  1. Source: https://mothership.sg/2024/02/car-overturn-accident-seletar/ A Mothership reader passed by the junction of Seletar Link and Seletar North Link in the dead of night, and was met with a worrying scene. Along the roadside barrier, a lone Honda lay ruined and flipped on its side. The time was around 3:20am, and not a soul was in sight. Found car Photos snapped by the reader showed the vehicle abandoned on the road, probably after having met with an accident. Its front bumper was badly damaged. The car's airbags were deployed and its headlights were still on. According to the reader, the engine was also left running. Missing driver The scene was devoid of any driver or passengers. Strangely, the reader also noted that the car's licence plate was missing and appeared to have been "ripped off". As the interior of the car was dark, the reader ventured closer and shone a light in. Apart from a couple of personal belongings, the car was empty. The reader called the police, who mentioned that they'd take it from there. Mothership has reached out to the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Singapore Police Force to ask for updates.
  2. Imagine minding your own business on the road when suddenly some goondu driver knocks into you TWICE. What happened? A PHV (private hire vehicle) Honda Vezel was heading back to Singapore on the Causeway when they were knocked into by a Malaysian car. GG lah, knock one time and then they step on the gas pedal for another round. Driver went for the double tap. To make matters worse, the driver at fault apparently made the claim towards police that the camcar had suddenly braked, and so she could not stop on time. Upon watching the video, I say… Camcar was travelling at such a slow and steady pace still cannot press the brake pedal??? If anything it even looks like they accelerated a little bit! The camcar’s rental company also can't claim against the Malaysian car because it's a foreign vehicle. After the camcar driver requested a private settlement, she also went MIA,. forcing them to bear the cost of the damage. The camcar driver went on to say in the original Facebook post :“Buy insurance for what? Malaysia car hit us we cannot claim.” They hoped to “get some advice from the comments on how to settle without bearing the cost” , otherwise needing to pay $2000 in excess to their insurance company. Online chatter Unfortunately, it seems people in similar plights have found no solution to this either. Hope the camcar manages to get the situation resolved… ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 3. There’s a time and place to go fast guys, and the carpark is not one of them. What happened? An overzealous Volkswagen Beetle was going fast enough in a multi-storey carpark (MSCP) at Bukit Merah Central to break through the metal and concrete barriers. Someone managed to record footage of the incident from their car, likely through dashcam. Can’t imagine how loud that would have been on the outside. Hope there wasn’t anyone under the car with those bricks sent flying. Online chatter People speculated on why he ended up here, and noted his choice of car for this stunt. Others also made jokes on his skill (or lack thereof). ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. Source: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/traffic-accident-deaths-singapore-spiked-first-half-2023-104326424.html SINGAPORE — More people have died of traffic accidents in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period last year. According to mid-year traffic situation report released by the police on Monday (18 September), the number of fatalities increased from 45 deaths in the first half of 2022 to 71 in the first half of 2023, a rise of 57.8 per cent. In the same time period, the total number of traffic accidents resulting in injuries or fatalities also rose by 11.8 per cent, from 3,169 in 2022 to 3,542 this year. While the number of red-light running accidents has dropped from 62 in the first half of 2022 to 59 in the first half of 2023, the number of fatal red-light running accidents increased to six, from just one in 2022. Similarly, the number of speeding-related accidents also dropped from 505 in the first half of 2022 to 336 in the first half of 2023. However, there were more fatal speed-related accidents in 2023 - 13 of them, up from six in 2022. There were six fatal drink-driving accidents in the first half of this year, up from three in 2022. Deaths involving vulnerable road users remain disproportionately high Police said they remain very concerned that accidents involving vulnerable road users - such as elderly pedestrians and motorcyclists - continue to account for a disproportionate number of traffic accidents which result in injuries or death. There were 145 accidents involving elderly pedestrians in the first half of this year, up from 120 in 2022. The number of elderly pedestrian fatalities has also gone up from nine in 2022 to 17 this year. Accidents involving elderly pedestrians made up 30.7 per cent of all pedestrian accidents, and 68 per cent of all pedestrian fatalities, in the first half of 2023. "Whilst Traffic Police will continue to educate the elderly to use designated crossings, we would like to encourage family members and friends to also remind them," the police said in their report. The number of motorcyclist and pillion rider fatalities also increased by 28.0 per cent in the first half of this year, up from 25 in 2022 to 32. Motorcyclists and pillion riders were involved in 51.8 per cent of all traffic accidents, and made up 45.1 per cent of all traffic fatalities in the first half of 2023. The top causes were failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to have proper control of the motorcycle, and changing lanes without due care. New initiative to reward pedestrians with good road safety habits Traffic Police will be launching a new "Reward the Pedestrians" initiative on 22 October, where pedestrians spotted exhibiting good road safety habits will be rewarded with a goodie bag. This is similar to its ongoing "Reward the Riders" initiative which start in June, as motorcyclists spotted to be wearing appropriate safety gear and/or displaying safe riding habits are also rewarded with goodie bags. In November, Traffic Police will be organising the anti-drink drive campaign, which aims to remind motorists to be responsible and not to drive after consuming alcohol. In the same month, it will launch the 65th Singapore Traffic Games at the Road Safety Community Park, to educate and inculcate road safety values in young students. "Traffic Police’s efforts alone will never be enough. All road users must play their part in keeping our roads safe," police said in the report. "Road safety is a shared responsibility. Even if you have the right of way on the road, we urge you to slow down, and look out particularly for vulnerable road users."
  5. If there was ever a sign from a higher power to stop doing something, this is definitely one. What happened? An auntie was happily walking along underneath trees on the road divider when a taxi came out of nowhere and t-boned another car, narrowly missing the auntie. The auntie was no doubt left shocked from what just unfolded before her and fell on the ground in shock. The incident happened at the junction of Mandalay Road and Moulmein Road. Police reported that the people involved, a 68-year-old taxi driver, a 61-year-old driver and his 45-year-old passenger were conscious when they were taken to the hospital. Two of them were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, while the third was sent to Singapore General Hospital. It is unknown what caused the accident, whether the taxi driver was not paying attention or his brakes failed him. The condition of the auntie is unknown, but I am willing to bet good money she will always cross at a junction from now on. Online chatter People commented on the auntie’s luck to have been so close to danger, maybe inches away from injury or worse. Others commented on the speed the taxi was going. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 6. The brakes on the car must be good, rider was wearing no protection and still escaped unscathed. What happened? On 11 September 2023, at Yishun Industrial Street 1 (because OF COURSE it was at Yishun), a food delivery rider on a PAB (Power Assisted Bicycle) ignored a stop line at a junction and was subsequently hit by a car. The car was going at around 30km/h and unable to avoid the rider, who was already onto the road and stopped moving like a deer in headlights. Upon impact, the rider was thrown off his bike and rolled on the road a couple times before getting back up. Rather smoothly, I must say. In an amazing stroke of luck, the rider seemed uninjured, despite not wearing a helmet or any protection. Incredibly, the rider was unsatisfied with simply getting away from a crash unscathed, and demanded compensation for the incident. What phone is worth $1800? And what loss of income bro?? Online chatter Quite a few people felt the demands were unjustified, with many different reasons. Others simply urged the camcar to just make a police report and claim their insurance instead. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 7. Mazda driver must have thought a giant took a s*** on his car. What happened? A Mazda driver was travelling along Marymount Lane when they no doubt s*** themselves after it looked like someone s*** on their car. As we can see in the video, a construction zone beside the road had some equipment malfunction, with a cable/tube snapping and unleashing a torrent of mud. The unlucky Mazda was able to get ahead by just a bit before the massive brown load splattered all over the road, leaving part of his windshield unobscured while the rear and roof of the car was covered in the filth. The brown shower did not end there however, as we see the mud continue to gush out of a tube before it finally ended. If there is a silver lining, maybe it’s that it could have smelled worse? Online chatter Some made joke of the free ‘mud bath’. Others were a little more concerned that this could happen, as if it was metal or concrete that fell instead there would be far more damage and possible casualties. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 8. There is never a day that doesn't look busy for you. After dropping the older girl off at school, then her younger brother off at his childcare centre, you'll have to take Mum either for the routine health check-up, or help ferry her around for those mahjong get-togethers with her friends. That's even before bringing in all the other household errands, and the personal appointments you have yourself. In other words, having your car at your disposal would really help to save your time. But accidents on the road do happen - even if they're not of our own making. If your car needs some downtime in the workshop due to an accident, what comes next? If your mind is already floating towards struggling with booking private rides, layers of tedious paperwork, and countless phone calls between the multiple parties involved, fret not. A simple yet comprehensive answer exists in the market today, ensuring that nothing will drastically disrupt whatever you plan on a daily basis for your family (and yourself). The importance of tailoring coverage to specific needs It goes without saying that having some coverage for yourself and your car is a necessity. A week (if you're lucky), or worse, an entire month (if you're not) can be thrown into disarray, if this isn't something you've made sure to deal properly with. Apart from this, getting a good deal is also foremost on every driver's mind. How far this coverage should extend, however, ultimately depends on the driver. After all, different lifestyles bring different risks with them. A simpler scheme, like the FWD Car Insurance (Classic Plan), already ensures that your bases are sufficiently covered: For medical expenses in the event of injuries in an accident, repair, and replacement costs, as well as extended workmanship guarantees for repairs handled by FWD's certified workshops. For drivers who have already accrued a pre-existing No-Claim Discount (NCD) of 50% for behaving well on our roads, signing up with FWD also ensures a Lifetime 50% NCD guarantee - as long as they remain a customer. FWD is currently the only insurer that offers this. What about those who prefer something more comprehensive so that their partner who also occasionally drives can be insured? (This will come in even more handy when the kids get their licenses, and take the car out for meet-ups.) Apart from bumping up your daily transport allowance, moving upwards to the Executive Plan already removes another huge stressor by allowing you to cover anyone who drives your car, without the complexity of you having to name them. If your personal belongings are damaged, you'll be able to get some reimbursement too. Furthermore, it unlocks the usage of a courtesy car, provided, and arranged for by FWD Insurance, that will dutifully accompany you until repairs for your own car are complete. These benefits are available too under the even more intensive Prestige plan, for which the levels of financial coverage are taken another notch higher. On that note… Taking comprehensiveness a (unique) step further What exactly is a courtesy car, you may ask? Instead of having to source for alternative transport options on your own with the allowance provided, a courtesy car is effectively given directly to you for use - so that you can very quickly get back into your schedule. This isn't an exaggeration too; you could technically pick up the car, but FWD can arrange for it to be delivered straight to you. As for what happens with your actual car, one of FWD's network premium workshops, spanning 15 locations islandwide, promises to help ensure your car is assessed and expertly dealt with. If you would rather engage your preferred car workshops for servicing and repairs, both the Executive and Prestige plans also give you the freedom to pick the repair workshop of your choice. Worth noting is that FWD's plans are unique by the very quality of offering both of these benefits simultaneously! A dedicated "personal assistant" for all your claims-related needs All of what has been mentioned thus far may sound like quite a lot to digest - and it rightfully is so; with a certain level of comprehensiveness also comes a certain level of complexity naturally. The best part about FWD's plans, however, is the assurance that all this can be simplified with one extra, crucial component: A claims concierge. This dedicated 'personal assistant' will be there with you every step of the way. It starts with arranging the aforementioned courtesy car, and then, of course, continues with timely updates on the status of your car repair as it's in the workshop. Not sure what the next step is? That's okay - the concierge will bring his/her own experience to the table, ensuring that proper corrective actions are taken. If multiple parties are involved, the concierge will shoulder the tediousness of the coordination too, while also dealing with all the unwieldy paperwork tied inextricably to the case. (One can only imagine how much time they'd be saving if the process of ironing out issues turns out to be very long-drawn.) You'll finally be promptly informed when your car is ready for collection. Arrangements will be made for the handover of the courtesy car, too, for those who've opted for and utilised it. Final note: Building your own insurance plan on a solid base We've merely scraped the tip of the iceberg here. For instance, excess amounts can be adjusted further, and those who do road trips up North - all the way into West Malaysia and Southern Thailand - can even opt for additional coverage. Underpinning this tailored customisability, however, is the same security one will feel knowing that their coverage is comprehensive, that no additional headaches will arise regardless of what happens on the road. 9. Bro has been putting off getting his eyes checked for too long already. What happened? A Honda Vezel driver decided to seek clarification from a split road sign on Clementi road, which led to him mounting the kerb and hitting the sign too. You can see the exact moment he realised that he was too close and hit the brakes. Like come on lah, the literal 2 split roads aren’t enough?? But it was too late, and he had to fully mount the kerb before getting 2 wheels back down on the road. GG to his alignment. Online chatter Because this happened yesterday on 9th August, some believed he was just feeling extra patriotic. There’s always the usual jokes and comments at bad driving… Some also enjoyed the background music playing during the recording. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 10. The vitriol in the comments is palpable. What happened? A motorcyclist hit a Volkswagen Golf while lanesplitting on the Pan-Island expressway (PIE) on 7th August. The motorcyclist made a sudden swerve and hit the car, causing him to flip forwards and off his bike. Looks like when an NPC glitches out in a video game. What has people in the comments riled up is that the motorcyclist was registered under a Malaysian plate, which would (apparently) make it difficult for the Golf driver to get compensation for damages as it is a foreign vehicle. Online chatter Some blamed the motorcyclist for the crash, coming up with a multitude of reasons. Others took pity on the driver’s situation, which was indeed very suay. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 11. If anyone would like to have some furniture for their home, apparently just driving around could net you some free goods! Whether or not you’ll get them in good condition, however, is another issue. What happened? A driver on the Central Expressway (CTE) was on his merry way when a lorry started hurling furniture onto the road. The white dresser (looks like it?) slid off the top of the lorry straight onto the driver’s path, getting run over and destroyed. Bro almost got hit with a blue shell from Mario Kart. The driver who submitted the video was quoted saying “Lucky didn't hit my windscreen. TP pls watch out for these dangerous overloaded pickup.” Pretty reasonable reaction if you ask me. Online chatter Others agreed, thinking this situation would be dangerous especially for riders. Many blamed the lorry for being irresponsible, as it was overpacked and on the wrong lane (among other reasons). ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 12. Prayers to the motorcyclist's family. What happened? A Honda Jazz cut off and side swiped a motorcyclist at Yishun Avenue 1 on 23 July 2023, around 9.30 A.M. This sent the motorcyclist off his bike and knocked his helmet off as well, leaving his head unprotected as he crashed onto the tarmac. The motorcyclist laid still on the ground, and another rider who went past the motorcyclist as the incident took place, but stopped and went over to check on the victim. The person who provided the footage claimed to have returned to the scene and reported to the police after dropping off their wife, who called the ambulance. It is unknown if the Honda Jazz had motive or if it was simply reckless driving. Online Chatter Some facebook users who claimed to be the victim’s father-in-law and cousin have commented under the post saying that he is in a comatose state in the ICU. Others sent well wishes for the victim’s recovery, and called for the driver to face justice and dealt with severely. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 13. What happened? A massive crash took place in Seletar Expressway (SLE) on 6 July 2023 after a Toyota lorry lost control and skidded, causing a chain collision involving 5 other motorcyclists and a car. As we can see in the footage, the motorcyclists were left with no time to react. One motorcyclist leapt off his bike to avoid the crash, while others were unable to avoid it and caused a pile up. The first motorcyclist was also put between the lorry and a Honda, though the extent of the damage to the Honda is unknown. In the aftermath of the incident, it is shown that shrapnel was left littered across the road, while some of the riders involved were lying on the ground, injured. Fortunately, other riders were present to help them out and ensure their well being. The injured riders were conscious and sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. It is not known what happened to cause the lorry to lose control, or the condition of the lorry driver. Online chatter Many blamed the lorry for the incident, some giving their own experiences of how heavy vehicles are in the wrong lanes. A couple of people however, blamed the bikes for lane splitting. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 14. This situation almost turned very gory. Watch the video to see why. What happened? A motorcyclist at the junction of Jalan Buroh and Jurong Port Road had the bright idea of stopping in front of a heavy truck, and nearly lost his life because of it. The motorcyclist was likely in the wrong lane for the direction he was heading, as he decided to rectify this by going right and stopping right in front of the truck. This was already an accident waiting to happen. My anxiety could never. And wait they did, as the video cuts to show them being the only 2 vehicles on the road. Soon after, the truck made its move. WIth almost disastrous results. The motorcyclist was knocked down, and his head was under the truck. In a miraculous stroke of luck, his head was knocked back by the truck’s wheel. Bro must have 9 lives for real. Likely driven by adrenaline, the motorcyclist was able to quickly move out of the truck’s wheels. The truck driver stopped and opened the door, but we cannot hear anything they said, if any words were exchanged. We do not have information on the status of the motorcyclist, or if the truck driver indeed missed him before moving. Online chatter The comment section is pretty unanimous in how it is the motorcyclist’s fault for stopping in the truck's blind spot ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 15. What happened? An accident took place on 21 June 2023 at the junction of Hougang Avenue 3 and Kim Chuan Road, where a traffic police motorcycle hit a 58 year old man, resulting in his death. The police were alerted to the accident around 5.30 pm, and the two ambulances were dispatched to take 2 people to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The victim was unconscious, and died in hospital, whilst the 31 year old officer was conscious on the way. These are the only pictures available of the scene, and no information as to what led to the accident. Online chatter Some speculate as to what happened, as there is apparently an overhead bridge nearby. Some wonder what will happen to the police officer, calling for imprisonment to avoid double standards. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 16. What happened? The driver who caused a fatal accident on the CTE (Central Expressway) in 2021 has been sentenced to two and a half years of jail as well as a 10 year driving ban. Ng Wen Xun, 35, was reported to have been speeding at up to 215km/h in a Mazda 3 when she lost control of her vehicle, hitting a guard railing before colliding with two motorcycles, another car, and a lorry. Ng’s car then hit the guard railing on the other side before stopping and catching fire. The lorry turned on it's right side, sending two of it's passengers onto the road. Almost all parties were sent to the hospital, with the exception being a 65 year old driver from the other car involved in the crash. One of the motorcyclists, 31, died in the hospital after succumbing to their injuries. One of the lorry passengers was found to have fractures to his spine, needing to be hospitalised for 9 days. Ng pleaded guilty to two charges of dangerous driving, one causing death and another of causing grievous hurt. However, her lawyer said her client exhibited a "very limited manner of dangerous driving". To add to this point, Ms Chee brought up how the situation occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, and so there were fewer road users due to the hybrid work situation. She said her client has "genuine remorse" and is deeply apologetic and "very, very sorry" for the loss of life she has caused. Ng will serve her jail sentence beginning from June 12, or pay bail set at $15,000 on Monday. If convicted for dangerous driving causing death, one can be jailed between two and eight years and banned from driving for 10 years. The consequences of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt are a jail term between a year and five years, as well as a driving ban of eight years. Online chatter People questioned how Ng was going so fast. Others criticised the sentence, feeling that the judge was too lenient and that the punishment should have been harsher. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 17. We’ve seen many examples of bad driving in this forum, but this one is just malicious. What happened? On 11 May, 8.51 a.m. at Tampines Expressway, a Hyundai Elantra driver decided to hit a motorcycle while disguising it as lane filtering. As you can see in the video, the Hyundai was coming in from another road to join the expressway. Immediately the Hyundai went across multiple lanes at once, and headed for the motorcycle like a missile. The motorcyclist had a pillion rider as well, and both of them were sent rolling across the tarmac, their bike skidding away. The Hyundai showed no remorse for the move, as there was not even a hint of braking or turning away before the impact. The driver simply continued on their way like nothing happened, not stopping to check if he committed vehicular manslaughter. We can see when the Hyundai driver passes the camcar that he left his turn signal on when he was “lane filtering”. Uproar Motorists of all sorts were none too pleased by such behaviour on the road, condemning the Hyundai driver Others also noted how the incident looked intentional, as the driver showed no concern after hitting the bike. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 18. This reminded me of when I was young and addicted to the Asphalt racing games. Remember how you’d boost with nitro and ram into the side of your opponent to prevent them from getting past you? This one is like that, but with less cool cars. What happened? On 5 May 2023, a Skoda Octavia on the ECP Expressway tried to overtake a camcar and ended up getting pit manouevred, causing it to hit the railing. The Skoda was initially keeping a safe distance behind the camcar, moving left to enter another lane. To the Skoda’s credit they used their signals for this move. However, when trying to overtake the camcar, the Skoda misjudged its speed and turned in too early, with the back end of the car still within reach of the camcar. We can’t see if the Skoda turned on its turn signal in the footage. If it did, some blame can be shifted to the camcar for not slowing down for it. But looking at the footage, we can also see the Skoda took no time to check if it cleared the camcar and went for the overtake very quickly. So regardless if the camcar made a mistake, the majority of the blame is still squarely on the Skoda. Fortunately the accident does not seem severe, as the Skoda got away with some minor damage to it’s exterior. Online chatter Some netizens seem to think that the camcar sped up in the footage, and that they were hogging the lane. Others just blame the skoda for being impatient and overtaking. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 19. Volvo is pretty renowned for how safe their cars are. The brand’s models qualify for the highest possible safety rating from the IIHS (International Institute for Highway Safety) and there's tons of airbags to protect the car's occupants no matter the point of impact. Nonetheless, this driver’s behaviour still isn’t advisable. What happened? On 1st May at Thomson Road, a camcar was minding their own business when a Volvo V40 tried to merge from a minor road to the major road that the cam car is on. It is unclear what was the Volvo driver’s thinking process but it had to be influenced by something (probably starting with A) in order to think this was a good idea. The Volvo driver went across not one, not two, but three lanes before stopping just in time to avoid kissing the wall and expensive repairs. According to the Facebook post, a bus also needed to jam brakes along with the camcar. It’s a shame there’s no audio in the footage because I know it’d be colorful. The Volvo then drove off without a word, but likely with stained pants. Online chatter Once again, the standards of our driving school are called into question. Others asked if the driver had a license at all. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 20. Now I know why when you make a mess it’s sometimes called a skidmark. Watch this video to see what kind of mess the lorry and taxi made when they came together. What happened? On 1 May 2023, a crash involving a lorry and a Hyundai taxi took place at the junction of Bras Basah Road and Nicoll Highway in front of Suntec Convention Centre. It is unclear as to the causes of the crash as the two cars are faced away from each other. The lorry was facing towards the entrance of Esplanade MRT while the taxi still faced the direction of the road. Think of one of those diagrams for vectors in O-Levels (ughhhhh). The lorry has been flipped to its side, while the taxi is some distance away from it with an open fuel tank and missing its entire front end. I’m really confused by this crash because the taxi is some distance away from the lorry, facing a completely different direction than the lorry even after impact. But somehow it was not hit with enough force to flip the taxi over or deal more structural damage. The video also shows a glimpse of a deployed airbag in the taxi, but no signs of any one having been inside the vehicle. SCDF personnel were present to close off the scene and gather evidence from the taxi. The taxi also left a trail of fluids behind it and intermittent skid marks on the road. If the trail is wet, does it become diarrhea instead? We do not know the condition of the drivers or if any pedestrians were involved. Online chatter Many speculate speeding on at least one driver’s fault, with one commenter joking about testing the new F1 route. And of course, someone had to bring attention to the skid mark. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 21. TL;DR - Domino's Pizza delivery bike plays real-life game of dodge the NV200 at a discretionary right turn Pizza delivery gone wrong. Watch this 40 second clip of the collision. What Happened? A Nissan NV200 collided with a Domino's Pizza delivery bike at the discretionary right turn junction on Pioneer North Road in Singapore, under the PIE Flyover. According to eyewitnesses, the Domino's Pizza delivery bike was traveling straight on Pioneer North Road when the Nissan NV200 made a right turn without signaling, causing the collision. The delivery driver was thrown from his bike and sustained minor injuries, while the NV200 suffered significant damage to its front end. Online Chat Amongst the hundreds of comments, the majority of them were pinpointing that this road is extremely dangerous. Hello @LTA? So please have more patience for people who are delivering your food, they’re delivering more than just your pizza - it comes with a side of risk. Nissan NV200 driver and the rider must have forgotten they're not playing Mario Kart… Takeaway The incident highlights the importance of road safety, especially at discretionary right turns where accidents are usually most seen at such junctions. Delivery riders, who are often required to navigate busy roads and make multiple stops in a short amount of time, make them the ones that are most at risk of such accidents. Above all, all drivers should practice cautiousness on the road and be extra vigilant - treat all junctions as accident black-spot zones and ride expecting the unexpected. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 22. TL;DR - GetGo driver thinks he’s in Tokyo Drift and crashes into 3 cars. Learns there are consequences to his actions. Prayers for the original poster of this video for keeping his cool. I know I wouldn’t if I was in his position. Read on to see why. What happened? On 18th April in a Punggol multi-storey car park, a 23 year old GetGo driver was speeding at 50km/h and hit 3 cars that were parked together. We can see that a Kia Cerato, Mitsubishi Outlander and a van that looks like a Toyota Hiace were the victims, with the first two taking the brunt of the impact. The original poster of this incident was the owner of one of the cars. The Facebook post stated that the owner was happily spring cleaning his house with Hari Raya songs at full blast when he suddenly heard a loud bang and car alarms. He learnt that the GetGo driver was daydreaming as he was speeding, and made him call his father down as he seemed scared and was a “23 year old kid”. The original poster ended with a quote saying "No one got hurt. Heartbreak only. I held back my tears, the car is my baby." Bless this owner, I hope he can get his car fixed. We have no infomation on the identity of the GetGo driver, if he was intoxicated while driving, or if the original poster would be compensated for his repairs. Online chatter People brought to attention that the driver was 23 and an adult, not a kid and should be able to understand consequences of speeding in a carpark. Others noted how common it is to find such drivers behind the wheel of private hire vehicles. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 23. TL;DR - Fists fly as e-biker and driver clash in heated argument over road safety Near-miss turns into not-so-fun fisticuffs: Road rage brawl ensues! Watch this 49 second clip of an e-biker and a driver come to blows in a shocking altercation. What Happened? An e-bike got into a heated altercation with the driver of a Nissan Sylphy, resulting in a (one-sided) physical squabble. Fortunately, a camcar driver who was just behind the camcar noticed the commotion and quickly intervened, stepping in and diffusing the situation. The camcar driver was able to calm the e-biker down and prevent the situation from escalating any further. It is alleged that the incident occurred when the Nissan Sylphy attempted to overtake the e-biker on a narrow road, coming dangerously close to the e-biker in the process. The e-biker, feeling threatened and upset, shouted at the driver to be more careful. Online Chat Some netizens were saying how it could’ve been the Sylphy's fault since he ‘didn’t dare to leave his car’ while some are banking on the e-biker’s fault, since he was the one (and only one) who was throwing punches in the air the whole time. Who do you think is at fault? Comment down below! Takeaway The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining calm and composure on Singapore's roads, especially in situations where tensions may be running high. It is crucial for all road users to show respect and consideration for one another, regardless of whether they are driving a car, riding a bike, or walking. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 24. How easy is it to get a motorcycle license? Whoever’s in charge might want to up the difficulty if this rider was able to pass. What happened? On 17 April yesterday, a motorcyclist and their passenger hit a Nissan NV350 while changing lanes on the Pan-Island Expressway. Yeah, ‘big whoop’, I hear you say, but what gets me is how avoidable this was. Another biker was able to continue in that same lane with no issues. You could argue it’s that other biker’s fault, since they passed them right before they were about to change lanes. But they were still facing the road and so could see that this biker was going way faster than them. There was also enough distance to see that there was plenty of time to slow down. However, if you look at the Nissan, notice how it accelerated before slowing down as well. Yet even once it slowed down, there’s a solid two seconds before our main biker hit the Nissan with no signs of braking. Regardless of external factors, bro does not know what braking is. As a result, both rider and pillion took a rough fall. Both of them were not wearing riding gear and rolled a couple times. Yikes. Online chatter For some reason, Facebook users seem to have a knack with involving women despite how they may have zero influence on the situation. As seen with the female pillion rider. No comment on that… Others criticised the rider for not paying attention, which put not only his life at risk but also his passenger’s. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 25. TL;DR - Garbage truck loses control and crashes into traffic light while almost taking out a pedestrian This is exactly why you should never use your phone while crossing the road! Watch this 60-second clip to see how vigilant the pedestrian was (phew, thankfully) What happened? On April 16, a Sembcorp garbage truck lost control and caused an accident along Ganges Ave. One pedestrian narrowly avoided the collision. SGRV’s Facebook page received dashcam video of the incident, which showed a white garbage truck veering suddenly at a traffic light. The truck slammed into both the traffic light and the divider. A woman crossing the intersection managed to see the approaching truck and quickly sprinted back to the side of the road for safety. Online Chat Can’t imagine if she was distracted by her phone and whatnot… Gosh. Many netizens were commending the pedestrian, not just for her fast reflexes but also how vigilant she was. While the rest were bashing the truck driver. Of course. Is this Terminator in action? Perhaps Sembcorp should terminate him lah… Takeaway Always ensure that vehicles are stopped at the stop line and look out for traffic before crossing the road. You'll never know what goes on behind the wheels. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community.
