  1. My frd witness a stunt whereby a Rex E-braked when travelling in excess of 200km/HR in a deserted Malaysian road. The Rex screeeched to a stop with the 2 rear tires lifting up to approx above knee to waist level.Apparently this was done in purpose as the driver was a rich SOB with money to throw. Wat I'll like to know is that is it possible to e-brake til a car's rear end come up. As apparently I had told another guy frd abt the incident and he swore that it's not possible as the car would have simply skidded sideways or spin etc and told me he's 100% sure it cannot be done and I'll be the joke in town to tell ppl abt wat happ though I tend to disagree with wat he had said I mean stopping from 200KM/hr,where is the momentum and inertia force going to go right?
  2. Will there be a good performance gain by installing a cat-back exhaust system as compared to a a free flow exhaust.

  5. Hope you guys still remember me removing my CAT converter recently. Due to my conscience, I decided not to pollute the air and save the environment. Had this guilt of removing the cat, so I managed to get a 2nd hand one last week and got it fixed back. Now, I can sleep better...haha
  6. A close friend related this unhappy, undesirable and unfair experience to me.Really freak ed the hell out of me. Someone hit his new toyota vios from behind(obviously NOT his fault) so he go ahead to claim the other party insurance but when he reported to his own insurance,he was told that they do not do 3rd party claim & suggested he claim his own insurance 1st,then get all relevant documents and claim back from the other party insurance(to be done all by himself). As this is the 1st time he dealt with such situation,he got no choice but to follow suggestion,in the end was only able to claim back the access amt he had paid (abt $400-access of his own comprehensive policy) from the other party insurance company. Now since he had made a claim against his OWN insurance,he lost his NCD & higher premium next time. Some even suggest that he should get a lawyer to write a letter to the other party insurace to fight for the claim but too risky if he were to do that, becoz he might end up gaining nothing and still got to pay for legal fees-not worth at all. This is a clear cut case-NOT his fault,if happened few yrs ago,no problem at all, never heard of such thing as "we dun do 3rd party claim". Now seemed that not his fault but in the end he become the victim-lost NCD and pay higher premium. Can someone advise on this? Any solution ? why why why???

  8. Hi Guys Need to check with you guys the following. 1)In auto car, if you stop on a slop (eg HDB carpark), with the gear in "D" mode, if you release your foot brake and does not step on the accelerator, does your car roll back? Or is there a slight/heavy roll back? 2)Is is ok for roll back? Will the gear box or the engine be damage in relation to question 1? 3)On that slop mentioned earlier, must the gear be shift to "2" mode? 4)I test drave my friend's matrix (brand new) yesterday and had a shock when the car roll back while in "D" mode (moving from stationary on a slope). I think this is an abnormal behavious. Could it be because the car is too heavy and the creep forward force cannot overcome the weight of the car on the slop? 5)In auto, what is the procedure in moving off the from slop without damaging the car. 5)In auto mode, normally at what speed when the fourth gear is engage. Can we see the gear change at RPM needle.

  12. Chevy back after half a century Don't expect models like Corvette yet, but look out for the Chevy Optra, styled by the Italian design house known for its Ferraris By Christopher Tan Bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levee But the levee was dry... THAT seminal line from Don McLean's evergreen will have a new ring for motorists here when the brand that is as American as apple pie makes a comeback this week - after an absence of nearly five decades. Advertisement http://ads.asia1.com.sg/image.ng/Params.richmedia=yes&site=tsti&size=300X250 General Motors, which owns the Chevrolet among several other brands, will relaunch it on Thursday after nearly a year of preparation. But Singaporeans old enough to remember classic Chevys like the Impala and Camaro, or younger petrol heads yearning a ride in the Corvette, might be disappointed. Models like those won't be coming here any time soon. Most of the Chevys due here are rebadged models from Daewoo, which GM took over last year. This doesn't mean car buyers won't have anything new to look forward to. Chevy agent Starsauto, which sold Daewoo previously, will offer the Chevy Optra, a 1.6-litre sedan styled by Pininfarina, the Italian design house best known for its Ferraris. The Optra is called Daewoo Lacetti elsewhere. Asked why GM was replacing Daewoo with Chevrolet, its regional corporate communications manager Karen Goh said: 'Chevrolet is GM's largest brand, with over 3.6 million units sold last year. Chevrolet products are mainstream and GM's strategy is to make it the mainstream brand in the Asia Pacific.' In the Asia Pacific, the marque is used in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Japan and China. Veteran motoring columnist Winston Lee said: 'It's an astute marketing move. Chevrolet is a much more established brand; and it has more cachet than Daewoo.' Besides the Optra, there will be the Chevrolet Aveo hatchback (Daewoo Kalos), and Chevrolet Vivant recreational vehicle (Daewoo Tacuma). Ms Goh said GM will also showcase two high-end models: the Chevrolet Lumina, a 3.8-litre V6 sedan made by GM's Holden plant in Australia, which also has a 5.7-litre V8 coupe version. These will be made available later if there is 'sufficient demand'. None of the Chevys bound for Singapore will be made in America. Instead, they will be assembled in South Korea and Thailand. The Optra, for instance, will be made in GM's Rayong plant in Thailand. The plant also rolls out the Alfa Romeo 156 and Opel Zafira. Ms Goh said Starsauto, part of listed Wearnes International, will 'continue to provide after-sales service and support to Daewoo owners'. The Korean brand will continue to be sold in some markets.

  14. In an attempt to appease traditional owners, BMW is modifying its flagship 7-Series. A facelifted version is due later next year. The current 7-series is the work of BMW design chief Chris Bangle who has created some truly eye-catching models, including the new Z4. Although the modifications to the 7-Series are minor, the Munich-based marque hopes they will placate potential customers and dealers worldwide who disliked the front and rear-end design. Another target for criticism has been the iDrive system which can be used to operate the radio/TV, Sat-Nav, telephone and air-conditioning among other things. The system has already been reworked - and simplified - for the new 5-Series. The facelifted 7-Series will have a softer look. The most visible changes will be the new headlights and wider, more curved trademark twin-kidney grille. There will also be new bumpers front and rear. Published in the Irish Times 06 August 2003

  19. From CNN.com BMW's M division brand manager Tom Salkowski reported to the press today that his division has been working on a limited-production run of the world renowned E30 chassis M3 for a mid 2004 release as the "E30 M3". Salkowski told the press, "We wanted to bring back the car that made us famous," and "If it wasn't for the E30 M3, BMW would not be where it is today." One of the most successful touring cars of all time, the E30 M3 has been a cult car since it's introduction in Europe in 1986. Salkowski stressed that the car would be very close to the original, while being completely redesigned from the ground up. The interior and exterior will reflect the original in almost every detail. Salkowski noted "We wanted to make it a lightweight true to it's purpose race car that can be driven on the street." We are told the car will be motivated by an updated version of the car's original S14 engine, to be named the S16. "We wanted to keep it's character" Salkowski stated. He didn't go into details, but suggested that through the use of many of the new technologies in the current M engines and the new V12 in the 760 sedan, they have been able to get over 300 horsepower from this 2.5 liter 4 cylinder motor. Weighing under 2800 pounds, this car will be a real rocket, possibly the fastest vehicle BMW will have produced. The head of BMW's design division Chris Bangle noted that the design for the vehicle would be basically unaltered, with the same "quirky" lines and "boy-racer" look that keeps the car so original. "It was a unique process" Bangle said, "We had to work within the lines of this vehicle from the mid-eighties and update it without losing it's original look. Bangle, when asked about the criticism he has garnered from many of his recent designs, stated that it was not a redesign, just a freshening. The car will be unveiled this coming April at the New York International Auto Show to the anxiously awaiting public.
