  1. Dear all.. Last sunday when i was heading back home.. along bendemeer road heading toward jalan besar.. around 10+ 11pm, approaching a traffic light from around 200m it turn green, so i did not slow down (speed around 50/60km/hr) there was a taxi stop a the traffic light same lane (2nd right most lane) as i do, I assume he will pick up his speed cos when red light turn green, his brake light went off, when i was nearing...after 5-7sec, He applied his brake again.. he was stationary at the time.. I brake immediately and horn my guts out as he have gave me an idea tat he is standbying for me to hit him from rear... after i manage to brake complete right behind him after a long horn, he acce away.. S*D 3511 blue cabby.. he might be a night shifter.. he sped away very fast and cut all the way to extreme left abrutly and turn in to a shady lane from the left. To all.. please be careful.. some T-driver just out to source for paid off days.. I really count myself lucky he didn't engage reverse gear..
  2. Hey guys, Just wanted to share an experience of mine. I was freaking robbed in broad daylight! It happened when I was in JB for my favourite bah kut teh lunch. As I couldn't find a parking lot in front of the shop (main road), I drove to the back lane to park my car next to a few others. After finishing up a sumptuos meal , whilst getting into the car but yet to close my door, a man claimed to have aids and a needle came to ask for money. He threathened to stab with me the needle if I do not give him the cash. Being a hot blooded person, I almost wanted to wrestle with him but seeing my gf was in the car too, I decided not to be silly. I gave that man RM50 when he wanted RM100. Luckily for me, I usually dont keep a lot of cash in my wallet and seeing that I dont have much, he went away after taking the money. It was a horrifying incident as far as my gf is concerned but I am so damn angry that I was robbed  Anyway, I thought it would be informative to share this out with all. Moral of the story is 1. Try not to park in less traffic area even in broad day light 2. Scan through to see if there is/are any suspicious people hanging around 3. Be alert, dont let your guard down and always be ready 4. Never place too much cash in your wallet (in case he insisted to see your wallet) 5. Always have a "weapon" stored near your sit. Usually in the form of steering wheel lock. Just in case. But if RM50 can solve the matter, dont attempt to fight. Be safe all. Cheers PS: I just thank God that RM50 solved the issue and we're still where we are now.

  5. Unit at Hougang Green hits $809 psf 11 April 2011 ChannelNewsAsia Homes in suburbs such as Simei and Buangkok are enjoying a resurgence of interest owing to their affordability and accessibility as new malls and MRT lines are built. The appreciation in the prices of such property is prompting some homeowners to cash out at a profit. In Buangkok, prices at the 99-year leasehold Hougang Green recently hit a peak of $837 psf in February when a 764 sq ft unit on the 10th floor was sold for $640,000. This comes after the launch of a new executive condominium development a few streets away

  8. IF YOU are driving in Malaysia, avoid driving over newspaper strewn on the roads as they may be traps set up by carjackers. The latest ploy of carjackers? They set up newspapers traps on the roads, filled with nails and force you to stop your car by puncturing your tyres. According to a STOMP report, the carjacking technique orginated from Indonesia by is no widely adopted by the robbers in Malaysia. A reader, Concern, wrote in an email to the citizen journalism website with stories of carjacking traps to share. He said: "Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the road. "Some people have lost their lives over this. They drive into certain lonely roads in Jakarta to find pieces of wood with nails in them on the road. This causes their tyres to go flat. "If they get out of their cars, they are set upon by robbers who will take everything they can: car, wallet, anything valuable and sometimes their lives." According to the reader, similar incidents have happened in Kuala Lumpur. He wrote: "This person was driving alone at night when he saw newspapers lying around in the middle of the road. "Without giving it much thought, he drove over them. No one would expect to find heaps of rocks and stones beneath the paper. "He stopped to check the damage. The moment he got out of his car, he was robbed by a group of guys and lost his properties/belongings. Just imagine what would have happen if the driver was a woman. The reader urged drivers to be careful, and "do not stop when you're driving alone at night, no matter what happens." "Avoid driving over newspaper on the road, this could be a new trick for desperate people out there."
  9. My wife got to know this forumer(from mummysg forum) who warned her about this dishonest couple who collect giveaways and sell them on various forums and online sites. She warn my wife to avoid them as she was a victim(and some other mothers) to their scam. Here's a recent summary of her encounter with them. https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=...uthkey=CM75jeoJ They have probably changed their facebook settings and changed nick by the time we read this. If you are would be parents or are first time parents or you are giving away baby stuffs, take note. From the facebook, the wife of this couple is a NUS grad and a former SIA stewardess (dunno how true are these credentials) can do such things to unsuspecting mothers. Help spread the word to warn others as well.

  11. be warned, those who are using this card! although the prudential website says that annual fee will be waived if you spend $6k and above per year, they will deduct your stnd$ to offset your annual fee!!! this happened to me. i actually spend $15k on this card in the past year. not difficult since insurance premium is also inclusive. so i had some pts in the card. and they just deducted when the time came to pay annual fee! called up the hotline and the stupid CSR just keeping repeating her standard answer that becoz i have unused stnd$, they will offset that against the annual fee. i ask her if i spend $6k in the past yr? she said yes. BUT... becoz blah blah blah... pissed off.. ask for CEO email. refuse to give. ask to speak to manager. finally he agreed to reinstate my card and points. also said he will liaise with prudential to change the wording on their website. really waste time. guys, if u using this card, make sure you note when the pts expire and redeem them b4 it gets offset against your annual fee. and the best part is - i asked the manager why no one complain b4... he said.. he work there past 3 yrs... no such thing happen. he din even realise the website liddat say. wah.

  15. The red plate badly smashed up is a proton, his front caved in, left head lights dropped out, i think he hit a black lancer, this black lancer (which is facing the sala direction) kissed the front of a sunny or avante (if i rem the car correctly) Both the red plate proton, the black colour lancer and the other sunny or avante... all got stickers on it... I hv personally encountered many bad experiences with RED PLATE drivers. I am always extra careful when I see them near me.
  16. Yesterday was in Little India. Passed by this tyre shop (the one along Serangoon Rd, next to one of the "higher" end Mustafa outlet. Saw the men used a special tool to cut grove on a worn out tyre. Dont know he was asked by his customer to do that or he just do that and sell the "newly cut" tyre as 2nd hand tyre. Dont know this practice is common. Just want to warn everyone here beware of such thing.

Several friends had called and ask what I was sending to them. I informed that I did not send any e-mails out to anyone with regards to some shopping information and sales........ So beware of unknown mails you receive before opening to check the contents ......
  20. My Ody is 3 years old and mileage is about 80K so I thought I would do my serving at other workshop to save some bucks since the warranty is out. Last Friday I went to a AMK w/s highly recommended by some bros here. B4 going there I did a search online comparing KM and various w/s prices. First look it was cheaper by 100+. But after going thru the detail, it will be end up more expensive than Kah motor as it does not include major items like fuel filter and other labour charge.....Luckily I wipe out my iPad to check online & comparing in detail before I hand over my key....thereafter I made my 80K service booking at KM....
  21. I think there have been several threads about this kind of scenarios... ie. NEA tree cutting and their trucks parked along roads.... near accidents or actual accidents, whether partial blame to NEA or the drivers... well.. someone has died in an accident with one of these trucks. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_583285.html Please drive with full concentration at all times... don't be distracted by phone calls, loud music, people chatting beside you, sms, etc... a split second of inattention can cause an accident... could result in some one else's or your own death.... drive safe everyone!
  22. Posting this on behalf of my friend. 2 Sat ago he went into JB for his weekly petrol fix. Went to one of the more popular car wash along the road where New York Hotel is. After parking the car at the washing bay there, he went to the makan place next to it for drinks & food. Next thing he knew, he heard a loud BANG sound. He saw his car being hit from behind by another Spore car. The driver is one of the car wash worker. He must be trying to move the car forward a little but somehow must have lost control & hit my friend's car. My friend was too shock to react. Then he went over to ask how could such thing happen? Then they started to talk to him in malay. He couldn't understand what they were saying to him. He then called me. This was around 1.30am just when I was going to bed. He told me what had happen but couldnt understand what the car wash ppl was telling him & he passed the call to them. I spoke to them in malay for a few minutes. They told him to come down again the next day. Later I spoke to my friend again, he said that his back bumper got hit. His car plate although not broken but quite badly dented. I told him that they willing to sent the car for repair the next day. He asked me to foloow him to JB again on Sunday morning. Till now I have no idea how badly the damage is. The next morning he came over to my block to pick me up. The 1st thing i noticed was that his front bumper & number plate was also dented. I walk to the back to see his back bumper. The number plate was dented, the bumper he said they somehow pull the dented part back out. I told him that although not as bad as he 1st made it out to be, the damage can still be seen. The most obvious damaged part was the number plate. Oh, my friend drives a OPC. So the seal was hit & bend. I went back to the front of the car, his front bumper was actually worst damage then the back. He said that there was a Merc that was park infront of his car at that time of the crash. That might have accounted for the damage to the front. He said no one actually notice the front at that time cos the hit was from the back. His front seal was also bend & the bumper was also pushed in. I told him lets go to JB to see what they say. Reach there around noon on Sunday. Went they look look at my friends car then i pointed out to the damage of the front that no one noticed the nite before. They now say they can't repair it on the same day & asked my friend to leave the car there overnite so they could do the repair for him the next day. After having 2nd thought about leaving there overnite, my friend decided not to leave it there & we came back to Spore. One of his many worry is that they will somehow break the seal in their attempt to repair the bumper. My friend would then be in big trouble with LTA. My friend asked me to call the guy from car wash again that nite.Called him & he tried to explained that he has his own workshop & he can do everything for less that RM50 & that he can repair till my friend is satisfied. I told him that my friend is still very worried that the seal will come off. He mention no problem & he is fully aware about the seal. He got a little agitated when i told him my friend very reluctant to have it repaired there in JB. He say repair in Spore sure expensive & he can do everything for abt RM50. Told what he mention to my friend, my friend still reluctant to repaired it over there. He say his bad luck to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I told him even he doesn't wanna claim full for his repair, he should at least claim the cost to replace both his number plate & replace of the seal. Told him to go find out how much it cost to replace the number plate before going back to tell them to just pay a fix amount & anything on top of that my friend will top up. He agreed said it sounded reasonable. Today I got a call from him, he mention that he called the car wash again & again they spoken to him in bits of English & malay. My friend said he told the person that they pay him RM800 & forget about the whole thing. Again they told him to bring it to JB for repair. Saying that the most they would pay is RM100. That not even enough to cover the cost of the number plate both front & back. My friend ask to to call them & try to reason with them. Again they told me the same crap about how the whole repair can be done with less than RM100. Told him my friend say he is not going to repair there & we just wanted a nominal sum for the cost of replacement & repair. Still he say he is not paying a cent above RM100. Take it or leave it. The reason for posting this? Frankly buay song on how they handling this. Yes they offer to repair, but my friend is not taking any chance on the seal part. Just wondering what the rest of you will do if in my friends shoe? The other Spore car we heard also is not repairing with them & repairing in Spore (also another OPC). Saw pic of the other car, think the bonnet is damaged from the impact. .
  23. sorry no disrespect to the deceased, but I think the car will be in resale market soon.. http://www.asiaone.com/News/The%2BNew%2BPa...9-237966/2.html He had $250,000 but still borrowed money By Crystal Chan He kept his gambling habit from his family. Several years back, his wife had caught him placing bets online and warned him about it. But photo shop owner Ng Ngai Chan, 57, couldn't quit. Instead he became more secretive about his habit. His life spiralled out of control and he ran into cash flow problems. Even though he inherited $100,000 from his late mother and received $150,000 from selling a shophouse, he borrowed money from his wife and others every few months. Each time, Mr Ng borrowed thousands of dollars. He never repaid his wife. His gambling habit sucked him in even deeper. On Friday, Mr Ng was found dead in his Nissan Quash in East Coast Park at 4.45pm. Police are treating the case as an unnatural death. His widow, who asked to be known as Mrs Ng, told The New Paper she was so tired of her husband taking money from her, she avoided talking to him. Mrs Ng, 44, who has two sons and a daughter, aged 14 to 19, was composed when she spoke at her husband's wake in Block 5, Haig Road. She said in Mandarin: "Just three months ago, he borrowed $50,000 from me. Every time he asked for money, he claimed his business had cash flow problems." So much so often Man found dead in car at East Coast Park. His wife claims he had been trying to fund gambling habit "But it couldn't be so bad that he had to borrow so much money so often. If it wasn't gambling, what else could it be? "Obviously, the money from my mother-in-law and the sale of the shophouse was gone. Otherwise, my husband wouldn't have borrowed money from me and others." Mrs Ng claimed that her husband told her he had taken loans from friends and relatives and he needed money to repay the debts. Last month, she realised her husband had failed to pay the utilities bill after receiving notices from Singapore Power. Things were not always bad. In the early years of their 20-year marriage, Mrs Ng helped out at her husband's shop in nearby City Plaza. When the business improved after a few years, Mr Ng told her to stay at home and look after their children. He also took care of the household expenses. She said: "He said I didn't have to slog it out with him any more and he could manage being the sole breadwinner." But Mrs Ng freelanced as a photographer and as a spa therapist because she wanted to make money for herself. About seven years ago, Mr Ng, who usually bought lottery, began dabbling in online betting. Mrs Ng said: "I happened to see him placing bets via a computer and told him to stop. "After that, I never saw him betting online. But that was also the time when he began taking loans from me. "As the loans became more frequent, I became more unwilling to give him the money. But in the end, my heart softened because I kept hoping each loan would be the last." Mr Ng's habit was such that his widow even considered divorce. But she held on to the marriage for the sake of their children. Mrs Ng said: "I avoided talking to my husband because I feared he'd ask for money." Now she fears creditors, including loansharks, would come knocking on her door after the funeral. Mrs Ng said: "I already have bills to pay and I still have to worry that more people will come after me for my husband's debts." She declined to say how much they owe on utilities. Financial problems Despite his financial problems, Mr Ng had bought a car, the one he died in. Mrs Ng said: "He didn't tell me he planned to buy a car as he knew I'd object, given his financial situation. "When he drove the car home, I questioned him, but he assured me he could afford it, just like the way he assured me he'd repay me." She revealed she saw her husband's death coming. Around 4am on Friday, Mr Ng sent text messages to his brother and sister to bid them farewell. His siblings informed Mrs Ng and she made a police report. After a 12-hour search, Mr Ng's siblings found his car parked in Car Park E2 of East Coast Park. Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel broke the car window to open the vehicle. Mr Ng was pronounced dead at the scene.
