  1. Buying a car 14k(OPC) but bank only allow financing for 10k. Which is about 70% financing... Anyone know any financing company or can know where can get higher financing?
  2. I had a conversation with one of my acquaintance recently and he was complaining to me that his 2nd Indon maid was beginning to lax and was neglecting her tasks. She was caught watching Malay aired TV shows in the afternoons when he and his wife are both working. His first Filo maid gave trouble simply becos she has a mobile and he has forbade his 2nd maid to own one. My advice to him is to be strict to such ppl like maids as they are not able appreciate the kindness from their employers and simple pleasures like the privilege of watching TV can be abused. I for one, forbade my maid from even touching the TV ( except to clean their surfaces) let alone to watch shows from it....and of course.....NO MOBILE! He was shocked that I was too strict. I feel that they can watch shows if there is someone to monitor them at home with a time limit or when the entire family watches them and she has finished her work and joins them but not when she is left alone or simply feels that she can turn on the TV herself! Are my views too strict or are my views similiar with many others here with have maids too?
  3. Home > Breaking News > Singapore > Story Feb 10, 2009 Jailed for contraband tobacco By Elena Chong A CHINA national was jailed for 23 months on Tuesday for having contraband tobacco and medicinal products. Huang Kexin, 63, pleaded guilty to having 270 kg of duty unpaid tobacco and not paying Goods and Services Tax of $6,800 on the 150 packages found in a rented room in Lorong 16 Geylang on Jan 16. The unpaid duty amounted to $95,040. He also admitted to possessing for retail sale African Black Ant capsules and Power 1 Singapore tablets containing controlled substances. A district court heard that a team of Health Sciences Authority and police officers raided his room and seized a variety of medicines and tobacco. The green tobacco packages were labelled as Chinese tea. Huang told investigators that he had bought the tobacco two days earlier from an unknown China national at $14 a package and had intended to resell them at $20. The medicinal products he had in his possession could only be sold in a registered pharmacy or under the supervision of a pharmacist. Under the Customs Act, he could have been fined up to 20 times the amount of customs duty or tax evaded or $10,000, whichever is greater, and/or jailed for up to three years. Huang could have been fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to two years on each of the Medicines Act charges. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  6. Changes planned to allow 18 year olds to go into business Posted: 25 August 2008 1531 hrs SINGAPORE - Plans have been laid out to make it easier for young entrepreneurs to go into business. The Finance Ministry is proposing a delinking of the age of majority from the age of contractual capacity, reducing the age from 21 years to 18 years. The move is the result of feedback received by the Pro-Enterprise Panel that legal barriers that prevent young people from starting and conducting a business should be removed. To change will however require the amendment of a host of other laws, and Civil Law Act which the Finance and Law ministries have drafted amendments to. The two ministries are now seeking feedback on the Consultation Paper both have released with the draft Civil Law (Amendment) Bill. The consultation period ends on Friday, 19 September. If it really happens, then IMH and those counselling centres will have more patients and there will be more bankrupts....very few teens are as enterprising and risk taking like the ang mohs whereby when they fell down time after time, they will stand up again and again...asians, especially singaporeans are afraid of failure.

  10. From ST Forum MY 15-YEAR-OLD nephew has been an avid BMX stunt cyclist for more than a year. He meets his friends about three times a week at the Youth Park in Somerset Road. This is a healthy and exciting sport for youngsters like him and we applaud the efforts by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports and the National Youth Council to provide a place for extreme sports for bikers and skaters since 2004. However, there is an important issue regarding transport for these cyclists which I would like the authorities to address. My nephew has told me that in the past few months, he and his friends have been stopped many times by officers at MRT stations and told not to take their bicycles onto the train. Please note that these bikes have been dismantled and folded neatly into special BMX bags which the bikers carry on their shoulders. The bags have clear BMX logos to indicate a bicycle inside. When they explained they were only carrying bicycles to the Youth Park at Somerset, they were asked to leave the MRT station and find another means of transport. They were even threatened with a fine if they continued to take their bikes on the train. Getting on the bus has also been a problem for these youngsters. Bus drivers have asked them rudely what they were carrying in their big black bags. Some have asked them to leave the bus. So it seems the only means of public transport for this group of bikers is by taxi. This does not make sense, as the Youth Park is located in the heart of town in Orchard Road next to Somerset MRT station. In fact, this is what my nephew has done for the past few months, spending a lot of money simply to pursue the sport he loves. Ng Lai Yien (Ms)
  11. Sad Story..... Nobody will be left behind. http://au.blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-ggT.wUQleqjkfm7t5uyT5qeY I was born in Singapore and a law abiding citizen all my life. I am neither highly educated nor wealthy. I love my country but unfortunately, it has disappointed me greatly. This blog is to enlighten the government of how some mid-management and "highly educated" civil servants in the government's employ are treating the elderly, low-income and unfortunate (not by choice) citizens with their callous attitude. Some are incompetent or inflexible without any initiative to take responsibility. The government wants us to be a "gracious, caring and thinking" society but this doesn't seem to be the case where some government officials are concerned and defeats all purpose at what the government stands for. 13 years ago in 1994 after an attempted suicide because of my failing marriage, My MP, Mr. Lau, and I have a letter after I attempted to rent a HDB flat through Jalan Burkit Merah centre suggesting that I instead go to purchase a HDB flat. I told them at that time that I had bought 2 flats previously, but they told me that since I was under 21 years of age for the first flat in Ang Mo Kio when it was purchased by my then husband, that I was only considered an occupant, so under their supervision, I filled in the application. From 1994 to 1997 , my purchasing was in progress and I received several official letters informing of my progress (1 ), (2) , (3) (4) It was a big celebration day when I went to pick up my new flat's key and had it in my hand when the HDB officer noticed in the paperwork that I had already had 2 other flats. They did not want to consider what I had been told 3 years earlier! During those 3 years, I didn't attempt to buy a flat on the open market under better finance rates as I was waiting for the flat that the HDB had informed me I was eligible for under the above mentioned exchange. So Ilost the chance for low financing and had to pay rent during the 3 years awaiting newsfrom HDB. Despite how I asked the question why they approved my application since I was disqualify, The officer just confiscated my key back and left me there with a sorrowful and anger with tear. Therefore I went to seek help from my MP , Mr. Tan who wrote letter for me to get back my key. Unfortunately , The replied from the HDB was the same (Click) I didn't give up so I requested the MP wrote to HDB again for the question why they approved my application since I was disqualify to purchase the flat .Then the HDB replied they will answer to us in a short time. (click) In fact , after this reply, there wasn't any latest outcome from them, I was so anxious and worry with nerve if my house key had transfer to other buyer, I went to meet my MP twice and prefer to wait till the last visitor until the late 11 pm over. Sadness~~~ my MP appeared to me he was so reluctantly to meet me, seem I was a very troublesome person who gave him so much problem because he couldn't answer me why HDB didn't reply him. He only told me just wait for the reply with patiently. the last time I met him, how horrible my feeling that he showed me the long face with unhappy , He then told me no need to go and meet him if no answer from the HDB, he throw me a word " No news is the good news, HDB may be proceeding your case now, so it take longer time....." He tried to close my case but never try to fight my right back. I totally give up hope on him and I knew my life was starting changing after no long later Government announced the third loan of the HDB flat for the buyer ,the interest would increase up to higher rate. I was shock and I was still waiting for the news from HDB ...till now have been waiting for 10 years time. Please imagine my feeling all my dearest viewer. Nevertheless I still had to pick up my strength to straighten up my lives. I couldn't stay longer at my relatives house with kids for too long, at that moment, some one advised me that Government was very good to help the poor to purchase the flat, the down payment was very low enough to afford, I listen what their saying and it was real, But that was not a good thing instead of it was another night mare for me. I wasn't really notice the interest was real high at the same time. I just wish to get a house as soon as possible as I couldn't trouble my relative for too long. So I purchased a flat in 1998 at $183.000, I was naive and never thought about the conclusion, just act in a rush. After I got to work so tough and damaged my health to just pay for the installment with the high interest, I then realized I was wrong to get such a big burden for myself. In 2001 I found my second marriage on the net, he was from USA and I thought I finally had a family in the future, Pitiful when I came back from USA and tried to sell my flat out so I could go back there to be with my new husband, at that period the market price of the flat was so low and if I wanted to sell my flat, I had to top up the cash about $50,000 to $60,000, It was another shock for me when the HDB's staff calculate for me. I was so depressed and discussed with my husband. Unfortunately he had two houses that for investment that he had to afford at that moment , he couldn't help me much , neither pay for the installment for me every month . So as to I need to work for paying the installment until the flat sold out. Year by year because of the delay going back to he, We often quarreled over the phone or on the net. We couldn't solve the problem of my flat. And at last he sent the divorce paper to me of the reason that I do not held as a wife
  12. Got this from a nice friend .. This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen... A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: 'I don't believe that God exists.' 'Why do you say that?' asked the customer. 'Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.' The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop aga in and he said to the barber: 'You know what? Barbers do not exist.' 'How can you say that?' asked the surprised barber. 'I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!' 'No!' the customer exclaimed. 'Barbers don& #39;t exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.' 'Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me.' 'Exactly!' affirmed the customer. 'That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world.' If you think God exists, send this to other people--- If you think God does not exist, delete it! BE BLESSED & BE A BLESSING TO OTHERS !!!!!!!
  13. Hi guys, I tried to find the cost of number plate transfer on one-motoring, but was unable to do so. There are different costs, I believe, depending on how it is done 1) transfer between 2 existing cars under a single owner 2) replacement of an unallocated car plate of a new car with an old one to be scrapped/exported Does anyone know how much does either costs? Thank you
  14. ST 21/4 N A reversal of an unpopular long-standing practice, NTUC Income will soon sell motor insurance that allows car owners to have repairs carried out at any motor workshop. This is part of a new strategy unveiled by Income's new chief executive, Mr Tan Suee Chieh - installed in February - to regain its prized No. 1 motor insurance position in Singapore. Income is rolling out two new products next month - including one that allows repairs to be done at any workshop, for about 25 per cent more in premiums. The strategy is a marked departure from the approach taken by former Income boss Tan Kin Lian, who had insisted that policyholders should have repairs carried out only at workshops approved by Income. This was introduced in 2002 to cut inflated motor claims - which it did. But Income paid a price as market share fell because many car drivers prefer to have repairs done at non-Income authorised workshops. Income also faced difficulty penetrating the new car market as distributors of new cars insisted that repairs be carried out at their own workshops. In May last year, Income relaxed the practice by allowing policyholders to have repairs done at distributors' workshops, if they paid a higher premium. This option was meant for cars less than three years old and still under the manufacturer's warranty. But Income managed to insure only 12,000 or about 10 per cent of the 117,000 new cars here last year. It is now in talks with two car distributors regarding possible tie-ups. Next month, Income customers will be able to choose between two plans. The 'drivo Premium' plan will allow car repairs at any workshop while the 'drivo Classic' plan will require repairs to be conducted at Income's authorised workshops. 'Classic' plan premiums will be maintained at current rates - about 20 per cent below the published rate for most customers. The 'Premium' rates will be industry competitive and will be priced 25 per cent above those for the 'Classic' plan, Income said. At a press conference yesterday, Mr Tan said Income's market position has been challenged by intense price competition, under-representation in the new car market and lost intermediary business. But the new boss ruled out engaging in a price war as a means of regaining market share - arguing that stability in premium rates is the best way to go. Income's two new motor plans mean customers will have more options while loyal policyholders who want to continue having repairs done at Income's workshops are assured of affordable premium rates. Mr Tan hopes to raise gross motor premiums to $220 million for this year, up from $165.4 million last year. If the target is achieved, it would translate into a potential market share of 30 per cent. The firm's market share slipped to 24 per cent last year, compared with 30 per cent in 2005 and 37 per cent in 2004. Current top motor insurer AIG's market share was only slightly higher than Income's, at 24.8 per cent last year. Over the next 12 months, Mr Tan expects 15 per cent to 20 per cent of motor premiums to be generated by 'drivo Premium' plans. Last year, Income's motor underwriting profit was $5.1 million, less than half of the $10.9 million posted in 2005. Its gross motor premiums also fell, from $206.5 million in 2005 and $255.3 million in 2004. As part of its motor strategy, Income will be working with car distributors and intermediaries such as external and in-house agents, and stepping up its marketing efforts. Under the new plans, annual premiums for a new two-litre Toyota Camry will come to $1,600 under the 'Premium' plan and $1,281 under the 'Classic'. The rates are based on the assumption that the policyholder is a 35-year-old new driver.
  15. With reference to this thread: http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/General_C1...-_Gad._P943322/ Dtvox have suggested that thread starter should 'look after' their own thread. ~ Great suggestion. I sincerely seek your co-operation in 'looking after' those thread which you have started, regardless of where you start it. How you should go about doing it. For example: You started a thread asking for " Carbon Clearing " asking about what chemical to use. Should anyone start to drift and talk about toll charges in Malaysia. As the thread starter, you may want to gently remind that person not to drift in that thread as you want to gather info about the type of chemical to use and not about toll charges. Should you feel that you are too shy or dun know how to go about reminding others, do feel free to drop a pm to any of the mods of that respective folder. No Political Posting. (12 April 07) It seems like there is an increase in Political related posting made in MCF. Please be reminded that this is a Car forum, kindly do not post any political comments in MCF. Any thread/posting found with political comments, will be removed without warning or reminder. Cheers.
  16. Hi Mods, Not sure if this has been mentioned before..i did a search and didn't find any. maybe i c.o.c.k eye. Anyway, I'm just wondering why 3-lettered-word searches are not allowed? BMW CAE ICE W&W ATF WRX EVO K&N SAE It would really help users of this forum if 3-lettered word searches are allowed. Thanks.
