  3. Hi people, please stop taking photos or videos on your mobile phone the next time you come across an accident. Help the victims, just like what the 12 year old did. He approached both drivers involved in a traffic accident to check on their well-being when no one else stepped in to help. When 12-year-old Ashvin Gunasegaran was on his way home with his friends after school, they heard a loud "boom" behind them as they were crossing the road. He turned around and saw that two cars had collided in a middle of the junction of Yishun Ring Road and Yishun Ave 2. Without a second thought, the Yishun Primary School Student rushed to attend to the victims. He was warned by his friends not to step forward as the roads were too dangerous. "I thought someone would step up and help but then it turned out there was no one. Everyone was just taking pictures and no one was helping them," said Ashvin. He approached the drivers one after another and he found out that one was pregnant and her leg was bleeding. He eventually waited for the ambulance to arrive before leaving the scene. For his gallant efforts to ensure the well-being of the victims of the accident, which took place around 1.10pm last Tuesday (May 31), Ashvin was awarded the Public Spiritedness Award by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on Thursday (Jun 2). Speaking at the award ceremony, Commander for the 3rd SCDF Division Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Chua said: "You are never too young to be somebody who renders a helping hand. Ashvin is just all of 12 grand years in age and I'm very surprised, in fact, and very happy that he has stepped forward." "We hope all people could do likewise despite the fact that we had people standing by taking photographs and your friends were quite hesitant to come forth. He did so. He did a marvellous job," LTC Chua added. Ashvin's mother, Swares Helen Louisa, 50, who was also present at the award ceremony, said she is very proud of her youngest son. "He is my hero in the house now. I really didn't expect he went all the way to help the two ladies that (were) involved in the accident. So I'm really very happy," she said. "I feel heroic. Because I actually thought that it would be a normal day after but suddenly everyone started calling me a hero, all my friends and all my family," said Ashvin.

Others had recoiled from the man and his stench, but Madam Noriza's subsequent acts - she knelt down to wipe the dried faeces off his legs and bought him new shorts - moved a bystander to tears. Noriza A. Mansor - The Straits Times Singaporean of the Year 2015 nominee Video No blood ties but 'I see them as my parents' She did not stop there, however. Since that day, she has regularly used her days off to visit Mr Tan Soy Yong and his wife Madam Lee Bee Yian, both 70, even after they were moved into nursing homes. Orphaned when she was 21, she said she considers the elderly couple to be like her adopted parents. Madam Noriza said of her win: "I'm speechless. I feel very happy but also a bit sad because uncle (Mr Tan) could not be here today. But I felt like he was here beside me when I went on stage. "I hope everyone will do something like me and not ignore people who are poor and handicapped. Actually, they don't want to be in this kind of situation. Don't neglect them." 10. By Elena Chong A man who stole a total of eight iPads worth $6,824 from the Police Technology Department was jailed for three months on Monday. Yap Bao Fa, 27, was working as a senior support officer in the Singapore Police Force when he stole from the headquarters at Irrawaddy Road . He admitted to three counts of theft involving four iPads between Aug 16 and Sept 10 last year. The remaining four charges were taken into consideration. The court heard that he was authorised to access the secure metal cabinet at the Police Technology Department where new Apple iPads were stored. He had to scan his staff card and key a password into the Key Management System to open the "key press'' to retrieve the keys. When a number of iPads were found missing from the cabinet on Sept 10, a check of the access log records of the "key press'' showed that Yap had accessed it to get the key to the cabinet a number of times. Three iPads worth $2,559 were recovered. He could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined on each charge. http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...rtment-20130715

But in Korea, it maybe the begining of the other way round after tax cuts on imported vehicles were made recently in Korea. Trying to imagine if more models start flooding their maket with foreign Jap imports. The parallel Jap imports and Thai made Japanese models are just as expensive here in Singapore and why can't we get the cheaper made in USA version. http://www.mycarforum.com/blog/myautoblog/...the-year-award/

It is the first time that an airport has won the award six years in a row. Dubai Airport won the award for three consecutive years from 2001 to 2003. The ASQ is a comprehensive set of awards granted by Airports Council International, an association of around 1700 airports worldwide. South Korea's major gateway also won first places in Best Airport in Asia Pacific and Best Airport with annual passenger traffic between 25 and 40 million, the ministry said. Ministry officials attributed the airport's notable success as a North-east Asian hub to its constant efforts to seek innovation. The list includes expanding its international routes, improving the airport's accessibility by establishing a railway and Incheon Bridge, which connects it with nearby cities, and offering prompt and efficient services to users, according to the ministry. -- THE KOREAN HERALD/ANN
