  3. ...rushes to take your parking lot, would you give? Well, I didn't. Was at Vivo, and walking to my car, saw a car legitimately parked at the side waiting for my lot. Then as I was abt to enter my car, tis stream went against the traffic direction and parked himself so that he can get the lot. I locked my car, and walked up to the first car and asked him if he wanted my lot, he said yes. I then waited until the 'illegal entry' car drove off, and not without showing me the monkey face I then waited for the first car to come closer in case another cb does the same stunt and then i drove off. Sigh....driving really stressful in sg.

  5. PE: Tony Tan hits out at "baseless allegations" made against his sons By S Ramesh | Posted: 25 August 2011 1147 hrs SINGAPORE: On the final day of the Presidential election campaign, candidate Dr Tony Tan has hit out at allegations made against his family, in particular, his sons. He said he is saddened by the personal attacks which have no basis at all. Speaking to the media on Thursday after touring Chong Pang Market in Sembawang with his wife, an area he's familiar with since his days as MP, he said the personal attacks are designed to distract Singaporeans from the key issues in the Presidential election campaign. He said: "I am outraged by the false allegations that have made this (a) smear campaign - the lies, (the) baseless allegations and the attacks on my family. "These personal attacks and allegations are baseless, they are all lies. They are designed to distract Singaporeans from the true debate and the role of the President and the future of Singapore. "I am saddened by such personal attacks because it sets a wrong tone in Singapore. "Our politics should be based on debate on issues and real problems and not on personal attacks on myself or family members which have no basis at all. "I hope we should stamp this out because if this goes on, it will lower the tone of politics in Singapore and doesn't do anybody any good." Dr Tan's sons responded on Thursday with a statement to refute allegations about their National Service (NS) record. The trio - Peter, Patrick and Philip Tan - said they have fulfilled all obligations in accordance with the rules, regulations and deployment policies of Mindef (Ministry of Defence), and that allegations concerning their NS circulated on the Internet and reinforced by Dr Tony Tan's opponents, are lies. Last month, Patrick Tan had posted a statement on his father's Facebook page to refute allegations that he had received preferential treatment during his National Service in 2000, after he returned from overseas studies. Dr Tony Tan was the Defence Minister from 1995 to 2003. Wrapping up his campaign, Dr Tan added that on the whole, it had been a dignified one, although there had been some strong statements made once in a while. He said this was to be expected in the heat of the hustings. And he hopes that the overall tone of this year's Presidential campaign would set the tone for future ones.

  9. please don't speed in the residential areas. ---- Aug 3, 2011 Man appeals against driving ban after fatal accident Phang Say Lang, 54, pleaded guilty in May to causing the death of Chen Chunyu (above) as a result of failing to keep a proper lookout while driving along Boon Lay Way on Sept 18, 2009. -- PHOTO: NONSPH A BUSINESSMAN who has paid an $8,000 fine for negligently causing the death of a nine-year-old pedestrian in a 2009 road traffic accident is appealing against his five-year driving ban. The appeal will be heard in the High Court on a date to be fixed. Phang Say Lang, 54, pleaded guilty in May to causing the death of Chen Chunyu as a result of failing to keep a proper lookout while driving along Boon Lay Way on Sept 18, 2009. The Primary 2 pupil was on his way to school in pouring rain when he was hit by Phang's Lexus. The boy was seriously injured and died in hospital six days later. The court heard he had stepped onto the road in front of a bus stop, heading for his school on the other side. The point at which he crossed was more than 130m from the nearest pedestrian crossing, at the junction of Boon Lay Way and Corporation Road. In his grounds of judgment last month, District Judge Roy Neighbour said there was no doubt that the mishap was the result of Phang's failure to keep a proper lookout for the boy.
  10. 'No fare hike till service improves': Tan Kin Lian By Zakir Hussain PRESIDENTIAL hopeful Tan Kin Lian wants the Public Transport Council (PTC) to delay fare hikes until transport operators improve the quality of service. He echoed public complaints about operators SBS Transit and SMRT. Members of the public have expressed unhappiness that the two operators are seeking to raise fares with no improvement in service. They have complained about crowded buses and trains, and unreliable service. Mr Tan wrote on his blog: 'I echo the views of the public and wish to ask the Public Transport Council to delay any fare increase until the public transport operators can provide more capacity and improve the standard of service, namely to provide a more comfortable ride with shorter waiting and travelling time.' He also urged Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew and the Land Transport Authority 'to take urgent steps to revamp' the public transport system. Mr Tan, a former chief executive of insurance cooperative NTUC Income, has in recent years suggested ways to improve public transport, including more regulation." Previously Lui says transport service need improvement. Now A tan goes one step further by saying "NO" to fare increase until situation improves. Somehow I feel it might not make much of a difference & fare increase will pass through (remember fare review was postponed to after GE???). And the thing about fare increase is not to IMPROVE their service but to maintain its present standard. So without increase, the service would decrease!!!
  11. Hi folks, My friend went down to her authorized workshop for repairs and was given 2 choices. She is claiming from the 3rd party. Pictures n evidences was submitted during the report. 1. To claim to her insurance first so that her car can be expedite in a week. The authorized workshop will then claim against the 3rd party. Note that the workshop will not carry out any repairs if there are no clearance or approval from any of the Insurance involved. There will be loss of car period ie they will provide a car for her for at least 10 days for free. 2. To wait for the 3rd party insurance for clearance n approval. This choice will lengthen the duration for the car restoration. No car loss of use given. The advisor advised her to choose the first choice for the best option. But in addition to that she have to fork out an excess fee of $640 first in which she can reclaim from the 3rd party insurance that will take up until 6 mths. She was told that her insurance and NCD will not be affected once everything is cleared from the 3rd party. The advisor had assured her of high chances of winning the case as such choosing the first option is the best move to make.. She had signed for the first option as advised. Is this the norm for insurance claim against 3rd party or otherwise? Would like to seek views from forumers here.. Thanks!

  13. Recently been receiving threats on the public road I park my car. Thinking about installing a CCTV just in case. Any recommendations for any brand/camera/shop to do it? Would prefer that it does not require a DVR, discreet, SD card, clear at night without headlights (just street lights), wide angle. Some questions regarding in-car CCTVs in general, are they easily transferrable to another vehicle and what power sources are normally used? Would a cig socket cause an empty car batt if it recorded for 48hrs?
  14. ST Forum Jun 9, 2011 Many driving against traffic flow between carparks I HAVE on numerous occasions witnessed motorists driving against the traffic flow to get into either the Wheelock Place carpark, or the Far East Shopping Centre carpark when they fail to find a spot at the open-air carpark directly opposite Borders bookstore at Wheelock Place. Last week, during the heavy downpour during lunch time, a woman driver drove against the traffic to cut the waiting queue to the Far East Shopping Centre carpark. Pedestrians crossing the narrow road, and walking across the Wheelock Place carpark (rightly) would not expect cars coming from a direction that is clearly against the traffic flow. Paul Heng

Apparently black shirts also appeared at Starbucks at Woodlands, Yishun and Serangoon, but in small numbers

  20. Calling all Fatimahs, got good business at Serangoon estate for u all. Work harder at this area pls. ST Forum Mar 8, 2011 Act against those who flout season-parking rules THE shortage of parking spaces in Housing Board estates for season-parking ticket holders ('MP suggests 'preferential' HDB parking solution'; last Friday) is a problem that affects the everyday lives of residents, and the HDB should review the issue. The carpark design at my Serangoon HDB estate is horribly flawed, with limited parking spaces for flats farther away from the main carpark. Residents have to share these few parking spaces with drivers using hourly parking. In addition to building additional parking spaces, there needs to be stricter enforcement of season-parking regulations. Many inconsiderate drivers who do not hold season-parking tickets use such spaces. There are times when I have to park nine blocks away, where the only available parking spaces are. These drivers are often not penalised and this encourages them to repeat the act. Boey Oi Lin (Ms)
  21. LUXEMBOURG - Major sports events such as soccer's World Cup will be available to all television viewers in Britain and Belgium after Fifa lost a legal challenge on Thursday. The General Court, the European Union's second highest court, dismissed a similar challenge by European soccer's governing body, UEFA, against a decision by British authorities to protect broadcast of the European Championship finals. 'A member state may, in certain circumstances, prohibit the exclusive broadcast of all World Cup and Euro football matches on pay television, in order to allow the general public to follow those events on free television,' the Court said. It said such restrictions were justified by the public's right to information and the need to ensure wide access to TV broadcasts. Under an EU directive, EU countries are allowed to draw up a list of events of national interest or 'crown jewels' for broadcast on free-to-air stations, Such events include the Olympic Games, the football World Cup, the European Championships, England's FA Cup and the Wimbledon tennis championships. Fifa was contesting a 2007 Commission decision allowing Belgium and Britain to reserve broadcasting rights for the World Cup to free-to-air TV stations. Fifa and UEFA argued that the regime interferes with their property rights, especially when some countries broadcast all matches even though their national teams do not play in some of the events. The sports bodies also argue that they get less money from free-to-air TV broadcasts, which in turn would have a knock-on effect on investments and attracting world-class players and hence the quality of the games. Proponents say allowing everybody to watch sports events will increase interest in the games. 'We welcome the decision from the EU and continue to support the principle of protecting sports events for free to air coverage,' a spokesman for Britain's Culture, Media and Sport department said. -- REUTERS
