  1. Hello seniors and Enciks I have been looking at 2nd hand car dealer sites. I saw some are selling 5-year coe cars and it comes with 1-year official warranty and claimed that the engine has been refurbished. I am aware 5-year coe cars are non-renewable. But on the surface, it looks like a okay deal since you can drive it for 5 years? I could get a renewable car with 2.5 years left, at the same price. Does it really make any sense to buy 5-year coe cars? What are the considerations? When it means 1-year official warranty, means I could go back to distro? Sounds like a gamble.. Any inputs are appreciated.
  2. Do you take car loan or are you able to pay car in full amount one shot? Which is better when buying new car/used car - to put 50% downpayment and then the remaining 50% amount use car loan, OR pay one shot in full? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Thanks.
  3. Hello to all computer gurus, need yr adv whether such old Ram memory card (as per photo) is still available in the market. I need two pcs preferable brand new as used ones I have no knowledge on how to varify thier conditions. Thanks in advance for your adv.
  4. Looking at the resale market, and considering buying condo that is 8-9 years old this year. Is for staying and not renting. Is this a bad investment? Some people tell me never buy 99 years condo. Say next time cannot sell. Is this true? Let's say i buy a 9 years old condo $600K, and stay for 15 years. It will be 24 years old by then. Can it be sold then or too old to sell? What about the value? Will it drop significantly because it's so old and leasehold? How significant a drop, 1/2 price, 1/4 price? What if there's a property boom then, possible for it to retain it's value?
  5. I thought it would be good to compile a list of to do before purchase Sort of a sharing and paying back to the forum Those that have additional infor, feel free to add 1. Check out how much you can loan. Yes, there are times when you "feel" you can meet the monthly payment, but then , the bank thinks otherwise. Lets not debate in dubious ways like overstating sales agreement and "football" payment. Yu may also want to check out the citiloan assist and there are good rates to be gotten for new cars. just be aware there will be some work on your part to be done so a good sales person is required. You are ideally cutting out the sales person comm of 800 to 1000 dollars on average. If like most, you have a condo loan or a condo is on the horizon, BUY condo FIRST as that will also hit your loan for the Condo. 2. check out which credit card is having a promotion for that month. a 10000 to 20000 down payment by card can gain you a lot of rebate / cashback. 3. Forecasting COE is as good as buying 2 coconut to point to the sky to contact your MP for tips on COE increase or not. Be aware that the 6 bids and top up only helps to lock you in on the down payment . Your choice of cars that you could have gotten IF it rise can be quite disappointing. imagine you book a 1.5L car and because of the top up, you would have being buying a 1.6L car as compare to the car at that point in time where you put ink to paper. 4. New car launches as they say early bird gets the worm. Can be as good at 6 K off. Cars that are in stock in that configuration would get you better discount. BUT note that lime green and orange coulors will be sticking with you way long after many CNY is over. So have to take the color that you like. But that's me. 5. Event cars maybe cheap, but its also DUMB specs. The savings may negate the fact that when selling, you are also getting lower resale. WHY ? 2nd hand car dealers has a list of specs that they note down. so things like a normal car sold with all the bells and whistle vs a dump down version will very quickly be identified by the second hand car dealers. Bi xenon head lights and LED are one example and IF its a second owner car, its even worst. So be careful not to be happy to have a 4K discount and getting short change in the end. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details. 6. Getting a pre own may not be so bad. Do note that the 6 - 9 months old car is normally 30 - 45 K different . You not buying a car from NTUC. So bargain away. Do check the TnC. 7. Check out the various insurance as that is also a big unknown. It varies and if you can ask on your own, the savings are as large as 300 to 400. Do note that the Sales will not be happy, so you have to check with the sales on what is the final price without loan and insurance. As the loan interest rate can varies do not be mistaken that its 1% different only. Car loan interest is very different from how other loans are calculated. ITS a lot of MONEY. Those that think otherwise can try out the apps on the SGCARMART to have a taste of the delta of 1% for 50K loan for 5 years. If its easy peasy lemon queezy, then good for you. 8. Do check when the YOM is. we are in 2015. If you still getting 2014 or earlier, there are insurance implication when it comes to fair market value. Do also check when you will be registering the car. If you register in dec 31 vs 2 Jan, your resale value can be as different as 4k to 6 K when its time to sell. ************ This is not exhaustive and as money is involved, those that buy do note of the risk that you take base on my insights
  6. I am thinking of buying a second-hand car from Turf city. It had about 3 years left. The paper value of the car is about 15K. How much should I offer above the paper value for this 7 years car? How much discount should I ask from the listed/advertise price of the car?
  7. Hi, I'm in the process of looking for a used MPV as my family is now consisting of 7 members including myself. I believe the norm is to send the car for STA evaluation but I have heard many stories saying that it's not worth the money. Reason being that it will only detect some MAJOR problems. Another test is the Vicom evaluation. Can anyone share the details on this type of test? Is it a good yard stick?
  8. Dear all, What are the freebies for buying a new a car from authorised car dealer like Toyota or Honda? Last time when I bought car was solar film, sport rim, etc. many years back. What are the things that car agents are willingly to offer now? Please kindly advise. Thank you very much.
  9. Hi all, i'm thinking of buying a new Navara NP300 pickup truck (http://www.nissan.com.sg/vehicles/np300%20navara/index.cfm) but facing some issue due to it being too heavy and large. Firstly, season parking for open air carpark weight limit is 1800kg max. But they will still allow it if its below 2000kg but will charge you a fee of 185$ instead of 65$ then after that they would need to know if the pick up truck is able to fit into a lot. i believe they say it's max length would be 5 meter. Currently the Navara Curb weight is 1860kg Length is 5255mm I'm wondering any of you own a pickup truck that is about that length and yet still able to buy the season parking or have any advice for me? If all options are gone for that pick up truck, i'm looking at 2 models of SUV in the current market. Hyundai Tucson 2015/2016 (http://www.hyundai.com/sg/en/UpcomingVehicles/Tucson/index.html) Or Toyota Harrier (i think latest model is 2014 or 15) (http://harrier.sg) Which would be a better options of SUV and why? Found reviews of tucson but can't find much reviews on the harrier. ps; most likely after buying any of this 3, i would love to LIFT its sup higher and change its wheel thicker and bigger (popping out of its side kind). saw some people mod it and it looks awesome! Not sure where can i mod it thou. lol Thanks all!
  10. just sharing.. referred to many SE either through frds or relatives.. Their prices n freebies seems not as good as compared when we just pop in the showroom n assigned with a SE.. Of course , we must do our due diligence on the car we are buying.. So far , tried 2 AD n was surprised with the difference of between 2k & 4k... In fact , helpful bros here really help with their inputs n ensure that we r not smoked by the ADs Slight difference but money is still money what..
  11. Anyone here tried buying a ultra basic NO frills car and then upgrade along the way like a project. Let me see if this could be an interesting way to own a car. If setting aside cost, I know cars are already expensive to begin. Then along the way maybe after a year or so upgrade to a better parts and qualty including interior. No sure if it makes sense. So here goes. Supposed on Day 1 the car is ultra stock You then have this urge to make it better and start swapping to better parts. You wait for parts to be avalable then slowly upgrade
  12. Hi i saw some vehicle in carmart that is significantly cheaper than same model / year vehicle. Stated as imported used, i understand that it is previously used in another county BEFORE the reg date in Singapore, other than that is there any other non benefit i should watch out for in such vehicle? I understand spare part difference may be possible also but the imported i am looking at is japan made thus its likely to be the same compared to a conti as conti have a lot of different variants. I calculated that i should benefit more from the lower buying price thus lower downpayment, lower monthly installment, less paid for interest also. Vehicle is stated with a additional info of : Additional Imported Used Vehicle. Eligible for PARF rebate. Please correct me if i am wrong. Thank you.

  19. Hi, need some opinion from experts here as I have no experience buying a used car. Right now, I got my eye on a 2009 Honda Civic and have some doubts about the finance and reputation of the deal. I intend to pay full cash without any loan. Understanding that such arrangement would means that the price be mark up in a way. What is the norm market mark up for this case. They mark up my price around $2k. They propose a loan of half of purchase and mentioned for 4 yrs but I make full settlement after the 6th month without any penalty from the bank. But a repayment of unused interest of 70% to 80%. Is it so? I saw this particular car twice on the internet on SGcarmart. The first is sold and now the ad is opened again. Is there any reason for me to be careful of. Heard a lot of scams outside by second dealers a lot.
  20. Anyone did purchase headunit at Mutafa centre before. The selling price is cheaper than outside but the sale told me is a export set without local warranty. Do you think is a good buy? please advise kevin

  23. Hi fellow MCF-ers, Im going to commit to purchase of a 2nd hand car for my mum so i would like to know the procedures to it. First time buying a car without a loan so i would like to know the procedures for this. 1. Sign S&P with buyer after AAS Checks if car is ok 2. I will settle insurance myself with my own agent 3. He has outstanding loan with Maybank, so whats the procedure like? My agent told me, i will need to go down with him to Maybank to fully settle the loan on the spot? Whats the guarantee to me? What if i help him settle and he suddenly change face? say no deal etc? 4. After loan settlement, we have to go down to LTA to do transfer? what documents are needed? Certainly LTA will need bank documents to say that loan has been fully settled. Thanks alot! Rgds, Ray
  24. Hi! I'm shopping around for a pre-owned car to replace my wife's current aging ride. I came across a few dealers who posted on sgcarmart claiming that the cars they are advertising are on consignment. I'm curious: 1) How do I know that the car is really on consignment? Or could it be a "consignment car" is easier for them to sell at higher profit since it lowers the buyer's guard against 2nd hand car dealers and reduce the tendency to bargain too aggressively. 2) If it is really a consignment car, do I need to pay admin fee to the dealer on my side? I was quoted a $700 fee if taking a loan with them and $1000 if paying full cash. Is this the usual for consignment? 3) Is the consignment dealer taking money from both sides ie.buyer and seller all pay a fee to him? I thought usually the seller already need to pay roughly 1% of the sales as commission for the consignment deal. 4) Can I get the seller to absorb these "admin fees" since I want to use my own financier who can handle all paperwork without additional cost to me. Thanks in advance!
