  1. Several months back, I wrote about supercars left abandoned in two Middle Eastern countries. One of them is a Ferrari Enzo that has been impounded in a Dubai police impound lot. That particular Ferrari is still sitting in the same impound lot and it, together with other luxury cars, might have a better and brighter future. The authorities in Dubai have decided to auction off the Ferrari and 23 other luxury cars. Failed entrepreneurship was the reason why these cars were left behind but the best question to ask right now is; who is the person who did this? Apparently, the owner of the Ferrari Enzo is believed to be a British citizen who bought the car and then fled the country 20 months ago when he/she could not afford to pay the loan and traffic fines. Being in debt in the country is a crime and according to an official in Dubai
  2. One of the most iconic Ferrari models ever built will head for auction next month in Monaco. The Ferrari F40 prototype is only one of eight ever produced by Ferrari and is completely decked out in racing livery. It was the most powerful, fastest and advanced car of its time and made its first public appearance at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show marking Ferrari's 40th anniversary. Made out of carbon fiber, Kevlar and aluminum, the F40 packs a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine rated at 471hp good sprinting off to a 100km/h in 4.1 seconds and capable of reaching a top speed of 325km/h. This particular GT racing-spec model features weight-savings measures, bigger brakes, wider wheels and tires along with a power boost to about 600hp.

  4. When Dutch car collector, Frans van Haren, won an auction for a vintage 1937 Mercedes car, it was just like a dream come true. But it turned into a nightmare when it got confiscated by the local authorities in Germany where he brought it to have the car displayed at the recent Techno Classica Car Show in Essen, Germany. The car you see here is a rare (and obviously, precious) 1937 Mercedes 500 K Roadster (type W29); where only 392 were made in total including 29 units that were roadsters. Frans van Haren acquired the car in an auction last year in August. He paid an enormous amount of US$ 3.767 million dollars for it and decided to bring it to the above mentioned auto show. At the auto show, German police confiscated the car as a result of a claim by a custodian acting for the family of the car
  5. LONDON - A US car enthusiast has bought James Bond's famous Aston Martin car, complete with ejector seat and revolving number plates, at auction in London for more than four million dollars. The 1964 silver Aston Martin DB5 was driven by Sean Connery when he played the fictional British spy in the films "Goldfinger" (1964) and "Thunderball" (1965). US collector Harry Yeaggy flew into Britain for Wednesday's sale and outbid his rivals to buy the car for 2.6 million pounds (S$5.3 million). Click here to find out more! This was less than its pre-sale estimate of more than five million dollars. Yeaggy said the car's new home would be in a US museum - but beforehand he planned to "have a bit of fun" taking the car for a spin around the streets of the British capital. "We're going to fire the car up and drive it round the streets of London tonight. We're going to have a bit of fun with it," he told BBC television. The US collector said he had taken a last-minute decision to fly into Britain for the auction, and confessed to being surprised that an American came out on top in the sale. "I thought a European would buy it. But I guess they didn't appreciate Bond as much as we do," he said. The Bond movie car was sold by its US owner, Pennsylvania broadcaster Jerry Lee, who bought it for 12,000 dollars in 1969. The proceeds will go to his charitable foundation. It is fitted with the full complement of operational "Q-Branch" gadgets, and auctioneers RM Auctions dubbed it the most famous car in the world. The car is also equipped with machine guns, bullet-proof shield, tracking device, removable roof panel, oil slick sprayer and smoke screen, all controlled by "toggles and switches hidden in the centre arm-rest". "The machine guns, as you can see, do come out of their intended place. As far as I know, they don't shoot bullets, but then again, I haven't tried," Don Rose, a car specialist for the auctioneers, told AFP. The gear stick top flips up to reveal the red ejector seat button. It also has a homing radar and a telephone mounted inside the driver's door panel. The car has been on tour over the past five months, with appearances in Britain, Germany, Monte Carlo, New York and Hong Kong. Admission to the sale in Battersea, south London, required the purchase of an official auction catalogue available for 50 pounds. Purchase of the car, lot 197 in the sale, also included a stay at the GoldenEye resort in Jamaica, the original Caribbean estate of Ian Fleming, the British author who created James Bond. A custom-made suit woven with gold thread made by the tailors who dressed Connery as Bond was also thrown in.
  6. A special edition car made or designed by/for celebrities are not common nor is it something new. There have been a few examples such as the Paul Newman R30 Skyline. But the difference between the Paul Newman Skyline and this two special edition Lotus Evora S is that the Evoras are one-off items specially designed for charity purposes. The Freddie Mercury Evora S was specially made for the birthday (05 September) of the late former Queen frontman who passed away on 24 November 1991. To honour the occasion, Lotus donated a one-off Lotus Evora S which will be auctioned off during a commemorative event. The auction proceeds will go to the Mercury Phoenix Trust. The striking white sports car features red and gold racing stripes as well as an interior which was influenced by one of Freddie Mercury

  13. With all the COE getting out of control in terms of runaway $$$$$....and common folks like us KPKB every month with the record COE results....do u think we should have a balloting system whereby an owner buying his / her first car should for example pay S$10k. Second car S$ 20k, and third car S$30k. For the super rich...anything above 3rd car should be 50k and above. I think part of the reason why COE prices also going out of control, is due to the fact that some wealthy families have 4, 5 or 6 cars in their household....u know the typical Mercedes, BMW, Porsche and a Lambo or Ferrari ? I think they are taking up quite a fair bit of COE's alloted to the general public....hence I feel the above suggestion should be a fair way to deal with such disparity in car ownership till date. What do u think ? Suggestions pls..
