  1. Picanto

    DLSR cameras

anyone into these cameras? an entry level one easily cost 1000 ++. That is excluding the filters, dry cabinet, lens hood etc
  2. Dear Bros, I was involved in an accident some time back at Bukit Timah Link, the curve upslope road leading to PIE on the right. Right now the accident is coming back to haunt me via court hearings and etc... So I just need to find out a couple of things but it would be abit hard to stop along that stretch. Hence, Just want to check if anyone knows if there are any street cameras along that stretch of road? And How do I go about obtaining a copy of the video from TP if there is a camera taking that stretch? Accident happened in 2009. Many thanks in advance!!
  3. I noticed that there is a pin-hole camera-like gadget fitted on the wind screen near to the rear view mirror of Merc, Beemer, Camry, etc. expensive vehicles. I tried surfing their websites and MCF for more info on this gadget but could not find any. Bros driving Merc, Beemer, Camry, etc. could you please share more on this gadget? Is this really a camera or some driving assistance sensor. If it's the former, does this cam only serve to record images seconds before an accident or it records 24/7? Any other topics on this also?
  4. Hi all, i may have kena "photoshot" by a hand-held speed camera used by a plain clothes guy in white standing on the overhead bridge. Was along queensway near the macdonald there, i think speed limit was 70 but was travelling at 80+, 90, rushing for appt 1st time i saw a hand held camera without tripod. has anyone seen such a speed camera b4 and kena also? pls share. So far i've only seen mobile speed cameras that are quite large mounted on tripod. this one was only as big as a hand held video cam.
  5. hi all bros! I was driving along Boon Lay Way today and for some reason I did not notice the 'Speed Camera Ahead 70 km/h' signboard. So I was driving around 92km/h until I saw the actual speed camera device, then tapped my brakes hard. I did not remember if my car managed to slow down enough to under 80km/h, but there was certainly no flash, so I was reassuring myself with my friends in car who were saying 'no flash should be ok'. but another of my friend said that 'speed camera is different from red light camera which whether daytime or nighttime also have flash; speed camera daytime no flash, nighttime got flash' So ... who is correct ? Speed camera daytime no flash, only nighttime ? Also, if the speed cam at Boon Lay Way an active camera ? how many points if I kena the speed camera ?
  6. Any of you guys on twitter? Just occurred to me we can have yet another way of warning one another of speed cams by tweeting. Rough idea in my head but it can be done easily. Use a hashtag of #sgcopcam or something easy to remember. Example tweet "lornie rd #sgcopcam"
  7. Everytime i drive, i look out for them.. and sometimes when reaching a junction with a red light camera, some cars jam brake on amber for fear of getting snapped, making me also jam brake. I know they are there to catch errant motorists la. But, is there a grace period or something? I know if u travel at speed limit and if u are too close, still can clear the junction or if just nice can stop in time etc.
  8. While travelling along AYE from Jurong around Clementi stretch saw an "unmanned" small video camera mounted on a short tripod pointed towards incoming drivers on an overhead road bridge. An umbrella was shading it. Then about 300m ahead on another overhead bridge managed to glimpse another 'unmanned' tripod pointing behind drivers. Anyone seen this ? Maybe both are synchronised to catch speedsters.
  9. Anyone knows where the KPE speed cameras are located? They are pretty well hidden, I can't spot them! It's kind of slow to drive at 70 in that long straight tunnel. Good thing the CTE tunnel is a sensible 80.
  10. ST 15 May DON'T try cutting into the bus lanes from June 2. You may be caught on camera - from a bus. Ninety buses on 12 services will have cameras fitted on the front to help the authorities catch errant driver violating the bus lane rule, which is to ensure buses get an uninteruppted run down their lanes. The buses with cameras will ply both the city areas and the heartlands, on services which cover the new areas designated as full day bus lanes, said LTA on Thursday. Some cameras have already been fitted on SBS buses on a trial basis last year. Previous cameras on buses, introduced in the 1990s, proved unreliable and traffic wardens were then needed to enforce the bus lane rule. Those motorists who are caught flouting the bus-lane rule will be fined $130. Eleven stretches of road in the city, which are already designated normal bus lanes - operating only in the morning and evening - will be converted to full day bus lanes. Full day bus lanes are in operation from 7.30am to 8pm on weekdays and Saturdays, except on public holidays. All the new full-day bus lanes are in the Central Business District and include stretches on Grange Road, Bencoolen Street, South Bridge Road, Victoria Street, New Bridge Road, Hill Street, Robinson Road, Shenton way, Fullerton Road and Collyer Quay.

  12. Found this article in MSN. City decides to shut down "effective" speed cams because they are not raking in enough revenue. What appears to be a control mechanism turned out to be a revenue generating machine. So do our govt have the same mindset too? Do red light cameras work too well? Some cities rethink devices as drivers pay heed, reducing fine revenue By Alex Johnson Reporter updated 2:12 a.m. ET March 21, 2008 Last week, Dallas officials reviewed the numbers and decided that a quarter of the cameras they had installed to catch motorists running red lights were too effective. So they shut them down. They are not alone. Faced with data showing that drivers pay attention to cameras at intersections
  13. All bro pls take note on new spaad cameras at Telok Blangah road after caribbean Keppel Bay & Pasir Panjang Road indirection of West Coast . Another at Pasir Panjang Road near the Handicraft Centre inthe direction toward Vivo City. No signboard Warning.
  14. So bad, this morning on my way to work, I beated a camera red light driving on most right lane, approaching to a junction with red light camera, saw light was green, but found after the junction the cars already tailed back to near the junction on most right lane , and middle lane still was empty, so intended to switch to middle lane, but there was a lorry at my left side middle lane and a bit lead of me, I speeded up to overtake the lorry, at this moment the traffic light turned to amber liao, about 40 to 50 meters to the junction, at speed about 70km/h, chiong or brake , hesitant a splited second... chiong, but my poor power engine didn't help me[sly] shi*t! 5 meters to the stop line, the light turned red liao... did the camera work?? if work, 12 demerit points lah[bigcry] any fine??
  15. Yo all the bros, I have been reading HWZ forums & Clubsnap forums, seems like Sony is not a popular brand to buy? Was looking for a PNS camera. Read that Fujifilm F31FD is highly rated but stocks are going low. Any bro has Sony Digital cameras? Care to share whether are they good for simple PNS? Was wondering whether W80/W90 is comparable with F31FD in terms of picture quality & ease of usage. Am looking at Sony cos I have lots of Sony/Sandisk Memory sticks (Bought too many for my psp !!) My budget around $400-$500
  16. ST 26/7 YOU can run, but you can't hide. Street cameras will soon be taking pictures of motorists who stray into bus lanes, park illegally, make illegal modifications to their vehicles, or stop or drive where they shouldn't. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is sourcing for camera technology that will capture all these violations. It is paying three companies - security firm Cisco Security, computer systems group NCS and electronics specialist ST Electronics - about $800,000 to run two trials on intelligent surveillance systems to see how effective they are in enforcing the rules under LTA's purview. Some cameras have already been fitted on SBS buses as part of these trials. Enforcement of road regulations is now done by a limited number of LTA officers on motorcycles and outsourced wardens. But street cameras - handheld or mounted on vehicles or kerb-side - can do the job tirelessly and, possibly, more efficiently. Mr David Chew, executive chairman of Stratech Systems, which bid unsuccessfully to conduct the two trials, said there had been 'several' tenders for camera systems. Besides the trials, the LTA had also invited vendors to provide information on 'mobile devices for enforcement and maintenance services'. Stratech was among those that responded. Mr Chew, 49, said his company's intelligent vehicle-access control systems, which can check vehicles seeking entry into secure facilities or at border checkpoints, are already in use in Hong Kong, the Middle East, Europe and the United States. An LTA spokesman said the authority was looking for technology that could provide portable functions, such as 'real-time availability of vehicle records or a digital camera to capture on-site images'. Sources said this capability would enable the LTA to crack down on those who drive deregistered or unregistered cars. But a top priority for the mobile-camera trials is the enforcement of bus-lane hours, The Straits Times understands. Previous cameras on buses, introduced in the 1990s, proved unreliable, which is why wardens now do the job. But with more full-day bus lanes being rolled out, cameras will be more cost-effective. SBS buses have been spotted with the new cameras, which have been taking digital pictures of offenders. An informed source said: 'When a bus driver spots an errant motorist in the bus lane, he presses a button located on his right. This marks the spot where the footage was taken. The date and time are stamped.' The previous system was not as high-tech and user-friendly. Full-day bus lanes, which are off limits to other vehicles between 7.30am and 8pm from Mondays to Saturdays, are operational in Orchard Road, Eu Tong Sen Street, Hill Street, Victoria Street, Bras Basah Road and Somerset Road. The LTA is looking for camera systems that are robust and versatile. In one trial, it specified that the system must be able to capture vehicles weaving between lanes as well as speedsters exceeding 150kmh. It should also be able to read all types of number plates - even off-peak plates, illegal reflective plates and broken and foreign ones. New camera systems aside, the LTA is installing more J-Eyes - cameras that monitor traffic conditions at road junctions, but which can also be used for enforcement purposes. There are 132 in use now, and another 129 will be up by February next year. At least one motorist welcomes these electronic eyes. Lawyer Vijai Parwani, 40, said: 'It will definitely encourage people to put on their best behaviour on the road, which I suppose is a good thing.'
  17. In another thread, I mention this will be coming. Guess its sooner than I thought. Good for 2 things. Catch reckless drivers. 2 If they can record, you might have a 'witness' for accidents.
  18. guys for those TP cameras deployed on overhead bridges and roadside, how far away (or the shooting range of the cameras) they can capture traffic offenders?
  19. Went past a traffic light the split second it just turned red. To my horror.. I thought I saw a bright flash! But I walked back to the junction cos it is near my home, stood at the junction for very long, but could not find anything that resembles a red light camera. The junction is kind of below a flyover, so I looked at the walls of the flyover and still could not find any box. So is it just my imagination (could be the flash of those irritating HIDs), or is there really hidden red light cameras in SG?
  20. I might had missed this topic before or had not been posted yet, anyway would like to inform in regards to Speeding Cameras along NS Highway. Just been informed by my friend who came back from KL. Whilst returning to S'pore and at 2nd link checkpoint at Malaysian side, he was slapped with 3 summons at the checkpoint for speeding. He was also shown 3 photographs of 3 different locations along NS Highway towards KL where he is captured for speeding. He could not do anything but bargain with the officers for concession where he paid for 1 summon and waived the other 2 summons. (afterall, all in the same day & in the direction towards KL and about 1 hour apart) My friend was not happy with it and returned the next weekends and drive along NS Highway to see for himself. True enough, as travelling along NS Highway, spotted the cameras on a post (this time, he did not speed). So to all members who wish to travel up north along NS Highway, please be cautious and do not speed. The cameras are installed in such way as in S'pore on the lamp posts. S'pore cameras are mostly for traffic watch. Beware of those posts with 2 cameras. One a normal square ones which record your speed and the other, a round ones which take photograph of your car when you pass the post. Happy driving, cheers
