  2. Man loses $910,000 lottery card suit against Singapore Pools 28 March 2012 Straits Times A man who sued Singapore Pools, demanding prize money of $910,000 on lottery cards he had bought, lost his case in the High Court on Tuesday. Mr John Berchmans had bought 91 Scratchit! cards for a dollar each, and his winnings amounted to $263. But he claimed that he had been misled into buying the cards because he took the words on them to mean that he would automatically win the top prize of $10,000 if he got three identical symbols in a row. The 69-year-old part-time housing agent lost the gamble when the High Court on Tuesday dismissed his misrepresentation suit against the lottery operator and ordered him to pay costs.

  7. Any bros watched the HK movie 窃听风云 (OVERHEARD) starring 古天乐 Louis Koo? Am no IT/surveillance expert and thought the part where they claimed they were able to eavesdrop via our smart phones to any conversation near to it as long they get hold of the phone number was some fantasy until I read this article. So the next time you wanted to about your boss or company in the office to your co-workers, think twice... [sweatdrop] From ST Sunday Times: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_773579.html Office gadget spyware gaining in popularity Published on Mar 4, 2012 By Siau Ming En The spy mouse, modified from an ordinary one, takes a SIM card. It requires only a phone call to activate it and all sounds within a 10m radius can then be heard. -- PHOTOS: COURTESY OF SGSPYCAM.COM Here's a reason for you to watch what you say at work: That innocent-looking mouse on your desk could be transmitting your conversations to your boss. Same with the thumbdrive. Spyware has made its way into offices, and it has gone beyond hidden cameras. The 'spy mouse', a modified version of the ordinary gadget, becomes a listening device with an embedded SIM card. All it takes is a phone call to that number to activate it. All sounds and conversations within a 10m radius of the mouse can then be heard by the caller. BACKGROUND STORY While there are no privacy laws in Singapore, a spyware user could breach encompassing laws, such as that regarding confidence. 'If confidential information is accessed without permission, by improper acquisition, then the courts may protect such information,' said Mr Bryan Tan of Keystone Law Corporation. Sellers say there is a healthy market for such spy equipment.
  8. Hi all! Hope to get advice on claiming windscreen damage insurance. Just noticed a 1 cm crack but wonder if it is enough to initiate a claim. Just want to arm myself with some advice before I call up the insurance company as the policy doesn't state how bad's the damage before claim is allowed. Thanks.

  18. Yep thanks to this fare "revision", our doc here is now determined to get a car ASAP because of "unreliable" cab service... If more folks are using this excuse than we just have to be contented with our little red dot being a giant car park during peak hours... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_742416.html REVISION IN TAXI FARES Service should improve before charges are increased Published on Dec 8, 2011 LET me cite my experience last week to illustrate the unjustified cab fare revisions initiated by ComfortDelGro without a preceding improvement in service standards ('Other taxi firms set to revise fares too'; yesterday). Last Saturday, I tried to book a MaxiCab for five (four adults and a baby with a car seat) from ComfortDelGro. It took 10 dropped calls and an hour to finally get an answer. Having secured the first MaxiCab, we tried to book a return one, for which we were assured by ComfortDelGro that we would get an SMS confirmation. We were very willing to pay the required advance booking fee of $16. We received the SMS for the first cab immediately, but it took three hours to receive a rejection for the second. By then, we were in a rush to get to the airport as two people in our group had to catch their flight to Canada. So we decided to book two normal cabs instead. However, we managed to secure only one after about half an hour of trying (via the iPhone app and calling) and received no reply on the second. We even tried flagging ComfortDelGro cabs - to no avail. The experience left us anxious and irritated. We were highly inconvenienced by the shoddy and unprofessional service. Our Canadian guests could not understand why it was so difficult to book a taxi, whereas everything else seemed to work well in Singapore. The fare revision makes no sense in the light of such poor service. Cab operators should improve service or keep the fares low. We understand that Singapore has more taxis than many other major cities, but the service is much poorer. Now, we are even more determined to buy a car as soon as possible because we cannot continue being plagued by unreliable service. Dr Karthik Kumar

  22. This morning, I was caught in a traffic jam caused by a fatal accident. The exact location is a bridge linking Geylang Road to Kallang Road, just before the ERP gantry. Saw a blue tent on the extreme left lane, which tells me there has been a fatality. The accident vehicle was a small truck, which was on the extreme right lane. An old lady was sitting on the kerb. Two TP cars and three bikes were already there. Then a Police van arrived, presumably with investigators. Anyone saw it?

  24. I went out with a bunch of old pals today. One of them revealed something extremely bizarre. This friend of mine is divorced for almost 10 yrs, he is practically a good dad because for the past 10 yrs his been taking care of the kids (school allowances, daily expenses, meals, weekly outings - every week for the past 10 yrs). Recently he accompanied his daughter for a full body checkup (required by school) and at the same time itchy backside went to take a DNA sampling test together with the full body checkup. Results came out 1 week later that the match is negative!! So meaning this chap is actually a cuckold feeding for someone else's child?? He sounded very sad when he revealed all these but still cant bear to leave "his" daughter since they been together for almost 16yrs! Life can be pretty simple and confusing at times. What would you do if something like this happens to you?? Would you leave them or continue?? One thing for sure is i will stop paying alimony!
