I am driving a Toyota Vios 2005 and is currently on stock brake pad. Well, I was driving along an empty road when suddenly a mother holding daughter's hand jaywalk while looking at the LEFT when traffic is from the right. My E-Brake comes with very loud growling noise (not it's not ABS). Diagnosed to be hardened brake pad.First time I heard of this situation but given the factor of my last minute late and hard braking bad habit,30,000KM clocked with very little signs of wear, I guess it's the material inferiority. Thus, I am thinking of changing it and since I am doing so, might as well just buy a better ones.I am perfectly fine with dirty rims. Have ever used Ferodo but I find it too strong.I am kind of confidence with Bosch product but I have no idea where to get.Anyone have suggestion? I don't need very good but something better than OEM.

old news... but just stumbled onto it. Si-bei sexy! Must share! I always thot those spies r like james bond movie...got chio bu with dua nei nei one..how come tis one dun hav.... LOL MOSCOW (AP) — A U.S. diplomat was ordered Tuesday to leave the country after the Kremlin's security services said he tried to recruit a Russian agent, and they displayed tradecraft tools that seemed straight from a cheap spy thriller: wigs, packets of cash, a knife, map and compass, and a letter promising millions for "long-term cooperation." The FSB, the successor agency to the Soviet-era KGB, identified the diplomat as Ryan Fogle, a third secretary at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, detaining him briefly overnight. It alleged that Fogle was a CIA officer trying to recruit a Russian counterterrorism officer who specializes in the volatile Caucasus region in southern Russia, where the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects had their ethnic roots. Fogle was handed over to U.S. Embassy officials, declared persona non grata and ordered to leave Russia immediately. He has diplomatic immunity, which protects him from arrest. The State Department would only confirm that Fogle worked as an embassy employee, but wouldn't give any details about his employment record or responsibilities in Russia. Some officials also referred inquiries to the CIA, which declined comment. Fogle was the first American diplomat to be publicly accused of spying in Russia in about a decade. While relations between the two countries have been strained, officials in both Washington and Moscow sought to play down the incident. The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul to appear Wednesday in connection with the case. McFaul said he would not comment on the spying allegation. Russian officials expressed indignation the U.S. would carry out an espionage operation at a time when the two countries have been working to improve counterterrorism cooperation. "Such provocative actions in the spirit of the Cold War do nothing to strengthen mutual trust," the Foreign Ministry said. Russia's Caucasus region includes the provinces of Chechnya and Dagestan. The suspects in the April 15 Boston Marathon bombings — Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his elder brother, Tamerlan, who was killed in a manhunt — are ethnic Chechens. Tamerlan spent six months last year in Dagestan, now the center of an Islamic insurgency. U.S. investigators have been working with the Russians to try to determine whether Tamerlan Tsarnaev had established any contacts with militants in Dagestan. Despite the end of the Cold War, Russia and the United States still maintain active espionage operations against each other. Last year, several Russians were convicted in separate cases of spying for the U.S. and sentenced to lengthy prison sentences. But Tuesday's case had espionage elements that seemed more like "Spy vs. Spy" than Ludlum and le Carre. Russian state TV showed pictures of a man said to be Fogle, wearing a baseball cap and a blond wig, lying face down on the ground. The man, without the wig, was also shown sitting at a desk in the offices of the FSB, the Federal Security Service. Two wigs, a compass, a map of Moscow, a pocket knife, three pairs of sunglasses and envelopes of 500 euro notes (each bill worth $649) were among the items the FSB displayed on a table. The FSB also produced a typewritten letter that it described as instructions to the Russian agent who was the target of Fogle's alleged recruitment effort. The letter, in Russian and addressed "Dear friend," offers $100,000 to "discuss your experience, expertise and cooperation" and up to $1 million a year for long-term cooperation. The letter also includes instructions for opening a Gmail account to be used for communication and an address to write. It is signed "Your friends." "If this is genuine, then it'll be seen to be appallingly bad tradecraft — being caught with a 'How-to-be-a-Spy 101' guide and a wig. He would have had to have been pretty stupid," said Mark Galeotti, a professor at New York University who studies the Russian security services. Samuel Greene, director of the Russia Institute at King's College London, called the evidence bizarre. "I wouldn't have thought that spies gave each other written instructions," he said in a telephone interview. Greene also noted that the FSB had displayed Fogle's official diplomatic ID, suggesting he was carrying it along with the spy paraphernalia when he was detained. "Maybe this is what the CIA has come to, maybe the propaganda folks in the Kremlin think we are this stupid, or maybe both," he said. A five-minute video produced by the FSB and shown on state TV showed a Russian official speaking to what appear to be three U.S. diplomats who had come to pick up Fogle in the FSB office. The official, whose face is blurred, alleged that Fogle called an unidentified FSB counterintelligence officer who specializes in the Caucasus at 11:30 p.m. Monday. He then said that after the officer refused to meet, Fogle called him a second time and offered 100,000 euros if he would provide information to the U.S. The Russian official said the FSB was flabbergasted. He pointed to high-level efforts to improve counterterrorism cooperation, specifically FBI director Robert Mueller's visit to Moscow last week and phone calls between President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin. "At a time when the presidents of the two countries are striving to improve the climate of relations between the two countries, this citizen, in the name of the U.S. government, commits a most serious crime here in Moscow," the official said. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki confirmed that an officer at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow was briefly detained and released. "We have seen the Russian Foreign Ministry announcement and have no further comment at this time," said Psaki, who was in Sweden with Secretary of State John Kerry. Little was immediately known about Fogle. A third secretary is an entry level position at the State Department, the lowest diplomatic rank in the foreign service. Putin has stoked anti-American sentiments among Russians in recent years in what is seen as an effort to build support at home. He also appears to have a genuine distrust of Russian nongovernmental organizations that receive American funding, which he has accused of being fronts that allow the U.S. government to meddle in Russia's political affairs. Hundreds of NGOs have been searched this year as part of an ongoing crackdown by the Russian government. Galeotti said the public exposure of Fogle suggests a political purpose behind the detention. He said these kinds of spying incidents happen with some frequency, but making such a big deal of them is rare. "More often, the etiquette is that these things get dealt with quite quietly — unless they want to get a message out," Galeotti said. "If you identify an embassy staffer who is a spy for the other side, your natural impulse is to leave them be, because once you identify, you can keep tabs on them, see who they talk to and everything else." "There's no reason to make a song and dance, detain them, eject them," he said. Greene said Fogle's detention should be seen as part of Putin's confrontation with the opposition and not as something likely to have a major impact on U.S.-Russia relations. "I think this is mostly for domestic consumption in Russia so that people say, 'look at these naughty Americans trying to meddle in our internal affairs and spy on us,'" Greene said. "But everybody's got spies everywhere so I don't see this as a major issue." In Washington, State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell also said the incident was unlikely to hamper U.S.-Russia relations. "I'm not sure I'd read too much into one incident one way or another," he told reporters, and pointed to Kerry's meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Sweden on Tuesday evening. "We have a very broad and deep relationship with the Russians across a whole host of issues, and we'll continue to work on our diplomacy with them directly." Alexei Pushkov, who heads the international affairs committee in Russia's parliament, wrote in a Twitter post that the spy scandal would be short-lived and would not interfere in Kerry and Lavrov's discussions aimed at bridging deep differences over the civil war in Syria. "But the atmosphere is not improving," Pushkov commented. ___ Associated Press writers Max Seddon in Moscow, Bradley Klapper in Washington and Lara Jakes in Kiruna, Sweden, contributed to this report. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/russian-security-services-say-they-detained-us-diplomat-they-claim-cia-agent

I really doubt... Its personal space, comfort and the control that will be very hard to get through our public transport system. On the contrary, it is the cost$ that will push drivers to give up driving altogether. Two in five basic bus services improved since BSEP launch The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said 248 new buses have been added on the road under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP). That is nearly half of the 550 buses that the government has pledged to add to the public transport system as part of the programme. Under BSEP, aimed at expanding public bus capacity and improving bus service levels, the government will foot the bill of over S$1.1 billion for these 550 buses while public transport operators will pay for another 250 buses. So far, more than S$90 million has been spent. Giving a one-year report on the programme, LTA and public transport operators SBS Transit and SMRT said in total, 111 existing bus services - or two in every five basic bus services - have been enhanced and 14 new bus services introduced. In a joint statement on Monday morning, they indicated these improvements have enhanced the connectivity of Singapore's bus network. In addition, they have shortened waiting times by three to five minutes for some existing bus services. Based on the analysis of ticketing and GPS data, this has reduced the number of bus services with persistent crowding during peak period by about 40 per cent. LTA said the bulk of the remaining buses that the government has agreed to add will be rolled out by the end of 2014 instead of 2016. LTA also said it will be tapping private bus operators further to augment its resources. Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said: "(As a result of the BSEP,) what we have seen therefore, is that there has been a shorter waiting time for commuters, less crowded, and basically a better commuting experience for everybody. "Because we are accelerating the programme, we therefore expect that the expenditure is going to be a bit higher and faster than what we originally envisaged. When we originally put up the S$1.1 billion figure, we did not expect to involve the private operators in such a large way. "So, we've got to look at those figures and after a couple of years, we would be in a much better position to be able to see whether the S$1.1 billion is indeed sufficient to last us for the entire duration of the 10 years." Meanwhile bus service 651, which plies from Jurong West direct to the city and is operated by a private bus operator, was launched on Monday. LTA will also work with private bus operators to operate short services during peak hours. This includes localised routes in estates that take residents to nearby transport nodes. These services will complement the existing feeder bus services operated by the public transport operators. LTA will call a tender for these short services later this year. In addition, two more new services will be implemented to further improve connectivity in areas like Taman Jurong and Bukit Panjang by the end of this year. And nine more new City Direct bus services will be progressively rolled out from January next year. Even though there are more buses on the roads, reactions from commuters have been mixed. One commuter said: "The waiting time is actually quite fast -- it's between two and five minutes sometimes during peak hours. But if it's during non-peak hours, normally it's five to 10 minutes, which is quite reasonable." Another commuter disagreed, and said: "Sometimes you can't even get into the buses because it's jam packed, especially during peak hours." The government will review the Bus Service Enhancement Programme after 2014 to see what other improvements are needed.

From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...better-20121120 Father-in-law's death: Handle patients better Published on Nov 20, 2012 AT ABOUT 5am on Oct 26, my husband and I accompanied my father-in-law, who had fallen and hurt his forehead and mouth, to the Singapore General Hospital's accident and emergency department, where he was placed in an observation ward. We waited until 7am and when no one updated us on his condition, we sought permission to see him. When we did, his right eye had become swollen. We were told that the staff would be stitching up his forehead wound to stop the bleeding, and admission would be done when a bed became available. At around 11.50am, he was admitted. Up to then, nothing had been done for him except the placement of a drip and stitching of his forehead wound. The nurses told us that they had arranged a CT scan for him the next day, as Oct 26 was a public holiday and the relevant staff were not working. The next day, after the scan was done, the neurologists informed us there were multiple injuries to my father-in-law's skull, and bleeding within. We were told that he would be in a coma within 24 hours. Due to his age and sickness, no surgery was suggested. My father-in-law died on Oct 29. There is much room for improvement in how patients are handled. Is it the norm for CT scan departments to be closed on public holidays? Could my father-in-law's death been prevented if the scan had been done on the same day, and corrective action taken to stop the bleeding? Adeline Lim (Madam)

Ruber hub centric ring or aluminium centric ring better?
LoverofCar posted a topic in Tyres and Rims
As we know for aftermarket sport rim, sometime the centre hub doesn't fit exactly to the car. So a plastic centric ring is used for aftermarket rim fittment. I heard that rubber ring is better than aluminium type as it take vibration better...of course down side is that, it have to be changed frequently if it deformed. It can changed during tyre rotation....Do anyone have experience in this to share? And is these rings absolutely needed? -
should I change my stock rubber tyre valves to the metal type, any difference, is it better???

my Altis stock stereo system is below average at best, the CD player (playing MP3) is very soft (and if turn to loud, gets distorted) and the radio is also very poor, the bass is non existent and only have distortions and crackling sounds...but when i connect my Samsung S2 to the Aux input (just from earphone output) and play with full volume, suddenly the sound from the system is much much better. The bass is quite good (for my standard, which is quite low), my rear view mirror can shake but there is no distortion from the doors or any crackling sound, only when pushed further until body can feel shiok (by then a bit too loud liao), then the distortion will come...the clarity is much better.....not bad for a stock player, by itself is really crap (downgraded from below average liao) but with just a simple input from external player its now 'good enough'. really dont know why like that. If i am not too embarrassed, can play Gangnam dance full blast!!!!!

Posted by "Jan" Being an expat myself who also lived in Singapore for a year back in the mid 1990's I have to be completely honest and say that I really think the Singaporean Government should try to stick a finger in the ground and listen to its own population for once. Even I as a foreigner much prefer the The Singapore I experienced 18 years ago from the Singapore today where everything seems to be aimed at creating a higher GDP on paper for show with the result that Singaporeans are being made secondary citizens in their own country. It is really no wonder that ordinary Singaporeans feel they have had enough. Due to the Governments stance on labour laws it has been possible for employers to virtually make Singaporeans extinct within certain industries. The service sector in Singapore is today virtually void of local Singaporeans. When I go to Changi Airport to fly anywhere the only place I meet local Singaporeans is in Immigration. Honestly, a people should never have to feel alienated in their own country. A completely unnecessary accident as the described just fuels the feelings already deeply rooted in most Singaporeans and that is only the lasted case. Why is it possible for somebody else than Singaporean citizens to occupy HDB flats? Why has it been allowed that some foreigners have been able to stay in the PR scheme almost indefinitely? Why are many Singaporeans treated differently in hospitals and educational institutions just because you have foreigners standing there waving money? I can only recommend the Singaporean Government to wake up and look at the realities. A very real scenario may reveal itself in 2016 and maybe that is about time as well. I am not a Singaporean nor can I ever become one but I do have enough common sense to understand that there is something very wrong in Singapore when local Singaporeans are being put second or further back in line to pretty much everything while some foreigners, who's only asset for Singapore is money, take first row. Maybe The Singaporean Government don't even care how some of these newly rich have actually aquired their wealth. Many of them may not really be people you want to be associated with like this irresponsible crazy PRC moron who by his splendid show of stupidity managed to take the lives of two innocent people of which one was just an ordinary family father who worked to provide for his family.
