  1. Teacher wins appeal against insurer over legal costs By Wong Mun Wai, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 03 October 2007 1351 hrs SINGAPORE: Primary school teacher Jonathan Lock won his legal battle on Wednesday when the Court of Appeal ruled that he does not have to pay legal bills amounting to S$120,000. The Appeal Judges, including Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong, ruled in favour of 35-year-old Mr Lock and ended the legal tussle that spanned over 18 months. CJ Chan described Mr Lock's case as "incredible" and said judges have not seen one "like it in all their years in law". Mr Lock's ordeal started with a motor insurance claim to his insurers, NTUC Income. Last year, the Primary Dispute Resolution Centre (PDRC) at the Subordinate Courts awarded him S$188 and ordered the other vehicle owner to pay S$1,200 in costs. But NTUC Income, which is also the insurer for the other vehicle, appealed and brought the case to the High Court. It claimed the Centre was not a court and its judges did not have the power to issue court orders. In May, a High Court ruling agreed with NTUC Income. Mr Lock appealed and was eventually pulled into a legal tussle. NTUC Income offered to waive the S$45,000 legal bill and even offered S$25,000 as a goodwill gesture on condition that Mr Lock drops his appeal
  2. Hi,,, to any of u guys here who had experienced the same situation as i am. Pls help. Received a SUMMON on my birthday in July. Got letter of fine in early August. Afterwhich i sent an appeal letter and they replied the acknowledgement to ignore the current fine payment in the mean time till they review my case (parked opposite single white line larh at Swensons Orchard behind - bloody hell no tickets on my windscreen somemore) Then i just received a letter today which is of exactly the same format as the 1st SUMMON letter i got before my appeal. Its just that the due date for payment is later. Does this mean that they declined my appeal or they overlooked my appeal and sent me the SUMMON letter again (just that this time, its of a different due date)? Do i have to call them and clarify or send appeal letter again? wah lau. i wrote appeal letter still kena this. how can??? My birthday leh i sent appeal letter dated on National day as i received it 2 days before it, also never give chance. sad siah...

  4. Helping a fellow motorist...cut and paste from here -> http://www.subarulegacy.sg/viewtopic.php?t=4038 Hi Bros & Sises, It has never come across my mind that I would be one whom has to turn to forum & club for help until today. My wife & I just got back from NUH after visiting her cousin suffering from severe injuries. He had been a victim of a early morning hit-n-run traffic accident. He suffer a gash on his left upper arm that needed stitches. Bruised chest & mild head concussion. Fractured left leg Fractured right fore arm He was riding his ride on his routine way home after work at between 7.30am to 8.30am (when his wife received a call from police) Tuesday (7 Aug) morning. He was travelling along Upper Bukit Timah Road, near Courts towards Choa Chu Kang where he stay. Then a car came from behind and hit him and sped off. It was passer by who saw my cousin in law laying on the road with a damage bike and call for help. Noone had step forward to provide any information nor were there any witness to the accident. My cousin in law did not even know what happen. He said one moment he was riding his bike home, the next moment he was laying on the road in excruciating pain and a scrapped bike. He held 2 jobs to support his 3 mths old baby boy & wife. We were not able to contact his company HR today to get confirmation if he is covered by the company insurance after his working hours. This careless driver had caused much grief & anxiety to his young family. He is one of our less fortunate counterpart where, when the hand stops, the mouth stops too. I sincere hope that through our forum, I am able to reach out to many helpful souls to provide as much information as possible to this accident. Kindly contact David aka Pukebomb @ 93666561 if you have any information to share. Thanks in advance and your help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Hi Everyone, My Grandma got knocked down by a Brown colour Nissan Car on 31st Jul-07, Tuesday, in the morning, between 7.45am to 8am. The accident happened along Bedok Reservior Rd towards Kaki Bukit Ave 1. Exact Spot is between a muslim mosque, MJD ALKAFF KG MELAYU, and the bus-stop before the mosque. The driver mentioned he was on the left lane of the two lane, when he signal right and overtook a taxi, when my grandma walk right into his path from left to right. Driver also mentioned that he did apply the brakes, but was unable to stop in time and hit my grandma. The whole windscreen of the car is shattered. No signs of tyre marks can be found after the accident. Currently, my grandma is in the Surgical ICU @ CGH. She has been in a coma since the accident occurred, more than 48 hours ago. My family and I are now, appealing to all eye-witnesses to step forward and contact the police. Please give your account of the accident to the police, so that we can all know the truth. 6. Apologise if I have offended anyone... I don't know where to post... so decided to post in general forum. Please come forward and help if you can. Posting on behalf of a fallen rider's family. My heart goes out to them... I can feel their loss, those who know me know what I mean... They are looking for witnesses to a terrible act of recklessness resulting in 2 kids being fatherless... and a woman widowed. Apparently the taxi made a illegal turn resulting in this rider's death... The rider has 2 young children... please help to see justice served. It won't compensate his family or bring him back... but a strong signal needs to be sent to errant lousy taxi drivers who think they own the road. I'm not anti-taxi drivers... I have 2 uncles and a few friends who drive taxis... and I "lecture" them to be careful too. http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150021 below extracted from SBF posting Hello sir, I am Thierry's brother, and the police is looking for witnesses. Please contact them if you have witnessed the accident, all our family will be very gratefull for this. contact is : Clement Tan, Traffic Police (no 10 ubi Ave 3) phone : 65476216 or 98397704 Bests regards, Hugues Leroy // Rennes // France
  7. Sounds like a small issue, but nevertheless: I got a deep scratch on the drivers door from some crazy fellow at IKEA Tampines on Monday (25th Jun 07) between 1050H to 1105H. I park on one of the family slot close to the main entrance. My car is a silver moss CM4(accord). SGQ 15xx carplate. Parked beside me on the right was a blue car, can't remember, either a Toyota Corolla or Lancer, those compact cars. If u happen to be there or noe anything, pls PM me. Also, if u are the merc driver who i helped, can also PM me if u have seen anything. Chances are slim, cos' there ain't many ppl there on Mon morning. Just trying My luck. Thank You much!
  8. Dear all, something horrible happened to me this morning at around 7.20am. I was driving along the left-most lane at CTE, with the lane leading me to the exit on the left at AMK Ave 3. All this while I saw this pickup in front of me on my right lane. (His lane can turn either to the left exit or go straight ahead) As there was still some distance away from the exit, somehow i ended up in front of him by his left. (I'm still at the left-most lane) Suddenly, he swerved in by the side of my rear, banged my car, smashed my 3rd window panel, n grazed all the way to my driver's side mirror. I was taken aback by the 1st impact of his pickup banging onto my right-side rear that i immediately slowed down n stopped. He was still driving ahead! I had to horn him to stop. What I didnt understand was, why did he bang onto me when I'm already at the left-most lane and didnt stop his vehicle despite the first contact? I cant help but wondered. I'm thankful that I'm still alive, coz the very fact that he grazed through my car was a horrible process. Thankful that I only suffered some soreness in my back and hips, and some minor pains, few hours after the incident. This is the only direct route to my workplace from CTE, and the driver of the pickup actually said it's me who cut into his lane, wanting to go to the right, which was quite ridiculous to me, as if i did what he said, I wld've missed my exit. After this incident, I really . You really cant prevent people from banging u. N i hope that he will not ever commit such deed ever again. Esp the rise of accidents and people who refused to reflect, such as what happened in "Man in month-long coma after traffic row dies" Worse still, nw thinking back, I find that the photo on his IC that he showed me didnt really match him in person. Any idea what I can do? Coz i suspected that he's those labor worker from China. I have also taken a photo of him with his pickup. Hope that fellow forummers, if you happen to be at the area of my accident at that time, and has seen it, please come forward to help me. Please spread this to your buddies who may have been witnesses to this accident too. Thank you very much!

  13. Hi all peeps, there was an accident that took place at the Upper Paya Lebar Road - Bartley Road junction about a month back (25 Oct at 5.40pm). A motorcycle travelling along Upper Paya Lebar Road proceeded straight across the junction on a green light, but a Mercedes Benz in the opposite direction turned right into Bartley Road simultaneously, without checking whether the coast was clear. The motorcyclist was flung 10m onto Bartley Road and conveyed to hospital later with a fractured leg. I've attached a picture of the aftermath of the accident. Basically, I'm hoping that if there are any witnesses to this accident, please contact me at 8112-7014. This is important because it concerns the liability of the accident and subsequently, the claim amount. There were a lot of vehicles passing by the accident scene because it was the evening peak period and everyone was going back home. If you happened to have witnessed the accident, pls contact me. Thanks. [inline accident.jpg]
