  1. Hi People, I am currently driving a March 2006 cefiro 2.3l. The mileage is around 36k. I am thinking about selling this car ($45k?) and getting a cheap avante to "save" money. Will I actually save money? I am worried about maintaining the old cefiro. Something just died on the ceifro last month and cost me $500 to repair. The 40k servicing is coming up and I think doing with Tan Cheong will cost quite a bomb if there are many parts to be replaced. I don't really drive that often, 3 years only 36k mileage. I am curious, will it be cheaper to drive a 3 year old 2.3l cefiro or a brand new 1.6l avante, taking into consideration the depreciation of the car, the servicing, the insurance, and road tax. My GUESSTIMATE is 2.3 cefiro 1 year depreciation = $5k?? servicing = $1k insurance = $1.6k road tax = $1.6k petrol = $250x12 = $3k parts/repair costs = $1k total = 14.2k 1.6 avante 1 year depreciation (average over the next three years cuz first year depreciation very high) = $5k?? servicing = 0k insurance = $0.8k road tax = $0.7k petrol = $200 x12 = $2.4k parts/repair costs = $0k total = 8.9k Is any of my numbers wrong?
  2. Just to share my carpc ... I have a carpc in my hyundai avante for about 3 years now. Recently I have upgraded to a ATOM chipset (from the old VIA mini-itx board) Showing some pics I took during the install. Testrunning the setup at home desk The carpc with its mini-itx ATOM board Fitting the VGA touchscreen Fitment to the console Mess of wires PC mounted below driver seat Amp mounted below passenger seat First mounted and boot to Windows My frontend A full screen mtv Integrated Garmin Coming upgrades: - starhub mobile broadband, can watch ppstream incar liao - OBDII install (Avante uses CAN-bus) - USB DVB-T and DAB - Bluetooth handsfree Some people might ask... why put a PC in the car? - HDDs can put many many GBs worth of serials/songs blah blah .. literally tons.. - Big screen GPS - Price.. it costs much less than the SONYs or Alpine double dins, yet performs as good. (Total setup less than SGD 1k) - Outperform those yucky china double dins by alot - I'm geeky and loved the curious look from frens exclaiming ... "You have a Windows in your car!!" To get this setup running, there's lots of details. Feel free to ask me questions. Can email me at [email protected] I have also started a carpc build thread in sgsoundsytem for those whom are interested. http://www.sgsoundsystem.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25519 Cheers, Danny
  3. Went to Seoul for work two weeks back. Pass by Hyundai showroom and saw a very nice car...brand new Avante. Walk in to the showroom with my Korea colleague. Nice Very very nice indeed - exterior and interior. I was shocked when look at the specs: 1) 6-speed gear box 2) ESP 3) Auto wiper, light, cruise control, folding side mirror 4) Auto parallel parking 5) 140 horsepower 6) Sunroof 7) 6 airbags 8) Reverse Cam and GPS 7) Keyless entry with Start/Stop button 8) ECO drive feature. on paper 16.5km/L 8) many more All in for just 25K SGD. WOW..... I asked my colleague to do a test drive. In korea, test drive is easy, just pass the driving license to the sales person and you can drive the car off without sales person. So, my colleague drive for a while and I took over. Power!!! I was pitty that on lower gear the engine noise is noticable. On gear 3 onwards, it get more quiet. Cruising at higher gear is just enjoyable. I believe, next year will be the year of Avante, if the pricing is right. Avante - I love it.
  4. WOW....the looks is impressive! What a difference compared to lau-kok-kok Japanese design. KimChi Boleh! I would get this car if I had not bought my Jazz. http://www.autospies.com/news/SPIED-Is-Thi...Momentum-56476/
  5. Would like some advice from fellow MCFers regarding the upcoming Hyundai Avante. My current ride is a 6 year-old Impreza which has given me no problems so far. However, when I saw the new Avante on a recent trip to Korea, got a bit tempted. It looks nice with quite impressive specs (140hp according to the TV commercial). My main priorities are safety, reliability and practicality (in that order). Can the folks out there with experience in Korean makes give me your opinion about how Korean cars are like to drive (especially when compared to an Impreza), and if you would advise getting the Avante. Thanks in advance.
  6. My Avante (SJX#####) going to reach 1000km soon. i registered in late May this year. I know that Komoco will NOT provide free parts that are going to renewed or replaced, I like to know if any brothers here can recommend me a shop that I can buy those Engine Oil, Transmission Oil, Air filter etc (let them check to see what need to change) so that i can pass the package to Komoco service engineers when they service my car. I hear say that komoco charge a bit high on those oils, etc which i can purchase somewhere else easily. Hope someone can recommend or advise me. Thank you.

  8. Hi guys! I drive my son to school every morning 6.30am and I noticed this driver is also a "regular" at the carpark outside my boy's school. He will park at this lot which is nearest the gate of the school, spending 5 mins in his car with wife and daughter (chit chatting, I guess) before letting her off and driving away. Good for you, spending some quality time with your kid. Now, there was once when I arrived before him and stopped my car at the lot nearest the gate. Uncouth driver arrives soon after, he stopped his car behind mine and started gesticulating with his hands . .. Woah! apparently he is not happy I took "his space" in the carpark. He refused to move his car even after I switched to reverse gear and he made me waited for a couple of minutes, then he moved and parked beside me on my left. Started to glare at me (I ignored the siow keng kiah) and from then onwards, it was that KSMLJ face he will show me every morning. This morning, he was in before me and I parked beside him. His wife had got off the car and was escorting the daughter to the school gate. I got off my car as well but the uncouth driver was already glaring at me as usual. WTF! I was thinking . . . what the hell does he want? Walked my son to the school gate but when I was 5m away, he shouted in his car "KSMLJ!" and it was within earshot of my son. "Daddy, why he use bad words?" my son asked. "Dunno lah, ignore him, he just came out from IMH" I replied. Now, Mr Advante driver of SDW9711*. WHAT DO YOU WANT? You want a fight? If yes, don't hide in your car and play masak masak. Come out for some fresh air. You don't frighten my kid by using colourful languages and acting like a hooligan. Come on out and we'll talk, why hide? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?? You are lucky I'm a good natured guy but I have my limits. Good luck to you if you bump into someone nastier then me because he may just thrash the dung out of you. Take care! knn, make me write compo first thing in the morning And for my MCF brudders, when your family is with you . . . think of their safety first. Don't act rash when you bump into this kind of butthole.
  9. Go on sale in Korea in Aug 2010... Maybe will in Spore first quarter 2011?
  10. Hi, May I know what kind of FC are you, the owners, getting? Thanks.
  11. Hi Brothers n Sisters , Need a bit of advise. I am considering getting a new manual. tight budget. After going through the prices size etc . I got almost the price the Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6M GLX & Hyundai Avante 1.6M S. Which one would u pick ? Thank you !!!
  12. it seems that Avante ride is much quieter than forte's. Is it due to the sound-clad which comes with avante or tire size? Avante comes with sound clad SP and thicker tires. Or is it due to other reasons???
  13. just now saw a avante police car at national stadium. since when did SPF buy avante a police cars?
  14. To the owner of Hyundai Avante Sports Make, SJQ458*P, I hope that you are a member of MCF and I really hope that you are reading this. I see you very often in the multi-storey carpark in the morning and I have noticed the following bad habits that you have: 1) You're very heavy footed and the speed that you're driving at in the multi-storey carpark is very fast 2) You tail gate drivers that are moving down the multi-storey carpark 3) You overtake drivers on bends (Not the main road, but the small road circumference of our HDB flats) Allow me to remind you that it is early in the morning, alot of old folks go out for their morning walks, parents/maids walking their children to school, alot of road users going to work, the way you drive is simply RECKLESS! The speed that you're driving at allows minimal reaction time for yourself, other drivers and pedestrians. PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE AND THINK for the safety of others. If you're in a rush all the time in the morning, please do something to avoid the mad rush..you'll be a much safer driver and you won't start your day feeling so flustered with all the mad rush. I really hope you're reading this.
  15. Looks like a good looker. http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightline/2009...ai-elantra.html
  16. Only days after the unveiling of the new Verna in Beijing, Hyundai rolled out the next generation Avante saloon at the 2010 Busan International Motor Show. Boasting a much sportier look than its rather dull predecessor, the new Avante continues Hyundai's 'fluidic sculpture' design philosophy that most automakers would describe today as a "four-door coupe". There are no photos of the new Avante's cabin, but we can assume that the interior styling will be heavily influenced by the larger Sonata. Hyundai has kept most technical details to itself at the moment, but the South Korean maker did reveal that the front-wheel drive Avante will be offered with the new 1.6-liter Gamma Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder unit is rated at 140 horsepower with 166Nm of peak torque and is claimed to be 10% more fuel efficient than its closest competitors according to Hyundai. Technical goodies include High Intensity Discharge headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD information display nestled in the gauge cluster. 17. Considering between these 2 cars and wondering whether to book it now or wait for COE to drop since the current price is based on Dec $18+K COE which is easily the highest in 2009 Which is a better buy ???
  18. Hi Bros, I was looking around SgCarMart & noticed the Hyundai Sonata's depreciation is lower than a Vios/Avante! Given the choice, which car will you choose? Any particular reason why the Sonata is not in demand? http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...505&DL=1047 http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...303&DL=1198 http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...929&DL=1257
  19. This is a further update to my earlier post on the all new Hyundai Elantra. Now, we have the first clear images of the completed interior of the brand's popular compact offering. Hyundai has ditched the conservative design of the current Elantra in favor of a rather radical and polarizing one, not unlike the cabin designs seen in the new Sonata and Tuscon. It takes the instrument cluster layout from the Tucson crossover and the steering-wheel design from the new Sonata, while centre console is a mixture of both. Although it is not an all-new design, I find it quite refreshing especially when compared to the more conservative cockpit of the Toyota Corolla. I also like the design of the interior door handle, which looks classy and stylish. However, I find the gearbox console a bit of an eye sore. It's oversized in my opinion and looked rather squarish. Here's another image of the interior, taken from the driver's door angle. The contour of the dashboard at the passenger side reminds me of the current Civic, which projects an airy sensation. The sales date has not been confirmed for the 2011 Elantra. However, sources report that the launch date is tentatively scheduled for July of 2010.
  20. Hey noticed my 2 yr old avante had this squeaky noise whenever if steer to the rite. Left is normal. Looks like hv to bring it back to KMC for warranty. anyone with similar issues??

  23. SINGAPORE'S top model continues to be Korean. Where once it used to be Japan's Toyota Corolla Altis (although this is assembled in Thailand), the numbers are now firmly in the Hyundai Avante's favour and it looks like the winsome Korean sedan will go on to take the 2009 title (see table). With 4,472 units delivered in the first nine months of 2009, the Avante is streaking ahead of the previous bestseller, the Corolla Altis at 3,533 units. The Avante's popularity began in December last year, boosted by an attractive low price. Although COE premiums have since risen, the 1.6-litre Avante still starts from $50,999 with a manual gearbox - significantly less than the $65,988 of the most affordable Corolla Altis. The latter's price is a consequence of its relatively high OMV or open market value, currently at an average of about $17,800. Among authorised distributors in Singapore, another Korean model which is steadily speeding up the popularity charts is the Kia Cerato Forte. It has garnered total registrations of 2,470 and is now in fourth position. Singapore's No. 1 model in 2008, the Honda Civic, is now in seventh position, slowed down by the strong Japanese yen. The rest of the Top 10 is still filled with familiar nameplates but one surprise entry to the list is the Mitsubishi Lancer EX. With total sales of the 1.5 and 2.0-litre variants at 1,017 units between January and September, this newer model has overtaken the ageing Lancer GLX model, which is still popular because of its low price. But gone from the Top 10 are small hatchbacks such as the relatively premium Honda Jazz, and the Kia Picanto, once the cheapest car in Singapore before the China-made competition arrived. This article was first published in The Business Times.
  24. Hoping to educate the driver above 1. If someone gives way to you, it's polite to wave to say thank you. 2. If a police officer is directing traffic, please follow the officer when he is asking you to move even if the light is red. 3. I only tapped (not blast) the horn to alert you to the officer's instruction - there is no need to point fingers, jam brake etc in front of me - FYI the police officer was staring at you while you were busy waving your fingers. 4. Using the handphone to call while driving is also illegal 5. And lastly, since you showed me 999 on your mobile, I went back to the police officer to get his name and check if he witness the incident - which he did. FYI, i did not make a report to the traffic police to report your case, but I am not sure if the TP officer will investige. Should the police decide to investige - Good Luck Bro! :)
