  1. Hey all, Just wondering what's the fuel consumption for altis 08 like? I got my ride a few weeks ago and is in the process of "running-in". Pretty disappointed with my current FC of 10.4 (after first tank...currently monitoring my 2nd tank). I've been pretty gentle on acceleration etc. Does a 16" tyre affect the FC? What about during engine running in period?
  2. Just curious if the current Altis from Borneo Motors which comes with a CD player, would the player accept a USB thumbdrive and play MP3/WMAs etc? Thanks for information in advance.
  3. As another thread discussed, Dual VVT-i Wish already luanched in Singapore, 1.8L 144hp and 2.0L 158hp does it mean altis c/w Dual VVT-i engine is going to come Singapore soon? dream power even wins over same cc civic fd

  6. Hi bros/sis.... Any Altis owners can give some advice?? My remote is on new batt so i see no reason why it doesn't seem to function at all. I believe most of the altis owners are still on the Silicon alarm system. How do i reactivate the alarm?? Btw i know there's this tiny red button just on top of the accelerator pedal which has got something to do with alarm....
  7. You were weaving in and out of traffic along SLE - CTE at speed of more than 100km/h. Squeezing into tight spots, which was supposed to be the safety distance between vehicles. And mind you, you did not do a slow squeeze in, in fact, you cut abruptly into their lanes! From behind, i can see many drivers frantically activating their brakes to avoid hitting you. And most importantly, YOU DID NOT EVEN SIGNAL ONCE. NO ONE CAN READ YOUR MIND. All it takes is someone who is not alert and you'll get a new bumper. Please drive carefully and signal before you change lane! I know you are driving a company car, but that doesn't mean you can anyhow drive! To all, just be alert when you see this car. You'll never know when he will cut in front of you. PS. No, this driver did not cut into my lane. I saw the whole episode from 1 or 2 cars behind.

SGT plate altis and a young chap with p-plate.. drive carefully!
  16. Need help from the experienced bros here, is the rim pcd for the Toyota Altis and Nissan Sunny FL N16 the same?
  17. I have been seeing lots of Altis on the road recently so I guess there must be quite a number of MCF members here owning the new Altis. I have been hearing the car having poor FC at ~10.2 Km/l but these are before the breakin period. Is there any 2008 Altis owners out there who can share with us how is the FC likes now after the breakin period? Can the new Altis FC achieve 12-13 km/l under normal driving condition (50%hw, 50%city, light footed)? And also this question: any regrets after buying this car?
  18. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=49 What are your opinions on its existence in the 1.8-litre market?
  19. Hi Bro, I think you should be taken off the road soon. Early morning 7plus, you try to endanger other road users' lives at least 3 times. First you, turn right on a lane which is supposed to go straight only just because you did not want to queue up like the rest of us. Want to play punk right. Next, seeing a bus in front, you try to lane change without checking your blind spot and steer back into your lane when you spotted vehicle A last minute. I bet vehicle A driver must have gotten a stock right in the early morning from your stunt. Then you decided to try that stunt again immediately after the vehicle A pass you even though there were vehicle B behind vehicle A. In the end vehicle B has to slow down to let you pass in order not to go into an accident situation. Then you lane change back to the front of the bus again because as the van in front is slow. Then you again lane change back to the front of the van when there was just enough space for you to squeeze through. If you are rushing to hell, please leave others alone. Go somewhere where there are no people and do whatever you want to to kill yourself. Pui Pui Pui to you reckless and inconsiderate driver.
  20. It doesn't make any sense to me to compare a cheaper car with a more expensive car and then when the conclusion is that the more expensive car is a better car than the cheaper car. But I believe there are many who cannot really decide between the cheaper Altis and the more expensive Civic and are stuck in the decision making. And also it seems that the cheaper car does have some things to beat civic despite being cheaper so worth to have the comparison. Certainly in terms of 0-100km/h timing and fuel economy, civic wins. What about other factors? I will start off with spaciousness and occupants protection, since I have experts data on these. In terms of practical spaciousness, Altis is the winner: source from http://cars.gidblog.com/2008/03/15/new-cor...eration-part-i/ INTERIOR Length (mm) : New Corolla Altis @ 1,810 / CIVIC @ 1,890 (+80) / Previous Altis @ 1,850 (+40) Width (mm) : New Corolla Altis @ 1,420 / CIVIC @ 1,380 (-40) / Previous Altis @ 1,380 (-40) Height (mm) : New Corolla Altis @ 1,200 / CIVIC @ 1,165 (-35) / Previous Altis @ 1,230 (+30) Above is the interior diemenions that we don't usually see in the specs. Civic may have much longer legroom than Alits, but Altis will be less cramp for 3-4 adults seating behind (40mm wider). And with altis legroom already sufficiently spacious, having more shoulder to shoulder space would be more practical than having more legroom. There is more headroom for Altis than civic. In terms of occupants protection for front and side collision, Altis is the winner: source from the european NCAP http://www.euroncap.com models Front side Civic FD 12 15 Corolla 2007 15 16 (the tester car is stated as 2007 which is the same as the altis 2008) Comment on the civic by the NCAP: in the frontal test, the driver's airbag was not sufficiently well inflated to prevent the driver's head from contacting the steering wheel. The passenger compartment remained stable. Structures in the dashboard presented a potential hazard to the driver's femurs. (Altis don't have the above issues). In terms of handling, Toyota claims Altis is the winner. But this one has to be verified by third party expert test drive review. In terms of stopping power, Toyota claims Altis is the winner. But my friend test drive both cars feel that civic stopping power is better. So need to wait for expert test drive to verify. In terms of ride comfort and sound insulation, I don't have expert review comparison for these. But my take is that Altis is either matched or better than civic, since civic FD still sacrificed a bit of passenger comfort for improved driving experience, and toyota has put a lot of effort in insulating the new altis, sacrificing on FC. And my disappointed experience in my good friend's civic FD that the comfort and insulation is only slightly better than my old vios. Even he also sense the difference is slight not significant when he later sit in my vios (btw, my 3yr vios has wider and quiter tires than the old vios stock tires which probably has improved ride quality). In terms of cost, Altis is the winner, obviously. In terms of exterior and interior designs, subjective to personal perference. But I personally find altis exterior more executive looking and more solid feel than the FD, and the interior more elegantly simple, ecofriendly, and got the jen feel while the FD interior is still as complicated as before. Anyone knows if the test drive comparison between this 2 cars are out already?
  21. VW Jetta 1.6L now selling for only $79,000. that's the cheapest german car that is available for budget conscious family man. In terms of width it's wider than the 2 jap cars, meaning 3 people seating behind will feel less squeezy. And it's 6 speed auto, beating the civic that is 5 speed auto. Fuel economy is at 12.2km/l, matching or better than the civic 1.8. But the 0-100km/h timing is miserable at 13.3sec, with power only at 102bph. Altis is 12.2sec/107bph. Civic 1.8 I think is under 10sec. the wheelbase is 2578mm so expect not so good legspace, also losing to the 2 jap cars. Kerb weight is also the heaviest. So with this consideration: Altis 1.6A $69,000 key winning factor: price, quiet ride. Civic 1.8A $78,000 key winning factor: acceleration, driver's car. Jetta 1.6A $79,000 key winning factor: it's a conti german car. (i will never consider 1.6 civic so it's out from my buying list). Will you choose the Jetta 1.6A? (note that the other version is 1.4A which has the same engine as the golf gti and cost close to $100K).
  22. Toyota Corolla Altis CNG Version This Year Submitted by peter on 19 March, 2008 - 13:45. Alternative Fuel New Cars Toyota TMT has confirmed that it will have a bi-fuel version of the 10th generation Corolla Altis by the end of 2008. The car will retain its regular E20 fuel system and tank, adding to it a CNG (compressed natural gas) system with a 70-litre tank in the boot. As with current Taxi conversions this will result in about 1/4 - 1/3 reduction in boot space. The tank will also increase the weight of the vehicle by around 100 kg, and Toyota will replace the rear coils springs with stiffer coils from the Corolla wagon which is around the same weight as this CNG version. Although this car is primarily targeting the local taxi market, it seems that there would be logic behind offing a regular consumer version also, and even exporting to other markets such as Singapore. The CNG Altis will be using the 1.6 litre engine. The gas version of the 9th generation Corolla being used as taxis in Thailand is badged "Limo" and is quite a cut down version, sitting below the "J" base model in terms of specification. If the new CNG Altis is to attract customers from outside the taxi industry, it will really need to be offered with a higher trim level. With the global oil price sitting well above $100 a barrel ($108 at time of writing), and showing no signs of dropping off, it makes sense for Thailand to make a move away from oil. Gas is the obvious choice given that Thailand has a local supply. Gasohol and E20 might be cheaper that regular petrol, but when gas is just 8.50 a kg, and LPG is THB 10.15 a litre compared to THB 28.59 for the much hyped E20, the price difference card doesn't really work in the favour of E20.
  23. Finally we have got the first expert review on the new alits 1.6A shown in the sgcarmart. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=28 Toyota has been selling Corollas since the 60's. Despite serving the masses well, it
