  1. When i first heard of the budget withrunning commentary by Radx I was like very happy that our government has started to realised that their people are important then someone wrote this the numbers looks ok but can someone confirm the information provided poor us i better not get old Feed Me To The Fish MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2012 Is Our CPF Broke? I wrote recently, "No Hair but Got Heart" [Link]. Without going through the details of the schemes, I complimented Tharman Shamugaratnam for his concern and kindness for the poor, the disabled and the old after his 2012 Budget speech. Now I'm having second thoughts. I may have been wrong. Is his heart where it is supposed to be? While going through the details provided by Leong Sze Hian of TOC, I realised that I may have been suckered and conned . . . hook, line and sinker! From Leong Sze Hian in italic: A Silver Housing Bonus of $20,000 will be introduced whereby, the "Government will provide $15,000 in cash and $5,000 to the CPF accounts. To benefit from the scheme, the homeowners will use the proceeds from the sale of their previous home to top up their CPF savings up to the prevailing Minimum Sum. All amounts above the Minimum Sum can be withdrawn in cash", and the Government expects many to be able to do so. The Finance Minister in unveiling Budget 2012, goes on to say, "Suppose we have a retiree couple who each had $10,000 set aside in their Retirement Accounts when they turned 55. They decide to move from a 3-room flat to a Studio Apartment. That gives them net proceeds of $250,000. The proceeds will go into their CPF LIFE. But because they will now exceed the Minimum Sum, they take out $8,000 in cash. Together with the $15,000 cash from the Silver Housing Bonus, they get $23,000 in total. Most important, they also get a much bigger income for life from CPF LIFE
  2. DBS Bank said that it had $23,000 stolen from 17 customers' bank accounts last Sunday as fraudsters used Singapore ATM machines to make unauthorised withdrawals. Security measures the bank put in place helped alert customers to the incident, and no further unauthorised withdrawals have since been made. This incident is a continuation of the ATM skimming scheme that saw $1 million stolen from the bank accounts of 700 DBS and POSB customers last month. 'On Feb 19, Sunday night, DBS received calls from a handful of customers who were alerted to unauthorised ATM withdrawals in Singapore, after receiving real-time SMS alerts from the bank,' a spokesman for the bank said in response to queries from The Straits Times. 4. Sorry to go again arh.. Haha. Ok, topic proper - Road hogging. This is an offical reply from Traffic Police: [The road hogging will applies for example a three lanes expressway and a vehicle is travelling below the speed limit on the extreme right lane of 3 lanes when the other 2 lanes are clear of traffic and vehicles have to overtake using the centre lane. Hope this clarifies.] For those who think that they can farking keep on right lane on speed limit even on clear road, think again.

  11. Title : Track fault causes delay on East-West Line By : Date : 08 January 2012 1304 hrs (SST) URL : http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1175448/1/.html SINGAPORE: Train services on the Circle Line between Marymount and Botanic Gardens were disrupted Sunday afternoon due to a signalling fault. SMRT said on its Twitter site at about 3.00 pm that service was back to normal. A commuter told Channel NewsAsia that he was at Serangoon station when he heard an announcement that there would be "no train service" between Marymount and Farrer Road stations. He said he understands that commuters had to get off at Marymount station because the train could not proceed to Farrer Road station. He said commuters were advised to find alternative transport. Separately, train services on the East-West Line between Boon Lay and Joo Koon were also delayed Sunday afternoon due to a track fault. At about 2.00 pm, SMRT said the track fault had cleared and services on all lines were operating normally but urged commuters to allow extra time for travel due to wet tracks. SMRT told Channel NewsAsia that the problem started at about 12.30 pm on Sunday. At about 1.00 pm, SMRT said east-bound and west-bound services between Boon Lay and Joo Koon were slightly delayed due to a track fault. Some commuters were asked to alight from one of the trains at Lakeside station as a precaution. Commuters had to wait an extra two minutes for the trains. Callers to the Channel NewsAsia reported similar delays. One commuter, Stanley, said he was at City Hall station when he heard the announcement at about 12.40 pm of a delay in service. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1175448/1/.html

  15. My car has been emitting constant 'chiak chiak' sound from the engine bay since about 3 weeks ago, especially in morning cold start. Previously was very quiet that was why I chose this car. Very irritating and it got louder when aircon is turned on, and when I accelerate the car. You can hear a distinctive booming sound coming from the aircon filter area under dashboard. Last few days cannot tahan so sent it for checking. The SE subsequently informed the aircon compressor assembly was replaced. The best part was that it was FOC since it is still under 3 years! I was very happy as the warranty would have expired in 3 months time and I would have to cough up the $1k bill. I am now able to enjoy peace and quiet in my car once again. This incident reinforced my positive vibes about Kia, will definitely consider the brand again when it comes to changing car later on. The car is not perfect and the few times when there are with minor issues, the SEs in different centers have been accommodating though not every time obliged of course. Definitely not much different or losing to the Nissan service quality. BTW, my car is latest Kia Carens (non-Elite version).

  18. SMRT's North-South line down again AsiaOne Saturday, Dec 17, 2011 Train services on the North-South line between Marina Bay and Ang Mo Kio were disrupted this morning since 7am, according to SMRT. This comes just two days after a major glitch affected 127,000 passengers during rush hour on Thursday evening. Passengers are advised to seek alternative transport or take bus bridging services provided between Toa Payoh and Raffles Place, and a shuttle between Marina Bay and Raffles Place. An SMRT statement said as of 9am, northbound train service between Raffles Place to Jurong East is available. http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...217-316710.html One day after apology, breakdown again. 21. http://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/Bleak-out...156993.html?x=0 Singapore's property sector may soon face difficult times, as Standard Chartered Bank's latest report has stated a bearish outlook for the market. According to the bank's analysts, prices and rents of residential properties in Singapore will drop by 30 percent over the next three years. This will be quite a setback, given that prices rose 18 percent in 2010, as Singapore recovered strongly from the global financial crisis. Prices soared a further six percent in the first three quarters of this year. In addition, the bank expects some problems ahead, such as the unprecedented supply of completed homes coming on-stream and slower population growth due to stricter immigration policies. "We expect lower population growth and high completions to induce a 20-30 percent decline in home prices in 2012-2014," said the StanChart analysts. "When residential prices went into a four-year downcycle from 2001, residential developers traded at 0.6-0.8 times price-to-book ratio." The gloomy outlook came after property developers reported subdued results for the third quarter this year, attributed to lower contributions from their development units. 23. Pity those staying there...most oldies. And the compensation....er.....  The way Denise Phua talks....no comment Don't cash out flats, Rochor residents urged By Joanne Chan | Posted: 16 November 2011 2106 hrs Photos1 of 1 HDB flats in Rochor Centre VideoDon't cash out flats, Rochor residents urgedhttp://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...165837/1/.html#http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...165837/1/.html#7 SINGAPORE: Residents of the Rochor Centre HDB flats have been cautioned against cashing out in the resale market. Member of Parliament for Moulmein-Kallang GRC Denise Phua has urged them to consider taking up the relocation package to Kallang, following Tuesday's announcement on the North-South Expressway (NSE). Four blocks at Rochor Centre will be making way for the NSE. Affected residents have been assured of a new flat in Kallang, and in many cases, may even enjoy some net proceeds. Following the initial shock of the news, residents have been trying to make sense of the compensation offered. Some have raised concerns the money offered is insufficient. RC chairman Eunice Phng said: "Three-room to three-room, they're getting about S$100,000, they think it's still not enough. "Because they are actually making way for the highway, and this is a very prime area, you can't get a similar area like this. "So they think the loss is there. But in terms of payment, if the authorities can look into more benefits, that will really make them happier." Home owners have the option of selling the flat in the open market, where they are likely to fetch a premium above market value. The relocation benefits can also be transferred to the new owner, who may have set their sights on the Kallang development. But the area's MP has urged residents against selling their flats. Ms Phua said: "If any of the residents were to sell too quickly without thinking through, and apply for another estate, they will not get the priority and they may find themselves stuck. "The other thing is, if they choose to cash out and use the money and find that later on they have no where else to go, they will not be -- most of them -- ... entitled to a rental flat because of the surplus they would have profited." Ms Phua also pointed out residents stand to gain from moving to Kallang. She noted that not only will they be getting a brand new flat with a fresh 99-year lease, elderly residents who currently endure the inconvenience of a lack of lifts in Rochor, will be able to benefit from having lifts on every floor in Kallang. HDB has frozen the sale of these flats for a month to ensure residents fully understand the relocation package before making a decision. It will also be holding a week-long exhibition, starting this Friday, to explain the compensation details and also provide more information on the replacement flats in Kallang. - CNA/wk We recommend
