  1. [extract] We should have all seen the new BMW M4 Concept by now and be awed by how handsome it is. We are sure it is going to be a great driver
  2. Inside these pretty pictures is the new BMW i3. And if you haven't heard of it, the Bavarian automaker is heading full steam into Electric Vehicles (EVs) and the i3 will mark its foray in the segment. Under its 'i' sub brand, BMW will create two vehicles. The first - the i3 - was conceived to be an urban runabout - or MCV (Megacity Vehicle). A more mouth-watering i8 Spyder concept is scheduled to be launched at a later date. And we are keeping our fingers crossed that the production version will look just as stunning. Back to reality. Yes, the i3 is already on its way to its production run and will be on sale by next year. Much of the futuristic element of the concept has been inherited, and we must say it is one of the best looking EV so far - bar the sexy Tesla Roadster. BMW has vowed to make the i3 as 'liveable' as possible. Space for more than one - check. Proper seats - check. And there's the ingenious-looking cabin aperture, which does without the B-pillar for easier entrance into the cabin. Not bad at all. One of the most pressing question that must have popped into your mind by now - how far will it go on one full charge? On paper, it says 150km - a very usable range if you consider most of us in Singapore only do 50km daily. But what if those figures aren't reassuring enough? Or you need a longer range? BMW will offer an optional range extender, which will increase the total range to 300km. The minimalist interior design of the i3 is a fresh approach, and looks welcoming to us. The switch-gear looks straight from a sci-fi show, and seems easy to use too. Fans of the marque will be familiar with these ConnectedDrive controls. Look further and you will realise that there isn't a 'Sport' option on the drive select switch - proof that the i3 was meant to be a practical, economical city car after all. The whole package of the i3 looks pretty enticing. But if this is really the future of motoring, does it spell doom for adrenaline-pumping, mind blogging petrol-driven cars that we have been so accustomed to from day one? Jot down your thoughts below.
  3. BMW Asia together with the local distributors of the German marque - Performance Motors Limited (PML) - locally launched the all new 3 Series Gran Turismo (GT) last week. The car is a looker, it has typical BMW dimensions and trademark design characteristics that does not fall from the existing 3 Series family. BMW claims, the 3 Series GT combines the Sedan's dynamic, sporting genes with the practicality and versatility of the Touring body style. Personally, I think the car suffers from severe personality disorder(s). I have nothing against the car or the potential buyers or even the brand. With a guy who possesses mild traits of OCD, I am just confused with is the sole purpose of the 3 Series GT and not to mention I do understand the whole trend of 'hybrid' multitasking products. Let me put it this way, you belong to one of the affluent classes (or getting there), you have a successful job, a small family and a decent pay that allows you to buy the above mentioned car despite the stringent loan restrictions and rules. On a simple night out with friends or extended family members you display your new metallic and leather possession
  4. If you live in China (or plan to go there in the near future) and you have extra amount of money to spend, you may want to consider buying yourself a luxury coupe from German automaker BMW. Introduced for the first time back at this year's Detroit Motor Show, BMW is planning to start selling the M6 Gran Coupe in a wide range of countries, including China where the model has already made its debut. Let me remind you, to me, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe is nothing less than a very luxurious four-door coupe that will not hesitate to take you to the century sprint in only 4.2 seconds. Under its hood, the coupe packs a 4.4-litre twin-turbo engine which has the capability of delivering the power of no less than 560 horses in addition to 680Nm of torque in total. In order to sell the model in the origin country of pandas, the German automaker has teamed up with Brilliance, a local company, and they both have planned big things for the said coupe. Well, last but not least, as far as the price tag is concerned, BMW is demanding 2,390,000 yuan (around S$493,000) in exchange for a M6 Gran Coupe. Well, are you interested?
  5. For boys, it's only natural that they play bumper cars with their father at some point in their lives. Well, there's nothing to worry about if it's just a game, however it isn't the case in the video below. The Chinese father in the video wasn't playing bumper cars with his son at all. Instead, he was really crashing into his son's BMW Z4 in his Mercedes-Benz S-Class! It's pretty obvious that the father must have been really mad at his son there. You see, even after the crash, he went on chasing his son, this time on foot! However, it seems that age really does matter. As his son was way younger than him, there was no doubt that the young man was way more capable of going from "0 to 100 km/h" on foot than his father was. Yet, no matter how fast any of them could run, it didn't take long for the local police to take both into custody. This seemingly one-of-a-kind incident took place in Ma'anshan City, Anhui, China, and it was said that the incident was triggered by family problems between the old man and his son. Now, besides hefty repair bills, both men are likely to face penalties as well, due to their reckless driving on a public road. So, next time if you're about to argue with your old man, I suggest that you think again as things would have been better if one of those men in the video tried to give in to the other.
  6. In a recent survey conducted by U.K.'s largest dating website for married people, Illicit Encounters, Audi owners are found to be the most likely candidates in having extramarital affairs. The result was concluded by polling its 750,000 members. To be specific, 22.2 percent of Audi owners claim that they have cheated on their spouses. This is followed by BMW drivers with a score of 13.8 percent. Taking third place is Mercedes-Benz with 8.7 percent. In the survey last year, BMW owners take pole position for being the most adulterous bunch. At the other end of the spectrum, French car owners are found to be the most loyal partners. Only 0.4 percent of Peugeot drivers confessed that they have had an affair followed by Renault drivers with a score of 0.5 percent. "Cars can reveal a lot about their owners. All the cars in the top five represent our members - they are typically successful, motivated, high-achievers who are less likely to settle for something they find unsatisfying, be it a car or a relationship," commented Mike Taylor from Illicit Encounters website. Premium German makes have been dominating Singapore's sales charts for the past few years. If your hubby wants to get a German car, perhaps you may want to try convincing him to get a French car instead to 'safeguard your marriage'.
  7. Do you often drive when nighttime falls? Well, my father, for one, quite so often does just that. And, if you do so, too, chances are you often find yourselves kind of blinded by the illumination of cars which are coming from the opposite lane. That's not to mention that there's a great number of cars that utilise Xenon bulbs these days, blinding you even more. However, the frequency of you getting blinded by oncoming traffic is about to decrease, thanks to the so-called 'Intelligent Headlamps' feature. This is an illumination technology that comes from highly reputable German automaker BMW. To be honest, this technology isn't entirely new as it was first introduced back in July last year. Back then, it was introduced exclusively for the BMW 7 Series. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't standard even on the really expensive models from BMW. Instead, customers who desired to have the feature available on their BMW 7 Series would have to purchase the optional Adaptive LED Headlamps package. Nevertheless, probably realising how its technology may actually decrease traffic accidents significantly, ultimately leading to saving a whole lot more people, the luxury German car manufacturer is now offering the technology on the company's new 3 Series Saloon and Touring lineups as well. You'll only have to make sure that the models do have a Visibility package available on them. So, what this feature does is it detects the situations of the road and traffic ahead and then adjusts the lighting that comes from the headlamps of BMW cars accordingly. This way, it prevents the lighting from blinding drivers from the oncoming lane. Not only will it prevent drivers on the oncoming lane from being blinded, it won't emit much glare to the driver ahead of you, either. With that being said, nighttime driving will surely become safer, by a significant degree. Simply put, the technology provides optimal illumination. To make things even better, this technology is useful not only during nighttime but also when the weather isn't very friendly. In order to work its charm, this feature has to work side-by-side with BMW's 'High-beam Assistant' technology. However, my words and words alone may not really give you any ideas on what on Earth I'm talking about. Therefore, I think you may want to check out the accompanying videos. That's even more so in case you happen to be planning to purchase a BMW yourself. BMW's Intelligent Headlamps with High-beam Assistant Real life demonstration
  8. Anybody knows whether this model is coming to SG? I'm very interested in this model as the 3 series sedan is too small for me.
  9. American business magazine, Forbes, has just released the latest list of top 100 most powerful brands. BMW took up the ninth spot and has earned the bragging rights of being top car brand in the list. BMW has a brand value of $26.3 billion (S$32.5 billion) with a brand revenue of $73.7 billion (S$91.3 billion). After BMW comes Toyota which is ranked 14th followed by Mercedes-Benz at 16th and Honda at the 19th position. Further down the list, Audi took up the 32nd spot, Volkswagen at 45th and Ford at the 59th position. Towards the bottom of the list are Hyundai at the 71st spot while Nissan and Lexus took up the 76th and 87th position respectively. BMW car group has sold more cars in 2012 than ever before in its history. Last year, the carmaker's core BMW brand remained in top position in the global luxury car market, ahead of its two closest German rivals Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Topping the 'World's Most Powerful Brands' list is Apple, followed by Microsoft, Coca-Cola, IBM and Google.
  10. The ever popular movie 'The Fast and the Furious' is about to come to its 6th installment. As a matter of fact, you'll be witnessing 'Fast and Furious 6' on the silver screen worldwide starting May 24th. As always, we've got used to sports, exotic, and tuned cars in the series. However, we've never got to see a BMW M5 in them in spite of what the car has to offer. With that being said, it's about time the model makes its debut. So, in this 6th installment, besides other very interesting cars, there'll be around a dozen of BMW M5s. Nonetheless, don't expect to see the current model as all those 12 cars will be the V10-revving E60 model. Personally, I think the model looks attractive even when it is in a complete standstill mode, not to mention when it is involved in a highly intense full throttle action thriller. The design cues are attractive, both on the front and rear fascias, so attractive that some people in Indonesia even nicknamed it 'the eagle eye'. Unfortunately, according to 'Fast and Furious 6' Car Coordinator, Dennis McCarthy, the person in charge of setting up the cars for you to see on the big screen, most of the 'eagle eyes' had to be destroyed while filming. What a pity
  11. You know what they say, "Do whatever you want, just don't get caught!" Unfortunately (or thankfully, perhaps), these teenage car thieves in the United Kingdom don't seem quite knowledgeable about such a saying. Instead, these thieves just seemed so proud of their 'stealing' ability that they even shot pictures of themselves with the cars they had successfully stolen. What amazes me more is that they even posted the pictures on Facebook, a world renowned social media, and on their phones! This led the local police to catch them red-handed, or should I say, 'bread-handed' (you'll see why). It's a real 'shame' to the world of Grand Theft Auto. Speaking of Grand Theft Auto, it reminds me of the action adventure packed car theft game, the latest trailer of which will be shown on 30th April 2013. Alright, let's get back to topic. To be honest with you, these teenagers, aged from 18-23 years old, were quite an expert indeed. Comprising eight members, they managed to successfully steal nine high performance sports cars that were, and still are, very expensive. Porsches, Range Rovers, BMWs, and a Mercedes Coupe worth
  12. Following the step of its German rival, Mercedes-Benz, BMW will also launch an exclusive 5 Series lineup that only the Japanese can get their hands on. The premium German automaker will be offering sedan and touring variants for the BMW 5 Series Exclusive Sport Edition. The Japanese can choose a 2.0-litre diesel or a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine for both variants. These exclusive 5 Series will be limited to only 300 units, featuring a complete M-Sport package for its exterior. Meanwhile, on the interior, customers will get the comfort from a three-spoke M steering wheel, sports seats wrapped in Cinnamon Brown leather material, a Heads-Up Display, an upgraded audio system and a lot more to mention. If you're a fan of BMW and are lucky enough to be living in Japan, we think you might want to add this limited edition model to your collection. You can take it home for an exchange of something between 7,190,000 to 7,490,000 Japanese Yen. After all, you won't find the BMW 5 Series Exclusive Sport Edition in other countries or when the model is sold out - it's limited to 300 units only, remember?
  13. Acura, the luxury division under the Japanese automaker Honda, has released an image of a new concept vehicle prior to the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. From the image released, the concept vehicle is seemingly a crossover. Acura had mentioned that the concept will debut for the first time in the world at the automotive exhibition that will take place later this month in Shanghai, China. Unfortunately, apart from that and the image, the automaker has yet to reveal any other details, such as engine specifications and interior features. The concept is likely to create a new market segment, considering Acura has recently launched the 2013 all new RDX and the 2014 MDX. Judging from the tyre sizes in proportion to the car's body in the image, it seems that this new concept vehicle from Acura will be a compact crossover. If so, it'll potentially compete against the BMW X1, the Audi Q3, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, and the Lincoln MKC, the latter two of which are going into production soon. It seems that Acura won't be the only one previewing a new concept vehicle as Honda will also do the same thing. The model that Honda will likely preview is a redesign of the Honda Odyssey. Yes, although the North American version (redesigned) of the model had just recently been revealed in the 2013 New York Auto Show, Honda has actually been selling the global version since 2008. Therefore, it seems wise for the model to see a redesign of its global version soon.
  14. The vehicle that you see here pretty much looks like a three-wheeled motorcycle. But many aspects on this vehicle are very much car-like. This three-wheeled contraption is made by a Canadian company known as Campagna Motors and it is known as the T-Rex 16S. The Campagna T-Rex 16S is the company's latest sub-model within the T-Rex range and it is equipped with a new engine when compared to the T-Rex 14R. Let me talk about the company a little before I continue on the T-Rex 16S. Campagna Motors has been making the three-wheeled T-Rex since the 1990s. A few years ago, they merged with another company, Cirbin which developed the wider and more fully-bodied V13R model and both models are manufactured in Montreal, Canada. Unlike the T-Rex 14R which is equipped with a 1.4-litre four cylinder engine sourced from Kawasaki, the T-Rex 16S is equipped with a 1.6-litre six cylinder engine sourced from BMW. Power output from the new engine has dropped to 160bhp but the torque has increased to 175Nm. The T-Rex 14R has a power output of 197bhp with a torque value of 153Nm. The engine is mated to a six speed sequential transmission and should be able to launch the 500kg vehicle to 100km/h in less than five seconds (the 14R completes the century sprint in 3.9 seconds). As mentioned above, much of the vehicle's features are very much car-like and one of them is the steering wheel. There is also a gear knob in the middle, two bucket seats and it has similar foot pedals that you will find in a car. In other words, anyone who is familiar with car-type controls would be able to drive the T-Rex. The Campagna T-Rex 16S has a tubular chassis and it comes with an integrated roll cage and a three-point safety harness. The bodyshell is made out of fibre glass and accentuated with several carbon fibre parts. The T-Rex 16S is available in eight different body colours and the one shown here is in Winter White. Due to its car-like features, the company has mentioned that most of its customers are car enthusiasts and most of them are attracted to the vehicle's ride stability and its unique looks. 15. [extract] On Monday, the 25th of February 2013, the annual Budget statement was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam. He announced a lot of stuff to what people call 'Robin Hood' budget, taxing the more affluent people to aid the poor. Among the announcements, one was regarding the tiered ARF structure
  16. BMW and Toyota recently signed an agreement and part of it will see both automakers working together on a new sports car architecture. From this architecture, each automaker will release a new model. For BMW, the platform will be used for the next generation Z4 and for Toyota, it will be used for the next generation Supra. But, the supposedly new platform isn't exactly new. The new platform that will be used for the new Z4 and Supra is the same rear wheel drive platform that underpins the Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ and the platform will go through some further development to suit the new car
  17. Almost a year ago, BMW and Toyota signed a memorandum of understanding which will see both auto companies working together on lithium-ion battery development. A few months later, they expanded that agreement and part of it includes the architectural development of a new lightweight sports car. Just recently, both companies have officially confirmed that they will collaborate on a mid-size sports car. Other parts of the expanded agreement also include the development of a fuel cell system and research on lightweight technology. Both companies hope to complete these researches and developments by the year 2020 and with a prototype by 2015. If the research done on the lightweight technologies goes well, the new mid-size sports car might be the first to get such technology, which includes reinforced composite. The recent collaboration between Toyota and Subaru yielded the rear wheel driven Toyota 86/Scion FR-S and the Subaru BRZ. With this new collaboration with BMW, we might just see a new Supra and this new model will obviously be marketed above the 86/BRZ segment. As for BMW, they are busy with its electric i cars, the i3 all electric city car and the i8 sports coupe, which are slated to release in the near future. Toyota is well known for its hybrid and fuel cell technologies while BMW is known for being experts in sports cars development. And it is clear that both companies could benefit from each other
  18. [extract] Although Honda and Toyota may not employ direct injection and turbocharging technologies as widely as their German counterparts, they can at least claim that their engines are more reliable. According to a report released by UK-based Warranty Direct, a provider of direct consumer car warranties, Honda
  19. The digital age and the internet it has brought with, is truly an amazing tool for auto fanatics like you and me but I miss the old days for some reason.. I remember the days when I'm back from school and I'll see the latest Autocar magazine on my desk - my only source at that time where I can get a glimpse of the latest scoops and little hints. I don't remember reading much 'leaked' news or spy shots back then. Till today nothing beats the feeling of an all new model that is released on print and I get to see it up close on the nicely minted glossy magazine. Yes, the internet is a lot faster and usually has a better colour reproduction than print but the 'excitement' level is surely different. Anyway coming back to what I initially wanted to talk about, spyshots of what seems to be a 90% production ready 4 series have made its way to the widest web of the world. While there is a substantial amount of camouflage present on the car, you get a good preview of what the production ready version would look like. It has a minimal resemblance to the 4 Series coupe concept that was unveiled weeks ago but it looks inline with the current 3 series just without the two rear doors. 20. BMW and Boeing have signed a deal to conduct research on new ways of carbon fibre recycling and manufacturing. Carbon fibre is highly regarded as a material for the future of the aerospace and automobile industry due to its low density and high mass. Both companies have plans on the usage of carbon fibre in their upcoming products. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is made up of 50% carbon fibre while BMW's i3 and i8 electric models will feature a cabin furnished with similar materials when they are launched. Larry Schneider, Boeing Commercial Airplanes' vice-president of product development, said that the collaboration was an important step in developing the use and end use of carbon fibre materials. "It is especially important that we plan for the end of life for products made from carbon fibre. We want to look at ways to reclaim and reuse those materials to make new products," he said. The BMW logo is portrayed as the movement of an aircraft propeller with the white blades cutting through a blue sky. Hence, it is befitting to find an aircraft material being used on the German marque.
  21. A couple of years back, BMW announced that they will return to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters racing series in 2012, after a nearly 20 year absence. And in just its first season after its comeback, BMW had won a hat trick of titles (driver, manufacturer and team titles). To commemorate these incredible accomplishments, BMW is releasing a limited production M3 known as the DTM Champion Edition. The car is designed to look like Canadian driver, Bruno Spengler's M3 DTM racing car. Spengler won the driver's title for the 2012 season. The car is available exclusively in a frozen black metallic finish. The stealthy look is extended to other parts of the car too. The wheels are finished in matte black and the front grille is given a dark chrome finish. A BMW M stripe covers the carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) roof and boot lid. BMW M logos are placed on the rear portion of the front fenders and a DTM Champions 2012 decal together with a Canada flag are fixed on the rear side windows. Interior wise, the door sill strip features the same design from Spengler's racing helmet. Carbon fibre is used to trim the interior's dashboard and centre console. On the dashboard at the front passenger
  22. [extract] One undesirable thing that many of us car owners hate is the slamming of our car doors. Sometimes, they are slammed so hard that we could almost hear the car cry. This could make people go nuts and at times we just have to tell everyone in the car to gently close the door. Automotive technologies nowadays have evolved so fast that new and innovative systems see daylight every day to make our lives easier. BMW
  23. Hi Guys, Friend is changing ride soon and cannot decided between these 2. He's pretty much leaning towards the 320 but heard lots of horrible stories abt the reliability of it. IS250 on the other hand is pretty much bullet proof as it's sharing Toyota parts but he finds it boring. Any advise on the pros and cons of these 2 rides?
