  3. hello my friends need some expert opinions here. i have 2 home laptops. 1 died yesterday. decided to cough out $1k to get a new one but i am torn between a laptop vs a handheld (example ipad or touchpad etc) pros for handheld is i want the instant boot up + i can use it for business presentations (although not very often) cons is there is no CDROM for the handheld. Moreover, i heard some handhelds cannot view youtube and other video files ? pros for laptop is that it has a full fledge PC functions and a CDROM moreover, i do keep some business information inside it as well as use it for some business purposes, although i have another dedicated business machine. cons is the slow boot up , clunky and clumsy... not as sleek and "presentable" during presentations my other laptop is actually a netbook, which doesnt have CDROM as well So... what would you buy if you were me ?

  6. sharing my experience with regards to buying/selling used cars. My personal experience tells me if you go for budget performance cars which fitted into the price range of 60-90k, in particular turbo models like evo/rex or worst, poor fc cars like rx8, be prepared to have the mentally to hold on to them till scraped as they can be a bitch when come to selling off. Most/all dealers don't want to even hear from you even if you are willing to accept any price other than paper value. Your only choice is to sell on your own. Not as easy as it seems unless yours is a truly special one or fully stock and first owner. Apart from that, you got to wait for the right buyer to come in as those interested are normally quite young, not necessary cash rich or not ready for such cars. I never have so much problem selling off my previous few rides be it to dealer or on my own until this time, which was eventually sold. i will be very careful when going back for such cars again. all thanks to our wonderful COE system which shaped the way how our car buyers think, now, including me, unfortunately...
  7. Yamaha RX-V367 selling for $399. Is this a good deal ?
  8. Hi all, Finally, taking budget airline for the 1st time with Tiger Airways . What are the things (details) I should take note of during the flight? Really no in-flight entertainment ? Wonder whether can view DVD on board the plane to kill time. Got day rates parking at Budget Terminal? Some of the things that I've been hearing about budget airlines: 1. People tend to rush for seats when on board , 2. Plane is noisy during flight, 3. Service Crew sit around do nothing, 4. Seat very cramp and not enough leg room, 5. and etc. Is it really that bad? Please advise me. Thank you very much. Regards,
  9. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_644649.html It seems that it's very easy to satisfy Singaporeans... just bribe them with a few hundred bucks, and you can buy their consensus for anything. I don't know whether it's because they are so pliant and money faced... or is it because they are so desperately hungry, even $600-800 is like a fortune to them.
  10. Title : Budget 2011: Higher pay for civil servants this year By : Date : 02 March 2011 2052 hrs (SST) URL : http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1113962/1/.html SINGAPORE : The strong economic performance of 2010 will translate into higher pay for civil servants this year. Minister-in-Charge of the Civil Service, Teo Chee Hean, told Parliament on Wednesday that annual salaries will return to levels before the downturn in 2008. Senior officers will also get the maximum GDP Bonus this year, with some getting as much as eight months' pay. Singapore's impressive recovery last year was soon followed by a tightening labour market. The civil service was also affected, with resignation rates rising from 3.5 per cent in 2009 to 4.7 per cent in 2010. Among officers in the Management Executive Service, the attrition rate went up as high as 17 per cent among younger graduate officers. Deputy PM Teo outlined the need for competitive wages, and said the civil service is restoring the cuts made during the downtown. Together with the Special Variable Payment of one to 1.6 months to be paid out in March to those who clocked in a good performance, the annual salaries of public officers will, on the whole, return to pre-recession levels. The annual salaries of senior civil servants are automatically linked to GDP growth. This is because they contain a significant variable portion, which is dependent on both the officer's performance as well as economic growth. "GDP Bonus is zero if GDP growth is two per cent or below, but accounts for a maximum of one-quarter of the annual salary of senior officers, or eight months, when the GDP growth exceeds 10 per cent," said DPM Teo. In 2010, Singapore posted a GDP growth of 14.5 per cent. After two years of not getting the GDP Bonus, which had amounted to a 18 to 22.5 per cent reduction in their annual salaries, senior officers will get the maximum rate this year. "Nevertheless I should emphasis their total annual salaries, including all the variable components, remain within the market benchmarks, and that was the way the salary structure was designed," said Mr Teo. Mr Teo said the policy was for civil service pay to keep pace with, but not lead, market salaries. On Monday, opposition MP Low Thia Khiang had noted in Parliament that estimated salaries for political appointments had gone up about 30 per cent, from $58.3 million in 2010 to $75.7 million in 2011. Mr Teo said this reflected the design of their pay structure. He added that no changes had been made since salaries were revised in 2007. - CNA /ls
