  1. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=224&PN=1 Latest reviews from sgcarmart. seems like the guy quite like driving in it and it seems like a good car overall based on just that review. haha
  2. BM is bringing in 'tomyam' Hybrid Camry 2.4 and CNG Altis end of this month. The Camry is slightly higher than petrol version staring from $120K, but Altis is cheaper than petrol version starting at $80k. Camry's combined output is 190bhp, hits 100kn/h in 9 sec, fuel consumption is 6.1L/100km. Is it worth buying?
  3. Drive carefully if you're in a Vios......
  4. I was driving on Benjamin Shears Bridge when I noticed a flame at the top, somewhere around around 2am.. ? On closer look its a burning Camry... Also there was a Mercedes E-class that stopped about 4-5m infront of the burning wreck. My apologies for no pictures as the TP was standing around and I didn't want to be booked for using a phone while driving. :/ So many fires recently, from Mercedes to Ferrari... now Toyota.
  5. - the Unclemobile that has been in the limelight due to faulty accelerator pedals in left hand drive form. Today I was bored. I came home from my day job, made myself a cup of tea as usual, ate dinner with the family and decided that I would write something that would basically bore the heck out of me on a regular day. But since I was already feeling bored, writing about a company like Toyota couldn't make the day any duller. Toyota is currently reeling from the blows it had sustained from all the recalls it had to make from faulty accelerator pedals that have purportedly killed a lot of people, mainly Americans. It has learned that in its relentless quest to be the world's number one car manufacturer it has slackened on its quality and safety of its products. Things have basically gotten so out of hand that Toyota's head honcho Akio Toyota had to stand in front of the American Congress and apologize for all the damage done. And there is a whole lot of damage that had been done aside from the important fact that some lives had been lost. In terms of monetary damage, thousands of jobs are in jeopardy as people building and selling Toyota cars would suffer. As Toyota has a few factories in America, Europe and China, where a majority of the recalls have happened, the economies in these countries would be somewhat affected. Actually this is nothing new as everyone knows things like this would happen if a major accident or event occurs. Imagine this as another economic tsunami, we've just experienced the effects of the American credit crunch that had collapsed a lot of financial houses in America as well as in Europe and we had experienced a dot com crash in the late 1990s and the Asian financial crisis during the same period. Economic crisis' like these happens; sometimes the cause is a lack of money, manipulation of money, overinflated reporting and so forth. What is happening to Toyota is part of a vicious circle that shouldn't be taken seriously as its part of the cycle of world economics. Of course Toyota will recover, slowly but surely. But for the sake of an argument; if you are a motoring enthusiast would the death of Toyota affect you? I would be more concerned about losing Toyota when it comes to 4X4 vehicles, as the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Hilux are important vehicles with fantastic off road capability. Both 4x4s are super reliable, hardly breaks down and have good off road ability, better than other 4x4s, bar the Land Rover Defender in my opinion. If Toyota were to close down, I would be disappointed as their 4x4s are fabulous machines. But those are their off road vehicles, what about their current batch of road vehicles? Lets picture a world without Toyota at this point of time ( February 2010). Lexus is considered a separate entity for the sake of this argument and is not affected. This would mean no Vios, Corolla, Camry, Prius, Land Cruiser and Hilux. The Vios and Corolla look like a shrunken Camry (or the ultimate Unclemobile) with some youngish styling touches here and there. But if you went out and bought a Nissan Latio or a Nissan that sounds like Venereal Disease your motoring life would be still similar if you bought the Toyotas mentioned above. There wouldn't be a real difference as the Nissans will still give you an average (meaning slightly dull) driving experience. . You may feel a bit of a change if you went and bought a Honda Civic, a Mazda 2 or 3 or a Mitsubishi Lancer as all are better drives. All current production Toyotas in 2010 are compacts, small sedans, sedans, large sedans, station wagons, MPVs, SUVs but no coupes, really sporting sedans, grand tourers or sporty cars in general. You see, in their quest to be number one Toyota stopped producing any flagship vehicles or coupes. There are currently no Trueno, Sprinter, Levin, Celica, Supra or even an MRS (MR2) in their lineup. Toyota in 2010 are totally concentrated on making and selling dull shopping trolleys that are inoffensive and only somewhat decent to drive and lack a certain sort of sparkle. A serious lack of character. Can anyone out there tell me of a current Toyota that had a great sounding engine since the Toyota Supra of the 1990s? Can anyone also tell me of a current Toyota in the forefront of car design like the Toyota Altezza (actually it was supposedly a Lexus, I know) with its crystal like rear lights and chronograph watch like instrument gauges? The only decent car in their current catalog of cars is the Mark X, which is still conservative in design even if it is rear wheel driven, therefore slightly sporting in nature. But it isn't an all round sports sedan that I would want to buy. I believe that Toyota would need to rediscover their soul or spirit and start making cars that are slightly wilder in terms of performance, looks and character as well as regaining their supposedly bulletproof build quality. Maybe they should not keep their best designs for Lexus and send some over to their budget models. But whatever the excuse Toyota wants us to believe the fact is that choosing to become number one has dulled their senses, including that all important sense of quality in their cars. Going too fast too soon is a fault already admitted by Toyota. Therefore the lesson that could be learned is that aiming for number one isn't that good a target if you forget the fundamentals that brought you to where you are right now. I have to now state that in life, quantity isn't as good as aiming for quality. -the car that may bring back the sporting spirit in Toyota. IF they produce it. I hope Toyota rediscovers this all important fact and remember building cars that are like the ones they built in the early 1990s and then start creating cars for actual driving instead of just transport. Maybe with the Toyota-Subaru AE86 'replacement' things will get better. But I believe that after this recall debacle, it will take a longer time for it to enter production. We shall wait and see, but in the meantime, I am not losing any sleep over this Toyota issue. - A man walks into a Toyota showroom with some pictures. "Hello, can I buy this?" "No, we don't produce it anymore. " - The man continues. " What about this?" " I'm sorry again, We've stopped producing that too." - The salesman then says " However, can I interest you in this? It has good mileage, 4 doors and a roof."

  9. The less frills the better....less court case. No wonder the cars in Singapore are so basic and bare......less complaints from the owners. http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/sub/news/s...,353882,00.html? Toyota advises removal of driver-side floor mats Pedals may get stuck on them, causing accidents (TOKYO) Two years before the fatal accident that prompted Toyota to warn 3.8 million American car owners to take out floor mats, Troy Johnson died in a crash also suspected of being caused by a floor mat jamming an accelerator. Melodie Bohuchot, the widow, pleaded with Toyota Motor Corp yesterday to act quickly to prevent any more accidents. Earlier this week, Toyota informed the US government that it will be sending letters by first-class mail to owners of the best-selling Camry, the Prius hybrid and other models to remove floor mats on the driver's side and not replace them. It was the second time in a little over two years that Toyota has acknowledged problems with floor mats in the US. Toyota said that the gas pedal may get stuck when the floor mat is unsecured or incompatible, making it difficult to stop and potentially causing a crash that could result in serious injury or death. Toyota has also distributed a statement of warning through the media and on its website. It expects to begin sending the letters late this month and complete the effort in December. But Ms Bohuchot was worried that people may find out too late, and urged Toyota to get the word out immediately. Toyota spokesman Paul Nolasco said that it takes time to reach every customer. The latest recall - Toyota's biggest in the US - followed a a high-speed crash in August involving a 2009 Lexus ES350, that killed California Highway Patrol officer Mark Saylor, 45, his wife, 13-year-old daughter and brother-in-law. Mr Johnson, 39, was killed on July 26, 2007 - the same day he got a job as a dispatcher for a taxi company, and appeared on track to turning his life around after years of drug problems and being in and out of jail on assault charges. Mr Johnson's Honda Accord was hit from behind on a highway near San Jose, California, by a 2007 Toyota Camry, whose accelerator had gotten jammed by a Toyota-supplied floor mat, according to court documents. The Camry was speeding out-of-control at up to 190 kmh, and slammed into Mr Johnson's vehicle, killing him instantly. The car burst into flames, burning his body beyond recognition, court records say. Toyota recalled the floor mats at that time. Charges against the driver of the Camry were dropped. Ms Bohuchot said that she bore no ill feelings towards him. Ms Bohuchot sued Toyota in the Santa Clara County Superior Court in California, and reached a settlement with the world's biggest car maker last year. Ms Bohuchot and her lawyers declined to disclose the amount. Last week, Toyota president Akio Toyoda apologised for the worries that the floor mat problems were causing for those who had bought Toyota vehicles believing in their safety. Toyota says that floor mats on the driver's side must be removed from the 2007-2010 model year Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250/IS350. -- AP

  12. Toyota announced facelift Camry in Detriot Autoshow: -Exterior looks very similar to the existing JDM Camry -Major change including new 2.5l engine and 6-speed automatic - not sure will BM bring in this configuration http://wot.motortrend.com/6415201/auto-new...2010/index.html "Letting a car sit on the vine without any changes for a long time is no way to maintain a sales crown so for 2010, Toyota is giving the Camry -- America's best selling car for the last seven years -- a minor maker over. The seventh-generation midsize sedan heads into its fourth model year with minor changes to its sheetmetal, a new four-cylinder engine, and several new features. The cosmetic changes to the exterior consist of a new grille and front bumper, a larger lower intake, larger headlights and restyled tail lights. Every trim of the car gets new rolling stock as well. Base and LE models receive new wheelcovers, XLE models get new ten-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels and SE models get new 17-inch alloys. The Camry Hybrid receives its own grille and bumper along with a wider lower intake, restyled fog lights and 16-inch alloy wheels. For four-cylinder models, the 158-hp 2.4L unit makes way for a 2.5L mill that makes 169 hp in base, LE, and XLE models and 179 hp in the sport-oriented SE trim. Gone too are the five-speed manual and automatic, replaced with six-speed versions. Toyota did not say how the new engine affects the four-cylinder Camry's fuel economy and the 268-hp V-6 is unchanged. Toyota finishes up the changes to the 2010 Camry with the addition of several features including stability and traction control and auto up/down power windows on all four doors as standard on all trims, an optional audio system for base and LE models that adds a USB port, Bluetooth, integrated satellite radio, and MP3/streaming music capability. The Camry Hybrid receives a new gauge cluster and cloth seating surfaces made of a fabric called Fraichir, a combination of silk protein and synthetic fiber. Pricing will not be announced until closer to the car's March on-sale date."

What are the differences between the 2.0l and 2.4l Camry? Does the 2.4l version justify it? 3. Are there all grey/black leather options for Camry? What I saw in sgcarmart are walnut trimmed? 4. 18. The taxi SHB9xx6K was on right lane. He signalled and switched over my lane, without giving me enough time to react, thus i had to take evasion action by braking hard. I gave a horn and immediately he stepped on the brakes even harder, causing me to jam my brakes in order not to hit him. When approached the traffic light in front, i switch lane and stop beside him. He gave me a unpleasant gesture to show his displeased. I winded down my window and ask what's his problem when he mentioned that he had already signalled and that it was my fault for not giving way to him. Does it mean that when someone signal and change lane, people will have to give way to him no matter what, or that he owns the road. He even said that he is only driving a taxi, don't mess with him. Does it again mean that taxi drivers owns the road, and they can switch lane whenever they like? He even told me to complain if i am not appy for his action, which i am doing now. Already feedback to the company n LTA, where else can i complain, to teach this errant driver a lesson.

  23. TOKYO - A Japanese labor bureau has ruled that one of Toyota's top car engineers died from working too many hours, the latest in a string of such findings in a nation where extraordinarily long hours for some employees has long been the norm. The man who died was aged 45 and had been under severe pressure as the lead engineer in developing a hybrid version of Toyota's blockbuster Camry line, said Mikio Mizuno, the lawyer representing his wife. The man's identity is being withheld at the request of his family, who continue to live in Toyota City where the company is based. In the two months up to his death, the man averaged more than 80 hours of overtime per month, according to Mizuno. He regularly worked nights and weekends, was frequently sent abroad and was grappling with shipping a model for the pivotal North American International Auto Show in Detroit when he died of ischemic heart disease in January 2006. The man's daughter found his body at their home the day before he was to leave for the United States. The ruling was handed down June 30 and will allow his family to collect benefits from his work insurance, Mizuno said. An officer at the Aichi Labor Bureau on Wednesday confirmed the ruling, but declined to comment on the record. In a statement, Toyota Motor Corp. offered its condolences and said it would work to improve monitoring of the health of its workers. There is an effort in Japan to cut down on deaths from overwork, known as "karoshi." Such deaths have steadily increased since the Health Ministry first recognized the phenomenon in 1987. Last year, a court in central Japan ordered the government to pay compensation to Hiroko Uchino, the wife of a Toyota employee who collapsed at work and died at age 30 in 2002. She took the case to court after her application to the local labor bureau for compensation was rejected. In the company I am working now, it's a norm to work over 100hrs of OT per month....

Toyota Motor Corp plans to begin building and selling a hybrid version of its Camry sedan in China in 2010, according to a report in the Tuesday edition of Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The Japanese car maker hopes to spark sales in anticipation of growing demand for environmentally friendly vehicles. The newspaper also reported that Toyota plans to manufacture 10,000 of cars per year in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong as part of its joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co.
