  3. Was waiting at the junction...very long. I was just looking at the traffic lights and thought "the red and green lights are so close together it's a recipe for disaster"...then suddenly a car almost met and accident. I suspect the lady driver was confused by the lights... Close shave...
  4. KNN. This Ah Tiong damn stupid. Should have just died inside the box and send straight to the furnace to cremate. Want a Surprise? Send her a box of money. Couldnt stop laughing how stupid one can be ===================================== http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-buzz/...-204950208.html Hu Seng hoped to pop out of the box and surprise her, but when she opened it he was passed out One man's romantic gesture almost killed him when he ended up trapped in an airtight box for much longer than he should have been. Hu Seng, from China, wanted to surprise his girlfriend with a present, so he decided to mail her himself. The Daily Mail reports he hopped into a box, curled into the fetal position and made a friend tape the box closed and send it via courier to his girlfriend, Li Wang. He was hoping when the box arrived at her office he would jump out of it and surprise her. But that's not quite what happened. The couriers mixed up the address and instead of the delivery taking 20 minutes it ended up taking about three hours. Seng had very little air and by the time it arrived at Wang's office, Seng was unable to jump out and surprise her because he had passed out. He had to be revived by paramedics. He had a friend waiting at her office with a camera to film the whole thing. "I didn't realize it would take so long," said Seng in a Daily Mail article. "I tried to make a hole in the cardboard but it was too thick and I didn't want to spoil the surprise by shouting." The Daily Star reports if Seng told the courier firm he was in there they wouldn't have accepted the package. When animals travel they have to be in special containers so they can breathe.

  8. After the 2 crashes at Bugis, I became a bit more careful when moving off when the light turns green. Guess what ? It saved my life and my little kid's life just now !! 18:05hrs at junction of Anthony Road Cairnhill Road (next to Environment Building). I was approaching the junction and the green light has been there for some time. Thinking there was gonna be a red Ferrari round the corner, I released my gas pedal and slowed down to a crawl before turning into Cairnhill Road. Just then a dark blue SUV ignored the red light on Cairnhill Road and sped past inches away from my bonnet !!!!! I was so stunned I jammed brake, car still partially into the junction and looked at the lights again - still GREEN IN MY FAVOUR !! I am thankful to God that I can come back home and type out this incident out.... Everyone, drive super-safe. There are a lot of crazy drivers out there.

  10. Its spring in Germany now, & while welcoming the warmer weather (relatively speaking, as its still hover around freezing +/- in the morning & night), one thing I notice is meadows on the grass fields. Even the grass outside my balcony is a small medow field (just discovered today). Very the nice. Make me wonder why in Singapore, I hardly see them. I know meadows are usually wild flowers & no one maintenance them, I for sure, did not work on the glass outside my place, non see anyone do any work. Probably, they are not as common in the tropics, but for a country branding itself as garden city, we have too much tree vs flowers ratio. We could plants some flowers on open grass areas & create meadows fields. I think it will looks really great. It could be a nice activities for primary school kids to spread seeds around an open field to create them. Now this is an enrichment activity I will approve, also making them appreciate mother nature more. What you guys think?

  13. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...fronts_man.html Posted on 09 Nov 2011 Driver swerves into lane and confronts man -- just because he was 'high-beamed' The Honda Fit driver swerved dangerously into STOMPer vkfbdriver's path and angrily confronted him, just because the latter had flashed his headlights at him earlier. The STOMPer described the incident: "A reckless and inconsiderate young driver did not signal when changing lanes. "I high-beamed him once to warn him, but he jammed on his brakes. "I overtook him in order not to get into any accident, but he tried to create another incident again. "Luckily, I managed to brake in time. "He continued straight on after this, showing that he had deliberately cut into my lane just to stop me. "This happened on Nov 6, at about 2pm along Woodlands Avenue 12 just before junction turning into Woodlands Avenue 1." *** Check out the embedded video at the end of web page which recorded how the incident started...

Was suprised as on that day i parked on double yellow lines along with a whole stretch of other cars. so tot shd be safe with such numbers as cover and i was taking my dinner nearby with my eyes affixed to my car looking out for cisco wardens. its was 930pm evening. i did not receive any ticket on that day but after almost 2 month later i receive this love letter of $70 ive seen cisco warden taking pictures of cars illegally parked but i did not know that no need for a ticket to be issused on the day u parked illegally? or maybe TP booked me and save on cost of issuing a ticket not sure how, so anyone one can enlighten me and also serve as a warning that if u see no ticket on ur wind screen doesnt me no fine if u illegal park.
  16. It would be tragic if one day either side did not back down and conflict occurs.. But from the military enthusiast's point of view, it will be interesting to see the outcome of a Flanker vs Falcon showdown. 17. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...eTabs%3Darticle If Temasek's nervousness proves well-founded (that's a BIG IF considering its past history), then China, and consequently the entire world, is in for a rocky time. I knew the bull run was too good to last. At least Temasek made a billion dollar profit this time, instead of their well-publicised billion dollar losses like in the past.
  18. Congratulations Singapore! ----- Jun 1, 2011 Singapore millionaires rise by almost 33%: Study Around one per cent of households have 39 per cent of the globe's wealth according to a study published on Tuesday, with Singapore's millionaires rising by almost 33 per cent in 2010. --ST PHOTO: ABDUL AZIZ HUSSIN WASHINGTON - AROUND one per cent of households have 39 per cent of the globe's wealth according to a study published on Tuesday, with Singapore's millionaires rising by almost 33 per cent in 2010. Over 15 per cent of households in Singapore have over a million dollars in assets under management, well ahead of the Switzerland and the oil-rich Arabian Gulf states. The number of millionaire households across the globe increased 12 per cent in 2010, according to The Boston Consulting Group report, increasing millionaires' share of wealth from 37 per cent in 2009, pointing to increased inequalities in the wake of the global downturn. Despite being at the epicentre of the global financial meltdown, the United States had by far the most millionaires last year, with 5.2 million millionaire households, and increase of 1.3 per cent from the previous year. Japan was second with 1.53 million and China third with 1.11 million. But it is emerging markets in Asia that can expect to see the biggest growth, increasing their share of wealth by 2.9 percentage points in 2010. -- AFP
  19. ..we have a housing problem lah...and KBW seems set to correct it...... but funnily how come that horse alwes say no problem....say sGeans fussy lah, etc etc..... serves the a$$ right kena retire Rental flats supply set to increase By Joanne Chan | Posted: 29 May 2011 1945 hrs Photos1 of 1 HDB flats (file picture) VideoRental flats supply set to increase SINGAPORE: Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan said there is a shortage of rental flats in Singapore, and there is a need to ramp up supply by "ten of thousands". However, Mr Khaw said it will take some time to make up this shortfall, as the construction industry is unable to cope with the sudden surge in demand. Mr Khaw spoke about the need to ramp up the supply of rental flats, during a youth forum at the Woodlands Community Club. "Single mothers, divorcees (may) suddenly have no flat (or) no money to buy (one), so they are counting on rental (flats)," Mr Khaw said. "Then there are all kinds of HDB rules that prevent them from renting. The rules are not frivolous. "The problem HDB faces is that they are just short of rental flats. It's quite clear in my mind -- we need to ramp up the building of rental flats as quickly as we can. Not just by a few thousands; actually we need to (increase) by tens of thousands. And the earlier the better." This comes two days after the HDB announced the supply of new BTO flats will be increased this year from 22,000 to 25,000 units. Mr Khaw said the HDB needs to build "almost similar numbers" of rental flats, but said there are challenges. While Mr Khaw is keen to ramp up the supply of new flats quickly, he admitted the construction industry cannot cope with this sudden surge in demand. The industry is used to building some 15,000 units a year. As such, Mr Khaw said it will take some time to meet demand. Mr Khaw added he needs to study the capacity of the construction industry to understand how fast flats can be built. Meanwhile, Mr Khaw was asked at the forum, about the large presence of foreigners in Singapore. Some in the audience said they felt threatened when it came to competition for jobs. Mr Khaw acknowledged that too many foreigners were allowed in, the last few years, and there was a need to calibrate the numbers. But he noted the relationship between economic growth and foreign labour, and said by reducing their numbers, Singaporeans are accepting there will be trade-offs. Mr Khaw said: "We thought (taking foreigners in) was important to bring wages to people's pockets, so that we can grow as fast as we can... (and) catch up with other countries. "But now, we get the message that 'we don't want so much growth, that we are prepared to accept slower growth'. "It actually affects the youth immediately, because when you slow down growth, it means that job opportunities also come down (and) starting pay also comes down". Other issues touched on at the forum included alternative pathways for youths who want to pursue the arts, and global competition. -CNA/wk
  20. Hi folks, A car belong to a friend of mine was hit by a lorry this afternoon in her own residential car park. The car was already parked in the lot allocated for season parking holders. There were substantial amount of damages done. According to her, the driver almost wanted to flee from the accident. She was near to her house window when she heard the loud thud and saw a lorry moving off beside her car. She quickly ran to grab her phone to take pictures while shouting at the driver to stop. The lorry then reversed and the driver alighted from his vehicle while she instructed him to wait for her to come down. It turned out that driver is a PRC. As soon as she reached downstairs from her apartment, there were kind souls who approach her to be her eye-witnesses. One of them had mentioned that the lorry was doing a 3 point turn and it hit the vehicle when moving off. She took down the particulars of the driver, snap some pictures of the damages done and a letter for the driver to admit his fault. Police report was also made. Since it is the eve of lunar new year, there are no workshops available for repairs. She had recently bought the car. The damaged done was terrible enough that the front bonnet failed to open. She would not want to take the risk to drive the car out. As it is an OPC car, she had lost out the benefits of driving during this period, especially house visiting during the New Year. The waste of time, rental of car, etc are some of the inconveniences she had to encounter. I would like to seek views and opinions from the forumers here to assess the claim that she may or will receive from the insurance. Any good advise will be appreciated too. Thanks folks. Have a great new year! Cheers! Noel.
  21. As topic, I engaged a quite reputable polisher who provided doorstep service but due to the nearing of CNY they decided to make it the other way round meaning you have to go to their place. Well I'm fine with it, so i booked a slot with them and they were supposed to get back to me to confirm the bookings which they never did. I then took the initiative to call them and then ask whether my car is do-able since it has a body decal. The replied was "yes" . The day before my unconfirmed appointment, I got this sms from them saying "We can't do it for you because your car is full of decal". This is my first time attempting to get a polish for my car so I dunno any about it. So is this true ? Anyway my decal is those glossy type.
