  1. Some time ago, when I sent my car for servicing (and it was not those major servicing mileage or interval), I decided to get my mechanic to take a look at my throttle body. I had driven the car for about 9k mileage and before that, it was a major servicing done and the mechanic had cleaned the throttle body. To my surprise, my mechanic told me that my throttle body was very dirty. End up he has to clean my throttle body. 9k mileage was equivalent to approximately 4 months of my driving. I was using stock filter all the way at that time and the mechanic checked my air intake path and hose. There was no leakage. He diagnosed that this was possibly due to the dusty/dirty environment or road conditions which I have driven my car. To a certain extent, I agree as I am staying near the industrial estate in the North. I can see the 2 big giant joysticks with smoke emitting at the tip almost everyday. But that was not all. I drove anywhere and everywhere including highways, expressways, city driving though notably these days there are a lot more vans and lorries with more black exhaust fumes than ever. However, I find it hard to believe that after only 9k mileage, my throttle body is so dirty with using stock air filter. My filter is very black. Of course, the throttle body has not reached to the extent of making my idling erratic or engine stalled. I just cannot figure out why or the reason behind. Perhaps brothers here can enlighten me on any other possible causes. I am using 030 engine oil and platinum spark plugs for your information. Thanks!
  2. STOMPer Angry Mummy is frustrated that this mother in white blocked her baby's way to the finishing line during the Huggies Baby Crawling contest held yesterday (May 6) at the Singapore Expo. The organisers had apparently announced earlier that parents weren't allowed on the green mat, but went ahead to award the prize to the mother in white and her baby. In her email: "I had a really bad experience today and I just want to vent it out. I brought my 10-month-old DS to the Huggies Baby Crawling contest today at the motherhood exhibition@expo. "My baby boy did really well during the first round. Yes, I was proud because he knew exactly what to do. "He was the first to cross the finishing line and got through to the semi finals. He did well again in the semi-finals and was through to the final round. "The MC announced during the rounds that parents were not allowed on the green mat where the babies were supposed to crawl through as it was the finishing line. If any parent broke this rule, their baby would be disqualified from the contest. "If you watch the video clip, you

  13. anybody encounter before? last night, as i was moving off from the carpark lot, started engine and moved off slowly, i heard some noise from the rear left side of the car and the pickup was rather sluggish. i thought to myself, siao liao, is it bua tio anything. but i remember rear left side was clear. then i stopped and got off the car to inspect. to my horror, i discovered a cat kenna kiaped between the rear left tyre and the wheel guard it was in rather awkward position and not moving, but didnt see too closely and quickly went back to reverse the car to release it. as i reversed slowly, the cat struggled and made some noise and eventually got off from my car. it ran to a corner and stood there. then i move off slowly and drove away. i think the cat must be sleeping very soundly on the wheel and not woke up by my door opening/closing and ignition. upon reaching my destination, i came out to inspect again. i saw some traces of water marks on the tyre and noted a pungent smell. i guessed the cat might have siam sai/jio while being caught. went to get a pail and splashed 3 pails worth of water to get rid of the sai/jio smell. what an experience

  18. By Patwant Singh, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 05 July 2008 1225 hrs Photos 1 of 1 Levin Angsana SINGAPORE: The body of the undergraduate who went missing at sea after a sailing training session on Thursday, was found on Saturday. The body of 22-year-old Levin Angsana was recovered about 300 metres off Raffles Marina - a short distance from where the accident happened - at about 7.30am. The SMU student and four other sailors were returning to the marina after their training when the accident happened. The five were on board a 24-foot keel boat when Levin fell into the sea. According to a crew member, Levin was at the front of the boat trying to bring down the spinnaker - a sail which catches the wind. In the process, the spinnaker got hooked under the boat and he lost his balance and fell into the sea when he got down to a prone position to release it. Levin then tried to climb back into the boat, but was unsuccessful. Levin's family members were distraught and upset by the way things unfolded. Hannah Angsana, Levin's sister, said: "More precautions could have been taken. Further, rescue measures that could have been done in time were not. The Singapore naval divers were not activated fast enough. They arrived after dark. The fact that my brother could not swim and was not wearing a life vest at the point of the accident showed safety was not a priority." But according to the International Sailing Federation or ISAF, keel boat sailors do not need to wear life jackets while training or even racing. Singapore Sailing Federation had also told Channel NewsAsia on Friday that life jackets are only necessary if there are strong wind conditions and treacherous waters. Levin had obtained a Class 1 sailing licence last year, a requirement before he could sail. This showed he could sail solo and swim for up to 50 metres in open water while wearing a life jacket. The family is considering taking further action, but declined to elaborate on what this may be and against who. Meanwhile, the Singapore Management University (SMU) says that it will continue to give the family its full support. Professor Howard Hunter, president of SMU, said: "We are also trying to help the family in any other way we could....in connecting with the church and other arrangements that they want to make." The SMU's counsellor is also in touch with Levin's team mates to provide counselling and help them cope with the tragedy. Following the tragedy, SMU has suspended all sailing activities. It will also, together with a third party, review all its water-based activities. With the tragedy coming less than a year after the dragon boat tragedy in Cambodia where five Singaporean rowers drowned, some feel safety cannot be compromised. Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth and Sports, said: "If wearing a life jacket is necessary for safety precautions, we do that. I think that's the most important reminder we should give to every administrator and every athlete who has to train or perform activities at sea or in dangerous conditions..." Mr Teo added: "I believe Low Teo Ping, president of the Sailing Association, he's taking this very seriously. I believe he is looking into all of the SOPs and he's trying to understand. "This is such a painful lesson for every one of us. So we just have to take note of what we have to do now, close all the gaps possible. But we can only do so much with the rules. The system is there. Compliance is important." A wake will be held for Levin Angsana at the St Joseph's Church in Queen Street and the funeral will take place on Monday. - CNA/so/ir
  19. The government announced that we can recover our COE and PARF rebate in cash from september 2008. How much can I expect to receive if I were to sell the car body to an exporter with the option to recover the COE and PARF value direct from the government and get only the body value from the exporter. Hope fellow cerato owners with experience can provide some information. Mine's an Dec04 manual Hatchback Cerato. Thanks all for the information.

  21. Hi, I sent my car (Chevrolet Optra auto) for servicing over the weekend. One of the item was cleaning of the Throttle Body cleaning by using Carb cleaning spray. After the service, whenever when i start the car, there is a high rev sound and the rpm needle shoot up and stay around 3-4 region. Only when i shift to Neutral or drive gear, the sound and rpm goes back to normal at 1 region. My car is not so smooth as before and the vibration has increase noticetably. The mechanic that service my car said that it may be due to the carbon deposit after cleaning the Throttle body and ask me to drive for a couple of day and it should be ok. Is this normal, or the mechanic trying to cook up story for something wrong that he has done to my car ? Will cleaning of the Throttle Body affect the computerise tuning of the car ? Anyone who has experience care to share and know what is the possible problem ?? Thanks

It will be different for different people depending on what car you bought and loan how much how long etc. But i think it will give a rough guide which is good enough. Like recently, someone in this forum kenna robert when he traded in his Sep'04 sunny for only 1k body value. Thanks!
