  1. Hi, I have less than 6 months to go (mid-Nov) before I need to scrap my car. Given the unstable market, what would be the best course of action? e.g. scrap car immediately and/or encash PARF/COE rebate? Wait for couple more months to enter second hand market? Thanks!
  2. Hi all, need some advices from you all out there. I'm driving a 2007 Nissan Latio Premium. Recently I felt my car lost power when accelerate. When picking up that time, the car like no power. But when it reaches 60km/h, it's back to normal. At first I thought is the throttle dirty and had went to my workshop to get it washed. And i had also done my servicing. But after driving for 4 days, the problem back again. Anyone had face this problem before? Would appreciate if someone could help me on this. Thanks.
  3. My windscreen was hit by a stone today and developed a "L-shaped" like crack of about 30cm. First such encounter in 13+ years of driving. I intend to claim insurance as free windscreen replacement is covered. Any bros with such experience can advise if there is any other/better alternatives? Like some kind of glass repair, etc. Thanks in anticipation
  4. Hihi, my 2006 Honda Civic 1.8 VTi-S is having a gearbox issue. The problem is as described below.. When travelling in 5th gear above 70kmh, if i do not step on the accelerator and let the speed slowly go below 65kmh, it automatically downshifts and i can feel like it's hunting for the 4th gear before it jerks and get in gear. This does not happen everytime. However, when i use paddle shifters to downshift or brake from above 70kmh, it does not seem to jerk. Anyone knows what is going on?Transmission oil is new. Thanks!
  5. Yo, Today I got a problem with the ride Ride is honda. 7 yrs old. CVTF gear. 100km mileage. Last servicing was in Dec 2013. New Iridium sparks changed. Usual EO used. New air filter changed. First, I feel that car doesn't accelerate as much as normal. Hit 80km/h or so, the car doesn't feel the power to go higher speed. Something holding back the car. Then when I had to stop the car and wait for someone, I put gear to N and pull hand brake. After 1 min, the engine died! It just died..... I can restart the engine without problem. The idling is not stable, and I feel the engine is weak. I suspect its ignition coil? I thought it might be the fuel filter, but I change it 30k km before. And I don't pump MY petrol. Any advice?
  6. Hey Guys, Got into a minor accident this evening, where my mitsubishi lancer EX hit the back of a 04' Toyota Corolla Altis. Just need some help to get an estimate for the repairs on the Altis.. Was at the junction to turn left, stopped behid the altis cos there's still on coming traffic, but thought he would drive off cos saw him moving off.. But too bad I was checking for on coming traffice never notice he stop so bang into him. Though i never accelerate, but damage seems quite bad for the altis. Basically the right part of the bumper slightly dislodged and some scratches on the back bumper. But this "helpful" driver came along pointed that the boot cannot close & "recommend" to bring to his workshop to repair. Anyway, the driver said he prefered to send back to BM. So arrange to meet him with at BM tmr morning to check the damages. Just want to get a heads up, as understand that will kana chop. Depending on cost will contempt on private settlement vs claiming insurance. On a separate note, was looking at past forums boot not closing properly for the altis quite common, so not sure how the cost of damages would be like.. Thank hyou in advance should you revert. :)
  7. Lately I'm experiencing some symptoms with my Honda Edix 1.7, 1) sometime Batt Light come on blinking for 5-10seconds then went off while I driving. 2) When starting the engine, it vibrates quite bad but goes off after I rev up abit or it'll goes off after awhile. Any clues? Really appreciate for your advices in advance.
  8. basically i will summarise as easily as possible. we agree to deal a vehicle at price $88k and i am the seller. the deposit was $1k by check and we sign an agreement with this specific clause: the deal will only go through if they secured insurance for the vehicle. otherwise, the deposit must be returned. now they want to back off from the deal and they ask me not to bank in the check. the reason they gave was that the insurance they were quoted were too high. i have not told them that i intend to keep the deposit. they will obviously state that they have the right to get back the deposit because they did not secure the insurance. but i feel that that term did not state clearly. it was quite obvious that when someone say cannot secure insurance, it it because nobody want to insure. now the problem is many people want to insure, just that they feel too expensive. i rejected an offer at $87k because they gave me this deposit. now i ask the second offer guy, he say he bought another car already. i feel very lugi le. what do you guys think? should i bank in the check tmr? of course, my guess is that they should have already canceled the check. but do i have a case if i go CASE?
  9. Jialat, I'm converting my opc to normal car but none of the workshops or merchant I called seem to have done it before. Can anyone advise where I may find a workshop that can break the seal? Thanks in advance.
  10. You might have tried cleaning your car interior with disinfectant, or clip air fresheners to your air-con vent, and realise there is still a slight odour. This is because, the problem most likely lies inside the air-con vent. It's not a pleasant experience especially when you turn the air-con blower up on a hot sunny day, and realise theres an odour. This is due to bacteria growing inside the ventilation system, or bacteria that died due to unfavourable conditions. Moisture in the system, coupled with our warm weather, provides the two basic necessities needed for bacteria to thrive. Sometimes, the conditions inside the ventilation system change due to a variety of factors, making the environment no longer suitable for the bacteria's survival and it dies. When this happens the stink given off is the same as when food rots. It's almost impossible to try and prevent bacteria from living inside the aircon filter. Turning the heater up isn't going to 'burn' away the smell, neither is turning the air flow to FRESH AIR. A moderately effective method is to spray deodorant or disinfectant 'into' the vents. Another solution that might be more effective, is using mustard powder and water (vinegar mixed with water can also be used) and spraying it into the vents. After spraying, run the blower heater at maximum heat for 4 - 5 minutes (Open all the doors while you do this). After which, there might be a strong vinegar smell (If you used vinegar), spray the inside of the vents with air freshener or even a little bit of water, and let the blower run on full power for a few minutes, just to dry it up. Be sure to repeat these steps if your car has rear cabin vents. There's actually not much you can do to prevent it from coming back. But one thing you can do is to check and make sure the drainage opening for the AC unit is not blocked, If it is, moisture will accumulate and give the bacteria a reason to live. You should see a fair amount of water dripping out from under your car right after parking. If the smell you're getting isn't like bad breath or rotting food and doesn't seem to be coming from the vents, it could be a leak from your exhaust system, causing exhaust fumes to get into the cabin. Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which you really don't want entering your cabin. If you don't already know, Carbon monoxide is colourless, odourless and initially, non-irritating. Inhalation of the gas can cause "light-headedness" and headaches, and on rare cases, can be fatal. 'Oily smells' however, suggests something might be wrong in the engine bay while excessive braking. Very poor use of the clutch with a manual transmission will also give off smells. So, make sure you get your vehicle inspected and serviced regularly and if you aren't confident with dealing with the odour from your vents yourself, get your trusted mechanic to do the job for you. And most of all, keep you car cabin clean.
  11. Just my luck to be a victim of a hit-and-run incident today. Luckily my in-car dvr captured the errant driver but not able to make out the license plate clearly. Damage is mainly the right side mirror but I have yet to check the car body for scratches. Thoughts 1) will I be in the wrong if I were to settle this privately with the errant driver? 2) will I be penalised by the insurance company for failing to report the incident? 3) do I need to make a police report (don't think the driver can counter claim me as he is clearly in the wrong as shown in video) Appreciate advice from forum bros and comments please. Will make a decision in a few days as to what course of action to take.
  12. Good morning all, 2 of my friends and I are contemplating taking on a road trip to Malacca but there are several areas of concern which we feel should be addressed first. 1. Limited driving experience: As we are only 21 this year and the most experienced of us has merely 1 year plus of experience on local roads, it would be more difficult to find a willing car rental. On top of that I believe the insurance excess could be much higher for inexperienced drivers like us? We might be able to use one of our family's car but are now looking at rental as an alternative. 2. Choice of car rental: Would it be easier for us to engage a reliable rental company in JB instead of Singapore? The costs would be cheaper too since there is no need to pay for any overseas driving surcharge. Any recommendations to give? 3. Could there be any potential problems that newbie drivers like us will encounter when driving up north? With regard to places to visit, I believe that it is not much of an issue as there are countless websites to refer to... I would greatly appreciate any constructive feedback as it will contribute to our decision making - go or no go. Thank you all in advance!
  13. The LTA recently revealed a Land Transport Masterplan which maps out enhancements to the public transport as well as road management. We look at the some intrinsic details and finds out what they can mean to us. Naturally, one of the key highlights of the plan lies in the public transport sector. Both the rail and road systems will receive substantial boost, such as extending bus services to more areas, giving more priorities to buses, as well as an ambitious plan to double the island's rail network by 2030. For a moment, the plan does seem to have hit the nail on head. But we reckon there is more than meets the eye. Our rail system has been plagued by frequent service faults and disruptions. Even with the current network, train operators have been struggling to keep maintenance up to the mark, and statistics have proven this point. There were four cases of service disruptions in October alone, and no less than nine cases in previous three months. On that point, imagine the amount of workload on the maintenance with the doubled network, which will likely lead to more disruptions if all things remain constant. Then, there is the mindset of the local commuters. A study has shown that locals still prefer private mode of transport. And if nothing is done to adjust this preference, the enhanced public transport network will just be a 'white elephant'. Next, the plan aims to address road congestion by putting ERP gantries on major roads (Bukit Timah Road, Holland Road etc.). At this instance, one question springs to our minds: If the current 71 gantries placed on expressways and arterial roads have limited effect on congestion, how will adding gantries to major roads help? And hence, the big question remains: Do you think the master plan will succeed?
  14. My car hit a lorry today. But service centre not open due to pub hol. Wanna ask if there is any workshop I can go to? How much would the damage cost? I'm not sure whether to report and claim insurance. Here's the picture of the damage.
  15. Today, went to Clementi for lunch and got hit and run in the open carpark. Right fender damaged, and etc. No video but luckily there was a witness who informed me of the car # and is willing to be my witness if required. I have made a police report and was told that the report will route to TP, and they will do some investigation (not sure what kind though). I am curious what should my next course of actions? 1. Go to my insurer's authorized workshop and get them to repair and directly claim against them? 2. If I choose #1, will the workshop ask me to pay first and then reimburse me when the claim is successful? 3. If the claim is unsuccessful, will my NCD be affected? Anybody with experience on this and can advise? The van with the P plate. Screencap from the witness. He emailed me.
  16. Hi Forumers, My wife and I have applied for a BTO flat somewhere in 2010, during that time, the supply was low and the demand was huge. So they came out a scheme called MCPS (married child parents scheme). Before this scheme, I have tried about 10x to get a successful Q no. I decided to bring my parents along as I'm the sole contributor to their expenses. They are staying in a rental flat. During the application I have voiced out that the rental flat will be returned to hdb when the BTO flat is ready to move in and they agree. 3yrs pass and finally I'm going to get my own flat. When I told them that I'm about to collect the key, my step-father said that he is too attached to the current house and wishes to stay there. In respect to his decision, I called hdb and ask if I can remove my parents from the occupier name but was told that if i did not include their name in the first place, I would not get a Q number. So I decided to meet the MP and at the same time try my very best to persuade my step-father to move in with us. The appeal through MP did not go through and my step-father is still firm in his decision of not moving. Please note that me and my parents are in good terms and I have been paying for their expenses and accomodation. I'm now staying with my in-laws 4-room flat for 6yrs and we are cramp in 1 room as I have a child and expecting another end of this year. So the flat really meant alot to us. I have ask HDB to reconsider my appeal and pray for the best. MP has proposed that we applied for a new BTO, but that means we have to wait for 2-3yrs more. Open market is not a good choice as we do not have the luxury of spending large amount of cash. What are my options? I'm thinking of writing to khaw boon wan or even the press but since its my parents that caused this problem, I holding back.
  17. Dear Sifu, need your advices on BMW 320i and 520i in 2008 model. Q1. How to identify a PI and AD model for 320 and 520? Q2. There are models with 320i, 320i XL and 520i and 520i XL. What does XL stand for? Q3. Will 520i underpower due to same engine as 320i as 156bhp for its weight? I saw the pricing difference no much for 320 and 520 but 5 series have larger sapce and features like i-Drive and eagle Xenon light. I read the review 320i gives 9.8 sec (1475KG); FC 12.3km/l and 520i give 10.6 sec (1490KG); FC 8km/l. Q4. It seems that there is a different engine to provide 170HP for 520i. This is a PI model right? Q5. Any recall and potential problems on these 2 models from 2008? Thx for inputs.
  18. Are you a driver who does not use his vehicle too often? We have good news for you. DirectAsia.com an award winning online insurer has launched a new car insurance aimed at leisure drivers. 19. Hi all, i was involved in a car accident in 2009 as a passenger. Our car was stationary at the red traffic light. Lorry failed to stop in time behind us and hit us. The car (Axio) was quite badly damaged, the back of the car caved in and glass shattered. Photos were taken and car was sent to the work shop. I saw the doctor subsequently and filed for a police report. My colleague (the driver) saw our lawyer and filed for traffic accident claim with the lorry driver's insurance company, China Taiping. We were also sent to hospitals to do check ups to substantiate our injury claim. China Taiping finally responded after 3 years in June 2012 and claims that the culprit did not report the accident. My lawyer now advised me to go for another round of check ups to update my injuries so that we can attached it to our claim and let China Taiping decide. My question is, how much longer is this going to drag and what are my chances of getting full claim?
  20. i saw one on sgcarmart here looks tempting cause of the low end torque and fuel efficiency. anyone knows how is the reliability, maintenance costs etc? is there parf rebate on diesel cars, is it similar to normal car?
  21. One of the greatest challenges with integrating car audio products into your car in the quest to replicate a true concert experience is the placement of speakers, interior trim materials, cabin acoustics and road noise. While installation and sound deadening will eliminate some of these issues, it is necessary to use dedicated processors and digital interfaces to correct the fundamental issues. For those who want the most out of their car audio system, a digital signal processor can help. After some slight adjustments, your system will sound like it has been professionally tuned and optimised. There have been rumours that if your speakers are good enough, you won't require a processor. Unfortunately, this isn't the case because it's the environment that creates the need for a processor, not the speakers. Digital signal processors (DSP) Most Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) factory fitted stereo systems are underwhelming in terms of quality sound. Well, they may have convenience features like iPod inputs, Bluetooth hands-free and steering wheel controls but they lack the ability to fine tune audio performance as well as add extra amplification. Most OEM stereos are also designed to compensate for low quality speakers, which is accomplished by artificially manipulating the frequency profile. When inferior original equipment speakers are replaced with high quality aftermarket units, this manipulation is often very easy to pick up on and if an amp is also installed, the problem will only get worse. That's where a DSP can come to the rescue. There are a number of uses for DSPs, but one of the most remarkable is to fix problems that have been noticed with OEM stereos. The DSP sits between the head unit and the amp, and it can literally undo the factory unit's problems. Some DSPs even have custom profiles that can be downloaded from the Internet, which will automatically fix the pre-processing issue and improve the overall listening experience by finetuning the head unit to suit the interior of the specific vehicle. Audison has released a number of digital components that make it not only easy to get great sound from factory sound systems, but also allow for a complete digital connection from processors to amplifiers. One of them is the Audison bit Ten - a DSP that will be equally at home in a modest system or a full-blown competition car audio system. Audison bit Ten The bit Ten is a multi-function DSP featuring analogue input, capable of transforming an OEM or aftermarket system into a high performance system. This processor comes with a 32 bit, 147 MHz clock speed Cirrus Logic DSP. It is a special DSP, ensuring high integration, where the main processing functions are implemented in optimised and pre-configured blocks, providing the ability to reduce the processing resources, thus ensuring top level performance. The architecture is completed with 24 bit analogue to digital (A/D) and digital to analogue (D/A) converters, as well as a powerful microcontroller to manage, supervise and connect the system to a computer. During the installation phase, where conversion of the analogue signal into a digital one is done, the bit Ten automatically reconstructs a digital full-bandwidth stereo signal and de-equalises the frequency response and, if necessary, reconstructs the central and subwoofer channels. Users can also configure the output mode of each channel relative to the installed system. bit Ten and its advantages Audison truly sets the level when it comes to getting great sound quality in your vehicle, and with the bit Ten, they have designed a product that allows anybody to upgrade their system, no matter what vehicle they have. All of the operations on the bit Ten, from setting the parameters of each input single channel, setting the delays according to the listening position to adjusting crossovers and equalisers for each of the five output channels can be managed with or without a computer. The other great advantage of the bit Ten is that you can retain your factory fitted head unit, which is often heavily integrated with other climate and vehicle controls. The bit Ten uses advanced processors to digitally correct factory speaker placement and frequency response, providing a great one-stop solution with minimal component replacement. The bit Ten boasts a modern and flexible platform, making it possible to stay current with technological evolution. The firmware, based upon Flash memory, can be updated at any time without having to disassemble the device from the system. And to make things even better, the bit Ten has a built in AUX input, allowing you to plug in an MP3 player, or any other audio device, so if your car doesn't have an input, the bit Ten will take care of it. The bit Ten also allows for a hands-free kit and offers an audio mute as standard as well. Having amazing sound really has just got easy, thanks to this little box of tricks. Why Audison? With 34 years of experience in the audio industry, Audison is a renowned name in the audio industry. Since 1979, the founders of Audison have fuelled a long lasting passion for high quality sound, continuing to design and build tools which can produce the perfect sound. In addition, they design and select the materials, experiment and listen to the results time and time again, allowing only their emotions to let them recognise when the product was complete. Since its inception, Audison presents its products to the market only after they have fully met the requirements of their creators to ensure that the highest quality is delivered. More impressively, Audison has many awards and accolades to its name such as the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) Award, the Innovations Design and Engineering Award and many others. In Singapore, In-phone Marketing (Asia) Pte Ltd is the official distributor for the Audison bit Ten. They are located at 130 Joo Seng Road #05-05 Olivine Building Singapore 368357. 22. Good idea to get the Osim uAngel? I was thinking of uDivine App but it takes up too much space and is rather pricey. So the uAngel seems appealing in these aspects. Any feedback? It is now selling for $1948 and the sales person told me it's fixed price. Any place selling cheaper or really controlled price? Any advice here or via pm would be appreciated. Thank you.
