  3. My battery kapoot only after 1 years & 2 months of usage. As it happens at ~ 6+, no choice but to call AA. However, they only have Hoppecke brand for my car model & retails at $250 (crazy man). Quickly drove to AV & only left with 1 shop that is open. Was recommended the Amaron DIN-66 (66Ah) MF battery at $135 (btw, the cheapest among the range of batteries he carries). Trying to search the web for details but couldn't find any? Is the price reasonable?
  4. After I installed my car alarm and in-car camera, I have been experiencing battery drain... basically from time to time if I do not drive the car for a few days, my battery may end up being fully discharged. This has happened a few times in the last few months already. Initially, I thought it was a battery issue but after having it checked at autobacs and also with a battery test device that I bought, I found the battery to still be working fine. I also thought it was because I seldom drive but recently I have been driving alot more and the situation still remains. I am now suspecting that the mechanic who connected the equipment to my car did not do a good job and had resulted in something being shorted inside thereby causing the drain. Is there any recommended workshop who is good with these things and can check out the connections done to my car, maybe with a multimeter to figure out if something is draining my battery away unnecessarily?
  5. Navicomtechnology quoted $180 for battery replacement for Nuvi 1460, where else can I get the battery replaced at a reasonably good price?
  6. I sometimes leave my car idling, with headlights on, a/c on and radio on for maybe 15 mins at a time. I am pretty sure that this is bad for my battery, but I am curious to know exactly how bad this is. Will it half my car battery lifespan if I do this frequently? I don't need my battery to last forever, but if I am only getting 1 year out of my 2 year lifespan battery, I might avoid doing this. I know some taxi drivers do it, and some people do it for sexy time at some deserted car park, so I'm guessing its not absolutely fatal. However, there are times where I am seriously sleepy at work and it would be nice to get some shut eye in my car in the carpark during lunch time. What if I take a nap in my car for an hour with a/c on? Pls share if you have practical experience with leaving your car idling for extended periods of time, and whether you have noticed this affecting your battery life.
  7. Here's how I changed the standard Honda Car Alarm Fob as shown in the picture. Mine's a Stream. I think it's the same for Civic, Jazz, City. Tools/Stuff Needed 1. 2.4mm Philip Screwdriver (from small screwdrivers sets commonly sold in home fix etc) 2. Replacement Battery - Energizer CR 1616. 3V. ($2.55 ea from NTUC, see picture) 3. Time <5mins to change Left to right A. Key Fob cover w/key; B. Key Fob cover; C. Electronics console battery holder ; D. console with buttons. E. top - screw; F. bottom - battery Steps. 1. Unscrew the screw securing the fob (E) 2. Pry open the Fob in two with a 5 cent coin using the indent (A + B) 3. Take out the electronic console (C+D) 4. Carefully pry open the 2 clasps holding the electronics console together. Taking care not to dislodge the rubber lining 5. Use a small flat screw driver to gently pry out the battery (original was Panasonic) 6. Replace the CR1616 with the new one with the positive end ( + ) facing down. Push it till click. 7. Close the console by securing the 2 clasps. 8. Test lock/unlock buttons and see if the LED light is lit. You can test to lock unlock your car if it's in range, it will work if properly done. 9. Place console in the fob cover with key 10. Close Cover 11. Screw the 2 cover together Additional steps, you may wish to clean the inside of the key cover. (I use photographic cleaning equipment - air spray, brush and tissue. No liquids) This whole process shouldn't take more than 5 mins (no cleaning). Hope this helps.
  8. Bro, Is it necessary to condition your battery for better performance? Read in a forum that once a month, allow the battery to drain below 20%, charge it up fully to 100% and leave it for 2 hours. But then read in another forum that discharging a Li-ion battery is harmful for the battery.
  9. Bro, Note 2 : Li-Ion 3100 mAh battery Note 1: Li-Ion 2500 mAh battery Are Galaxy Note and Note 2 battery interchangeable? Do they share the same battery?

  13. Bro, My Ipod Nano is losing its battery charge, where can I get the battery replaced at a reasonable price? Any bro here attempted a DIY battery replacement for IPod? where did you get the battery kit from? need soldering to the circuit board?
  14. Didn't know non-rechargeable alkaline batteries can be re-used with this charger. Anyone tried? It can re-activate dying rechargeable batteries too! http://tinyurl.com/groupon-charger
  15. Okay pls bear with me.. I changed my battery from a battery shop opposite the Quality hotel along Balestier Rd. The thing is I cannot remember the brand because its on the side of the battery which is blocked from view after installing. All I know is its a common brand they carry. I think its Indonesia made and come with 6mths warranty. So question is anyone know what brand or possible brands it is ? My apologies for the rather lame question...
  16. i noticed a couple of times my odyssey after parking the two front window dropped one inch. what is the cause of that? is it sign of battery dying? sorry if this sound very noob
  17. Does warranty cover note book battery?
  18. Went to RV to change my battery. Not a regular there (because don't like the oil they offer). Inspite being end of business day, they gave me good customer service, to the extent that when the new battery do not fit due to my car's quirky height restrictions, they brought me to another shop. The technician assigned follow through until the battery was replaced. RV was also professional when swapping batteries. Not just clip a spare battery to the terminals and change (which can accidentally dislodge while removing the terminals) On a side note, before I went RV, I was at another tyre shop and to my horrors, they just start my engine and remove my terminals. For old cars this is fine but I have not seen this method for donkey years. That shop also did not have the right battery size and wanted to cut away my terminal cover so that a recessed type battery can be used. I have to insist NO before they put back my old battery. Just to be clear, I am not in anyway affiliated with RV. Posting this because I thought helping me to find another shop and following through is something worth encouraging.
  19. Help, mine is dying and need to change soon.
  20. What's the cheapest way of testing battery health? I know for sure multimeter doesn't work. Yesterday was my second time with flat battery. I did 'feel' a slightly slower crank about a month ago and this time round I've decided to test the batt with multimeter religiously. And even when it went dead, it was registering about 12.2v and 11.9v with ignition turned to accessory. Both times I've monitored the indicators on the batteries. Two different brands. And they have obviously failed me. I'm aware of battery load testers but they don't come cheap. I am doubtful of those $20 battery health meters (cigarette plug style found in autobacs) - or do they work? I do carry jumper cables in the boot but I really dislike the idea of having to wait around for some kind soul to help. Are there any other ways to test?
  21. [extract] Envia Systems, a small battery company with investment from General Motors (GM), is working on new technology that could allow an electric car to travel up to 322km on a single charge within the next 2 to 4 years. That is about the distance between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Speaking at an employee meeting, GM
  22. Anyone knows of any brand of maintenance wet battery and preferred workshop to recommend? Just got tired of MF batteries which caught me by surprise and left me stranded at petrol kiosk and office car park a couple of times. Battery desulphators help a bit by prolonging the battery life but MF batteries still snapped me out the last time round. Correct me if I am wrong. Maintenance wet batteries do give tell tale signs of expiry. I suppose maintenance wet batteries last longer than MF batteries. Regular top up of battery water can be done by mechanic during servicing? I usually service my car in between 4-5 months per 10k mileage. Is that enough? Thanks and cheers!
  23. I made use of autobacs free battery test and obtained the detailed print out reports. Over time, you can see the CCA of my battery dropping. With bro KB's advice, I have determined that my alternator charging is ok, but CCA is on the low side after 2 years. but it is still rated as "good battery". Battery details: 55B24R Brand: Trane Silver Battery. Cost: $102+ Rated: 520CCA (but initial battery test shows 570 CCA - quite POWER imho) You can see the 3 battery test reports below. Read from left to right, 1st report July 2010, then Dec 2011, then July 2012. Most recent test on the right. Will wait for bro KB and other battery experts to comment on the reports. For sharing purposes and to learn how to read the reports! And Finally, Thanks Autobacs!!!

  25. I know that when jump start a car, or charge a battery without disconnecting the battery from the car, the positive should be connect to the positive terminal at the battery but negative should be connected to the chasis instead. Why isnt the negative not connected directly to the negative terminal instead? anyone care to explain??
