  5. Caught a speedster on camera? Send clip to cops The next time your in-car surveillance camera captures a speeding motorist on the roads, don't just upload it online. Send it to the Traffic Police, too. The authorities said video recordings of possible traffic violations are used in their investigations, and encouraged the public to send the clips if they lodge a police report against errant drivers. "Members of the public who have original footage of such videos are advised to provide them at the earliest opportunity to the Traffic Police," it said in response to queries from The Straits Times. Such investigations also require support from eyewitnesses with information to come forward, it added. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...p-cops-20130805
  6. From the originator of daylight running LED brings you the new Matrix LED headlights. The new technology, which projects the high beam more precisely, will debut on the 2014 facelifted Audi A8. Audi's latest innovation consists of LED high beam headlights that are split into numerous individual, small diodes working in conjunction with lenses or reflectors connected in series. They are activated or dimmed separately. The new headlights work in tandem with a camera to block out light aimed at oncoming and preceding vehicles while continuing to light up other zones. The optional 'marker lights' flashes at pedestrians in the critical range in front of the car three times in succession. Lastly, the lights also have a cornering function that targets the emphasis of the beam towards the direction of the bend. When the auto headlights function is on, the system is activated from 30km/h on highways and from 60km/h on city streets. According to Audi, the light that the driver sees is always bright, homogeneous and much more effective than that produced by competitors' mechanical dipping systems.

  15. Late last year, rumours of Lexus testing an autonomous car circulated on the internet and many thought that the Japanese luxury automaker will come up with a self-driving car just like what Google did. But, that is not actually true. Lexus actually unveiled an integrated safety research vehicle at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The unveiling is Toyota's ongoing development on new safety technologies. According to Toyota North America's corporate manager of business strategy, Jim Pisz, "The company will never have a truly autonomous car." He also mentioned that much of the technology in the research car is already in the 2013 Lexus LS. Jim Pisz further explained on one of the features in the integrated safety research vehicle which is the active cruise control which can slow a car down to a stop and then accelerate back to the speed set on the cruise control. The company also pointed out that a similar feature in a rival German automaker's car isn't as 'smart' when compared to their unit. Lexus affirms that the company would not fully devote its resources in a self driving vehicle. A driver-less car is just a part of the research. What they are focusing on is a vehicle fitted with advanced automated technologies and paired with an intelligent, always attentive driver whose skills would contribute to safer driving. The research vehicle (which is a Lexus LS) shown at the show is fitted with a 360 degree LIDAR (light detection and ranging) on top of the car's roof. It detects objects up to 70 metres away and it reads stop lights and also detects pedestrians. The research car's computers manage three core functions; recognition of images through its cameras and sensors, judgment based in real time, and operations that send the decision to the car. Each of these core functions help to make the driver safer and more skilled during driving.
  16. Sharp-eyed speedsters who slam on the brakes when they spot a speed camera may soon not escape a ticket, if a new speed enforcement system due to go on trial is eventually implemented. The "average speed enforcement system", according to tender documents the police put up on the Government electronic procurement portal on Dec 19, will measure vehicle speeds over a distance to nab speeding motorists. This means that errant motorists cannot slow down just before or speed up right after speed cameras to evade the law, as they do now with the "point-based static speed enforcement system". The new system will be tested out along the Pan-Island Expressway and Changi Coast Road for at least a month, according to the tender documents. Changi Coast Road, in particular, is a well-known black spot. In May last year, a cyclist was killed after being hit by a lorry, which only came to a halt about 200m away, according to reports. According to the tender documents, the police noted that other jurisdictions have in recent years started implementing speed enforcement systems that measure the average speed of vehicles over a predefined distance. For example, several Australian states have implemented these since 2001. In New South Wales, there are 25 point-to-point speed cameras installed along the various highways specifically targeting heavy vehicles. "(The Singapore Police Force) intends to conduct a trial to evaluate the suitability of such systems for implementation in Singapore," the tender documents said. The average speed enforcement system works by recording the time a vehicle takes to travel between two points to calculate its average speed. Speed detectors placed at the start and end points - to be determined in consultation with the Land Transport Authority - will record the timestamp and vehicle licence plates. Speed limits here range from 40kmh on smaller roads to 90kmh on expressways. In the last three years, the number of speeding violations here has surged. Between January and November last year, the Traffic Police booked nearly 225,000 motorists for speeding - a daily average of 673 offences. In 2011, the figure for the whole year was 225,500, or 617 daily, compared to 205,000 cases in 2010. Over the years, the police have deployed speed cameras at more locations. In 2008, there were speed cameras along 38 roads. This has risen to 53 roads now. Red-light camera system to go digital? In a separate tender issued last month, the Traffic Police also called for the implementation of a "Digital Traffic Red Light System". The new system must be able to capture and store digital images of motorists who beat red lights. These will then be sent to a backend computer system to be used as evidence, according to tender documents. Currently, the red-light camera systems here still use film. Just last week, a video clip of a motorcyclist hitting a woman pedestrian after beating a red light along Woodlands Avenue 6 went viral online. The footage was captured on the in-car camera of a motorist. Last year, there were 16,442 red-light violations between January and November. And in the previous year, there were 17,490 such cases, a shade higher than the 17,180 in 2010. Source: http://www.todayonline.com/Hotnews/EDC1301...s-on-speedsters
  17. Hi Just wondering if you guys ever experience the flash while driving through the green light? All the vehicles had already stopped as previously it was red light Then when the light turn green and the cars moved there was the bright and mighty flash. The flash took around 5 cars ahead. So 5 cars x 200 each is a whooping $1k Is this a happy new year stunt?

  20. My insurance premium was up in october. Did my research around, and Direct Asia is the only one I found *so far* that gives an additional 4% discount when you have proof that you have an in car camera. JUST FYI only, not their agent. If anyone else knows of any other company, do tell please. Cheers.
  21. I am wondering how a distributor sell a item CR300HD that is listed by manufacturer for 295000KRW(SGD330 equivalent) as SGD599 here in Singapore? Are you blatantly ripping us off? Given you as the "distributor" Normally I would expect the price difference to be minimal from what they are recommended/selling!

  23. Yesterday evening, my wife was driving along airport road toword macpherson road. She crossed the traffic light junction just before the SCDF HQ when the light already in amber. She not sure whether is there any flash from the red light camera when she beat the amber light. I have 2 video cameras in my car. 1 in front & 1 at the back. However, from the front camera, I'm unable to see the red light camera. I just retrieved the video from the back this monring, but I didn't see any flash from the camera after the car crossed the junction. So the red light camera was not activated right? You can view the video here: http://www.facebook.com/?email_confirmed=1...video_processed
