  2. hi guys, i have managed to stave off the desperation to zhng my ICE for 2 years now but finally giving in as I have some spare cash. was looking to either change my bodykit or ICE but decided ICE gets my priority. i have a budget of 500-1000$ in mind but if exceed by a hundred or two can get me a MUCH better effect, i will consider. i know the madness of ICE can range up to much higher (20k for high end) but for a novice like me probably can only tell the difference btwn a stock system and smth much clearer with less noise) now, i need recommendations for good installers/tuners to do it up for me and explain to me more in-depth. i know for one that the whole setup includes Headunit Tweeters Amp Subwoofer Speakers and probably you'll need good RCA cables and a very good tuner too. soundproofing wise im nt sure if the end justifies the cost as im nt sure how much does it actually help? also, if anyone can tell me whats the diff btwn an active and passive set. i have read it somewhere a year ago but decided not to go ahead and now forgotten whats the diff. any kind soul can save me the trouble of searching for it? im looking for not only sound quality wise, but also aesthetically nice for viewing pleasure. always admired those sets! i thank all of you bros for ur help in advance!

  8. If you are reading this blog entry, then you are probably one of the members who spend hours on mycarforum and myautoblog every day. And hanging out with other car enthusiasts, you would probably know at least the basics of cars; maybe more. When you buy a car, you more or less know what sort of car and kit you are getting for your hard earned money. But you would be in the minority. Most Singaporean car buyers couldn't give a damn what is under the bonnet, the figures or even if the car was rear wheel drive. What they do give a damn about though is the badge stuck on the bonnet and boot of the car. Who cares about how the car drives so long as the badge is fancy enough to impress your next door neighbour, your relatives and your friends. The car badge is literally worth more than its weight in gold. Anyone remember those fake Lexus Harriers running rampant in Singapore several years ago? And unsurprisingly, the premium car marques in Singapore have caught onto this propensity for flashing wealth. And so BMW brought in the 1 series as an affordable and attainable way of getting on the premium car bandwagon and then the 320i and then the 318i. Well guess what? Now there is an even more affordable way to lay one's grubby Singaporean hands on a snobbish German badge - the Audi A1! If one can put up with the small size of the car, it represents the most badge for buck! Imagine the 4 Audi Circles for $126 grand thereabouts! With COE prices as they are these days, this sum isn't all that steep (relatively speaking). This has got to be my top pick for maximum badge for minimum cash! So, just in case, if you happen to be in the majority (i.e. you have some snob in you); and are in the market for a premium car, you should head down and plonk down some cash for an Audi A1 right away. No test drive needed and don't even bother with the car reviews. It won't matter to you anyway. You get all your money back the next time you pull up alongside your neighbour's VW Golf. Well, at least until the Aston Martin Cygnet goes into production and your neighbour gets his hands on one. PS: If you were ever in doubt, this was a review of the new Audi A1 and it told you all you needed to know about it. And no I didn't have to drive one to write this.
  9. Hi All, As the topic, additionally, no Sunny, no Subaru TS, no OPC, balance COE>4 years any lobang?
  10. Would like to seek opinions relating to these 2 Budget Airlines: Does Scoot Econ have options similar to Jetstar Econ where we could top up a bit more $ to choose seats at emergency exits? Cant seem to find it at the Scoot website. If my priority is leg space (and not being able to lie down flat or food options), would you recommend choosing a Jetstar Econ seating at emergency exit, or Jetstar Biz? Does Scoot Biz or Jetstar Biz allow passengers to lie 180 degrees flat similar to SQ Biz? thanks for your advice.

  13. I think this is an example of poor planning and waste of resources and tax money. SINGAPORE: Airlines operating from Singapore's Budget Terminal will soon operate from the main terminals at Changi Airport. That's because the Budget Terminal will be closed later this year to make way for a new and improved terminal. Travelling the no-frills way has become more popular. Last year, one in four passengers at Changi Airport travelled on a low-cost carrier (LCC), compared to about one in five in 2010. In fact, low-cost carriers accounted for 28.6 percent of all flights at Changi Airport. And the outlook is bright. Mr Shukor Yusof, Aviation Analyst at Standard & Poor's, said: "Our understanding is that there are moves to review the operations at the Budget Terminal because of the increasing traffic, because of the expectation that there will be more and more budget airlines that will ply into Singapore. "I think there is no chronic shortage of facilities or any acute problems that we are having at the LCCT (low-cost carrier terminal). The numbers are increasing so fast that I think in the next few years, issues concerning the comfort of passengers, the issue of more aircraft, if you look at the budget airlines in the region, everyone is buying new aircraft, every single one of them are expanding. So within the next three to four to five years, you will have more aircraft, more passengers. "Indeed, more passengers are flying to Singapore by budget airline, so what we have today in Changi in terms of the Budget Terminal, is good for now. But within the next few years, it would struggle to cope with the numbers." Opened in 2006, the Budget Terminal can handle up to seven million passengers annually. And sources say the authorities are now looking at building a new terminal to cater to future demand. Many workers at the Budget Terminal are aware of the impending closure. Shop owners have also been informed and some say it's no surprise, as the lease for most concessions there will expire in a few months. The Budget Terminal currently serves Berjaya Air, Firefly, SEair, Cebu Pacific and Tiger Airways. MediaCorp understands the decision to move the carriers to the main terminals was reached a few weeks ago. It is understood that Tiger Airways will operate from Terminal 2, possibly by June. Provisions have been made for them to operate from Row 12 near to Singapore Airlines, Silk Air and the new Scoot airline. Berjaya Air and SEAir will also operate from Terminal 2, with Berjaya making the shift as early as April. When contacted, Firefly says it is aware of the move, but declined to give details. Analysts say the expected change should benefit carriers and passengers. Mr Shukor said: "I think it is going to be quite good for these carriers because that would mean seamless connectivity for passengers who want to hop onto another carrier at Terminal 2. "In terms of people who are flying from Australia onwards to Europe, for example, instead of being transported from the LCCT to Terminal 2, they can just walk a short distance and go onto the next flight and that's clearly an advantage for Tiger." Observers say when the budget carriers begin operations from the main terminals, they could be faced with higher costs. But it is understood that authorities are working on a special arrangement with the airlines to help them address the issue. Changes have also been made to aero-bridges at Terminal 2 to accommodate the additional flights. Observers say it should not take more than two years for the new terminal to be ready. - CNA/de

  17. One thing I don't like about our budget is the defence spending. 25% of our budget. For what??? And the stupid retired general still say EVERY CENT we spend in SAF is WORTH IT. What is he smoking??? I was recalled for my first reservist last year at age 36. I was a clerk during NS. My reservist unit is wargame center. They called around 50 of us, and most of us are 36 years old, first time reservist. Call us back for one week to do what? teach us how to use a stupid wargame simulation program and press button for the SAF trainees. So our reservist is first 3 days training how to use program which can be done in 1day. most of the time is spent idling.... Then the last 2 days, the trainess come in, then it is like a big wayang exercise. Play computer game like that. For that they recalled fifty 36 year olds and paid our companies one week of our wages. I don't understand why they don't call those young reservist who has just started their careers and probably cost much less. OR a better solution is ask those SAF trainees to spend one more day learning how to press the mouse themselves. I bet their pay is much less than a normal 36 year old. It is totally not cost efficient. It is like spending money because if I don't, next year my budget get cut. It is crazy. Just to save the SAF trainees one day of their time, they are willing to pay the same number of 36 year old reservists ONE WEEK of pay just to train us, so we can run the programs for them. How wasteful can you be? I am curious about the experience of other bros here who are in perhaps operation ready units. How "wasteful" or "frugal" is your SAF unit?

  19. i always parked my car at the T1,T2,T3 for a few days if go for short trip. Lucky, never have a chance to park at Budget Terminal. Very heng. more expensive than MBS ============================ User-unfriendly manipulation of parking fees at Budget Terminal Published on Jan 30, 2012 I HAD to take a round-trip flight to Kuala Lumpur early this month. I departed on a Friday at noon and returned the next day in the evening. As it was a short trip, I decided to drive and park at the Budget Terminal's open-air carpark. Having checked in online, I arrived at the carpark an hour before the flight and was shocked to see a small notice on the carpark barriers, indicating overnight charges in excess of $50 and a recommendation to use the Terminal 2 carpark, which would cost only $20. As I was not sure I had enough time to drive to Terminal 2, park there and find a shuttle or taxi service back to the Budget Terminal to catch my flight, I decided to stay put and parked at the Budget Terminal carpark. When I returned, I was charged an appalling $82.40 for 34 hours; in fact, the parking fee was costlier than the air tickets. Why does an open-air carpark at the Budget Terminal cost more than a covered parking space in Terminal 2's multi-storey carpark? Why aren't airport users alerted to the stark difference much earlier and in a better way instead of as a last-minute warning at the carpark barriers? Why is there no advice about how long it takes to get to and from Terminal 2 and the frequency of shuttle buses? The airport's feedback service replied that with the increased overnight charges, there are more spaces for short-term parking. But this is achieved at a cost - the inconvenience of passengers who have to park at a different terminal. The airport authorities should charge similar rates at all terminals and, at the same time, put up LED panels indicating the availability of parking spaces at all terminals along the approach road to the airport. This will allow motorists to decide early and park where spaces are available. The current clumsy manipulation of parking rates suggests that the authorities underestimated the popularity of budget travel. Ron Graham ============================== $300 fee 'Parking overnight at the Budget Terminal is shockingly more expensive.' MS AMANDA GOH: 'I had an experience similar to Mr Ron Graham's at the Budget Terminal carpark ('User-unfriendly manipulation of parking fees at Budget Terminal'; Monday). Late last year, I took a last-minute trip on a flight departing from the Budget Terminal. As I was rushing to the terminal to purchase the plane tickets and board the aircraft, I parked at the Budget Terminal carpark. In my haste, I missed the small sign stating the parking rates. When I returned, I was shocked by the $300 charge for parking for 41/2 days. The carpark staff pointed to the notices about the fees on the entry barriers and in a few other places. But these are at inconspicuous spots. More can be done to inform the public that parking overnight at the Budget Terminal is not only different from parking at the other terminals, but also shockingly more expensive.' =================================== Address airport parking fee anomaly Published on Feb 1, 2012 MY HUSBAND and I had an experience similar to Mr Ron Graham's last week ('User-unfriendly manipulation of parking fees at Budget Terminal'; Monday). How can outdoor parking at a budget terminal be more expensive than at the other terminals? I hope the airport authorities will make a change. Amanda Chan (Ms) ===================================== Higher airport parking fees help to ease crunch CHANGI Airport's Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are well connected by the Skytrain system, with a train arriving at stations every two to three minutes ('User-unfriendly manipulation of parking fees at Budget Terminal' by Mr Ron Graham; Monday). Mr Graham criticised the exorbitant parking charges at the Budget Terminal carpark. No motorist wants to pay hefty parking charges, but an operator must find a solution when faced with overcrowding. In this case, the airport decided that increasing the overnight parking charges could help ease the situation, and installed signage on the change. Mr Graham asked why airport users were not alerted to the difference in parking charges. Apart from having signs at the carpark entrances, how else can this be done without incurring excessive cost? The management of Changi Airport is excellent in many ways, which is why the airport has won many awards. Sam Yeow

  21. I don't mind revealing to you guys I used to make around $30k a month. This should be a modest amount by MCF standards. Unfortunately, my company recently lost a major client. Because of this my CEO has decided to cut pay for the entire management team. After the cuts, I should be getting around $20k only so I must start cutting personal expenses and living on a budget. Feeling a bit tulan because this will affect my family's standard of living. Do you guys think I should tender my resignation after CNY? To be honest I can make the same or more elsewhere. Only thing is this company is rather lax so I can get away with more things (like surfing MCF during office hours)

  23. The European debt crisis that sent the global stock markets on a roller coaster ride lately is now threatening to engulf many more European countries in addition to Greece. For the past two years, Greece taken extremely severe austerity measures to reduce its debt although though their implementation has left a lot to be desired. Italy and Spain are considered by many analysts to be next in line. However, the Italian Ministry of Defense has recently ordered 19 range-topping Maserati Quattroporte limousines for government officials. It comes to no surprise that the move has caused an outrage in Italy as the ministry is supposed to cut its budget by
  24. SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines has launched a budget carrier that will fly on medium and long-haul routes, including to Australia and China. The airline, named Scoot, will begin flights from mid-2012 with a fleet of four Boeing B777-200 aircraft. It plans to expand the network to India, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Scoot said it will offer airfares up to 40 per cent lower than full-service carriers. It plans to recruit pilots and staff from outside Singapore Airlines. - CNA/fa
