  7. (JAKARTA) A two-metre-long piece of wing broke away from a jetliner minutes after it took off from Indonesia's largest airport, but the plane managed to land safely, officials said yesterday. The incident late on Wednesday involved a Boeing 737 operated by local carrier Batavia Airways. It will add to concerns about the safety of flying in Indonesia, which suffered a series of accidents earlier this year that killed more than 120 people. The wing section measuring around two metres by 1 1/2 metres fell from the plane around 15 minutes after it left Jakarta's Sukarno-Hatta airport on a domestic flight, said Totok Suwarto, a senior official there. Anton Situmeang, a spokesman for Batavia Air, said the plane underwent a full service 'around one or two months ago', adding that a full probe into the incident had been ordered. Mr Suwarto said the plane returned to Sukarno-Hatta without incident. Detik.Com news website said the wing piece hit a house not far from the airport, but there were no immediate reports of injuries. 14. beware and better don't play play The 300 motorists who got away with $300,000 of free parking - Jan 31, 2007 AsiaOne Police are investigating how more than 300 motorists got away with free parking in seven carparks in the city area last year, for which the operator could have collected some $300,000 from them. CapitaCommercial Trust's (CCT), which operates the carparks, only discovered this when it noticed that several cars which had entered its carparks were not recorded as having left, said a report in The Straits Times today. CCT has reported this to police. CCT suspects that some of the following methods could have been exploited by the motorists to evade parking charges. - An electronic device could be sending signals to the carpark scanner and fool it into believing that the necessary payment has been deducted. - Motorists could be tampering with their CashCards or the radio-frequency system used by automated gantries to identify each vehicle via the in-vehicle unit (IU). - Motorists could have resorted to tail-gating. By sticking closely to the vehicle leaving the carpark, the built-in sensors which controls the barrier, would not be able to detect it. CCT has so far recovered $150,000 from the errant motorists who did not protest when confronted with details of their entry and exit times. Those who refused to pay up have been referred to the police. If you are thinking of getting free parking this way, you had better not return to the same carpark. Ever. Cars that are logged as having left without payment will be recognised by their in-vehicle unit (IU) numbers. Re-entering the scene of crime will result in "red flags" being raised, and the errant driver can have his car wheels clamped.

  17. I just found out that most of my marks on my car actually comes from the new mircofibre cloth I bought from "BIG" superstore at harbourfront. It is selling at about $1.50 for a pack of 2. Just when I tought I got a super good price for it. After using it with my QD for about three times, I felt that my car seems to have more unknown scratch appearing. At first I tought it could be from the sand or dirt when I was wiping it with my QD. Only just now, I went to wash all my cloth to make sure no sand and dirt. Went to my car again to wait for my wife and was listening to my audio. Feeling bored, I took my CDs out to wipe. At LAST! I found my cause! When I was using the cheap mircofibre cloth to wipe, very very thin scratches started to appear with each wipe! ... To be fair, the marks only appear when I am only using abit more rubbing power on the CD. I tested with the rest of my mircofibre cloth and none left as much scratches as this. The rest only left very very light marks if I am using great rubbing power. Now I am going to use those cheap cloth for my dash board and engine bay. Just when I tought all mircofibre cloth are the same. Please everyone, test your new mircofibre cloth with a CD just to make sure you got yourself a good cloth. One thing I know for sure, cheap stuffs dun come good .. and good stuffs dun come cheap ...
