelerated a little bit! The camcar’s rental company also can't claim against the Malaysian car because it's a foreign vehicle. After the camcar driver requested a private settlement, she also went MIA,. forcing them to bear the cost of the damage. The camcar driver went on to say in the original Facebook post :“Buy insurance for what? Malaysia car hit us we cannot claim.” They hoped to “get some advice from the comments on how to settle without bearing the cost” , otherwise needing to pay $2000 in excess to their insurance company. An overzealous Volkswagen Beetle was going fast enough in a multi-storey carpark (MSCP) at Bukit Merah Central to break through the metal and concrete barriers. Someone managed to record footage of the incident from their car, likely through dashcam. Can’t imagine how loud that would have been on the outside. According to mid-year traffic situation report released by the police on Monday (18 September), the number of fatalities increased from 45 deaths in the first half of 2022 to 71 in the first half of 2023, a rise of 57.8 per cent. In the same time period, the total number of traffic accidents resulting in injuries or fatalities also rose by 11.8 per cent, from 3,169 in 2022 to 3,542 this year. While the number of red-light running accidents has dropped from 62 in the first half of 2022 to 59 in the first half of 2023, the number of fatal red-light running accidents increased to six, from just one in 2022. Similarly, the number of speeding-related accidents also dropped from 505 in the first half of 2022 to 336 in the first half of 2023. However, there were more fatal speed-related accidents in 2023 - 13 of them, up from six in 2022. There were six fatal drink-driving accidents in the first half of this year, up from three in 2022. Deaths involving vulnerable road users remain disproportionately high Police said they remain very concerned that accidents involving vulnerable road users - such as elderly pedestrians and motorcyclists - continue to account for a disproportionate number of traffic accidents which result in injuries or death. There were 145 accidents involving elderly pedestrians in the first half of this year, up from 120 in 2022. The number of elderly pedestrian fatalities has also gone up from nine in 2022 to 17 this year. Accidents involving elderly pedestrians made up 30.7 per cent of all pedestrian accidents, and 68 per cent of all pedestrian fatalities, in the first half of 2023. "Whilst Traffic Police will continue to educate the elderly to use designated crossings, we would like to encourage family members and friends to also remind them," the police said in their report. The number of motorcyclist and pillion rider fatalities also increased by 28.0 per cent in the first half of this year, up from 25 in 2022 to 32. Motorcyclists and pillion riders were involved in 51.8 per cent of all traffic accidents, and made up 45.1 per cent of all traffic fatalities in the first half of 2023. The top causes were failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to have proper control of the motorcycle, and changing lanes without due care. New initiative to reward pedestrians with good road safety habits Traffic Police will be launching a new "Reward the Pedestrians" initiative on 22 October, where pedestrians spotted exhibiting good road safety habits will be rewarded with a goodie bag. This is similar to its ongoing "Reward the Riders" initiative which start in June, as motorcyclists spotted to be wearing appropriate safety gear and/or displaying safe riding habits are also rewarded with goodie bags. In November, Traffic Police will be organising the anti-drink drive campaign, which aims to remind motorists to be responsible and not to drive after consuming alcohol. In the same month, it will launch the 65th Singapore Traffic Games at the Road Safety Community Park, to educate and inculcate road safety values in young students. "Traffic Police’s efforts alone will never be enough. All road users must play their part in keeping our roads safe," police said in the report. "Road safety is a shared responsibility. Even if you have the right of way on the road, we urge you to slow down, and look out particularly for vulnerable road users."

An auntie was happily walking along underneath trees on the road divider when a taxi came out of nowhere and t-boned another car, narrowly missing the auntie. The auntie was no doubt left shocked from what just unfolded before her and fell on the ground in shock. The incident happened at the junction of Mandalay Road and Moulmein Road. Police reported that the people involved, a 68-year-old taxi driver, a 61-year-old driver and his 45-year-old passenger were conscious when they were taken to the hospital. Two of them were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, while the third was sent to Singapore General Hospital. It is unknown what caused the accident, whether the taxi driver was not paying attention or his brakes failed him. The condition of the auntie is unknown, but I am willing to bet good money she will always cross at a junction from now on. The brakes on the car must be good, rider was wearing no protection and still escaped unscathed. What happened? On 11 September 2023, at Yishun Industrial Street 1 (because OF COURSE it was at Yishun), a food delivery rider on a PAB (Power Assisted Bicycle) ignored a stop line at a junction and was subsequently hit by a car. The car was going at around 30km/h and unable to avoid the rider, who was already onto the road and stopped moving like a deer in headlights. Upon impact, the rider was thrown off his bike and rolled on the road a couple times before getting back up. Rather smoothly, I must say. In an amazing stroke of luck, the rider seemed uninjured, despite not wearing a helmet or any protection. Incredibly, the rider was unsatisfied with simply getting away from a crash unscathed, and demanded compensation for the incident. What phone is worth $1800? And what loss of income bro?? Mazda driver must have thought a giant took a s*** on his car. What happened? A Mazda driver was travelling along Marymount Lane when they no doubt s*** themselves after it looked like someone s*** on their car. As we can see in the video, a construction zone beside the road had some equipment malfunction, with a cable/tube snapping and unleashing a torrent of mud. The unlucky Mazda was able to get ahead by just a bit before the massive brown load splattered all over the road, leaving part of his windshield unobscured while the rear and roof of the car was covered in the filth. What happened? A driver on the Central Expressway (CTE) was on his merry way when a lorry started hurling furniture onto the road. Prayers to the motorcyclist's family. What happened? A Honda Jazz cut off and side swiped a motorcyclist at Yishun Avenue 1 on 23 July 2023, around 9.30 A.M. This sent the motorcyclist off his bike and knocked his helmet off as well, leaving his head unprotected as he crashed onto the tarmac. The motorcyclist laid still on the ground, and another rider who went past the motorcyclist as the incident took place, but stopped and went over to check on the victim. The person who provided the footage claimed to have returned to the scene and reported to the police after dropping off their wife, who called the ambulance. It is unknown if the Honda Jazz had motive or if it was simply reckless driving. Online Chatter Some facebook users who claimed to be the victim’s father-in-law and cousin have commented under the post saying that he is in a comatose state in the ICU. What happened? A massive crash took place in Seletar Expressway (SLE) on 6 July 2023 after a Toyota lorry lost control and skidded, causing a chain collision involving 5 other motorcyclists and a car. As we can see in the footage, the motorcyclists were left with no time to react. One motorcyclist leapt off his bike to avoid the crash, while others were unable to avoid it and caused a pile up. The first motorcyclist was also put between the lorry and a Honda, though the extent of the damage to the Honda is unknown. In the aftermath of the incident, it is shown that shrapnel was left littered across the road, while some of the riders involved were lying on the ground, injured. Fortunately, other riders were present to help them out and ensure their well being. The injured riders were conscious and sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. It is not known what happened to cause the lorry to lose control, or the condition of the lorry driver. This situation almost turned very gory. Watch the video to see why. What happened? A motorcyclist at the junction of Jalan Buroh and Jurong Port Road had the bright idea of stopping in front of a heavy truck, and nearly lost his life because of it. The motorcyclist was likely in the wrong lane for the direction he was heading, as he decided to rectify this by going right and stopping right in front of the truck. This was already an accident waiting to happen. My anxiety could never. And wait they did, as the video cuts to show them being the only 2 vehicles on the road. Soon after, the truck made its move. WIth almost disastrous results. The motorcyclist was knocked down, and his head was under the truck. In a miraculous stroke of luck, his head was knocked back by the truck’s wheel. Bro must have 9 lives for real. Likely driven by adrenaline, the motorcyclist was able to quickly move out of the truck’s wheels. The truck driver stopped and opened the door, but we cannot hear anything they said, if any words were exchanged. We do not have information on the status of the motorcyclist, or if the truck driver indeed missed him before moving. What happened? An accident took place on 21 June 2023 at the junction of Hougang Avenue 3 and Kim Chuan Road, where a traffic police motorcycle hit a 58 year old man, resulting in his death. The police were alerted to the accident around 5.30 pm, and the two ambulances were dispatched to take 2 people to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The victim was unconscious, and died in hospital, whilst the 31 year old officer was conscious on the way. These are the only pictures available of the scene, and no information as to what led to the accident. What happened? The driver who caused a fatal accident on the CTE (Central Expressway) in 2021 has been sentenced to two and a half years of jail as well as a 10 year driving ban. Ng Wen Xun, 35, was reported to have been speeding at up to 215km/h in a Mazda 3 when she lost control of her vehicle, hitting a guard railing before colliding with two motorcycles, another car, and a lorry. Ng’s car then hit the guard railing on the other side before stopping and catching fire. The lorry turned on it's right side, sending two of it's passengers onto the road. Almost all parties were sent to the hospital, with the exception being a 65 year old driver from the other car involved in the crash. One of the motorcyclists, 31, died in the hospital after succumbing to their injuries. One of the lorry passengers was found to have fractures to his spine, needing to be hospitalised for 9 days. Ng pleaded guilty to two charges of dangerous driving, one causing death and another of causing grievous hurt. However, her lawyer said her client exhibited a "very limited manner of dangerous driving". To add to this point, Ms Chee brought up how the situation occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, and so there were fewer road users due to the hybrid work situation. She said her client has "genuine remorse" and is deeply apologetic and "very, very sorry" for the loss of life she has caused. Ng will serve her jail sentence beginning from June 12, or pay bail set at $15,000 on Monday. If convicted for dangerous driving causing death, one can be jailed between two and eight years and banned from driving for 10 years. The consequences of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt are a jail term between a year and five years, as well as a driving ban of eight years. We’ve seen many examples of bad driving in this forum, but this one is just malicious. What happened? On 11 May, 8.51 a.m. at Tampines Expressway, a Hyundai Elantra driver decided to hit a motorcycle while disguising it as lane filtering. As you can see in the video, the Hyundai was coming in from another road to join the expressway. Immediately the Hyundai went across multiple lanes at once, and headed for the motorcycle like a missile. The motorcyclist had a pillion rider as well, and both of them were sent rolling across the tarmac, their bike skidding away. The Hyundai showed no remorse for the move, as there was not even a hint of braking or turning away before the impact. The driver simply continued on their way like nothing happened, not stopping to check if he committed vehicular manslaughter. We can see when the Hyundai driver passes the camcar that he left his turn signal on when he was “lane filtering”. This reminded me of when I was young and addicted to the Asphalt racing games. Remember how you’d boost with nitro and ram into the side of your opponent to prevent them from getting past you? This one is like that, but with less cool cars. What happened? On 5 May 2023, a Skoda Octavia on the ECP Expressway tried to overtake a camcar and ended up getting pit manouevred, causing it to hit the railing. The Skoda was initially keeping a safe distance behind the camcar, moving left to enter another lane. To the Skoda’s credit they used their signals for this move. However, when trying to overtake the camcar, the Skoda misjudged its speed and turned in too early, with the back end of the car still within reach of the camcar. We can’t see if the Skoda turned on its turn signal in the footage. If it did, some blame can be shifted to the camcar for not slowing down for it. But looking at the footage, we can also see the Skoda took no time to check if it cleared the camcar and went for the overtake very quickly. So regardless if the camcar made a mistake, the majority of the blame is still squarely on the Skoda. Fortunately the accident does not seem severe, as the Skoda got away with some minor damage to it’s exterior. Volvo is pretty renowned for how safe their cars are. The brand’s models qualify for the highest possible safety rating from the IIHS (International Institute for Highway Safety) and there's tons of airbags to protect the car's occupants no matter the point of impact. Nonetheless, this driver’s behaviour still isn’t advisable. What happened? On 1st May at Thomson Road, a camcar was minding their own business when a Volvo V40 tried to merge from a minor road to the major road that the cam car is on. It is unclear what was the Volvo driver’s thinking process but it had to be influenced by something (probably starting with A) in order to think this was a good idea. The Volvo driver went across not one, not two, but three lanes before stopping just in time to avoid kissing the wall and expensive repairs. According to the Facebook post, a bus also needed to jam brakes along with the camcar. It’s a shame there’s no audio in the footage because I know it’d be colorful. Now I know why when you make a mess it’s sometimes called a skidmark. Watch this video to see what kind of mess the lorry and taxi made when they came together. What happened? On 1 May 2023, a crash involving a lorry and a Hyundai taxi took place at the junction of Bras Basah Road and Nicoll Highway in front of Suntec Convention Centre. It is unclear as to the causes of the crash as the two cars are faced away from each other. The lorry was facing towards the entrance of Esplanade MRT while the taxi still faced the direction of the road. Think of one of those diagrams for vectors in O-Levels (ughhhhh). On 17 April yesterday, a motorcyclist and their passenger hit a Nissan NV350 while changing lanes on the Pan-Island Expressway. Yeah, ‘big whoop’, I hear you say, but what gets me is how avoidable this was. Another biker was able to continue in that same lane with no issues. You could argue it’s that other biker’s fault, since they passed them right before they were about to change lanes. But they were still facing the road and so could see that this biker was going way faster than them. There was also enough distance to see that there was plenty of time to slow down. However, if you look at the Nissan, notice how it accelerated before slowing down as well. Yet even once it slowed down, there’s a solid two seconds before our main biker hit the Nissan with no signs of braking. Regardless of external factors, bro does not know what braking is.
