  1. This clip show that Volvo car wins all of the German make car in their respective Emergency brake assist system conducted by ADAC. Audi, Merc, VW, Beemer & Inifintive all fail very badly in this test. Enjoy.....
  2. Hi all, Can any bros here recommend me a workshop to replace brake disc (Honda Ody RB1)? The problem is that when my car starts to move after it was parked for a few hours and when I stepped on the brakes gradually, there is an irritating squeaking sound coming out from my brakes. I replaced the brake pads (original) but still the problem occurs so I was thinking of changing my brake disc. Thanks alot.
  3. How to I know when my drum brakes are due for shoe change? A more proactive approach, and if possible, a DIY check instead of bring down to workshop.
  4. hii, workshop and i dunno the part no. how do you find out your own car part number for brake pad? front brake pad part number i know, but rear brake pad workshop say autodealer modified brake shoe to become brake pad, then the rear brake pad number how to find out?
  5. Just like to share a good experience on change of brake pad, my car is a 2009 Isis, one of the headaches i face is that it's supposed to be a WISH but it's not really a WISH since some parts are different and since its not too common, i do worry about getting the right parts. Anyways been going regularly to the same workshop in the north for some time, last 2 visits at 40K & 50K been getting asked to change pads and skim rotors. I kind of dragged my feet on this and actually dreading it..with the cost of it and how change of ATF, spark plugs etc coincided.. At 70K, i went to another workshop nearer my house (Pasir Ris) same story change pad and skim Price quoted very similar = $230- $250 for brake pad Skimming =$70-$120 I decided to do more research on the internet....more confused and worried...ISIS vs WISH which brake pad...and in terms of rotors more. Discovered some good toyota stockist. Eventually went with Ric -Tat at Owen road...very nice experience there. Confident with price of purchase and also correctness of part!!... Brake pad= $65 Rotors =$210 for a pair Surfed around internet and read about Seng Long at Bukit Merah Lane 3...called and spoke to the boss Alan. Agreed on a price..went down. Was well pleased when i got there no big crowd on a saturday afternoon...his mechanic Ah Wing worked on my car. He worked with focus on my car. I asked them to inform him if i needed to replace rotors, he touched them look carefully and said my rotors were in good shape!! he even told me my rotors were not possible to do a skim...too thin my model. Was impressed by the honesty Brakes pads were fitted, all the old dust from the old pads cleaned up. Later he checked once both sides changed My brake pads according to the mechanic could go a little more, he showed me the part(like a clip spring) that would cause noise once worn down!! anyways, he said it was a good time to change but my rotors could wait longer. I was just happy to get the job done by honest no nonsense honest workshop and look forward to doing more jobs with them! guess..with all the push to skim rotors and change pads at 40K made me bit disappointed with the regular place...i doubt they even open up my tyre to check...after fitting the new pads Ah wing cleaned a lot of old dust from my brakes!! Anyways just to share my saving experience...i have set of spare rotors may try to exchange for something else at Ric-tat or just keep since with the current COE...my car will surely get thru the current rotors

  10. Just wanna check with all Optra (auto) owners: When gear is in "D" and you slowly move off from standstill by very, very gradually releasing your foot brake, I get this loud metal crunching noise. I brought this up to the SE at Ubi and Alexandra branch, and both got the standard "It's like that" response, claiming other Optras and other cars (with auto trans) have this same problem......"it's normal" they say. My golden question: Do you guys have this noise problem too?
  11. For those using brembo or other bbk, would u pick dot4 or dot5.1? Which is better in term of performance and moist adsorbion?i
  12. When i shop for brake system and was planning to purchase big brake caliper and rotor, I was surprise to heard one of the stuff said i dont not need to buy all this expensive upgrade as he ask me go somewhere else to find electric to boost my brake. Well, i quickly look into internet is there sure thing and what i found http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/69A3151A0A0.aspx Really if want to have better stopping, increase size is not the issue?

  14. Hi guys. I've just installed a relay on my third brake light today to make it blink when braking. Any one seen one of these on the roads yet? I just wanna ask for ur views, whether do u think its distracting or a good warning signal. Basically its just a controller which makes ur current LED third/center brake light blink when the brakes are pushed. Basically its the similar concept as the one on the new RX-8 . What do u guys think?
  15. Which one will you choose? paint ur calipers? - did it before, now and then re-coat till paint too thick. not easy to clean cause brake dust like to stick deep into the high temp paint... brake covers? - plus point cleaning is so much easier! but many say calipers cant breath... silicon might fall off... made in china ones might melt... screw or rivet might damage or weaken calipers... worse is tat cover so big disc so small look funny... like poser... wat u think? upgrade disc to slotted or drilled - logically better performance? but daily stop go traffic in SG my friends use say pads finish faster... hmmmm... true? upgrade disc and rotors - unless you get ENDLESS or SPOON or Brembo or a good brand (means very expensive) cheaper one i have heard stories of excessive pad wear, leak, loose, not a perfect fit etc... haiz... So i thought, just spray a nice coat of high temp paint... then it wont look like poser / fake... BUT then i saw this shop in JB had this endless brake cover and my it looked good... really having 2nd thoughts now... i checked on the net (cgi.ebay.com.sg/RED-ENDLESS-Caliper-cover-kit)...and found out thailand does soooooo many types... think i might... just might.. maybe will try the brake covers... anyone knows where to get in SG? the latest endless types...
  16. Mine car only front 2 is disc brake, want to have a better feel when depressing the brake
  17. How come the handbrake is not able to 'lock' the rear wheel when the car is moving? Say in an emergency where your foot brake failed, then you pulled up the handbrake, but the car still go forward. Isn't the handbrake a 'back-up brake' to stop the car in such situation? Is it possible to 'tighten' my Jazz handbrake to make the rear brake more efffective to stop the car? How can I go about doing that? Or is the hand brake 'Purely' design to stop a stationary car from rolling off? So no one design the hand brake to be effective to stop a moving car?
  18. Hi all, Just like to share a very good & cheap lobang with all of you. I've had a real hard time locating caliper painter for the job. In the market I've only managed to get a few of them right now. However, many of them charges much higher as it involve taking out of wheel and spraying the caliper. There is actually no different for the finishing of our stock calipers by spray or paint as out caliper's surface is uneven and rough. Thus, I have decided to go for the cheaper alternative of painting. Below is a few of the choices. Please do not flame me as I hope this will benefit all the bros here looking for this service, as I had a real hard time locating them in the car market. 1)Name : SOH Brother-shop Service : Spraying Appointment : Only weekday with appointment Price : 2/5 Website : nil 2)Name : Nightz Concepts-shop( Look for dave ) Service : Spraying Appointment : Everyday with appointment Price : 1/5 Website : just google nightzconcepts 3)Name : streetcalipers-freelancer Service : painting. Appointment : Weekend only Price : 5/5 website : www.streetcalipers.blogspot.com I've chose streetcaliper to do this job. Pros: 1)Very good price 2)Did not take out rim as he said he was afraid alignment etc will not be right after wheel being taken out. 3)Very nice finishing, imo same as spraying 4)Very clean job, no stains etc on rim and any other where else. Cons: 1)Long working hours, he did about 4 hours for my ride but I guess it should be about the same with other shops? 2)Need to leave car keys with him because I want to have my lunch at the nearby area, but I did jot down his IC and took a photo of him. He also passed me his student card in exchanged. For pricing, i think it is not advisable to post it here, do pm me I'll tell you the pricing they quoted me fro all 3 company. Cheers, P/s: Please do not flame me, this is purely for the benefit for those who are looking for this service, as I really had a hard, hard time finding.

  23. Many people know what a station wagon is. Basically, it is a sedan car with its roof extended towards the rear and the rear boot is usually replaced with a lifting tail door. The station wagon comes in two distinct design; a four door (the most common design that we get to see) and a two door which is also known as a shooting brake. Many automakers give unique names for their station wagon versions. For example, Volkswagen names their station wagons as Variants. Other than that, we have heard of other version names for station wagons such as estate, carryall, touring, sportwagon and etc. But the most common names used are the station wagon, estate and shooting brake. If you are wondering how these 3 names come about, then read on. Back in the early era of the automotive industry, the first station wagons people got to see were the wooden-bodied Ford Model Ts and at that time there were known as
