  2. Hope this will pass on to any cancer patients. True or not, no harm trying since it is better to believe it than nothing. Alkaline Diet for Cancer: Cancer Cells Cannot Survive In an Alkaline Environment Maintaining a diet that promotes an alkaline pH within the body is good protection against cancer. When a person eats this kind of diet, the natural pH balance will lean more towards the alkaline side of the scale, instead of the acid level of the scale. Unfortunately, all too often a person

  14. SINGAPORE - The Government is studying ways, including looking at the experiences of other countries, to deter frequent gamblers from visiting the casinos. It will also "soon" amend the Casino Control (Advertising) Regulations to make it "crystal clear to both casinos that they cannot target the domestic market", Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing said yesterday. Mr Chan added that as of Oct 31, there were more than 26,000 self-exclusion orders issued to foreigners. He was responding to questions tabled by Nee Soon GRC MP Lee Bee Wah. In a written reply, Mr Chan said: "The regulations will also be widened to cover not only advertisements but any promotion of the casinos, which should prevent incidents like the heartland shuttle buses. We will make further announcements in due course." Noting the difference between frequent gamblers and impulsive gamblers, Mr Chan reiterated his ministry's concern on the former group. Mr Chan said that in Holland, for example, the authorities look out for frequent gamblers and interview them. Said Mr Chan: "Depending on their assessment, they may subsequently limit the patron's visits to the casinos or even exclude them. Depending on our assessment of the problem, we may consider different measures to deter frequent gamblers. What we put in place eventually, if any, will have to suit our local context and meet our needs and situation." Ms Lee also asked if the Government planned to raise the casino levy for Singaporeans in an effort to discourage gambling. Mr Chan reiterated that the S$100 entry levy is to "signal that gambling is an expense and not a means to make a living, and to discourage casual and impulse gambling". He added: "Some believe that a higher levy will be a more effective deterrence. Others worry that increasing the levy will only cause Singaporean visitors to intensify their gambling so as to 'max out' the upfront cost of the entry levy. The jury is still out as to which is the likely behaviour of Singaporeans if we raise the levy." On Ms Lee's suggestion to impose an casino entry levy on foreigners as well, Mr Chan said the ministry was focusing on a "targeted approach of combining education and casino exclusions". He added: "Such an approach also emphasises individual responsibility. For an individual, self-exclusion can be a much more effective upstream safeguard against problem gambling than even a downstream monetary quantum." The National Council on Problem Gambling will continue to work with the Ministry of Manpower and employers to advise foreign workers to apply for self-exclusion, Mr Chan said. Mr Chan stressed that the safeguards - while stringent - for foreigners and Singaporeans "should not and cannot replace individual responsibility". "Individuals must make the correct decision to gamble responsibly. In our Asian context, we also encourage families to play their part in helping their family members to do what is right," he said. http://www.todayonline.com/Hotnews/EDC1111...domestic-market
  15. Spot On...... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Sg_Review/message/7645 Mellanie Hewlitt 2 Nov 2011 Sg_Review What Our Poor SPH Journalist Can & Cannot Do This morning the Straits Times, the official propaganda press for the PAP, released a headliner stating that "55% of Singaporeans say the President should be paid less than the PM". This follows another insightful headliner from "Today", another PAP controlled SPH tabloid, stating that "Singaporeans are confused about President's roles". As is usual with the Straits Times and its stable of SPH print companies, there is more revealed in what the statement does not say (and strives to omit or hide) than the little morsel of obscure statistical fact it tries to serve up and pass on as the truth. But before we dwell further into the statement we must also acknowledge that it is not easy being a "journalist" working in Singapore's propaganda press. You can deduce this from the convoluted manner in which the headline is made. Our dedicated and ever obedient SPH journalist cannot go outright to state that over 90% of all Singaporeans feel that the PAP Ministers salaries are obscene and ridiculously high. To acknowledge such a truth in its face and publish this fact would be akin to committing career suicide in the PAP controlled SPH world. And by the same token, our poor SPH journalist also cannot go on to state that over 90% of all Singaporeans think that the President is grossly over-paid, like his ministerial counter-parts. Our poor SPH journalist cannot admit the factual truth that this is in fact a purely ceremonial office that is used to endorse the sleight of hand of the PAP Ministers. Neither can the SPH Journalist go on to talk about the related issue of the long overdue findings on the supposedly independent review committee that was supposedly set-up to er "review" ministerial salaries. This is a public embarrassment and a faux pas that the ruling party is still struggling to extricate itself from, and it is one of those skeletons they want to quickly bury and forget and "move on". Our poor SPH journalist also has to somehow avoid mention and direct comparisons with the salaries of equivalent leaders in the civilized democracies who some how are mysteriously able to honestly carry out their duties and functions as public servants, without graft and corruption. Our SPH journalist cannot for instance say that just because President Obama is drawing less than 20% of the annual package of our PAP Ministers, that Mr Obama and his administration are a corrupt lot receiving under the table money. Similarly our poor SPH journalist also cannot reveal the fact that the only "political leaders" drawing similar salary levels with those of our PAP ministers and president all just happen to be political dictators and war-lords that hail from lawless war-torn strive ridden third-world countries. What a strange conincidence!!! Somehow, no matter how impossible, our poor SPH journalist has to do the impossible, and to make such obscene ridiculous salary levels seem reasonable and justifiable. How then does one hide or at least ignore the huge 6 ton white elephant that squats squarely in the middle of the sitting room? It is no easy task and I must commend SPH in its continuing efforts to window dress and add credibility to these numbers. When you look at all of the above you can see that there really is a helluv a lot that our poor tongue tied SPH journalist cannot say or print. Since he has by default eliminated all intelligent meaningful content from a discussion, his articles will be adorned with shallow rhetorical dribble lacking any real intellectual content. Once again this is not the fault of the poor SPH journalist as he is constrained by circumstances and the environment, NOT TO CALL A SPADE A SPADE, and to dutifully issue glowing endorsements of his nude emperor's new clothes. He is forced to be a shallow creature without any journalistic integrity. SPH and his employers have surgically removed his spine and backbone and replaced this with a double forked tongue. Which now leads us back to this rather amusing headliner that he can safely state in a politically controlled environment: "55% of Singaporeans say the President should be paid less than the PM". Oh yes and that other gem, "Singaporeans are confused about President's roles"
  16. Why tax items bought abroad for personal use? Letter from Charlton Wee 17 Oct 2011 Today I recently returned to Singapore from a trip to Hong Kong and was stopped to have my baggage checked for any undeclared goods. My luggage was packed with herbs for my family, and I was questioned about contents that I did not know the worth of, as they were given to me by my relative in Hong Kong. I had to give an estimate based on my experience of purchasing herbs in Singapore, as I was told I could be taxed. I found out that all Singaporeans are allowed only up to S$300 worth of non-taxable goods, a rule that no one knew when I asked around later. I can understand it if we are taxed on goods for commercial use or business purposes, but why are we taxed on goods bought overseas that are solely for personal consumption?
  17. new minister for transport mr Lui, after sitting and thinking hard holding newspaper on buses few months ago, finally told us his great plan: to cut car population growth to much less than the current growth rate.............. this can only mean one thing: some of us have to give up our cars sooner than we thought.... how hahh? to drive, or not to drive?? i got a feeling that ERP / COE will shoot up sky high.... maybe insurance, roadtax will also follow.... dont forget petrol prices... some may say "No big deal, dont drive lor, still can take mrt / buses / taxis, wont die one"............. but does it mean its the end of the road for car-lovers? they may just hope to own a simple car but use it on weekends / public holidays / afterwork etc to fetch their small children / old parents etc to enjoy the freedom of moving around the island independtly, they dont mind take public transport on working days to work. what's the point of working hard, earning more, but cant drive his own car on weekends etc? (of course the extra money has other uses also) the current increase in car population is partly due to some families having a few cars and indirectly depriving other families to even own their first car by pushing up prices of COE beyond reach. Some have suggested higher COE etc for 2nd or 3rd cars, will this work? I dont know .............
