  1. Alamak... the driver thought he can act smart and change bus route to avoid jam. High flyer reporter 吴良祥 so heng trapped inside the bus! Congrats on the scoop!
  2. Going out next Friday night, also what to say during the conversation. I have been out of the game for so long.
  3. Seek opinion from all the "family man" out there Took leave to bring my kids out due to school holiday next Monday (Youth Day). But then thinking that it could rain heavily these days, IF it rains, where is a nice, interesting place to bring the kids that's weather-proof?? This is Plan B in case of bad weather. Thanks.
  4. I think that upon ORD, NSmen should be allowed to take their guns home along with a container of sealed ammo. If a crisis really happens, everyone can come out shooting. Of course there needs to be some checks and protocols in place. For example, people cannot carry a rifle in public with a magazine inserted. Some people will worry that the rifles will be used to commit crimes. But if somebody is really intent on commiting a crime, even a kitchen knife will do. In fact a knife is even better than a rifle because it is easier to conceal. SAFRA can also have a rifle range so NSmen can practise their marksmanship. No, I do not need to take medication and if I am not wrong, IDF people can bring their guns home.
  5. ST Forum Page 8 Mar Monday: If you have the time, go read the replies posted by Anuradha Singh and Balaji Prasad in response to the post of James Ang's " 'Foreign' doesn't always mean 'Talent' " and Laurelle Ho's " Employment Enclaves".... interesting how these FTs fight back.... Basically based on my personal experience, pple from certain countries are known (most of the pple i know agree with it) to be good in twisting their words and appear as a 'good workers' when they are the slackers behind the bosses.... it's a well know fact although there are also exceptions but rare. It can be due to cultural background etc, I will avoid them if I can but will only advise my other friends to find out for themselves and do not follow my comments. Watch out though, such pple can soon be imposing their own values and habits (good or bad, we'll see) on our society when they think they are no longer 'guests' and start putting demands on the society based on their expectations...... not that they have contributed a bit in the past 50 years in building up the place. We gotta buck up and address this before it's too late. Please correct me if you like.
  6. How often you bring your kids to the park/library as compared with shopping malls?? ...... Nothing wrong with trips to the malls, but personally my wife and I prefer spending time with my kids away from the malls
  7. I had this strange encounter at the 2nd Link immigration checkpoint recently. Although a weekday, and there were relatively very few cars driving into Singapore, there was a long queue on the Singapore side as all the cars were jammed into two lanes for 100% inspection. Every single vehicle stopped and searched. I was thinking to myself... looking for ciggies or something? Then when my turn came, it turns out that they considered the KFC I bought at the gelang patah rest area as a kind of contraband as well . Accordingly I was told that even cooked meat like satay cannot be brought over to singapore due to agri food vet auth requirement. Now I'm thinking that fresh meat is definitely no-no, but fried and cooked?? I'm not sure if the aux police know what they're saying, so I dashed off an enquiry to the authority, at the same time wonder if bros here had the same weird encounter recently?? Good news is that they let me have my KFC in the end. I suppose it's because I bought just a small amount - one adult meal and one kid meal - not enough for a KFC party
  8. My ride's rim already turn a bit gold-brown when I compare with those new rides...does any of the rim polishes on shelves helps to bring back that shiny look? how about durogloss wheel cleaner?
  9. As topic, I know the Ford Fiesta, as well as KA, are Europe only models. However since we drive on the wrong, I mean left side of the road as U.K, I don't see why we can't have it in Singapore.
  10. Hi all As in the topic title, can I bring a coffee bought in the transit area up a plane in Changi Airport? Thanks.
  11. hi there, i see many people shaking their car so that they can pump to the last drop of petrol before leaving JB. but wan to know won't it be easier to just bring one container made for holding petrol. saw these container before > 7liters + it this possible?
  12. KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign-registered vehicles will only be allowed to pump maximum 20 litres of fuel when travelling within 50km radius from the border, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. Enforcement authorities at the checkpoints were also directed to ensure such vehicles leave the country with no more than 20 litres of fuel in each tank, said the Domestic, Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism Minister. Ministry officers were in the midst of issuing a circular on the matter to petrol stations in affected areas. "This measure is to curb increasing cases of fuel smuggling, as the prices for fuel are subsidised and cheaper compared to prices set by neighbouring countries such as in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia," he said. THAT means if u go in with 3/4 tank of petrol ( about 30 litre ) under Singapore ruling, you have to throw your petrol somewhere or burn it before you can leave Malaysia and return to Singapore under Malaysia ruling. Very stressed lifestyle.. Here government make us go over with 3/4 tank and there the government make us return with 20 litre maximum ( 1/3 tank ) . Indeed, Singaporeans are suckers being pushed around everywhere in our own countries and other countries. The Singapore government must be smiling and preparing for another major "upsize" of salaries since billions of petrol dollars will flow from Malaysia into Singapore coffers even when the Sg government did absolutely nothing. No wonder they are the best paid in the world.
  13. Last night, together with another 2 friends we went to a Chinese restaurant @ Internation building to have buffet dinner. We reached the restaurant about 6:50pm and sitted quite near from the kitchen. We placed some orders for appetizer and some main course. The first 2 appetizer were served in about 5 min later. After that we waited and waited, finished eating the 2 appetizer, the rest of the food still are not served. We ask the waitress, they say its coming... Another 20 min gone so we asked for the lady manager. She say kitchen short handed but the food will be served shortly. Then she walked towards the kitchen and shouted to the kitchen crews in hokkien, "Table 21 hurry up, table 21 Kao pei liao!" It was so loud that 3 of us can hear clearly. Then I asked the manager why she say us "Kao pei"? We asked her politely and the food indeed are very slow in serving. She apologized and say not enough staffs in the kitchen and worked till very stress. I say we also worked till very stress so after work meet for dinner. Somemore, celebrating on of our friend birthday. She then say oh, happy birthday to my friend and say she dun mean to say us. Its just the way they talk to the kitchen crews. Asking us not to mind about it. We ordered mussels but waited for 2 hours then they serve. They say they missed out this food together with 3 other dishes. In fact we already asked them when we waited for 1 hour they say ok they will serve but still din serve.. We were saying try not to spoil our own mood, since settled down liao then jus enjoy ourselves. But... If you were me, will you bring up to their management? Call in? Write in?

  15. Four ways to bring down flat prices http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BFor...ry_430779.html I APPLAUD the new measures by the Government to curb speculation in the property market and reinstate the Government Land Sales Programme. However, they do little to alleviate the structural problems at the root of the resale HDB market and the frustrations of many home seekers. It is too easy to blame cash over valuation (COV) for the rampant rise in resale prices or repeat continuously that resale HDB flats are affordable. Four measures could be taken to significantly improve the supply of resale HDB flats and thus lower prices. HDB flats should be affordable housing only for genuine home owners who occupy the flats. They should not be used for investment or rental income. The resale market is still tight because many owners, who have already moved out, are simply holding on to their property or hoping for a collective sale. If owners do not live in their flats any more, they should be put on the market immediately. There should be an income and assets cap for owners of HDB flats. If the owners are very successful in life after buying an HDB flat, they should leave their property on reaching a certain threshold and sell it. It is not right that families with multiple properties and very high salaries are able to hold on to their HDB flats. Have a staggered income ceiling instead of a blanket one of $8,000, applicable across all HDB flats ranging from $200,000 to $600,000. For example, have an $8,000 income ceiling for flats valued below $400,000, a $10,000 ceiling for flats valued above that and below $600,000, and $12,000 ceiling for flats valued above $600,000. Take property agents out of the equation. HDB should stimulate and facilitate direct owner-buyer contact. I urge HDB to consider these measures to tackle the problem at its root and let go of its free-property-market thinking. Lim Hing Kok WHAT DO U ALL THINK OF HIS SUGGESTIONS?

  19. Hi All, I need good advices on what i should do to bring down such errant taxi drivers. Driver of SILVERCAB SHC60XXT attempted to knock me down along the pedestrian crossing at Bideford Road. Crossing from Swenson's Orchard towards Paragon. Here's the story: It was a crowded night, combination of pedestrians and cars. One thing about that junction at bideford road, there is no yellow box at the intersection (the place where u cross from Swenson's Orchard towards Taka.) And now they even have those diagonal crossing for pedestrian and as such, the LT EHH feels that a yellow box is not crucial. So many drivers tend to jam up the road in the centre evenwhen the pedestrians are already crossing at Bideford road, they beat the red light and we pedestrians are unable to cross. I was there around 10+ PM on 29/12/07, green man, so my gf, sister n me crossed the road. One WRX zoomed past the pedestrian almost knocked a boy down. Then come a couple other cars horning and expect pedestrian to give way even when its green man. The cars on the main road that leads towards centrepoint are already horning cos these few idiots are blocking the road and that leads them to drive through the pedestrian crossing. We were already in the middle of the crossing, then the red man light went on. One taxi, instead of understanding and having the courtesy rev his engine and move towards my knees. It was so close till i had to balance myself by slamming my hand on his bonnet. Once i gain momentum, the farker still rev his engine n got the intention to knock me down again by moving a little forward. I was so furious, i moved to the side of the taxi - i fark THAT IDIOT like a mad gorilla shouting vulgarities in front of everyone else for a good 30secs(I was so going crazy, u would the same thing if it happened to u as its that bad!). That IDIOT still got the cheek to point me middle finger before driving away. i so wanted to kick his car door and drag him out. But something tells me that would make matters worst. Well anyway, to cut the story short, i called SILVERCAB hotline to report the incident. They dont have GPS and so they could only get back to me in 2 days. They bringing up the matter to HQ. What should i do next? Report to POLICE (go police post - but report as what? Recklessness?_ or call TP hotline (Do they have a hotline no. for recklessness?) Appreciate your help. Thanks I'm a driver too. Good thing i wasnt knocked down or else, my car windsreeen got to put handicap decal loh (CHOI!). CB Taxi Driver Ah Pek!
