  1. where to park (for free) in geylang if i am going for food? any open space car park or those in the pte residential areas?
  2. Last week, I saw on news that Malaysia may reduce the toll charge to help people cope with inflation. This week: Five new ERP gantries to go up in S'pore River area Ministry says retailers should not worry. -ST Maria Almenoar Sun, May 11, 2008 The Straits Times WHEN an Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) cordon went up around the Orchard Road area in 2005, there were concerns not just from motorists but from retailers as well. These businesses were worried that the move would drive customers away. The Government's counter: The measures were necessary to keep up the buzz of the area as traffic had slowed down to 15kmh on Orchard Road. Not everyone was convinced, but the gantries went up and ERP hours were extended to Saturdays and for an hour more on weekdays. The aim: To discourage motorists from using the shopping belt as a way of getting to other destinations, such as Marina Bay and Suntec City. Three years on, a study has shown that vehicles have indeed been able to move along faster. Traffic speeds went up to 25kmh and have since stabilised at an average of 23kmh; the volume of traffic has shrunk by 20 per cent. And the retailers have stopped complaining - shoppers are still making their way to the strip. Orchard Road Business Association spokesman Stephen Goh noted that the cordon had noticeably reduced the amount of pass-through traffic on weekday afternoons. 'The overall effect is something positive because what we are left with are the 'real shoppers', not people just using the road to get elsewhere.'

  5. Hi all: Can anyone suggest a good network of roads that would be suitable for someone who has not driven for a while to practice driving? A good area would be with wide enough roads, not much traffic, not that many parked cars. Preferably in Ang Mo Kio, Bisha, Toa Payoh area. I did think of Seletar Camp though it's a little far. Appreciate your suggestions.... ============================
  6. Any good workshop to recommend in Bukit Timah/Woodlands/Yew Tee/Bukit Batok area? Requirements of Mechanics: Reasonably experienced, honest, responsible and posses sufficient sets of repair equipment. I know it might be easier for me to find a dinosaur instead. Ideally, the workshop should have a car-jack which could raise the car to beyond shoulder for examination of the undercarriage. This is important as the mechanic could show and discuss with me the faulty parts which need to be repaired (before carrying out the work). I have come across workshops which have a pathetic jack and could only raise the car to kneel cap level. The mechanic would then struggle and crawl underneath the car himself. Did a 3-minute quick check and asked me to replace two lower arms. I had to pay $430 and another ~$30 to have the wheels aligned at his neighboring shop (because his shop is not well-equipped). Worst, I did not have my problem solved after paying for close to ~$500. When I returned to tell the workshop owner, he still had the cheek to tell me it "could be" due to the power steering rack problem and wanted to charge me another $380. But I just had that rack replaced a few months back. I need to find a good workshop in the mentioned area. Please let me know if you have one to recommend. The shop should also be professional enough to issue a proper receipt, not scribbling the "repaired parts" on a small piece of toilet-like waste paper. BTW, please don't recommend Simon to me. Thank you.
  7. A word of caution from my m'sia colleagues: Tonite at ard 6pm till late, JB's city area will have roads closure due to 游神. 'Chingay' alike style. Cheers.
  8. Anyone has experience with good Toddler Daycare centre in Sembawang. I'm currently looking at Poppet and Joy Educare but not sure they are good or not.
  9. I know current prices are ridiculous but I would like to find out the threshold before you sign the purchase so please feel free to voice out. Assumptions: 1) Orchard is FH while Marina Bay is 99 LH 2) High floor units for both locations (highest possible in fact) 3) For own stay 4) $$$ not a problem Please don't waste time by saying you don't have $$$ cos we already assume $$$ not a problem but doesn't mean you can be carrot head and kena chopped at $4000psf
  10. Hi all, I've a few appalling experiences after having some food at Ikea Tampines. Now everytime I go there, I can see heaps of rubbish on tables, uncleared plates, food on the floor, serviates flying around. Its like a pigsty! I do remember going Ikea is a nice experience as everyone would clear their tables after they finish their food. This doesn't seems to happen now. It got to a point that I'm truely disgusted by the behaviour of the customers patronizing the place: 1) only 1 poor pathetic cleaner trying to clear hundreds of never ending plates and dirt piles 2) customers complaining to this cleaner for not cleaning their table fast enough 3) best of all.. they see the rest not clearing their tables, they join in as well, leaving their filth for others to clean. Just to let all of your know. Ikea's food area has a long running policy that the customers should clean up when they leave. Do your part, remind those beside your table that they need to clear when they leave. Rgds
