  1. World War II fighter pilot reincarnated Give it a read.
  2. Looking at oil pricing rally, I believe it should be soon before our ever sensitive petrol provider adjust upwards again... - light sweet crude for October delivery, settled at 74.37 dollars a barrel - Brent North Sea crude for October climbed seven cents to close at 74.19 dollars
  3. Too many silly car owners on the road lately hogging 1st lane going at 70-80km/h way below the speed limit of the expressway. In the rain they can even use the 1st lane at 50km/h!!!! If there is a minimum speed limit.... 1) There will be no congestion and BRAKING on the 1st lane! 2) It will keep SLOW cautious drivers off the 1st lane when it is raining so it will not block the way of faster cars. 3) No commercial vehicles will be using the lane at all times to slow us down. 4) Then people with itchy backside wanna drive so slow because they have alot of time, no need to use expressway at all. I've seen cars going at 40-60km/h on expressways, they are really blocking the way for everybody and creating jams. I was once on the AYE there was slow traffic at Clementi and in lane 1,2,3,4 was only going at 60km/h and i zig zagged.... guess what i found? On the 1st lane near Alexander a nissan sunny driven by an aunty was drive at 60km/h on the 1st lane.... infront of the car the road was CLEAR!!!!!! In lane 3 and 4 is slow becos of commercial vehicles.... then in lane 2 cars going so slow as usual. I was behind her... I horned and flashed.... other drivers did it too... but she din move.... so i tried to cut into her lane leaving a very little margin to scare her off, no reaction.... I hope someone in this forum who knows this aunty can educate her.
  4. I don't. But i know a friend who recently went to KL and met this indian fortune teller, who keeps some very old looking leaves. On the leaves are many tiny word carvings . The indian fortune teller then took out a leaf which purportedly belong to my friend's history and future. From it, the fortune teller actually can tell things about her, like what is her parents name, her birthdate, her personal history etc. According to the fortune teller, her future ss already written on the leaves, like her future husband will be a chinese (but she likes non-chinese men though she is chinese herself and asked the fortune teller), and what age she will marry. How can this be true ? Is it really some well plan con-job or really the leaves is so fascinating ? Now she is going back to see him again next weekend. I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks.
  5. My car is grey, so is my life.... Plan to turn it into cherry red, a.k.a ang-pow on wheels.
  6. Govt help should go only to deserving I REFER to Tuesday's letter by Mr George Pasqual, 'Why Singaporeans must come first'. I do not subscribe to his view. Many young and able-bodied Singaporeans who are spoilt and unemployed have not contributed as much to the economy as their foreign counterparts and should not be given government handouts. Many of these young Singaporeans are mollycoddled by their affluent parents and do not suffer at all. They are choosy about jobs. Their expectations are unrealistic. They shun low-paying jobs that entail working long hours in unpleasant conditions, unlike their foreign counterparts who work day and night for a pittance. Many Singaporeans can still afford to stay home in comfort to wait out the economic downturn. Given a choice, many would not even do national service. The Government should give financial help to only the deserving ones, regardless of whether they are permanent residents or not. Chan Weng Kei --- OI MR CHAN! You want to try digging trenches for days at 60 cents an hr?!!! @@#@%^
  7. WHEN pricing an HDB flat, costs are not taken into account. Its price is based on what the flat is worth at the point of purchase. Calling it a market-based approach, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan said it was the fairest way of pricing new flats. 'It reflects what the flat is worth at the point of purchase, which may have no relation to what it cost to build,' he added. Mr Mah gave this response in Parliament yesterday to Mr Liang Eng Hwa (Holland-Bukit Panjang GRC) who had asked if the Government would consider pricing flats according to costs. The minister also said that as the HDB did not take into account costs, its building programme suffered losses of $530 million a year over the last three years. Mr Mah said a typical four-room flat in Sengkang costs more than $300,000 to build. This is above the $200,000 to $260,000 price at which HDB sells it. He noted that there were concerns over the high prices of premium flats like the Pinnacle@Duxton, with prices ranging from $457,000 to $645,000. But the prices reflected the value of the flats, which are located in Tanjong Pagar. For every one unit on sale, seven people want to buy it, said Mr Mah. It shows people are willing to pay for flats with good value, he added. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking+News/...ory_303979.html
  8. 'Meh': new word for indifference enters English dictionary Posted Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:42am AEDT "Meh", a word which indicates a lack of interest or enthusiasm, has become the latest addition to the Collins English Dictionary. The word, which beat hundreds of other suggestions from members of the public, will feature in the 30th anniversary edition of the dictionary, which is to be published next year. Though the word apparently originates from North America, Collins said it was now widely used on the Internet, and was increasingly seen in British spoken English. The dictionary entry for "meh" will say it can be used as an interjection to indicate indifference or boredom, as an adjective to describe something as boring or mediocre, or to show an individual is apathetic or unimpressed. The word was popularised by the US comedy animation series "The Simpsons", where characters Bart and Lisa use it to express indifference when their father Homer suggests a day trip. It was submitted by Erin Whyte from Nottingham, central England, and a panel of Collins language experts singled it out from the hundreds of other submissions because of its frequency of use in modern English. "This is a new interjection from the US that seems to have inveigled its way into common speech over here," said Cormac McKeown, head of content at Collins Dictionaries. "It shows people are increasingly writing in a register somewhere in between spoken and written English." Other words submitted to Collins's campaign - which was launched in June and called on members of the public to suggest words they used in everyday English - were jargonaut (a fan of jargon); frenemy (an enemy disguised as a friend) and huggles (a hybrid of hugs and snuggles). - AFP

  10. As reported in CNA : 44% of Singapore parents believe their babies have sleep problem By Greta Georges, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 02 October SINGAPORE: An international study has found that 44 per cent of Singapore parents believe their babies have a sleep problem, while in Caucasian countries, less than one quarter feel the same way. A study of over 1,000 local infants shows their average bedtime is at 9.38pm, compared to those in predominantly Caucasian countries, who sleep at 8.51pm. But Singapore babies are early risers - waking up at 6am, earlier than babies anywhere else. This means they get 40 minutes less sleep a day than their Caucasian counterparts, after factoring in daytime naps. Paediatrics professor from the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr Jodi Mindell, suggests three golden rules. She said, "We want parents to be putting their babies to bed early, we want them having a bedtime routine and we want them to help their babies fall asleep independently." And this means not rocking or nursing babies to sleep, even when they wake up at night, so they will learn to fall asleep on their own. Dr Mindell said, "We found that 3 out of 4 babies in Singapore are sleeping in their parents' room, though not all are sleeping in their parents' bed. Those babies who fall asleep independently, no matter in their parents' bed or a separate room, are going to sleep better at night." Dr Mindell is the leader of a global study by the Asia Pacific Paediatric Sleep Alliance and Johnson & Johnson. Sleep is a natural biological need and is especially important for babies in their formative first years, and babies may get cranky, irritable and accident prone if they do not get enough sleep. Establishing a bedtime routine goes a long way, say experts. Bathing, massaging or reading and cuddling can help babies stay 20 per cent longer in continuous sleep and help cut babies' night awakenings by half. Hmmm....... something to ponder about....... Our babies have sleep problems.......
  11. Prediction of the coming Disaster Mr. Juseleeno, born in 1960(reportedly still alive in 2008), is a Brazilian who has made many predictions, and MOST have come to pass, including Princess Diana's death by car accident (which is instigated by someone near her and will probably unfortunately be written off as a car accident), 911 and the 2004 Indonesian tsunami. He sees the future in his dreams, and has an average of 3 to 9 such predictions per day. When he wakes up, he will write them down, and send warnings to those concerned. If it concerns only a normal individual, he will write a letter to warn him/her. If it is a famous person(celebrity, politician etc.), or matters concerning the public, he will not only send it to the individual himself/herself, but also related agencies, government, and media. He urged the media to publicise these predictions, but the reply always went along the lines of rejection for fear of arousing public panic. Future predictions: 2008, July: There will be an earthquake in Japan , which will cause a tsunami of 30 plus metres high to occur as well. 2008, 18th September: An earthquake with magnitude of approximately 9.1 will rock China , simultaneously causing a tsunami of more than 30 metres to occur, resulting in the deaths of more than 1 million people. Although this huge earthquake will happen after the Olympics have ended, there will be a series of relatively smaller earthquakes occurring in China before the huge earthquake. The China government, which is more concerned with the success of the Olympics, will most likely neglect to employ appropriate cautionary measures, thus the high casualty rate. If the China government does not publicise the occurrence of these minor earthquakes and evacuate people, the number of deaths will be as predicted. 2008, 17th December: terrorist attack in America 2010: The temperatures in some countries of Africa could be as high as 58 degrees Celsius, and there will be a serious shortage of water. 2010, 15th June: The New York Stock Exchange market will fail, causing an international financial crisis. 2011: The research on the treatment of some cancers will be completed, but a new life-threatening virus will appear. People who are infected will die after only approx. 4 hours of coming into contact with the virus. 2013, 1st - 25th November: Research on treatment of cancers, except for brain tumors, will be completed. An earthquake, caused by volcanic eruptions, will happen on Bahama Island of the Canary Islands . A gigantic tsunami of roughly 150 metres will result. America mainlands, Brazil etc.will be affected, with the tsunami pushing into the land as far as 15 to 20 kilometres. Before the occurrence of this gigantic tsunami, the sea/ocean water levels will sink by about 6 metres, and large flocks of birds will start to migrate. 2014: A small planet that has been gradually closing in on Earth might eventually collide with Earth, and this collision, if come to pass, will affect the survival of humans as a whole. 2015: By the mid of November, the average temperature of Earth could be as high as 59 degrees Celsius. Many people will die from the overheat, and international confusion and terror ensues. 2016, April: A huge typhoon will invade China , causing massive damage. The 43rd USA president, George Walker Bush, will enter the hospital, and faces a life or death situation. 2026, July: A super earthquake will occur in Sans Francisco, and it will be named "The Big One". Huge damage to surrounding areas. Many volcanoes will re-activate, and the height of resulting tsunami will be more than 150 metres. Mr. Juseleeno made known his predictions in hopes that people will take heed of his warnings, so that these disasters may be avoided. He hopes there will be a major change in the thinking of people's mindsets in the time period 2007 - 2008. One factor will be the environmental issue of global warming, which is more serious than what some meteorologists assume.

When the credit-crisis began to unfold last year, they rushed to the aid of Western banks providing some $US50 billion of equity and mandatory convertibles. Now, these look to be terrible investments. The weighted average of the shares is down by 40 per cent, according to a breakingviews calculation. The worst performer would have been China

  16. I was wondering whether you guys do multiple layers for your sealants or waxes. I realised that no matter how many layers of sealant you apply, the slick and thick feel will surely disappear after a super HEAVY downpour. When I ran my fingers across the paintwork, the paint feeling became very thin and not slick the least bit. So I decided to just AIO and wack one layer of sealant like Klasse or 2180. After the rain, the feeling is the same as compared to 3-4 layers of whatever protection. I always thought that layering and layering will give a super thick gloss and protection but the bloody rain so powerful can wash off everything damn it! What you guys think? Polik kings Maddriver? Coltagious?

  19. Yeh ... my bro-in-law might have some hanky panky going on ... and he's in his 7 year marriage with my sis-in-law. My wife and her sisters very stressed and bothered by it .... How many of you actually encountered it to you yourself but managed to get away with it after a while? Care to share the escapade trick. I see what I can do to advise her to cope with the insecurities. I believe my bro-in-law is having those 'noti' thoughts only and not serious as to break the family up.

  22. Feb 16, 2007 Revenue from ERP 20% lower than in previous scheme, says minister By Lynn Lee ELECTRONIC Road Pricing was not introduced to generate revenue, Transport Minister Raymond Lim said yesterday. It actually rakes in less than the Area Licensing Scheme (ALS), the previous plan to manage peak-hour traffic. He was responding to opposition MP Low Thia Khiang (Hougang), who said motorists feel they are being 'squeezed' by having to pay to use expressways and yet still face jams. Mr Lim did not cite figures, but said revenue collected from ERP, which was introduced in 1998, is about 20 per cent less than under the ALS, when motorists bought and displayed tickets to enter the Central Business District during peak hours. Mr Low spoke on the issue after Non-Constituency MP Sylvia Lim, also from the Workers' Party, asked about the effectiveness of ERP in easing congestion on the Central Expressway (CTE). Both said their comments reflect feedback from motorists. Ms Lim said ERP rates do little to deter motorists from using expressways, even when rates are hiked. Passenger cars now pay between 50 cents and $4 since the latest increase last week . She was concerned about the CTE, which is now the costliest road to use. Mr Lim explained that ERP is not the only way to manage traffic flow, but the most 'direct' way of doing it. 'There's no silver bullet to it,' he said of dealing with traffic congestion. 'We have all these measures and we have to keep on adjusting, all the time.' As for the CTE, ERP keeps average speeds there within an 'optimal' range of 45 to 65kmh during morning and evening peak periods. If the ERP had not been put in place in the evening, he said, average speeds would have slowed to well below 25kmh, leading to a possible gridlock. Other measures are being taken to ease CTE congestion, he said, referring to work to widen a 2km section between Ang Mo Kio avenues 1 and 3. Ms Lim said motorists who pay to use the northbound CTE in the evening are 'cheesed off' as they still encounter jams. This is because drivers who use alternative routes rejoin the expressway from Ang Mo Kio avenues 1 and 3. MPs laughed when Minister Lim asked if Ms Lim was asking for more gantries. He said the situation will be monitored and major access points taken into account.

It happened on TPE towards SLE abt today 2pm, I was driving same diraction following a Accord about 90 to 100km/h at lane 1 , I found a small blue dot on my rear mirror, only after a few seconds the blue dot become a big blue altis in my rear mirror , OMD less than 2 meters to my bottom , I switched to lane 2 immediately, then the altis rushed to Accord's bottom, Accord didn't give way, Altis further closed to Accord and space less than 1 meter , suddenly Accord speeded up and drew the space to abt 5 meters, but altis speeded up too and bite accord's bottom again, I felt something was going on, switched to lane again to follow the altis see what would happen, but they were too fast near 130km/h, I gave up and after a while they disappeared from my sight... Great Altis
