  1. I guess money can't buy proper road etiquette, can it? On 5th May 2021, a short video was posted on Facebook of an Audi A8 driver driving recklessly along Lower Delta Road. It's so bad that I even experienced some serious second-hand embarrassment from watching it. For those of you who cannot stomach the video, I am going to provide a play-by-play description of the incident below. So, we start off with the camcar driver, who is innocently drives along the road and slows down when approaching a red light at a traffic junction. He stops behind a black Audi A8, which continues to inch forward past the white line with total disregard to the red light. The driver continues to try his luck and even attempts to turn right while there's traffic coming from both sides on the adjacent road. As if realising that there's no way the universe will let it turn right, the Audi suddenly reverses and almost hits the camcar. Once the lights turn green, the Audi wastes no time zooming ahead without stopping at the right turn pocket. The driver positions the Audi dangerously near oncoming vehicles as if asking for an accident to happen. The Audi edged so far into the lane with oncoming traffic that it even made a silver vehicle stop dead in its tracks to avoid a collision. To carry on forward, the silver car had to manoeuvre itself around the Audi in an awkward fashion. If you thought that was all, think again. There's more! When the Audi driver saw an empty pocket of space, it sped off to complete the right turn, but there were two oncoming vehicles that could have crashed into the Audi if they had gone any faster. Netizens quickly took to the comments to voice their opinions (with some speculating that the Audi driver is either drunk, high or does not have a driving license): Simplified translation: 'You have to wait for death if you want to reincarnate, what's the rush?' What do you guys think of this road menace?
  2. Here is the 2014 Audi A8 facelift which, despite possessing some impressive technology, looks like an offering from the early 90s. It's sharp, boxy and bland. Compared to the all new S-Class or the 7 Series, the A8 looks really boring, although the MatrixBeam LED headlights are pretty impressive. The facelifted A8 comes from the same automaker that brought us sexy machines like the Quattro concept, the RSQ, R8, RS5 and so on. It actually looks like a rejected design piece from Bentley, to be honest. Or perhaps Audi had to tone down its design just so the Bentleys could look more 'exclusive'. Built around the lightweight aluminium Audi Space Frame, the A8 has been finessed by subtle resculpting of the bonnet, the single frame grille, the front bumper and the lower edge of the headlight units. At the rear, the design of the LED taillights have been revised and the bumpers in all models - except the S8 - incorporate two rhomboid tail pipes. New chrome elements, new high gloss black window surrounds and five new colours also mark out the updated car. Measuring 5,140mm in length, sitting 1,950mm wide and standing 1,460mm tall with a 2,990mm wheelbase - the A8 remains unchanged, while the 'stretched' model provides better rear leg room thanks to a 130mm extended wheelbase. The A8 can be powered by one of seven petrol and TDI engines, the majority of which have been revised to improve performance and efficiency. The supercharged 3.0-litre TFSI is boosted to 305bhp, while the twin-turbo 4.0-litre TFSI V8 has 429bhp. The 3.0-litre and 4.2-litre TDI oil burners, have 254bhp and 379bhp respectively. Paired with the renowned quattro all-wheel drive system, the 4.0-litre TFSI now throws the A8 from nought to 100km/h in a brisk 4.5 seconds. The power units in the facelifted A8 is not all about the Frank Martin pleasing performance though. When applicable, the Audi Cylinder-On-Demand (COD) system deactivates four of its eight cylinders to give priority to fuel economy. The most efficient diesel engine is the 3.0-litre TDI, which returns up to 20.36km/L, corresponding to 155g/km of CO2. The luxuriously equipped Audi A8 L W12 quattro is the range topper among the A8 lineup. The lightweight 6.3-litre power unit produces 493bhp. It boasts the best in-class combined fuel consumption of 10.2km/L, corresponding to 270g/km of CO2 emissions. The respectable efficiency rating is due in part to a newly adopted version of the COD system, which can deactivate the fuel injection and ignition for six cylinders. Meanwhile, the 512bhp capable S8 is powered by a 4.0-litre TFSI engine that propels the sports saloon from nought to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds. Equipped with the same COD technology, the S8 is capable of returning up to 11.9km/L and 235g/km of CO2 emissions. All A8 models are equipped with an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission which transmits power to all four wheels via the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system in all six, eight and twelve-cylinder versions. The new Audi A8 is expected to reach customers here next year. Audi A8 Audi A8 L Audi S8

    Audi

Audi is finally introducing the production version of its A8 hybrid concept, which goes on sale in 2012. Like the concept which was presented at the 2010 Geneva Salon, the greenest version of the A8 will feature a parallel hybrid power train that combines a modified 2.0L turbocharged TFSI gasoline engine delivering 211hp and 350 Nm of torque, with a disc-shaped electric motor that develops 54HP and 210 Nm. The A8 Hybrid goes from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds with a top speed of 235 km/h. Electric energy is stored in a lithium-ion battery, which weighs 36.7 kilograms and is located in a crash-proof area in the trunk. The car

    Twist of luck

Like the old saying goes, you win some, you lose some. In this case, Connecticut Powerball winner Rahul Patel, saw his one-week old Audi R8 destroyed by fire. According to a report from the Connecticut Post, Patel was driving the German sports car in Fairfield when he suddenly noticed smoke coming out of the engine compartment. After he pulled over on the side of the road and stepped out to see what was wrong with the two-seater sports car, it went up in flames. Lucky for him that he stepped out of the car just in time! While no one was injured during the incident, the $140,000 R8 was almost burnt to the ground. Fire officials said they are still investigating the cause of the fire. Luckily for Patel, the winning part [lottery ticket] was substantially higher than the losing part [Audi R8] as the 33-year-old Newington resident claimed a $25 million Powerball Jackpot prize last summer from a $1 ticket. He opted to take the prize as a one-time cash lump sum, receiving some $12.5 million, which ended up being around $8.7 million after federal and state taxes.
  7. Audi has pulled the curtain off the A8 Hybrid at Geneva. This is a near production concept which is scheduled for production in late 2011. Powering the A8 hybrid is the tag team combination of a 2.0 TFSI engine (208 hp) and an electronic motor (44 hp). With a combined output of 252 hp, the A8 hybrid performs the century sprint in 7.6 seconds. Performance figure is quite decent although some might consider it mediocre. For the greenies, the average fuel consumption is 6.2 l/100km while CO2 emissions are 144g/km. These figures compare favourably against the Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid, which does 7.7l/100km and 186 g/km. The hybrid drive is designed for fully electric-powered driving up to 65 km/h and for a distance exceeding two kilometers. When the Audi A8 Hybrid starts moving, both of its engines (the 2.0 TFSI and the electric motor) operates hand in hand according to driver's demand. Above 65 km/h, the gasoline engine provides all the propulsion needs, while the electric motor supplies power for onboard usage and recharges the battery.
  8. The Audi A8 has always been renowned for the extravagant amount of technology that the car holds, alongside with the Mercedes S class or the BMW 7 Series. Though Mercedes usually pioneers implementing the latest technology in their cars, Audi has taken a step forward by announcing that their upcoming version of the A8 will have a revised Multi Media Interface (MMI) featuring Google Earth as part of the car's navigation system. In addition to the traditional hard-disk navigation system, an optional GPRS/EDGE modem is integrated into the MMI nav-plus system allowing a constant stream of information to be downloaded and accessed from Google. Users can now use both the car's GPS navigation system and plan out trips using Google Maps, or by using Audi's online portal where the data from the maps is analysed and relayed to the car's onboard computers. The new A8 will also feature automatic cruise control with "Start/Go" functionality and an eight speed gearbox. Things get even better when you insert your SIM card into the MMI system, or dock your mobile phone through Bluetooth. Once connected, Google Earth can display a three-dimensional view your surroundings which appears on the 8" LCD panel with terrain modeling and satellite images. The integration of Google Earth into Audi's MMI system is scheduled to go live in the middle of 2010. Hopefully we Singaporeans will be able to enjoy this 'first' by Audi as more and more cars here are getting integrated with factory fitted Satellite Navigation systems, but if you don't have an Audi A8, there's always your GPS enabled mobile phone..
