  1. In a few weeks the Geneva Car Show will open its gates, but today we can show you the first photos of a car that
  2. Driving a Toyota with COE expiring soon... Have started shopping for a replacement car few months back but to no avail. Have also read postings of some cars shared in this forum. The more I read, the more I'm at a loss. No car seems to have a perfect fit into the so-called "ideal" car. Hence, hope the forumers here could help to shortlist a car that best fits the following criteria: a) From AD only b) Budget - Not more than $160k c) Type - 4-door sedan preferred (will also consider SUV) d) Make - Continental or Japanese e) Capacity - Between 1400cc and 1600cc f) FC - No less than 12 km/ ltr (highway 60% + urban 40%) g) Output - Prefer a powerful sedan (no lag up slope eg. Novena Square/ Ngee Ann City multi-storey car park when fully packed with passengers) h) Reliability which can last for 10 years with no major hiccups like gear box problem, oil leaks, overheating, etc. (normal wear and tear ok) i) Servicing/ maintenance costs (by AD or credible workshops) - Not more than $15k over the 10 years ownership Understand Toyota will be a value-for-money option but this time round, hope to try something different. Certainly appreciate constructive suggestions as I would like to complete the purchase by this year. No flaming please. Thanks lots!
  3. Does anyone knows why in general an used C200 is same or higher price than a E200 based on similar registration date? C200 has much lower OMV too.
  4. Guys, pls advise if there are any local Mercedes Benz forums out there?
  5. saw this tonight ... a w211 chassis with a pretty large spoiler. would have taken a few closer pics but driver was in car getting ready to go (i think). didnt seem like an AMG car from the sound of it though. this is probably the second time i have seen a spoiler this big on an e-class chassis though ... not making fun of the guy, just surprised by the mod. anyone know about this car?
  6. Hey guys, Thinking of buying a new PI/ C&C Merc? Second hand? Unsure of how old really your car is? Whether the colour has been changed? Whether any parts have been retrofitted? Whether the leather is original Well dont worry because im providing a service. For a simple $15 I can provide you with a detailed print out / PDF of the vehicle you wish to check out. All i need is the chassis (VIN number) number and I can tell you when the vehicle was delivered to the port Whats the engine model number etc etc. What functions it came with What the owner changed. This is very important for prospective buyers Alot of not so upright dealers import elegance/classic variants and then "upgrade" to avant garde by just changing the grille and badging! Some unscrupulous ones even change the trim such that you cant tell unless you were to do a background check! Of course they dont change the internals for you! Others locally fit the AMG kit and then charge you for it! How else can you find out without guessing at the OMV?? Even for current owners dont worry because your vehicle may have some features that others dont. I can check any model for you from MB SBS bus to UNIMOG to W204,W212,W207 etc..
  7. It seems that the people at Mercedes-benz Europe are pretty creative when it comes to producing the company's latest commercial for their new van, the Vito. Cunningly titled Dirty Driving, the video stars its recently released 577bhp, 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo S63 AMG Coupe and its Actros semi truck. The pair is seen checking each other out and eventually makes out after some very 'intimate' moments. Don't worry, while the whole clip is very much safe for work (and for kids) to watch, I must say it is pretty suggestive and clear about what the ad is trying to get across. For those of you who can't get enough of the ad, there is even a censored and a bondage version. Hmmmm..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTIfjxNHEPw
  8. Can't afford a Zonda but still want that V12 shriek? No worries, a late 90's Mercedes-Benz S600, SL600 or CL600 and some nice exhaust will solve your problem nicely. For those who know their Mercedes stuff well, you will probably know that the Zonda C12, uses the same unfettled 6.0-litre M120 engine that was found in these large cars from Mercedes. Or there is also the smaller but newer M137 5.8-litre ones that came after the M120. However, I am not sure if there are any such variants left around locally. Anyone seen an early W220 S600 lately? Anyway, if you do happen to have a S/CL/SL600 with you, then get onto Techincal Garage Sasaki's Facebook page and drop them a message saying you want one of their custom made exhaust systems. It comprises of a equal length manifold, front pipe with racing catalytic converter and a centre pipe. Of course it will not be cheap. Nearly $S12,000 to be exact. So is it worth it? Listen for yourself! http://dai.ly/x22n0uc_full-original-exhaust_auto
  9. Mercedes-Benz has been teasing about its new GT sports car for a while now. While it hasn't let the cat out of the bag yet, the marque continues to taunt with a video showing off the soundtrack from the next-gen 4.0-litre V8 engine. Conceived to replace the SLS, the new GT will be smaller in dimensions and more 'affordable' than the outgoing model. Likewise, the engine will also be shrunk - from a 6.2-litre V8 to a 4.0-litre V8 unit. The people at Mercedes-AMG, has however, assured us that the new block will be as great-sounding as the previous - if not more. The new engine will also feature a total of four driving modes, each with its own distinctive sound signature. http://dai.ly/x21u61t
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFNwdi2-BGg More recently, Mercedes-Benz has released a number of innovative advertisements, such as celebrating Christmas in the SLS and the use of a hen to demonstrate its clever 'Magic Body Control'. Now it seems that it has found another animal to star to showcase just one of the CLA's many capabilities.
  11. I have always wondered if a Mitsubishi Evolution owner wants to upgrade to another All-Wheel Drive (AWD) sedan which uses forced induction, what would he get? Unless I am mistaken, there are not many options other than the current Audi S4/S6 sedans. Fortunately, AMG has provided another option with its CLA 45 AMG. With one of the highest specific outputs of any road car, the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine in the CLA 45 has helped it to be one of the most effective point-and-shoot weapons on the road in any weather. The engine, which is the highlight of the car for me, has minimal lag and pulls strongly all the way to the red line unlike most turbocharged cars. It sounds pretty good at the top of the range too, although it will not be mistaken as one of AMG's V8s. Reach for the next gear and it rewards you with a loud "barrrrpppp". And I mean 'Loud'. It might be too much for some but I personally love it! On the handling front, it rides softer as compared to its sister, the A 45 AMG hatchback. Unless you drive them back to back, chances are you wouldn't notice the difference. Its variable-ratio steering feels sharp and weighting is fine. Road feel could be improved though. No complaints on the brakes. They are pretty much as good as they can get. Seats hug you snug and also look great. Red belts remind you this is something special. AMG illuminated side step is one of the many features that adds to the overall feel-good factor of the car. While it might be slightly pricey, its looks and talent more than makes up for it. Evo owners, look no further. Click here for the full review.
  12. We have seen F1 drivers in action in their single-pilot, open wheel race cars. But what happens when you put two of them in one supercar?
  13. Kate Upton, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover model, would be pitching the automaker's all-new 2014 CLA at the Super Bowlnext month. With Mercedes determined to target a more youthful buyer for its stylish compact sedan, choosing a beautiful 20-year-old pinup seemed to make good sense. The German automaker has just released a 90-second video with the very seductive Upton interacting with soap suds and her blonde hair. The real Super Bowl ad, partially filmed in New Orleans (where the game will take place) will feature the bombshell along with R&B star Usher. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcuB6vwBtLE While the video is labeled "Kate Upton Washes the All-New Mercedes-Benz CLA in Slow Motion," the curvaceous Sports Illustrated babe doesn't actually do any washing. Instead, the 21-year-old Upton shows off her famous assets in the aforementioned shorts and tank top for a bunch of googly-eyed football players who do the washing for her. Watch the German automaker's uncharacteristic presentation, and let us know if this "Carl's Jr".-like ad direction is a good way to shake up the company's image. Last year, Victoria's Secret angel Adriana Lima starred in two commercials for Kia Optima and Teleflora. Over the years, models have appeared in many memorable ads -- like the classic 1993 Pepsi commercial with Cindy Crawford.
  14. Mercedes-Benz Japan recently revealed a new special limited edition of its A-Class premium hatchback. Called the 'A 45 AMG 4MATIC PETRONAS Green Edition', it features special exterior/interior designs available under the customisation program from the AMG Performance Studio. Available only in Calcite white, only 30 of these limited edition cars will be produced for the Japanese market. Differences to the normal A 45 AMG are mainly cosmetic. Its front-end areas, exterior mirrors, rear spoiler, headlamp units, wheel hub caps, and other details are painted in PETRONAS green - the special shade normally reserved for the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS FORMULA ONE® car. Inside, AMG Performance Studio gave its steering wheel, dashboard, instrument panel, and climate control air vents the green treatment while the steering wheel, door panels, arm rest, and floor mats get matching green stitching too. The lucky Japanese will also be the first in the world to get carbon fibre material for the interior. Mechanically, the car remains the same, which is no bad thing considering it has the most powerful four-cylinder turbo engine in the world. And with 360bhp channeled to all four wheels, you bet it will be a riot to drive.
  15. Following the A-Class, the CLA is next to go under the knife of Mercedes-Benz AMG performance division - to be honed as a thoroughbred tarmac burner. Having recently arrived on our shores, this could just be the perfect blend of style and performance. There should be no qualms about the CLA's ability to turn heads - more so this AMG version. Having been spruced up quite a bit, it now has the right muscles at the right spots, and is not shy to flaunt its potent performance underneath the hood. Of course, AMG's works are more than skin deep. The CLA 45 sports a slew of technical trickeries - such as AMG-tuned 4MATIC all-wheel drive, twin-scroll turbocharger, AMG sports exhaust system with automatic exhaust flap control etc. All these helps to put the 360bhp and 450Nm of torque firmly onto the tarmac, in the usual AMG way with a characterful howl that should easily leave bystanders in awe. To ensure the CLA gets the right dose of AMG DNA, its 2.0-litre engine is built the same way as its bigger brothers - according to the traditional 'one man, one engine' philosophy. A seven speed twin-clutch DCT sports transmission helps despatch power to all four wheels, and achieve a century sprint timing of 4.6 seconds. Likewise, the cabin of the CLA 45 AMG is no less dramatic than its sheet metal. While we haven't got the chance to get up close with this street racer, we thought we might as well enjoy these lovely photos from the manufacturer.
  16. Never mind that COE premiums are skyrocketing - a small Mercedes has been replaced by a bigger Benz to become Singapore's top model. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class executive sedan is now the most popular car after the first nine months of 2013. This mid-sized saloon displaces another Merc, the compact C-Class sedan, which was the No 1 model in the first half of 2013, as it carried its momentum from being Singapore's most popular model in 2012. The E-Class's success can be attributed to its recent facelift. Called the "new" E-Class, it features a dramatically revised front end to align this usually conservative model with the three-pointed star's latest family look. "The makeover of the E-Class now appeals to both young and old buyers, and most of them view it as a brand new model even though it is already three years old," said the sales manager of a mid-sized dealership. At the same time, the attraction of the C-Class's 1.6-litre engine lost some of its lustre as the Category A small car COE premium soared and began consistently hovering near the Cat B big car premium. The sales manager added: "As the rising COE premium caused the C-Class to become more expensive, a few of those who were considering it looked to the new E-Class instead." The E200 model starts from about $240,000, while the compact C180 sedan is transacted at around $185,000. Mercedes-Benz remains Singapore's No 1 brand with year-to-date new passenger car registrations of 2,902 units (see table). This number includes both authorised and parallel imports but excludes taxis. But the BMW brand has managed to close the gap with its traditional rival. After nine months, BMW has notched up 2,889 units, or a difference of a mere 13 cars. In the first quarter of this year, the gap was more than 200 cars. The number of parallel imports for each brand is only about 160 to 170 units. Total E-Class registrations came up to 1,353 units from January to September 2013, while the C-Class tally is 1,086 units (see table). The pair of Mercs was followed by a pair of BMWs - the 5 Series with 1,026 units and the 3 Series with 948. Rounding up the top five is the Volkswagen Golf, which was introduced as a new model at the start of this year. Among the top five makes, Toyota is the only non-European - in fact, non-German - nameplate. The once popular Japanese and Korean marques slowed down in this high COE environment. After Toyota, the highest-ranked Japanese make is Mazda at No 7 with 470 new cars registered in the first nine months of 2013. It is followed by Nissan at No 8 with 466 units. A luxury make, Jaguar, is No 9 with 397 cars while Hyundai rounds up the top 10 with 378 units. But the Korean brand continues to dominate in the taxi segment, with a year-to-date registration of 811 cabs. From January to September 2013, only 17,102 new cars were registered in Singapore, down 19 per cent from the same period last year. Total new cars this year are on track to be the lowest in more than 15 years. Source: http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/premium/top-stories/mercedes-benz-e-class-no-1-20131028

  18. Not so long ago, I tried to remind you to keep away from a country such as Russia. Thing is, the people - well mostly - seem really reckless there, especially while driving. It isn't that hard at all to find videos to prove this theory. Now, another incident - a tragic one too - has taken place in which I believe quite a number of people wonder how the country actually functions. While it may seem just like another car crash, this one is a lot more awful. In the video, we can see a Ferrari 458 Italia rear ending a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Judging from the fact that the rear bumper of the Mercedes was entirely ripped apart, I believe you have a good idea regarding the speed the Ferrari driver must have been driving at the moment. Amazingly, though, neither the Ferrari driver nor the Mercedes driver got seriously hurt. Yet, what was really tragic was the fact that the Italian supercar had actually knocked over a pedestrian, Nariman Gaynulov, 62, before crashing into the said Mercedes. As it turned out, the man driving the Ferrari 458 Italia is Larion Vuokila, 23, son of Alexander Zajonc, a Russian billionaire. Despite not getting seriously hurt, Vuokila was taken to the hospital soon after the incident. However, he tried to escape but has now been arrested by the police. I am not really sure what actually happened to Vuokila seconds before the crash. Was it that he tried to beat the red light? Or, was the crash triggered by Vuokila losing control of his supercar? Well, it seems like we

  21. All three German luxury car makers, Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW posted positive sales growth for 2012. In 2012, BMW sold 1,540,085 cars, Audi sold 1,455,100 cars and Mercedes Benz sold 1,320,097 cars, globally, registering 11.6%, 11.7% and 4.69% sales growth respectively. http://www.rushlane.com/bmw-audi-and-merce...al-1258738.html
