  4. <Aston Martin V12 Vantage officially coming in 2022 Aston Martin’s dreamy small body/big engine combo is back, a new V12 Vantage is coming next year The Aston Martin V12 Vantage is officially on its way for the 2022 model year, with confirmation a top-spec Vantage is set to return to top the current Vantage range. Destined to follow the well-trodden and desirable path of shoehorning Aston’s most potent engine into its most compact model, the new V12 Vantage has already been spotted in its development phase and so far promises to be one of next year’s most exciting supercars. Official details are still scarce, but we do know that Aston Martin will be utilising a twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine borrowed from both the DB11 and DBS models. Peak power is unconfirmed, but we suspect given the DBS’s flagship status that power will instead reside somewhere between the DB11 AMR’s 630bhp and the 700bhp of the DBS. Like all modern Aston Martin sports cars, power will likely be sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF, rather than the Mercedes-sourced nine-speed found in the new DBX. This is mostly due to its location on the rear axle, which will also help the inevitable shift in weight distribution given the considerable weight gain from the V12 engine. We also know that both Vantage and DB models are due an update in the near future, suggesting that the V12 Vantage might introduce some of these elements, some of which might have already appeared in the limited-run V12 Speedster. This might include an adoption of the V12 Speedster’s dash layout, which is completely different to both the current Vantage and DB, incorporating more touch-sensitive control elements and a larger touchscreen interface that features a newer version of Mercedes’ MBUX interface. Exterior styling should also be given a substantial update to coincide with the V12 engine, incorporating new front and rear bumpers alongside a modern interpretation of the distinctive slatted bonnet that dominated the previous generation V12 Vantage’s aesthetic. We’ll have to wait until next year to quantify these ruminations upon its reveal, but the one thing we do know is that this V12 Vantage won’t be a limited edition, but rather a final edition, as Aston Martin has since confirmed that it won’t produce any more V12 Vantages after this model’s production run is through. With tightening emissions regulations, and the push towards new hybridised powertrains in its future supercars like the Valhalla, it looks like time is being called on this most iconic of Aston Martin nameplates, but let’s just be thankful we’ve got one more generation to enjoy.>
  5. Britain's Queen Elizabeth has summoned her grandson Prince Harry for a crisis meeting to discuss future arrangements for him and his wife Meghan following the couple’s shock announcement that they want to step back from royal duties. Prince Harry’s father Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, and his elder brother Prince William, will also attend the meeting, due to take place on Monday (Jan 13) at the queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, eastern England, a Buckingham Palace source told Reuters. Meghan, an American former TV actress, will try to join via telephone from Canada where she returned earlier in the week to rejoin the couple’s baby son, Archie. Prince Harry and Meghan, officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, surprised the rest of the royal family last Wednesday by publicly announcing they wanted a “new working model” that would allow them to spend more time in North America and to be financially independent. They did not consult the 93-year-old monarch or other members of the family before making their announcement on a new website, sussexroyal.com, a move which hurt and disappointed the queen and other royals, according to a royal source. The split between Prince Harry and the other Windsors is the latest crisis the royal family has faced in a period described last month as “bumpy” by the queen in a televised annual address. Such is the global interest in Prince Harry and Meghan that their news has overshadowed a scandal surrounding the queen’s second son Prince Andrew and his friendship with disgraced late US financier Jeffrey Epstein, who hanged himself in jail in August while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. In an emotional TV interview last October, Prince Harry admitted he and Prince William had fallen out. The Sunday Times newspaper said the elder prince had spoken of his sadness at the rift. The brothers were close for years following the death of their mother Princess Diana in a Paris car crash in 1997. The newspaper quoted William as saying to an unnamed friend:“I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that any more, we’re separate entities. “I’m sad about that. All we can do, and all I can do, is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page. I want everyone to play on the team.” This isn't a crisis la. Australia is a crisis. Not this. Hmmm.

  8. What happened to angmoh standard of Human Rights? Britain's MI6 aided torture of Nepal Maoists, book claims British authorities funded a four-year-long intelligence operation in Nepal that led to Maoist rebels being arrested, tortured and killed during the country's civil war, according to the author of a new book on Kathmandu. Launched in 2002, "Operation Mustang" targeted Maoist guerillas and saw British intelligence agency MI6 fund safe houses and provide training in surveillance and counter-insurgency tactics to Nepal's army and spy agency, the National Investigation Department (NID), writer Thomas Bell told AFP Saturday. Nepal's decade-long civil war left more than 16,000 dead, with rebels and security forces accused of serious human rights violations including killings, rapes, torture and disappearances. "According to senior Nepalese intelligence and army officials involved in the operation, British aid greatly strengthened their performance and led to about 100 arrests," said Bell, whose book "Kathmandu" hits stores in South Asia on Thursday. "It's difficult to put an exact number on it, but certainly some of those who were arrested were tortured and disappeared," he said. Maoist commander Sadhuram Devkota, known by his nom-de-guerre "Prashant", was among those captured during "Operation Mustang" in November 2004. Six weeks later, he was found hanging from a low window in his cell, with officials saying he had committed suicide. Despite protests, no independent investigation was ever carried out. British authorities helped construct a bug-proof building in the NID headquarters, created a secure radio network for communications and supplied everything from cameras to computers to mobile phones and night vision binoculars, according to Bell's sources in the Nepalese security establishment. "The agency also sent a small number of British officers to Nepal, around four or five -- some tied to the embassy, others operating separately," Bell said. The officers gave the Nepalese training in how to place bugs, how to penetrate rebel networks and how to groom informers. - 'They knew what was happening' - Bell spent about a year interviewing some 20 highly-placed sources to corroborate the details of the operation, and said a senior western official told him the operation was cleared by Britain's Foreign Office. A Foreign Office spokeswoman told AFP: "We do not comment on intelligence matters but, as we have repeatedly made clear, the UK does not participate in, solicit, encourage or condone the use of torture or cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment. "In no circumstances will UK personnel ever be authorised to take such action; we neither condone such activity, nor do we ask others to do it on our behalf. "We would never authorise any action in the knowledge or belief that torture would take place at the hands of a third party." A Nepalese general with close knowledge of the operation told the writer there was no doubt that British authorities realised that some of the arrested suspects would be tortured and killed. "Being British they must have thought about human rights also, but they knew exactly what was happening to them," the general said. "The thing must have been approved at a high level." Bell said it was "a peculiar contradiction that while calling for an end to abuses... the British were secretly giving very significant help in arresting targets whom they knew were very likely to be tortured". The British-born writer covered Nepal's civil war from 2002 to 2007, reporting for The Economist and the South China Morning Post before moving to Bangkok for a two-year stint as The Daily Telegraph's Southeast Asia correspondent. Tejshree Thapa, senior researcher at the Asia division of Human Rights Watch, said: "Nepal's army was known by 2002 to be an abusive force, responsible for... summary executions, torture, custodial detentions". "To support such an army is tantamount to entrenching and encouraging abuse and impunity," Thapa told AFP. Nepal army spokesman Jagdish Chandra Pokharel denied all knowledge of the operation, which apparently continued even after a coup in February 2005 by the then-king Gyanendra seizing direct control prompted the British to publicly suspend all military aid to the country. "I have no idea about MI6 training the Nepal army or any Operation Mustang," Pokharel told AFP. Nepal is in the process of drafting a new constitution, a key step in a stalled peace process begun after the end of the civil war in 2006. http://news.yahoo.com/britains-mi6-aided-torture-nepal-maoists-book-claims-025143311.html

  10. This is probably one of the most spectacular-looking and second most talked about Jaguar concept of recent (The first, of course, is the C-X75 hypercar which, sadly, will never make it to daylight). So what's so spectacular about this, you may ask? First, it packs a 5.0-litre V8 with 550bhp, capable of catapulting the roadster to 100km/h in just over four seconds. Secondly, it is based on the ultra-sexy F-Type that made its local debut not too long ago. Then, there is the 'hump' which sits behind the driver, paying homage to the legendary Jaguar D-Type. A crash-course on the history of the D-Type: it is one of the most successful race car from the prancing cat (no pun intended), having won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in a row for Jaguar from 1955 to 1957. Till date, Jaguar has taken a total of seven Le Mans wins - hence the name 'Project 7'. And we reckon that this is one of the coolest ways for Jaguar to highlight its racing pedigree. Unlike most concept cars, the Project 7 actually runs. At last month's Goodwood Festival of Speed, for instance, the cat pounced up the hill climb course, beaming and basking in the attention of the crowd. Just in case you haven't noticed, the feline badge puts on a pair of shades on the concept - perhaps the marque's way to telling you that this is a real cool car. Production? Maybe not. But it certainly puts a smile on the fans.
  11. The BAC Mono is probably one of the most fun-to-drive track car of recent. It is likely to be one of the fastest too. Fans of Top Gear would especially find it familiar - the car was presented recently and stole the limelight when it propelled itself to the second top spot on the lap times chart. So what is the BAC Mono all about? Built by the Cheshire-born brothers - Neill and Ian Briggs - the BAC Mono was conceived with car enthusiasts in mind. Mono (short for monoposto or single seat) was designed to provide formula race car levels of handling and performance - hence an equivalent level of thrill. At 520bhp/tonne, the Mono has a power to weight ratio that supercedes that of the Bugatti Veyron. The result is a 0-96km/h in a mere 2.8 seconds and onto 160km/h in just 6.7 seconds. As with any track racers, sheer straight-line speed is not everything. But worry not, the Mono has the Briggs brothers' expertise to take care of things. All in all, 15 years of experience in the industry. To ensure that the Mono is a bang-on hit, the brothers sought the expertise of others. For instance, the aerodynamics were optimised with help from Stuttgart University. The car is constructed out of carbon fibre, with a turbular steel safety cell for the driver - a concept similar to that of a DTM race car. Then, there is the 2.3-litre unit from Cosworth, mounted longitudinally for better weight distribution. Suspension is rose-jointed, aero profiled push rod, with adjustable dampler from Sachs Racing. Brakes are courtesy of AP Racing. The list goes on. To us, the functional design of the Mono is simply stunning to look at. While we can't say an absolute no, there is a very slim chance that we'll ever get to try it. So to top it all off, a little competition is always interesting and exciting. Jump to the video below to see two drivers pit their skills in the Mono. P.S.: not just any driver - Ron Simons is a driving instructor at the Nurburgring; Sabine Schmitz a German professional racing driver, who is widely known as 'Queen of the Ring' with her two-time overall victories at the 24 Hr of Nurburgring in a BMW. http://dai.ly/x128g8e
  12. The Formula One circus will be back to outwit and outlast each other this weekend at the British Grand Prix - to take place at the iconic Silverstone circuit. But just seven days after - certain teams will return to lend their support to the Motor Sports Association's inaugural Go Motorsport Live! on the July 7th - which also happens to be the German Grand Prix. With free public access, Go Motorsport Live! has been introduced as part of National Motorsport Week (U.K.) to encourage more people to get involved in all areas of motorsport. A wide range of enthusiast motor clubs, championships, teams and other organisations will provide displays and offer advice to help newcomers get started in the sport, whether as a competitor, volunteer or spectator. So essentially it sounds like one of those open houses we have here by the Air Force or Home Team only this time its all about high octane and two pairs of wheels. Visitors to Go Motorsport Live! will not only be able to see one of the Marussia F1 Team's cars up close but they will also have the chance to win factory visits to both the Sahara Force India and Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One teams. Sahara Force India is situated opposite the entrance to Silverstone and will be offering 50 lucky visitors a unique opportunity to visit the F1 team's headquarters. There will also be a chance for four Go Motorsport Live! visitors to win a factory tour at Mercedes AMG F1 at a later date. As a further attraction to Formula One fans, Silverstone will be offering hot laps on the southern section of its Grand Prix circuit as well as tours of its imposing new Wing pits. Visitors will even be offered the chance to stand on the F1 podium.
  13. The garage or workshop as we know it, is usually run by men. It's a different case if you pay a visit to the garage 'Caroline's Car'. Situated in Norwich, England, this is an all-women garage (probably the first in the world, too!) that is owned and run by women. It was established a decade ago and has now received hundreds of loyal female customers. Yet, what attracts me more is how this garage started in the first place. Well, after performing some research, I figured out that the owner, Caroline Lake, 42, used to work as an intern at a common garage. She worked at the garage for four sad years during which she didn't get paid. Can you imagine it, four straight years without being paid? That sucks! However, her hard work eventually paid off as she became the first British woman to receive a legitimate tester certificate from the U.K.'s Ministry of Transport. It was the increasing number of women who complained about their experiences at the garage she was working at that inspired Lake to start her own garage. According to her, most of the time, women were deceived by men who were supposedly more knowledgeable when it comes to cars. She said that it was common for women to be told that their cars needed huge fees in order to get it repaired. Heck, even worse, male mechanics at some automotive garage even tend to try and buy longer, yet unnecessary, time in repairing a woman's car just so that they can discuss about - not the car but the woman instead - sorry, my apology in advance if what I said may have offended you. While it's discouraging, it's the truth that Lake found out. With that being said, Lake was determined to start her own garage where women will no longer be deceived and that they can have real and convenient car service experiences. Thanks to her determination and guarantee that there'll be no female customers deceived, plenty of women in her area preferred to have their car serviced at Lake's. Quite amusingly, Lake's garage, Caroline's Car, has one typical characteristic. It is mandatory that every single employee wears a pink uniform. I'll tell you what, Lake has also recruited a male mechanic who is meant to help with heavy-duty tasks that women are unlikely to carry out themselves and this male mechanic has to wear a pink uniform too. Having seen quite a huge success with her garage, Caroline Lake is now considering the possibility of offering her business as a franchise. She claims to be interested in expanding her business, at least in her home country. In fact, she has even started offering special courses and opening mechanical test centres to attract more women into the odds and ends of the automotive world.

  15. The 360-degree advertising wrap that took place for the past two weeks on the underground tube from Nissan's advertising team covered the walls, ceiling and floor of the walkway to the Bakerloo and Victoria lines inside Oxford Circus station. The campaign highlighted Nissan's Connect technology that allows drivers to plot a journey on any device and send it remotely to their car. Featuring the strap-line 'Turn every drive into a ride with Google Send-to-Car technology', the advert gave patrons of the tube the impression that they
  16. You know what they say, "Do whatever you want, just don't get caught!" Unfortunately (or thankfully, perhaps), these teenage car thieves in the United Kingdom don't seem quite knowledgeable about such a saying. Instead, these thieves just seemed so proud of their 'stealing' ability that they even shot pictures of themselves with the cars they had successfully stolen. What amazes me more is that they even posted the pictures on Facebook, a world renowned social media, and on their phones! This led the local police to catch them red-handed, or should I say, 'bread-handed' (you'll see why). It's a real 'shame' to the world of Grand Theft Auto. Speaking of Grand Theft Auto, it reminds me of the action adventure packed car theft game, the latest trailer of which will be shown on 30th April 2013. Alright, let's get back to topic. To be honest with you, these teenagers, aged from 18-23 years old, were quite an expert indeed. Comprising eight members, they managed to successfully steal nine high performance sports cars that were, and still are, very expensive. Porsches, Range Rovers, BMWs, and a Mercedes Coupe worth
  17. We have seen many luxury automakers that have lent their name to daily usable products. You would have probably seen Lamborghini laptops, Ferrari headphones etc. And now, Aston Martin is the next automaker to use their name on an everyday item used by many - a baby pram. The pram is made by British company known as Silver Cross and each pram is said to be priced around 2,000 British Pounds (around SGD$3,700). The pram will be sold exclusively at luxury retailer Harrods. The pram shares several elements from Aston Martin cars. The aluminium wheels are designed to match the ones from the Aston Martin One-77 supercar. Alcantara is used to trim the seats and premium leather for the handles. The luxurious pram also receives an air suspension which provides for a smooth ride and comfortable pushing. The pram will be a limited item as only 800 units will be made and each will come with a certificate of authenticity including an engraved plaque finished in brushed chrome. Looks like some deep-pocketed parents do not have to wait until graduation to give their children a luxurious ride.
  18. Officials from the British GT3 racing series have rejected applications from Sony's GT Academy to race in the 2013 season. It seems that the drivers from the academy are just too fast. For those who are not familiar with Sony's GT Academy, it is a programme which gives video game players of its Gran Turismo series an opportunity to be a real life racing driver. The GT Academy is the promotional brainchild of Sony Playstation Europe and Nissan was brought in to aid in this programme. Every year, since 2008, virtual life racers enter an online racing competition and the eventual winners will be given a chance to prove their skills on a real life racing track. The programme has been very successful and the first winner, Jann Mardenborough, participated in the British GT series in a Nissan GT-R with racing team RJN Motorsport. Competition rules dictate that a professional driver should be paired with an amateur driver and the amateur driver
  19. The Lotus Exige S is a fast performance machine. It comes with either a 1.8-litre straight four or a 3.5-litre V6 supercharged engine and it is not surprising that many track enthusiasts see the car as a good model to hit the racing tracks. But if someone wants something more hardcore, then read on; as Lotus has unveiled two race ready Exige models which are known as the Lotus Exige V6 Cup and V6 Cup R. Both cars are based on the V6 equipped Lotus Exige S and are built to tackle both the streets and the tracks; in other words, both cars are road legal. Both cars were recently showcased at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The V6 Cup variant makes 345bhp from the supercharged V6 engine and is able to complete the century sprint in less than 3.8 seconds. The car weighs in at 1079kg and is fitted with many racing equipment such as an FIA approved roll cage and a six point safety harness. Two way adjustable suspensions and AP Racing four piston callipers are found on all four corners of the car. The car is also equipped with Lotus
  20. A British engineering company, Xtrac, specialists of high performance and race car grade transmissions, have designed a hybridised automated manual transmission (H-AMT; designated code 1010). This particular transmission design allows future luxury and performance cars to meet the 95g/km CO2 emission requirements that will be introduced by European legislators in 2020. The crucial technical part of the transmission system is the integrated electric motor. The electric motor enables the vehicle to travel at speeds of up to 152km/h on electric power alone after which; engine power kicks in. The transmission is said to be able to handle torque figures from 800Nm to 1000Nm, depending on vehicle gross weight and application. The above mentioned speed range allows torque infill up to the fourth gear during heavy acceleration and in all gears, up to the threshold speed, during low speed driving; when it is considered desirable to keep the engine revs low which will improve vehicle efficiency. The term 'torque infill' - refers to the application of additional torque from the transmission to the road wheels during the period of a gear change. In a conventional transmission system, torque is interrupted to allow the shift to complete. The ability to provide torque to the road wheels, independent of the engine, reduces the energy absorbed by the main drive clutch during the vehicle launch pull-away condition which can lead to clutch downsizing and also reduction in drive plate and flywheel inertia. This is seen as an additional benefit in hybridising an automated manual transmission. The Xtrac 1010 H-AMT is designed as an alternative to heavier and more complex dual clutch transmissions. It has lesser parts and lighter in overall weight and also offer increased functionality over single electric motor hybrid systems. Although dual clutch gearboxes do not suffer from power interruptions either, the company stresses that its products are less complex, lighter and are more efficient than DCTs. The seven speed transmission offers multiple modes of internal combustion engine and electric motor operation and with an overall ratio spread of 6:1, which is higher than most other transmissions in the market today. 21. [extract] Storied tuner and engine builder, Cosworth, is known for its involvement in performance motors and also in the Formula One. Cosworth is best known for its long affiliation with Ford but they have also worked with other automakers such as Subaru. Cosworth was a major player in the Formula One for many years but somehow their involvement in Formula One ended in 2006 when they lost the contract to supply their engines to Formula One racing cars. And now, it seems that the company
  22. Just a couple of months ago, Mini announced that they will expand their line-up with a new model and that model will be the all new Mini Paceman. The Paceman is styled as a coupe interpretation of the Countryman and it is set for a launch in the United Kingdom in March 2013. Four versions of the Paceman will be made available when it arrives, including the Mini Cooper S Paceman which will have a 0-100km/h timing of around 7.5 seconds. The seventh unique member of the Mini family will sit alongside the Hatch, Clubman, Convertible, Countryman, Coupe and Roadster. The Paceman has been created to appeal to a new type of design-conscious customer. The prominent horizontal lines and dynamic curved surfaces give the promise of sporting performance, yet there is an elegant simplicity to the overall form of the car. The three door Paceman is built on the Countryman platform. Bumper to bumper the car is 4,109 mm (4,115mm for the Mini Cooper S Paceman and Cooper SD Paceman), which makes it almost identical in size to its sibling. The upright front grille, complete with hexagonal radiator grille and broad chrome surround, gives the Paceman genuine presence. Its coupe-style stretched side profile features long doors, while the blacked-out pillars create a 'floating' roof concept, as already seen on the Mini Coupe. Available in either black, white or body colour, the roof gently slopes towards the rear of the car, ending at the spoiler. The horizontal arrangement of the rear lights, which accentuates the car's width, is a first for Mini. The Paceman is the only member of the brand's line-up to be identified by a rear nameplate. The car's interior has been designed specifically for this model. Its highlight is the innovative rear seat, which has been styled around a lounge concept. Two individual chairs provide generous levels of head, shoulder and knee room with outstanding comfort and support. Armrests have been integrated into the rear trim. A two section version of the Mini Centre Rail storage and attachment system (first seen in the Countryman) comes as standard. Paceman customers will have the choice of four powerful four cylinder engines, two petrol and two diesel. All come with a six speed manual gearbox, or the optional six speed automatic with Steptronic function for manual control. The base model will be fitted with a 1.6 litre engine that generates around 122bhp, with a 0-100km/h timing of 10.4 seconds. The Mini Cooper S Paceman will get a similar engine but tuned to deliver 184bhp and a 0-100km/h timing of 7.5 seconds. There are also two diesel engines offered. First is a 1.6 litre unit that makes around 112bhp and the flagship diesel model will get a 2.0 litre unit that churns out 143bhp. Mini
  23. Mazda UK used an MX-5 for competition in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship and the MX-5 takes on established GT cars from Lotus and Aston Martin. A race at Brands Hatch in the month of June brought the first podium finish (third place) for the team and in August, the team won second place in another race. Following the success of the Mazda MX-5 GT4 race car in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship, Mazda UK and Jota Sport will be building customer MX-5 GT4 race cars to order for use in the 2013 season. The Mazda MX-5 GT4 is built by Jota Sport costs around
  24. When it comes to exotic sports and GT cars, many would say that the Italians make the best ones. But some would argue that the British are good at it too. Just take a look at the car in the pictures here. It is a Trident Iceni Grand Tourer. The United Kingdom has many small/medium sized sports car makers that makes unique cars for buyers who are looking for something a little out of the ordinary and Trident is one of them. The Trident Iceni Grand Tourer is a two-seater roadster with a diesel powered engine. The car is fitted with a General Motor-sourced 6.6 litre turbodiesel engine. The engine can run on regular diesel, biodiesel, mineral diesel, palm oil and linseed oil. The engine makes around 430bhp and 1288Nm of torque. Buyers can opt for a performance upgrade which increases the power output level to 660bhp and 1423Nm of torque. The
