  1. Where can i buy and install Bosch Silver battery for a good price? Thanks.
  2. Anyone knows what the advantage and disadvantage on getting big Amp battery for the car
  3. How to Jump Start a Vehicle with a Dead Battery? A dead battery can be a bummer. It can also be a dangerous job jump starting it. Some do it differently. This is how I do it. Difficulty Level: average Time Required: 15 minutes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's How: Make sure both batteries are the same voltage. Bring the running vehicle up to the front of the dead vehicle. They must not tough. Make sure all emergency brakes are applied and all vehicles are in either park or neutral. Cover the cell caps with a rag. Do not cover the terminals. Put on some safety glasses. Get your jumper cables. Make sure they are good ones with no frays anywhere. Connect one red handle clamp of one end of the jumper cables to the positive side of the dead battery. Connect the black handle clamp of the same end of the jumper cables to a good ground besides the negative side of the good battery. An alternator bracket usually works well. Take the red handle clamp on the other end of the jumper cables and connect it to the positive side of the good battery. Connect the remaining black handle clamp to the negative side of the good battery. Start engine of starting vehicle. Start dead vehicle. If it does start right away rev up the running vehicle a little and just let it run for about ten minutes charging up the dead battery a little. Then try again. If this doesn't work charge the dead battery with a battery charger. You should do this slowly over night. If this doesn't work the dead battery probably needs to be replaced. Tips: Be careful not to cause a spark. This could make a battery blow up.
  4. DIY: How to Change Your Battery by Vincent Ciulla What you will need: An adjustable wrench or a socket wrench New battery Wire brush or battery terminal cleaner Clean water Safety glasses Rubber gloves (Optional) Can of Rust-O-Lieum primer White Lithium Grease Why replace your battery? A good battery is essential to the proper operation of your vehicle. A good battery can last for about five years with the proper care. Battery failure can occur in as little as three years in very hot or cold climates since these conditions take a heavy toll on your vehicles battery. Some cause of premature battery failure are overcharging, undercharging, abuse, or vibration. Modern vehicle computer systems create a small but constant drain on batteries, even when the vehicle is parked, long sitting periods can cause a vehicle's battery to go dead and need a charge. At some point, your battery will need to be replaced. This is usually a simple task, but sometimes they can be difficult do to severe corrosion. If your battery looks like it's going to be very difficult, take it to a professional and have them replace it. Get the correct battery for your car. Check with your local auto parts store for the correct type and size. It is a good idea to bring your old battery in to be sure you get the correct replacement, and you can leave it there to be recycled. Make sure your new battery is fully charged. It's always a good idea to wear safety glasses when changing your battery. I wear a pair of latex examination gloves, exactly like your Doctor uses, to help keep my hands clean and protect them from battery acid. You can buy them at the auto parts store. WORK IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA AWAY FROM SPARKS OR OPEN FLAMES. DO NOT SMOKE. Disconnect the negative cable first and then disconnect the positive cable. Remove the battery hold down. It may be along the top of the battery or on the battery tray clamped to the side of the battery. Once it is free, carefully lift it up and out of the tray. BATTERY'S CONTAIN SULFURIC ACID AND IT CAN BURN YOUR SKIN. IT IS VERY CORROSIVE TO ANYTHING IT COMES IN CONTACT WITH. Look at the battery tray. If there are signs of rust and corrosion, clean it off with plenty of clear water. Allow the tray to dry and spray it with the primer to prevent further deterioration. Place the new battery in the tray and reinstall the hold down clamp. If you have a top terminal battery, clean the inside of the cables with a battery brush and wire brush the battery posts. If you have a side terminal battery, clean the terminals with the wire brush. Check and make sure there is no corrosion on the battery cables. Clean them as required. Reattach the positive battery cable first and then the negative battery cable. Tighten the tight but on side terminal batteries do not over tighten. You can pull the side post out of the battery if you over tighten them. Give the terminals a good coating of White Lithium Grease to keep them from getting corroded. Start the engine and you're done. This is a quick and easy job that should take 30 to 45 minutes.
  5. I HAVE DIFFICULTY FINDING INFO ON CAR MAINTENANCE HOPE THIS HELPS OTHER CAR ENTHUSIAST HERE ALSO Battery Testing, Maintenance And Myths 1. Storing a battery on a concrete floor will discharge them. A hundred years ago battery cases were made of porous materials such as tar-lined wood boxes, so storing batteries on a concrete floor would accelerate their discharge. Modern battery cases are made of polypropylene or hard rubber. These cases seal better, so external leakage-causing discharge is no longer a problem, provided the top of the battery is clean. 2. Driving a car will fully recharge a battery. There are a number of factors affecting an alternator's ability to charge a battery, such as how much current from the alternator is diverted to the battery to charge it, how long the current is available, and the temperature. Generally, idling the engine or short stop-and-go trips during bad weather or at night might not fully recharge the battery. 3. A battery will not explode. There two types of battery explosions are external and internal. Recharging a wet lead-acid battery produces hydrogen and oxygen gasses. While spark retarding vent caps help prevent external battery explosions, sparks occur when jumping, connecting or disconnecting charger, or battery cables and ignite the gas. Internal explosions usually occur while starting the engine and normally blow the filler caps or cover off and splatter electrolyte all over the engine compartment. The most probable cause is from a combination of low electrolyte levels in the battery and a low resistance bridge formed between or across the top of the plates called "treeing" between a positive and negative plate. When heavy current flows in the battery such as starting an engine, a spark occurs and ignites the residual gas in one or more of the cells. A second possible cause is a defect in the weld of one of the plate connecting straps. Periodic preventive, working on batteries in well-ventilated areas, or using sealed AGM or gel cell VRLA type batteries can significantly reduce the possibility of battery explosions. To neutralize the residual battery acid, be sure to thoroughly wash the engine compartment and the back of the hood with a solution of one-pound baking soda to one gallon of warm water and rinse with water. The largest number of battery explosions, while starting an engine or drawing a high current, occurs in hot climates. While not fatal, battery explosions cause thousands of eye and burn injuries each year. Should a battery explosion occur and electrolyte (battery acid) get in someones' eyes, immediately flush them out with ANY drinkable liquid because seconds count. 4. A battery will not lose its charge sitting in storage. Depending on the type of battery and temperature, batteries have a natural self-discharge or internal electro chemical "leakage" at a 1% to 25% rate per month. Over time the battery will become sulfated and fully discharged. Higher temperatures accelerate this process. A battery stored at 95
  6. If I want to on Aircon for lets say 5hrs. Then I on engine and just let it idle there.. Yes, will eat up fuel, but will battery die? I tot car din move means no charge? Or as long as engine on, battery will be charged? Cuz I arguing with my father.. =X.. Lolz..
  7. Hi all, I will be sending my vios in for the 20k servicing soon. Since the warranty covers battery for 2 years and my ride is almost 2 years now, is it advisable to request for a new battery since its FOC? What is the usual lifespan of a battery? If it is short, then I better tell them that battery is "faulty" and ask for a change during this servicing... Thanks in advance!
  8. Just collected my Latio. Do I have to go to the pump station to check for air pressure. How often do I have to check? How about battery water? how often do I have to check?
  9. As above.. My stock car battery is near one year liao.. heard that should change after one year.. Any bros and sis here know any lobang ? BTW any conventional methods to diagnose weak battery ? Thanks !
  10. I was at a petrol station this morning and notice some calcium maintenance free sealed battery displayed at the tyre shop. Any bros here have experience with this type of battery? Is it as durable and long-lasting as a normal battery? How long can it be expected to last?
  11. Hi guys. See attached picture. I have a new 3 mth old varta silver battery has these weird porous white substance on the negative terminal. With that, the car is dead! This car clocked 20km a day and did 1000km in 3 mths. Seems too short live for a battery? Any idea whats that porous stuff is and what is causing that? And how to know if the battery totally dead or not? thx.
  12. Hi all Just got back from a 11 day holiday....could not start the car as the battery was completely dry.As my car is only 2mth old with warrantee... 13. Hi Guys, Anybody knows which Varta Asia Dynamic highest capacity battery could fit inside a Nissan Sunny FL and where the price is reasonable. Thanks!
  14. Bros.. How to disconnect batt? Cause as said earlier, going perth for 11 days from this sunday night... So. thought of disconnecting battery from cefiro to prevent draining? And also, how many days period must start once? So i can ask my bro in law help start.. hehee THANKS!
  15. car battery dead at vivocity, I called Komoco helpline, $141.85 to come down and change the battery. I called my insurance (China Insurance) breakdown service agent - K Kim Hin, fast and efficient, only $90, why the difference of $50? Was thinking, when my car hit 40k and since its over 3yrs liao, shall i send outside for servicing instead of going back to Komoco? Thanks.
  16. Like to check any bro here do a battery relocation to rear before? How many gauge cable you all used for the main line? I currently using 4 gauge cable, is that enough? Apart from that, I put a fuse near the batt. The fuse will blown sometime when I crank the car. How much value of the fuse should I put? Even I use ANL 150A fuse also blown. Is there any problem?
  17. As per subject title (actually, my voltmeter is more for looks ) Any advice? my car battery is maintenance-free type, original just over 1.5 years old... always got phobia that it will die on me but everything seems to work fine. When i turn ignition thru' 1st 2 clicks before engine start, the voltmeter reading can be around 11V only though...
  18. Twice this week, I've difficulties starting the car ... The battery is ~2yr 3mths old and had never given me any problem starting. Normally single crank will get the car going. For that 2 occasions, I've to crank 3 times to start the car! Does that mean that my battery going to die very soon ? Don't want to be caught in a situation where I am strandled with a dead battery !
  19. hi all, Just had my battery changed 3 weeks ago. Got the car jump started. Of course, there are techniques to jump start (explaination below), got it started and drove to Autobac, bought a slightly bigger size battery(explained below too) for S$100 (before 10% discount, saw one at S$69 before) went back to office and fit it myself, easily, of course I was told later that Autobac does it for S$3 only... silly me. Jump Start; Same CC cars - generally Jap models has smaller AH (Ampere Hour than continental 45 VS 55 AH), hence, look for a similar Continental or bigger Japanese to help. Similar means, for our car is between 55 to 62AH, connect positive to positive and negative to negative, guess you already know that. Larger vehicles like pick-up, usually about up to 72AH, then you have to, ground it to the chassis with the negative, or it will short your ECU. Next is, know your car and the life span of battery. Maintenance free, they are like rechargable batteries, just die on you like yes or no, usually last between 12 to 15 months and Maintenance last about 18 to 24 months...I use a higher AH one to help the battery to last a little longer ( my mother in law had this problem this morning, her battery lasted since May 2002). Our car need 55AH to start up, I bought one that is 60AH, then if the battery is dying, it has a range before it fail, and I can tell it is dying(starting is draggy) when it is between 60 to 55AH. Selecting a battery, you must know (looking at the battery from the car front) a. The positive is whether left or right. b. Size of battery (Octavia is 55AH) c. Holder (can use up to 60AH), held on by the bottom, most Japanese has a bar across. While changing the battery, always do this, take the positive out then negative, while putting back, negative then positive. For Octavia, remove the casing by depressing the side, there are one button on each sides. Flip the fuses to the back. There is a bolt at the bottom of the holder, which holds the battery, unscrew it and shift the battery forward. Reverse the process for fixing back..That's it. When around the expiry period, keep one on standby and change it when you need it. Ivan
  20. Just come across this latest info from a battery charger maker. Hope this info will be of use epecially to those who are going to purchase new vehicles from Europe. Will update when more info are make available. =============================================================== Special Battery Chargers for the Latest Calcium/Calcium Batteries New cars are increasingly being delivered with batteries using the latest calcium/calcium technology that demands a completely different form of battery charger. Proven in America from the late 1970s, the new batteries are needed to match the ever-increasing electronic and electrical demands of modern vehicles. They new batteries also have the added benefit of longer shelf life while awaiting delivery. However due to the construction of a calcium/calcium battery being different from lead acid ones, replacements must be of the same type since vehicles using them have a smart charging system. A smart system is also required when charging calcium/calcium batteries out of the vehicle. Ordinary battery chargers can
  21. After I TA the vocal to be on the center of the dashboard. Sometime of the day, it'll be slightly more right or slightly more left. Sometime smack right in the center.. Please note that i'm using the same CD and same track also. Could it be due to battery voltage? Could it be air con drawing more power in the afternoon comparing to at night? If so, will a VS help?
  22. hi guys, just wanna know whether our car battery (mine change to 55amp)can tahan if i have ICE(with cap),guages, rsm, neon lights..etc...quite alot of eletronic devices. pls advise thanks

  25. Hi there, Last night my ride (Mazda 2) while stationary at the traffic light, the RPM fluxuated slightly from 3/4 mark to 1/2 mark on the RPM gauge... The lights on dashboard dimmed slightly and my voltage gauge needle was swinging left and right... Wonder if this might be the start of battery failure???? Anyway, when I had reached my destination and parked, the RPM remained stable... Cannot replicate the fault... Not even this morning while driving and at my mechanic... Well, had my battery replaced as a safe measure and for peace of mind (Since it's used for 1 year and 4 months already)... Changed to Dynamics 45AMP at $70.20 (with 10% discount) and now the RPM is very stable... Any idea if it's due to a weakening battery or might there be some other faults that I need to look out for??? Like maybe spark plug? (Not likely as my mech told me that if spark plug, car will be jerking) or maybe aircon cutting in and causing this problem??? Mooooooooooooo
