  3. Hi guys, like to consult MCF brothers and sisters who might have been in a similar situation before. My friend just received a TP letter charging him for 'driving without consideration for other persons'. The offence carries a $200 fine and 9 demerit points. My friend just wanted to pay the fine and get it over with, but I thought the outcome was unjust. Here's what happen on the road: He stopped behind a lorry which is dropping passengers. In an attempt to overtake the lorry, he signalled right and checked his blind spot. That was when a foreign motorcycle rammed past his right car mirror, losing his balance and crashing onto the road. The right car mirror broke into pieces as a result of the impact. Needless to say, both road users could not resolve the dispute, each making allegations at one another. Due to abrasions on the foreign motorcyclist, he checked into a hospital. My friend was then called down by TP to record a statement. Subsequently, this notice of traffic offence arrived in the mailbox. I'm not sure how TP arrived at the conclusion that my friend drove without consideration, bearing in mind that his car was stationary when the bike crashed into his mirror. Of course, I understand that this is just his side of the story, and the IO probably have a different view on the accident. But does that mean that every car driver has to be penalized for the recklessness of other road users? (Especially locally unqualified foreign road users who are not familiar with traffic rules and safety) Thanks for reading, I guess I just wanted to find out if its worthy to pursue the case further or just get it over with. My friend can't even be bothered to appeal the offence, saying its a waste of time.

  6. Just met with a slight accident at the 'damned' junction. An Isuzu pickup (silver with green stickers) almost crashed right into my driver side door as I was going straight into Yishun Ave 1 from Mandai Ave. Luckily the Isuzu driver swerved in time to cause a long dent instead. The pickup was turning right from Yishun Ave 1 into Sembawang Road. As it was at the middle of the junction and raining heavily, the pickup went off as I was parking my car away from the junction. Any information of the pickup's license plate no would be much appreciated.
  7. taken from: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthre...29#post35480629 This is an URGENT APPEAL to everyone out there. DAVEE needs a foster home URGENTLY! PLease help to spread the words around. Thanks! Background: Davee is part of the five dogs residing in a home. Max and Zoe have been removed from the environment by a rescuer. Tick fever plagues her and is suspected to be linked to the open wound. With low PVC, her wound is bleeding and this could lead to bacteria infection. Still, Davee does not show any improvement from the tick fever treatment. Vet's prognosis is not optimistic but treatment ensues. Davee is a four-yr-old female who requires daily administration of medication, plus cleaning of wound 2x/day with simple bandaging. Sits quietly to allow wound cleaning and gentle in spirit. Side view: the gaping, crater-like wound on Davee's lower back can't be more obvious Top view: a good part of Davee's coat is shaven off. Her crater-like wound is stark to the human eye A close-up of the wound Sweet DAVEE. So friendly and gentle in spirit.

  12. Extend us the same courtesy, pleads M'sian I ENJOY myself whenever I am in Singapore and I know many Singaporeans enjoy visiting Malaysia. But, perhaps Singaporeans should be wary of the habits of their fellow drivers who spoil the Republic's image when they boast of how they can speed in Malaysia because it so easy to flash RM50 (S$21) to a policeman here and get away with it. They boldly park indiscriminately and act as if littering in Malaysia is not a problem either. Granted there are some corrupt people everywhere, but it does not bode well for Singaporean visitors to behave badly outside Singapore and spoil its good name. Imagine maintaining an upright image in your own country, but behaving badly elsewhere. It is not fair that those who misbehave in Malaysia should create some resentment locally against Singapore drivers in general, so this is an appeal to the guilty ones to be more civic-minded and not add to bribery and corruption in your neighbouring countries. 13. Where is the appeal in Acting Cute? I see more often these days grown men & women talking like they are little children? Is there an appeal in doing this or is this some form of new fetish? I'm not saying that this is wrong or right, I'm just trying to understand the reason for the following action. Do you find it appealing to you? Why?

  16. goodbye jailbird ================== BT 31/5 FORMER National Kidney Foundation (NKF) chief TT Durai has failed in his appeal against a corruption conviction and will have to serve a three-month jail term starting June 10. The High Court yesterday dismissed Durai's appeal against the conviction and the jail term, with Justice Tay Yong Kwang saying he found no reason to disagree with the conclusion of the trial judge. District Judge Aedit Abdullah found the former NKF chief guilty of corruption in June last year, based mainly on the testimony of key witness David Tan. Mr Tan, a long-time friend of Durai, owned the design firm DTC to which Durai issued a false invoice for $20,000 in June 2007. The court found that Durai asked Mr Tan to draw up the invoice for design work at NKF centres to trick the charity into paying his friend. When pressed on the witness stand, Mr Tan could not say what work was done. Judge Aedit said the offence was serious because it involved a charity's funds. Justice Tay agreed with that verdict yesterday, saying Durai was 'in a position of trust and authority' at NKF and the money in question belonged to a charity whose funds come from trusting donors. He dismissed Durai's arguments that a custodial sentence would affect his ability to repay his debts to NKF. Durai owes the charity $4.05 million after losing a civil suit last year filed by NKF. The former NKF chief will start serving his jail term on June 10. The court allowed him to defer the sentence as his elderly mother is having an operation next Tuesday. The former NKF chief faces a second charge of corruption for allegedly using a false invoice to approve a $5,000 payment from the charity to an advertising company called DecisionOne. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years' jail and/or a $100,000 fine. Durai is now working for Property Facility Services, a real estate management company, and is starting a firm in the United Arab Emirates offering health care and human resource services in the Middle East. He is its chief executive officer, based full-time in Abu Dhabi, with a pay packet of $25,000 a month.

  20. My relative was knocked down by a Sliver colour sedan with car plate number 8961, at Toa Payoh Lorong 4 near the Church at around 16 50 at 07/04/2008. He was too stunned to remember the letters. The driver drove off without rendering any help. There were 2 eyewitness (middle aged aunties) but they say the plate was SQI8961 (not possible). Is there a way to ID the car/owner based on these observations alone? Thanks

  23. Hi, I was involved in a accident in a car park while I was reversing. I admited my mistake and the other party claimed my insurance. The damage was quite minor. What I did not know was that a few days later the other party saw a doctor and claimed doctor fees. It become a police case, and I just found out that I got charge with reckless driving and to be fined $500 with 6 demerits points. I was shocked. I was only driving 10 km/h, reversing, and the damage was so minor. How can I be reckless driving ??!! Anyone of you encountered this before ? Can I appeal ??
  24. A CARPARK operator which at first won $3,000 from a motorist who drove off with one of its wheel clamps is now a lot poorer for having pushed its case through the courts. Blenwel Agencies now has to pay up 12 times the sum in legal costs - including $5,000 in costs - for bringing its case right up to the Court of Appeal. The Appeals Court, explaining its reasons in a judgement released last week, reminded lawyers against bringing up such 'hopeless applications' in future. Justifying the $5,000 in costs it put on Blenwel's tab, the court noted that the carpark operator had sought leave to appeal after its application for such leave had already been rejected by a district court and the High Court, and that the tab covered the work done by the motorist's lawyers in preparing for the appeal. Judge of Appeal Andrew Phang, writing on the court's behalf, said Blenwel had already used up - unsuccessfully - two chances to apply for leave to appeal under the law, so lawyers needed to think seriously about 'adverse consequences' before advising their clients to take the route to the Appeals Court. Blenwel's failure in the two lower courts set it back by $1,600 in costs, in addition to some $30,000 in legal fees for court hearings spanning three years. What a Joke !!
