  2. On and off, we have came across news about parents leaving their kid in locked car or at home, while rushing to run errands, but mostly nothing serious happened to the helpless young ones. This latest incident is really heart wrenching though... May the boy rest in peace. 5-year-old boy falls to his death after he was locked inside 8th floor Woodlands office SINGAPORE - A five-year-old who was accidentally locked inside his parents' eighth floor Woodlands Close office was found dead at the foot of the building on Saturday (Jan 5). Soo Jia He is believed to have attempted to escape through a window after he had been left alone for around 10 minutes, said his parents. Soo's mother, who gave her name only as Ms Hu, told Shin Min: "Our home is only a five-minute drive from the office. I couldn't believe that when we rushed back to the office, we would see my son's body lying on the ground floor." Ms Hu added that she noticed that the office window was opened when she returned to the scene. She believed that her son could have fallen from the window in a panic, having witnessed their car driving away, a friend of the family told The Straits Times at the boy's wake on Sunday. The police said that they were alerted to a fall from height case at 11 Woodlands Close at about 9pm. The boy was found lying motionless at the foot of the building and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. The police are investigating the unnatural death. Chinese-language newspaper Shin Min Daily News reported that the boy's parents had taken him and his brother to their office that day, and he had fallen asleep while they did some work. The couple run an education centre, though there were no lessons held on Saturday. When it was time to leave, the boy's father switched off the lights in the office and they drove home with his older brother. It was only when the couple arrived at the carpark of their home did they realise that they had left their son behind. When ST visited the building on Sunday afternoon, candles and joss sticks had been placed near the accident site - following a ritual the parents had commissioned for their son earlier that day. The boy was the youngest of the couple's four children and he was doted on dearly by everyone, said the boy's father, who wanted to be known only as Mr Soo. They have a daughter and two other sons, the oldest of whom is 18. The other two are in primary school and secondary school respectively. "It is a tragic accident that nobody could have foresaw", Mr Soo told ST at the boy's wake on Sunday night. He said both he and his wife had not slept since the accident the day before. He said: "We don't know for sure how it happened, but all that does not matter now, the end result is still the same. "Just like that, our son is gone. How are we going to be okay again?" And please, for the seek of the deceased and his parent, don't start questioning how could such things have happened, or condemning the parent, as they are already filled with guilt... Let just help to remind ourselves and people around us to be more careful and mindful when dealing with young children, and think twice about leaving them alone, even just for a short while...
  3. No more flats: Michelin and GM to bring airless tires to passenger cars by 2024 Sources: https://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/michelin-and-gm-aim-to-bring-airless-tires-to-passenger-cars-by-2024/ Plenty of things can go wrong when you’re driving a car, though thankfully the vast majority of trips go without a hitch. Tire punctures, for example, are a real headache, but thanks to a collaboration between Michelin and General Motors (GM), the deflating experience could soon be a thing of the past. Following years of research, Michelin announced this week that it’s ready to hit the road with UPTIS, its “unique puncture-proof tire system,” and is partnering with GM for real-world trials using Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles. Testing starts this year and if all goes well, airless tires could be coming to a passenger car near you as early as 2024. The tire’s all-important rib design is located between the aluminum wheel and the outer tread. It comprises a composite rubber and high-strength resin-embedded fiberglass material that offers plenty of give and durability. The tire is essentially a more advanced version of the Tweel, another airless design that Michelin unveiled nearly 15 years ago. Early issues with Michelin’s airless tires included excess noise and vibration compared to conventional designs, but fortunately these problems have since been overcome. AdvantagesAirless tires offer a number of advantages over the traditional design. For example, the elimination of annoying flats and potentially dangerous blowouts will lead to a reduction in waste products — Michelin puts the saving at 2 million tons a year — as fewer tires would be scrapped before reaching the end of their life cycle. They’ll also reduce the use of raw materials, energy for production, and emissions linked to the manufacture of spare and replacement tires that will no longer be required. And by ending the need to carry a spare tire, cars will also be lighter and therefore more efficient. Airless tires will also help businesses managing fleets of vehicles to run a more efficient operation as there’ll be no time lost to flats and general tire maintenance that includes inspections for damage and pressure checks. Testing the tire with the Chevrolet Bolts will put the design through its paces over an extended period, allowing engineers to see how well it handles a range of surfaces and challenging weather conditions. Looking at this latest development, Michelin’s long-running interest in airless tires looks like it could soon pay off.

  8. Wonder why SG doesn't have Mitsubishi Eclipse ? Price should be close to that of a Hyundai Coupe (Tuscani). Car may not be great in terms of engine specs & power. But the body design sure looks beautiful.... Currently in 4th Gen. 5th Gen coming out next year. Looks 10x better than Lancer EX.... Looks better than any EVO (my opinion only hor....) Maybe they should keep that chasis and throw in the EVO system.... MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 4th GEN 2005-2008
  9. Can anyone think or funny names for these brands ? BMW Bring Me Worries AUDI ?? Benz ?? Fiat ?? OPEL ?? GM Got Money ? Toyota ?? Honda ?? Mazda ?? Ford ??
  10. Wonder why no one brought in the ladas THey may be dated, but solidly built cars with simple engines, may have been a good proposition for a cheap opc with minimal maintenance IMHO still better than the china cars The Lada Nivas were well commended for its robustness and off road ability - able to withstand punishment I also find that the ladas have a some what muscular appeal to their design - poor man's range rover defender perhaps Also remembered a friend having a lada samara, the gears required brute force to shift but the engine note , and the way the car moves - feels like a chunk of brute force being propelled against the road, quite a nice feeling
  11. 57-year-old man was charged yesterday with committing a slew of sexual offences and indecent acts on a 13-year-old girl over two years. Roger Yue Jr is accused of 48 charges in total. The alleged offences occurred all over Singapore - from Pasir Ris beach to Jurong West - between October 2008 and July 2010. Some time between October and December 2008, he allegedly made the girl, who was then under 16, perform an indecent act at Lakeside MRT station. He allegedly committed multiple indecent acts on other occasions . Yue is said to have raped the girl twice in a Tampines flat and once in an abandoned building in Lavender Street in March 2009. He also allegedly tried to rape her twice - once at a "place with many trees" and at a pagoda at Chinese Garden in Jurong. The bulk of the charges are for sexual penetration of a minor. Among the places where the alleged offences occurred were a staircase leading to the back stage of a secondary school, a classroom at a primary school, a swimming pool at Home Team NS Sembawang, a multi-storey carpark stairway in Tampines Central 1, a deserted house in Rochester Park and a lookout tower at Jurong Heritage Trial. Bail of $70,000 was allowed. If convicted of the most serious offence of rape and sexual penetration, he could be jailed for up to 20 years and fined. Yue will appear in court again on Feb 19. 15. I have a friend who suspects that one of his family members might be suffering from bipolar disorder or some mental illness. His family members are thinking of sending him to see a mental doctor. However, it might not be so easy to convince him to go to the clinic to seek treatment. Does anyone have any experience?
  16. Lazy Shanghai man takes dog for walk -- while driving his BMW Quote:A man was recently spotted taking his dog for a walk at the Shanghai Jiading District, which sounds perfectly normal, until you realise the man was behind the wheel of a white BMW. NDTV reports that the unusual sight was caught on surveillance cameras, and footage shows the white BMW being driven with the trunk wide open and a leash trailing out. A visibly tired German Shepard is attached to one end of the leash, and can be seen panting even though the BMW is not going fast. Impatient drivers following behind the BMW sounded their horn while the driver cruised along. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/si...riving-his-bmw German car stroll with German Dog, this guy very creative but idiot
  17. Will be going to West Africa (Ivory Coast & other countries) soon . Want to find out from those who have been there what medicine to bring along besides mosquito repellent, malaria pills etc? Have gotten the yellow fever vaccination
  18. This may be a redundant question, but what would your opinion be on this matter? A 2.4L camry makes about 160hp. Quite a poor figure as opposed to Honda's average 160hp 2.0L K20A3/K20Z2 engines that we see on BnB Accords and Civics. A 1.6L 20V Blacktop/Silvertop 4AGE could easily make 160-170hp right out of the box with lots of room to spare. It also weighs considerably less than most engines today. If they updated their Blacktop/Silvertop engine to 2.0L in displacement, the engine could push out about 260+hp if they use better intake/exhaust ports and newer VVTi. That would be close to Evo territory and keep in mind, all of this while still being NA. If fitted onto their upcoming upcoming Supra (FT-HS) with a small turbo, then nb can reach 400hp minimum liao
